Hi,
I am having this error whenever I try to install any app from play store. May I know the reason please, and how to fix it?
Try some anti virus.
In normal cases, there are only 2 reasons for this,
Memory full because of users own stuff (very rare)
Or because of a virus (most of the cases)
What is ur device model by the way???
In some old devices, apps installed on phone memory also occupies space and make this happen.
Remove bloatware from your phone. Maybe that will help.

Link some of the apps to the external if you have root access.

I don't have any external card for storage. My phone still has 12 gb of space.

i have lenovo k3. It has 12gb of space . i did virus scan, and it did not solve.
Any idea guys?
Wipe data of Google Play Store.
Use Cleaner in Security app or use SD Maid by downloading 'apk' from Google. Else wipe data of play store
I did everything, still it didnt work
anything else?
Use this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.diskusage&hl=en
Send a screenshot of your disk usage, may not have space allocated to internal data where apps are stored, may have room on phone but space is allocated to something else

Here you go man!
I assume you are rooted as you are running miui, use the same app to check other partitions such as /cache
The way apps are downloaded from the play store there has to be some room there too, problem may be partition size
Also it may help running a logcat during the download process and follow the error
My phone is not rooted. I flashed CWM through Command prompt (some kind of program). Then I flashed MIUI from CWM.
When I looked for cache, it gave me this error (in attachment).
Try going into cwm and wiping cache and dalvik and also clear data in play store
If you can pull a logcat that would be great too

I'm not being funny mate but isn't this the most obvious thing, you clearly have too many files and you've like ran out of space, at least that's the way it looks, move some apps to external sd card or just delete..SIMPLES
this happened to me before, apparently some apps after being uninstalled, still have some files left over, if you try to reinstall the same app, you will get the error.
check under the data folder for any remnants of the app you're trying to install, its likely that it left some behind.
hope this helps!
Thank you but the strange thing is that i have more than 5 giga empty in my internal memory!!!!!!!

m having the same problem. i have 4+ gb space empty but still a few apps are not installing. this happened after root. it there anything wrng??????????
Guys, sit back and relax. It is not important how much free space you have on internal or external SD card, but how much leftovers are still persisting in Data partition.
Easiest way to sort it out: use LuckyPatcher (please do not ask from where to take it), Start it, use troubleshooting, and choose Remove fixes and backups (insufficient storage available).

It happens when you have unused odex files in data/app
Can remove manually or use luckypatcher (on latest version it' s an automated process to check and remove unused odex at launch)
So simply run Luckypatcher and try once again
Regardless of what I do, how many apps I uninstall, how many apps I downgrade, or how many "sacrifices"(lol) I make, my phone keeps populating the internal space and giving me a Low on Space message which keeps me from installing/updating or doing anything really. Last night I had 104mb free, now I have 48mb, all I did was sleep.
I'm running a V6 Supercharger script and thats really all I can think about that would be causing these problems.
I use app2sd to move all the apps I can over.
A virus? It would be a first for me on android.
I'm using a Huawei Mercury with the leaked "factory" 4.0.1 install. I performed the upgrade about 4 months ago and haven't had problems until maybe a month ago. Maybe a hard reset, or factory data reset and a reinstallation of everything will resolve it, but i'm afraid of it happening again.
I have 1gb allocated to the rom/apps, and then 2gb internal storage that I just don't use.
I've fixed the problem a few times and it just happens again, any help would be greatly appreciated! :crying:

Is what i do about once a month is format my sd card and re-partition it,this keeps the access trash(files, apps, etc.)from cluttering everything up,you using app2sd isnt going to be enough,as soon as you run out of allocated space in your ext.it will start using your internal, hence the low space warning.Nand your existing rom, then backup everything up to your desktop, format your entire phone sd card and all, reinstall the app2sd,then restore your nand.If your still having this problem, then its either an app thats installed or the rom.

The phone has a 1GB for the rom, 2GB Internal, and a 16GB SD.
I don't understand how to keep the 1GB partition from mysteriously filling up regardless of how much I delete.
I always though the apps were suppose to go to the 2GB internal phone partition but they are right along side the ROM, that confuses me. I wish there was a way to truly delete built in apps and not just "disable" them.
Do u use 4g? I heard of problems with it saving cache stuff then not clearing it out.

a factory reset will clear up internal memory on a lot of android devices. remember to back up first if you choose to factory reset it
Hey.
I have seen this issue pop up a lot with no real resolution.
My girlfriends S2 keeps trying to update applications such as Chrome and Whats App, and they keep on failing to update. It seems like it downloads the update but when it attempts to install it, it gives an error saying there is insufficient space. Also, I can download other applications fine it seems.
Here is the storage specs.
Internal Storage Total Space 1.97gb Available 160mb
Internal Storage Total Space 11.49gb Available 8.14gb
SD Card Total Space 1.84gb Available 1.82gb
USB storage doesn't show anything, it just says Storage Space is running out.
I deleted the log files and all but it still happens. Tried clearing the dalvhik cache but nothing seems to work!
Would appreciate any help please
1st of all
As this is a question, it would be more appropriate to put it in Q&A thread, don't you think?
2nd. Some options you can try:
Clear data of Google play and Google service framework. Reboot
Delete the google account, reboot and re-enter it.
Or go into CWM and wipe data/factory reset as your absolute last option. Don't for get to backup, if you try this option.
Good luck
Yeah true maybe a mod can move it sorry.
Do I do that by going into Applications and Clearing the data?
When you say delete the google account do you mean like remove her account from the phone and readd it?
EDIT
I deleted the data in Play and Google services and it still doesn't work.
I seen it mentioned before that doing a factory reset does not solve the problem
Not google services, google services framework
Yes you can do that in application manager
Yes remove account from settings, reboot and re-enter it.

Okay I did the account deletion and it seemed to fix it.
All the applications that couldn't previously update, updated.
Vine gave an insufficient space error but then I tried to update it again and it worked fine.
But Chrome wont install.
It was previously installed but couldn't update, so I deleted it. And now I can't install it.
Says insufficient space. Any recommendations?

You probably should know that when the system storage (where apps are) get's "full" when it reaches something near 1.7 GB out of 1.9, mainly because the rest is needed for cache storage etc..
So i recommend keepng it below 1.65 GB, do you have below 1.65 GB?
Try to delete what you think is unnecessary apps. Install google chrome and if it works, means you don't have enough space..

Yeah I deleted some things and it works fine.
So the problem is the internal storage.
It says Internal Storage Total Space 1.97gb Available 500mb
However, apps are only taking up like 200mb and cache is like 1.3mb so where is the rest of the data being saved?
Her other storage space is like 8gb free so why aren't apps saving to that?

If you have 500mb available, you have more than enough free space..
Cache are in insternal storage, but mostly are in /data/data folder.
The other storage is where pictures, videos etc are stored.
Hi,
I am running the latest Omni ROM nightly (12/17) and my internal storage has a major bug where it says I have 170Mb free space when only ~400Mb is actually used by apps and caches, this is out of the 2Gb possible.
To see if this was a bad flash I verified the MD5 on my 12/17 nightly ROM and then re-flashed Omni which on first boot correctly presented the internal storage full space but after the first play store app was installed (xda premium) it jumped back to the space situation described above.
I can't install any more play store apps due to "insufficient storage"
Anyone have this happen or have any idea's?
Thanks,!

Yes and after it did have the correct internal flash size then I installed an app from the play store and checked the internal storage and it was broken again

You know..... I would've just asked in the Omni thread or pm'd the dev. Just my silly logical thinking i suppose.
I don't have 10 posts the minimum to comment in the other sub-forums. Yes I could've PM'ed the OP but that is only a single person audience.
-Have you tried different apps as your "first app install"?
-What housekeeping did you perform inbetween your prior firmware and OMNI?
-Have you tried and observed this behavior on other ROMS since it has shown up on OMNI?

Insufficient storage issue
I have Omni ROM 4.4.2 (26.12.2013 nightly build + kernel - 3.0.6-CM-ge07399aa) installed in my samsung Galaxy Note 1.
Phone works fine but when I try to install an app (size doesn't matter) it reports that it has insufficient space.
In storage, phone tells that Internal sotrage first has 216 MB space free and second has 10.53 GB free and further this I have external SD card with 8 GB memory.
looked at other posts and tried various options with different cache clean options etc but no benefit. I don't want to wipeout the entire phone.
Please help me.

You might have to, but not all is lost. Install Titanium Backup and back up the apps you have (don't back up system data). Next, do a wipe of everything and restore the apps using Titanium Backup. It's worth a try to see if this resolves the issue.

Having the same issues ! , even after wiping and formatting (it did work for a while , then came back)..
i Started deleting apps - but for some reason "free space" does not grow back to normal (i.e - clearing an app that weighs 2gb does not show the space was claimed back...)
I have the same problem It is common on Android from what i have seen on many threads and websites, but not found an answer any where

Install SD Maid from the Play Store and run a corpse cleaner and system cleaner. Click refresh then clean, make sure you have all boxes ticked in settings for all corpses. Then tell me what you're moving to SD: Just the app, or app + data, or anything else? What kinds of apps, I expect games will have more stuff in /data/app because of libs and stuff, or maybe in /sdcard/data or /sdcard/Android/data so that may be why you can install big apps. Also just consider that you may just not have enough room.
Thanks
