Guys... I've seen a few discussions about this, but the threads got closed.
I've had almost all of the galaxy S series (S3, S4 and now S6 edge)
I'm having lags and stutters while browsing some sites and even scrolling in Facebook, especially when going into Comments and looking at the replies of comments.
I'm absolutely mind boggled that when with these specs there are stutters and lags. I've also got the nexus 4,which doesn't have any issues at all.
I was having a hard time deciding between an iphone 6 (or 6S in fall) the Galaxy S6, but ultimately chose the S6, because I just couldn't justify paying that kind of money for outdated specs of 2 years ago. (Well I now have to admit specs are not everything)
I thought I wouldn't have to root my phone etc. because it'll run awesome out of the box, but that's not the case...
My galaxy S4 is almost running on par with the S6 though admittedly It's rooted and running an awesome custom rom.
I never used to care that much for micro lags and a bit of stutter, but you'd think they would have sorted it out by now with these monster specs and with this premium price now it always freaks me out if I see lags..
Otherwise it's really a beautiful phone with a mind blowing Camera. Though I still don't see the point why they went with such a high resolution for the display. ( if I take a picture on the S6 and send it to my s4 you can hardly spot a difference besides color accuracy and brightness, would rather have better battery with a lower res screen)
Anyone know a way to solve the scrolling problem? ( I tried 0.5 animation and factory reset to no avail)
Please don't shut down this thread like the other one, because it is a real issue!

Thanks for your response
And I'm sure it's possible to get rid of lag with root and debloating/custom roms. I had lots of fun doing all these things in the past, but now I just want a phone that just works out of the box. It's just frustrating, that with such specs, the premium price and it being 2015 you still have to do those things. And it's become a headache to always look for things that are draining your battery in standby and use stuff like greenify. And with "Powersaving location" apps polling way to often instead of giving them a certain timeframe to do so. (I think Sony did that with the stamina mode )
Well I guess that's the way it is. Maybe I should consider another phone after so many years of android.

The lag that occasionally occurs is solely due to the memory leak in lollipop and should be fixed officially in a future software update. Don't give your hopes up too quickly. Also, android is still better than ever on this phone.

I think it's more to do with the app quality and them not being optimized for specific phones. I mean they have to work on flagship phones as well as on budget 150$ phones. Well anyway let's just hope for the best... thanks anyway
And I saw somewhere that touchwiz 5.1.1 has a built in greenify :thumbup:

I sent back my S6, because of some cosmetic problems and have to use the Nexus 4 to bridge the time it is back. Updated my S6 to 5.1.1. It was better, but still has RAM -issues and lags in the browser and especially Facebook app.
Using my Nexus again (admittedly with a custom rom) I have no scrolling lag at all. It´s so frustrating a 2,5 Year old device is faster at tasks than the spec-monster which is the Galaxy S6. #Sorryforrant

I installed Extreme Syndicate. It was just updated a day and a half ago to V8. It is on the Verizon Android Developement subforum. It has the memory patch applied, has the Alliance framework installed, a custom boot animation, and has many system apps removed (but not as many as V5)
seriously, i hate this phone for so many reasons, but lag never occurred to me specially when browsing,
i am using boat browser Pro, never used any other browser, and every thing is smooth as my iphone 6 side by side.

Hi guys I saw the GT and the asus TF today in a shop. I played a bit with both and with no doubt the TF was much more responsive in the screen transitions and when the menus where appearing.
I understand devices in a shop are stressed by many people and are kept on for many days but I really noticed this so I ask you:
Is the GT a bit slow in the transitions? You know what I mean some things are not open to interpretations: the ipad2 is not slow in this, what about the GT? Is it at the same level?
I'm deciding whether to buy the GT or wait for another tablet as I don't want Apple. But this slowness puts me off.
Thank you.

I too played with TF in the store, but when I got it home, within 2 hours, it went back to BB. With TF, ratio of getting bad hardware if compared to tab 10.1 might be 4:1. This just my opinion from people who have found issues with asus transformer.

Yes, i think that the Galaxy Tab is quite slow and stuttery in many situations. Home screen is laggy and Market is terrible to scroll!
I would have expected a much more polished and smooth operation, think i will send it back and wait until honeycomb/hardware is working flawlessly...
What do you guys think? This stuttery crap annoys me when i buy a device for >540€ !
So I am not the only one who notices it. And most importantly it is true that it is laggy.
Is the TW update of any help in making it smoother?

luck of the draw
i have had a xoom and it was lagging. really bad. until i rooted it and installed a custom kernel. then it flew. I purchased a gtab 10.1 and it was also slow but not as bad as the xoom but slow enough i was like forget it. well last night i got the itch to get the gtab again and there isn't any lag and it is responsive. during my first stint with the gtab i read where people didn't have any lag. so i can testify (in my opinion) some run smooth and some dont.. pain in the butt. so i think its a personal call if you can handle some lag and want to try to fix it through custom roms and kernels or take the bad with the good. hang on to it. if not, wait for the next generation of tabs.. i think that is what i am going to do..this tab wont let me get into downloading mode so screw it. i am done till better ones come out..
I've now owned 5 tablets: Streak 7, Xoom, A chinatab, an Iconia, and a GT10. They all have had little problems; lagginess, FCs, glitches; but I expected that.
The problem here is not hardware or software, it's users and marketing. These are being marketed as polished technology; in fact this is all new ground and every tablet maker on the market is still trying to figure it out. The problem is not that one is laggy; it's that you're expecting too much from what should really be toys for early adopters to figure out. I'd say, give it 2-3 years if you really need a polished experience on a tablet, or buy an ipad and accept the limited functionality.
Also; to directly address the question of TF vs GT10: I chose the GT10 because it's lighter and I don't need the connections. It would have been nice to have a microSD, but since I am not looking to replace a laptop computer (my tablet is entertainment only), it works best for me. I also like that Samsung appears to be prepared to support this tab for a bit; Asus is working on the TF2 already; support for the TF1 will drop off soon after the successor is replaced...
I think its just a software problem! There ARE Launchers which are nice and smooth, but somehow a multi-billion company isnt able to produce decent code, its laughable!

TouchWiz is, I guess is better than the stock one, and most of the lags are already gone. So far there's no other honeycomb based tablet in the market, without tegra2. So it will be hard to tell if it's hardware related issues or software. When hc runs on Tegra3 or any other hardware, then we'll know the actual culprit.

It's already smooth with TW update. With custom roms it can be even smoother. You can try one of docs rom in development section. Also, once we see a custom kernel, that'll make it even more smoother. Also as someone already mentioned that HC is still in its early stages, in 2 to 3 years, it will be as powerful as the notebook, of course with better hardware as well.

Ok I installed Bonsai ROM and didn't see any significant improvement in terms of smothness.
ALso for some reason I am not able to get the TW version. I installed the TW version of Bonsai but I keep getting HC..
Also tried one of doc's slim ROM but was getting a lot of FC.
GOod point is I tried doc's Launcher2 and this helped a lot in terms of smoothness.
Now the tablet is more responsive.
Just an fyi.

HI all, i recently purchased a ATT Note and love it. I have come back to droid after being on the iphone for a while. I fell in love with the screen. I almost sided with the Galaxy SIII due to the performance being so much better but the display model Note was not running ICS. So i got the note, brought it home and got it updated. Its a great phone, i love it. Especially for me being able to remote into my work computer and assist end users in troubleshooting. I am getting close to returning it though and getting the GSIII due to it being just so much faster. Is there a current ROM available that improves performance? There just seems to be so much lag when opening things up and when typing. The GSIII also has a nice screen but is noticeably smaller to me and that was a drawback but the performance is really better to me and things open instantly. Thanks for any input! I apologize for any repost i did a search and did not really see anything, Thanks for any help!

Get it rooted if you have not already and get away from stock ICS, its poop. Literally. You will notice a drastic difference with any lag with many of the Dev's roms here. PA is my personal preference but any Cyanogen build or... Man just read some stuff and decide for your self. Bottom line, drop ICS.
And yes it is the wrong forum.
Root, rom, and use h0twire oc if roming with ics based rom... turns the phone into a beast

But there's no OC support yet.
I'm ready to use Jelly Bean primarily as much as the next person but to be honest, its just not quite ready if you consider the performance. The graphics kinks haven't all been ironed out yet so if you're wanting to really see the full potential of your Note, I would recommend using either the official Cyanogenmod ROM (or the latest nightly) or h0twir3's current remake of it. They have the fastest, most responsive feel to me compared to all of the other ROM's available right now, plus they're clean and basic which is always my preference. Jelly Bean is getting better every day though so give it a whirl if you like. I'm expecting it to be exponentially improved by the end of the month.
Its to argue against the sg3. It has 2gb of ram and thats pretty much the difference. Its always gonna seem a bit zippy in comparison. I like my note for screen size, s-pen, quality software and dev support. No other phone has those requirements at the moment. And obviously it can stand up wit the other top tier phone around. It becomes a matter of preference and necessity so its totally up to you.

Hello guys a question about the performance of the phone
Is there any FRAMEDROP or STUTTERING when moving around the UI especialliy when OPENING and CLOSING APPS if you could can, can you close and open google maps and tell me if it lag or fps drop?
Being extremely OCD about android lag as i have return and sold various device such as the tab 10.1, NOTE 1, and the nexus 10 because the lagginess and stuttering when opening apps drove me CRAZY.
Now pardon me if i sound rude but can your eyes notice the difference between 30 fps and 60fps? I think a lot of people claiming that their device has no LAG simply cannot TELL what LAG even is and their eyes are untrained therefore wrongfully stating that their device is “smooth” all the time.
I do see lag in maps. No device is perfect, even my iphone 5 chugged sometimes.

Oh yea INSIDE of maps is fine idc about that im talking about when OPENING and CLOSING the map app.
There is pretty significant lag throughout the UI. The Nexus 4 w/ the same specs, minus Sense UI and the 1080p screen, is much smoother. The biggest issue for me in day to day use is scrolling left and right through GTalk sessions. It lags BAD. But that's the only thing that really bothers me at this point in my day to day use.
But the screen makes up for it.
Opening and closing apps is pretty darn smooth, especially once the apps are cached in the ram.
I dont notice any lag. But I use Nova Launcher prime and not Sense.
Very fast launcher.

Honestly I haven't seen this at all. Might be a device per device issue. I have no lag that I can tell. It's really smooth and responsive. Then again I've never used a Nexus 4 so maybe it's smoother. I still wouldn't use the word lag.
This topic would be again subjective just like "Hows the battery"
However, I have been an owner of these devices in past 3 months -
iPhone 5, iPad Mini, Xperia V, One X+, Galaxy S3, Note 2, Butterfly
A lag will almost always be present in all devices at some time or the other. However, I see where you are coming from. So to answer your question, NO, there is no lag.
I am using Virtuous ROM (even Stock ROM for the matter) with Power Saving On (for CPU) and the only times I have seen lag -
1. After reboot when you go one homescreen to another the widget needs to reload data atleast once.
2. When entering app tray after reboot or app install, it refreshes the app list.
In normal use and opening/closing apps, there is no lag and YES, I can differentiate between 30/60 fps. Example at hand, try scrolling contacts/tones in Whatsapp on a S3 and Butterfly/DNA

Thank you for this man really appreciate it, People on the nexus 10 forum was like NO NO LAG AT ALL!!! Lo and behold i bought it and about to return it after a week So you think the xperia z would be a pretty good bet for a lagless experience? Considering the hardware is similar.
Sense 4+ does have lag regardless what people say. It is there throughout phone UI. Be it settings, desktop or whatever.
However there is no unusual delay in opening or closing apps. And general performance is great in apps.
But if you are coming from Nexus 4, or Note 2, yeah this phone lacks that buttery smooth feel by default.
However with De-sensed Viper with LK kernel and Nova Launcher prime with fast animation = as close as it gets to Nexus 4 UI experience. It is significantly smoother to use. AOSP contacts is blazing fast as it should be.
Note 2 is buttery smooth ? ... Simple test ... Scroll a long list of items like ringtones on both Samsung phones and HTC side by side ... Let me know how it goes (actually don't since I have already played with them and know the answer)

You can take my opinion with a grain of salt if you want to, but I am probably in the top tier of ocd people when it comes to ui lag or slowness. I simply won't put up with it.
I owned the DNA and now the Note 2. Don't let anyone here fool you, the DNA is quite sluggish in homescreen scrolling. To the point that it was one of the main reasons that I got rid of the phone.
There isn't really a ton of lag, although there is a little bit. But HTC for some reason chose to slow down the animations so the scrolling feels heavy. I absolutely hated it.
My personal opinion and conclusion is that they did it to mask how heavy Sense is. Because I had a Rezound and the animations on that phone were much faster but it was a complete lag and stutter fest.
And I always laugh at the people who brush it under the rug and just say to run Nova and you will be fine. If you are going to do that, why not buy a phone with better battery life and expandable storage? Because Nova will make any current gen android device run like butter. I personally buy a phone for the stock launcher and software that it has.
Either way, good luck with your decision!

For some reason unknown to me and I think many devs Samsung doesnt utilize hardware rendering to the fullest and ends up with jerkiness in all apps ... Htc does and its very much apparent when scrolling in even 3rd party apps ... I think in the end you need to play with both phones for few minutes to see the difference and make a decision

- Sony has its own bootloader unlocker, or you can use Flashtool
I can't give you any answers regarding kernel stuff and things like that, since i'm not a dev. Would i recommend the Ultra over the Z1? It really depends. Do you want a big or a "small" device? They are identical hardware wise - except for the camera and screen - where the Ultra has the superior screen (AH-IPS on the Ultra vs VA TFT on the Z1), while the Z1 has a much better camera (The Ultra's camera is really bad). Rooting is a b**** at the moment since the latest firmware fixed an exploit, so it's not that straight forward to root it if you're on the latest firmware (you can always downgrade, though). Am i happy with the Ultra? Very. There are no serious bugs (in the latest fw), the battery is good, screen is good etc.
It's a business/geek device.
That's it for now i guess. For the more technical kernel questions and stuff like that, i'll have to give my stick to someone else.
@LordManhattan
Thank you, been looking into upgrading from my Xperia S
I dont like that with Z1 unlocking your bootloader breaks the camera
ZU may be my choice

I recommend you to check it out in a store before buying/ordering it if you have the chance. It's really big, but it grows on you after about a week and it won't be so intimidating, but again; it's big

it is definitely big, and also heavy with my 4500 mah battery case, but it is SO growing on me, hehe. the display is awesome, and the stock rom runs great, and i have plenty of battery life even without my battery case.
the funny thing is, the device actually felt small to me at first. the reason being that it reminded me of a Nexus 7 2013, but it's small for an N7

I haven't really played any CPU/GPU intensive games, except for Riptide GP 2, and I've had no issues with overheating at all. It may - as all devices, give off some heat but it won't melt your hands or burn down your house.
GTA might heat it up a bit if you play for awhile and especially if you're charging it at the same time, though. We don't really know until you try it.

The phone is amazing, after 1-2 days its not actually as big as you first think. The speed, is incredible, the screen is Godly. The battery life isnt great but its ok, at 5-5.5 hours of screen time. I love it... but i think i will be returning it now.
why?
Because the Camera quality is beyond bad. If you intend to take any pictures at all, dont get this phone.
Saying the camera is bad makes it sound good, its really really really reallyyyy bad. Like in perfect lighting conditions itl take a photo about the quality of a phone 2-3 years ago.
If the conditions are anything but perfect... WOW i mean, a pastel painting may be more accurate at displaying what you took a photo of.
Im not some photographer or photo snob, I just like to occasionally take out my phone and snap a photo which i have done with my last 4 phones with pleasure. But not this one.
so dont be disappointed when every single photo that you take looks like complete utter trash.

I play games on it, real racing 3, asphalt 8, deadtrigger, GTA 3. No overheating problems at all, I think due to the glass on the back heat is quickly transferred to the air.
Simply amazing phone, in fact the best Phablet on the market for someone like me who switched from Samsung's Galaxy Note series. Yes the Camera low light performance is useless but you need to consider how important imaging is to you or the lack of flash. I really don't mind as long as they improve the internal camera app. It is let down by poor software optimizations.
To get the best out of XZU, you need to install the Paranoid Android ROMs and let the magic happen. I have not done it yet but will wait for a stable rooting option before I go through all this as all the current solutions require too much effort and risk and I cannot afford it with this beauty.
Welcome to the world of - Ultra!
You will be happy to have this device. I love it. I've had other phablets, and this has proven to be the best so far.
- Build quality is amazing!
- UI is super smooth
- Battery is ok. You'll get a day out of it at least.
- Sony updates and dev support is great... best I've had so far.
- Gaming is great. I've had no stutters, and all games have been on Max.
- Connectivity is good. wifi sometimes lacks range and will disconnect when I'm 8-10m away from router. That's strange.
- Camera is ok. Its 5 / 10 so average.. From what you say its probably only slightly better than the 'S'
** maybe you can make a kernel for my rom?? Be good to have more than base tweaks **

Hi all.
I have a Jiake Jk-760 running android 4.4.2 KitKat with a 5inch screen.
This phone looks very much like a Samsung Galaxy A5.
Whether it's a clone of the A5 or not I'm not sure but yes its a cheap Chinese thing but I don't spend big money on very good phones because they don't last me much more than 7-8 months (working in agriculture)
Anyway I want to strike a balance between battery life (which on this phone is so so) and displaying all the info I need on my home screen.
I just want people to share their experiences and advise as I appreciate any info anyone is willing to share!
Nova seems a battery drainer to me, running the standard built in lollipop theme and cLOCK weather widget.
Themer is a lagfest and Google now works fine.
What else can i try as I'm terrible for chopping and changing my set up almost daily?

Seems if someone actually has one of these cheapy chinese things most people here seem to scream and head for the nearest jungle or very large forest, not to come out for 100 years until the Cheap Chinese handsets are long gone.
(said with a strong wind and a tumble weed blowing across the path)

Well I'm just going to say one thing.
Im not asking for anything and I'm not whinging as some like to say alot here.
I'm just making a regular users opinion and feed back.......
I'm using Nova 3.3 on my Jiake JK 760 running kit kat which is a Samsung galaxy A5 clone supposedly........
Since the 3.3 update Nova has become a real battery drainer.
I have nothing else installed.
Changed my launcher to Google now, bit more lag but no battery drain.
Nova never used to drain my battery but I do like the new design......some launchers are now so alike I can't tell the difference between them!
Let me say again, this is an opinion and I don't expect a lot of abuse back saying I'm wrong or others don't have the battery drain I experience, its an opinion and no one has to agree with it!
my battery life is usually 10 hours plus with data and WiFi enabled, not bad for a cheap Chinese Clone.
Just in case anyone decides to mention the fact I'm using Nova on a cheap Chinese phone, I also use it on a 2nd gen MotoG and a galaxy S running lollipop........ And Nova drains the battery far more than other launchers which are available.
