Porting a new linux kernel to a device is not simple. It brings a lot of stability issues if the kernel version is too new, and so most developers stick with a LTS release such as v3.4.104. Most s2 kernels are at kernel version 3.0.101 because it is found to be stable, and so they stick with the mentality that 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'.

I really love your kernel and you are the new kernel master of i9100 now for me. Then why don't you use v3.4.104? My friend's phone is s4 mini and he is using a v3.4.x.x kernel. I think it is stable to use

Honestly, I think I don't have enough developing experience to do such task chhapil is also thinking to update linux version, but is also unsure whether to upgrade to a newer version or downgrade to 3.4.104.

Thank you for your replies. I have 2 more questions.
1. What are the pros of upgrading 3.4.104 kernel
2. So our device is official cm12.1 now and sources are online. Will you release a lollipop kernel?

1. Some pros of updating Linux kernel could include increased speed and security (since 3.0.101 kernels are not updated anymore) .
2. I guess you didn't see my Sig? Noppy already linked my dorimanx lp kernel thread. Yes, it works perfectly with cm12.1, however doesn't work yet on other roms like paranoid android and slimlp.

Hello, I wanted to ask you, who are a community of experts, to take off a question.
Why us with the galaxy s3 int we are still stuck at version 3.0.xx kernel? and for example users with galaxy s plus they have kernel versions 3.4
There are some incompatibilities?
is a problem of the processors Exynos?
Thanks for your attention
because you shouldn't compare versions in different devices.
PS read the sticky threads before posting. Qs go into Q&A
Because Samsung. Exynos or not, they keep certain kernel versions a long time.
On the other hand, if it works and works well, why upgrade?

Sorry for the error (if there is any mod that can move the discussion in Q & A :good
Anyway I did this comparison because it was the first terminal that came to my mind,
why do you say that I should not compare your different terminals?

No, no, it works well for what it is just my question on this fact because you can get to a kernel upgrade (perhaps in the end it does not change anything)

It's right! ... But also the various Temasek, Googy, Siyah etc. to s3 are stationary to that version 3.0.xx, for what I wondered why even the custom kernel does not make a version upgrade

We are forced to keep up with updates to Samsung?
If so I put his soul in peace because you are no longer heard from those sources : Angel:

I think so, yeah.
Yes they're different kernel strains.
3.0.85 is the latest in one strain used in aosp (3rd July) released the same day as 3.4.52

3.4 is supposedly better.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
3.4 over 3.3, 3.2, 3.1 and 3.0 introduces bugfixes (obviously) but more important, it introduces new "features".
I put features in " because often a new feature will be a hardware driver or a new protocol or method.
However, these new features wont be relevant to all hardware sets. For example, I don't need my s3 kernel to provide support for the latest broadcom Gigabit pci-x network card or update chipset drivers for the intel i7-540M laptop processors....
In 3.0.x we get the same bug fixes. There's really no point updating the base version if it doesn't include a feature we need.

Yep. From the link I posted on the last page, kernels 3.0, 3.2 and 3.4 are longterm support, meaning these kernels will continue to be updated for some time.
I paraphrased the title a little bit. I was looking through the different kernels available for the i9300 and noticed all of kernels only use up to Linux kernel 3.0.101, why is that?

Here is a kernel for stock Cyanogen OS13.x/13.0/12.1 with hardboot support (To use the stock Rom as primary Rom in Multirom)
Code:
Use my kernel only if you are sure about the risks of flashing custom Roms/Kernel to your device. I'm is not responsible for any damage caused by using one of my files.
I have attached 2 file types.
The .img files to flash it with fastboot or an kernel flasher app.
The .zip files to flash it with a custom recovery
The COS13.0 ZNH0EAS26M kernel will also work on COS13.0 ZNH0EAS2JK
The COS13.1.1 ZNH2KAS2X1 kernel will also work on COS13.1.2 ZNH2KAS3P0

Currently I will not add more features to the kernel because the stock kernel without any more features is currently working very fast and stable

Hi @Bauer. I have been alive because of your kernel. I keep stock ROM as stock multirom base ROM and install other ROMs. It started with your YOG4PAS1N0 kernel version. Now that there's an update...I would like to request you to update version please.I cannot update otherwise..If I do..I will lose my other ROMs.. I do not wish to use another kernel except stock one please.

I will check in the next days if there are changes in the init scripts.
If there are changes I will make an updated version soon.
But for now you can use my current kernel in YOG4PAS2QL too.
I use it myself without any problems

After compiling roms for a couple devices and learning about the android rom, i have decided to dabble in the arts
of kernel compiling, i started with my main device the Nexus 6p, learnt a fair bit compiling kernels for it, so i decided to
come back to this device for testing purposes and trying to test and go back to ARM device which is completely different.
Now with the Nexus device i went full updated linux kernel first then gave updates, but this time ill be doing something a little
different, i will upstream some kernel updates, plus caf updates then i will give a release, or for example, the first realease i will
give you guys will be 3.4.2 kernel version, just to get things going, then next release will be a higher version.
I hope all of you like it i will be adding alot of stuff in the coming months.
All releases will keep up to date and working with latest CM roms
Here is the download link just click on the kernel and it will download

Ok so stock stock kernel you get with stock rom or even custom like CyanogenMod/lineageos has a kernel version of 3.4, each incremental update after that eg 3.4.1 or even 3.4.100 has many fixes and updates within the kernel, some do nothing for our device but others can, a small code change in one file can impact the way the kernel works

Well I'm running latest lineageos and I have never had it reboot on me. Are you using any kernel manager apps at all, as I haven't been able to add and customisation to it just it. It may panic because it's reaching for something it doesn't have
No reboots here either,
Im running the latest official Lineage .
if u have kernel mod or any other kernel tuner installed try to go back to your basic settings or just delete the app and install it again after your first boot.
Really smooth kernel !

This is a kernel, based on androidlover5842's kernel, which is based on CM11 kernel, which is based on Android kernel, which is based on linux kernel.
This is the same androidlover5842's kernel, compiled with much newer GCC 7
- GCC 7.3.0 (armv7-eabihf--musl--bleeding-edge)
- GPU overclock disabled because it will drain your battery
- read ahead restricted because you have low ram
- disabled a lot of cpu governors and hotpluggers because you have low ram
- disabled a lot of USB drivers, ext2/3 drivers, media drivers, debuggers, tracers, PS2, Keyboard drivers, PCMCIA drivers, modem drivers, GPU drivers, because you have low ram
- added MY hotplugger that will really DISABLE cores (you have 4) to save battery whenever possible, screen being ON or OFF
Faster overall system, no tweaks needed, just install via your recovery on top of any CM11-based ROM!
