6 Digit Encryption Password ?? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys
I was just about to encrypt my phone (samsung s5, lollipop) but before encrypting it the phone is asking me to set the lock screen type.
I always have my lock screen set to 4 digit pin but the only options it gives me are password or fingerprint. All the others are greyed out and say “Disabled by administrator, encryption policy, or credential storage”.
Am i really stuck with having to put in a 6 digit password every time i want to use my phone just to be able to have it encrypted?
If so i can understand why people are annoyed with their new phones with lollipop pre installed having encryption enabled by default.

That's how Samsung locks things down, I suppose. I have an 8-character password to boot up and a pattern lock for the screen on my N5.

So it's Samsung that's disabling the 4 digit pin and not the lollipop OS?

I would imagine so. I had a pattern lock for boot up a few days ago.

[Q]Forgot pincode/ password

I kinda feel that this isn't completely relevant but I'm kind off not doing so good. The other night I changed my phone lock from pattern to pin code (done on the verge of sleeping) and I forgot my pin code. Is there anyway to reset my galaxy player without by passing the lock or something. Its not yet rooted and its a galaxy player 5.0. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
if u mess up on pin more than 5 times, there should be a forgot your password option on the bottom
Did you have android debugging checked in settings? If you did, you can use adb to bypass the lock

[Q] [S][Security] How to replace Pin Unlock with normal unlock?

Hello, i think it's not becoming clear from the title, but i don't know how exactly to name it. I have a corporate email set on my Xperia S. Since the email is corporate, i had to set Pin Unlock, which is something i don't like at all - especially when i'm driving. Is there a way to trick the security settings or the android to think that i'm using pin code unlock, but instead to use the normal unlock screen? The only possible unlock solutions which i have now (having in mind that the device security is managed by the exchange service) are pin or password unlock.

Did I get that right? You want Android to think you have a PIN, but don't want to enter the code?
You could make a delay until lock, so if your phone switched off, and you turned it on again after a minute, it's not locked yet.
Actually it's almost as you say - i want to be able to lock it and use the normal unlock slide instead of entering a pin, without having to remove the device security setting - basically trick the phone that a pin unlock is used. I still want to be able to lock the phone, since otherwise it's not sleeping properly and is reducing even more the already short battery life.

I don't think it's possible.

MM locking with password "randomly"

so with the update to MM I'm finally able to use the fingerprint unlock with a case, but either I missed something or it's still somewhat annoying to use. after booting up I need to enter a password, which I'm okay with, however after using my device for a bit and letting it go to lock there are times where I need to re-enter my password instead of the fingerprint and this is without rebooting. is this normal?
EDIT: so I came across a few places that mention the use of Nova Launcher or 3rd party lockscreen apps... I don't have any of the latter, but I do have Nova Launcher except I'm not using that to lock my screen. am I missing something here?
It will do that I believe as a default. You can set up a smart place, like home, on your person, whatever, and it won't lock with a password. I use it on mine for the house, and certain devices it connects to.

I believe there may be an issue now... I just unlocked my device using the fingerprint and I have my device set to lock after 10 minutes. Less than 10 minutes after my screen goes off I wake up my device with a double tap and it's locked, prompting for a password!

Can't disable screen lock on samsung-stang5litre edition 5.0 password

Hello,
I'm pretty good at computers but when it comes to phones I'm a dummy. I set a password in my Galaxy S5 running samsung-stang5litre edition 5.0 I just bought this phone and it had this ROM installed. I looked up instructions online for this phone to remove it (settings are not working or showing for this ROM) for this phone model and there are no instructions for this ROM. How do I remove the password or do I have to reset this phone ? If I reset the phone will it still ask for the password ? The person who sold me this phone also changed how this ROM looks and deleted almost every program out of it before I bought it. Please help me.
Found help
Since no one answered back I contacted someone to help me. I'd have never figured this out by myself. I'm so glad for his help. This is what worked.
What you have to do to remove that pin, go to Settings>Lock Screen> Screen Lock> Pattern> Setup any pattern, then setup Pin Code with it after you setup the Pattern. (You already have a Pin set in, just use it). It will ask you to type it in twice.
Now Power Off and Power On the phone it will ask for the pattern, do 5 to 6 wrong patterns, it might time you out for 30 seconds after that, on the bottom right of the phone it will say "use your Pin Code", hit that button, type in the Pin which you already setup while you were setting up your pattern, then use that Pin Code to unlock the phone. Now Power Off and Power On the phone, you shouldn't have any pin or pattern code to unlock anymore.
This worked for me.

Question Lock screen asks for pin

Hi,
I am using fingerprint sensor and smart unlock but several times a day and every morning the phone is manually locked and I have to enter my pin again. Is there a setting I am missing here?
same here. also it keeps asking pin through the day!
also I'd appreciate if I won't need to confirm pin once is entered correctly (just numbers then unlock instantly)

Is it that your phone is rebooting? There have been people reporting random reboots with their devices ..

Thats true, the extra confirming is annoying as hell...I think smart lock introduced this issue, so I will try to turn it off for now...

I have not noticed any reboots yet but I dont think that the problem. I still see notifications on the lock screen. I believe that would not be the case if the phone rebooted.

Smart lock relocks after 4 hours of inactivity and apparently defaults to PIN or Pattern, not FP.

That explains it, but it is not smart at all :-/

Doesn't seem to matter whether it's active or inactive. It seems to re-lock and require a PIN every 4 hours.
Extremely annoying. SmartLock on my Samsung phone didn't behave like that.
Disabling smart lock fixed it for me, make sure are smart lock triggers are gone

So now it is always locked and the FP is the default? I like having it unlocked at Trusted Places for 4 hours better.

I might just try this. I used smartlock on my Galaxy s20 FE because the fingerprint sensor was way down at the bottom and was difficult to reach, so I would just press the power button and swipe up on the screen.
However, I discovered with the Pixel 6, that when it's smart locked, if you just touch the fingerprint sensor icon, it turns on the screen and opens the phone. (without it actually triggering the fingerprint sensor) No pressing the power button or swiping required.
So I've started getting into the habit of just pressing the fingerprint icon anyway, even when it's unlocked with smartlock. So, as long as the fingerprint sensor is reliable enough, I don't really need the smart lock. I would be doing the same motion to unlock it with the fingerprint. (Although it will be a little slower and possibly a bit more unreliable)
Well, I don't think it's smartlock related. I turned off smartlock a half hour ago and used the fingerprint sensor to unlock it several times since then, and then a couple of minutes ago, it forced me to enter the PIN. Almost exactly 4 hours after the last time I had to enter a PIN.
I was wondering exactly the same... it's a weird behavior.
I think it may be a 'feature'. A fingerprint is considered somewhat less secure by Google. Ironic, given on a P6 it seems to lock folk out a lot of the time!

As you say, annoying though.

Did you reboot the phone after changing the smartlock setting? Perhaps the phone has held onto that setting in memory.
i am having the same nightmare here. Considering i am wearing gloves most of the time, i need to usesmart unlock. but then every few hours i need to type pin, plus i need to press entre. it really breaks flow here

Smart lock resets every four hours, which requires you to enter your PIN to unlock for another four hours.
Confirming a pin makes it more secure, as now the number of digits in your pin is also hidden. In theory, this would make a 4 digit as secure a as 10 digit one as a potential thief would not know which to try.
