Hello all, I have found an unusual problem. I noticed that the button on my gear fit was stuck in the down/on position after I had come off a flight. I figured i might have had a pressure seal problem with my unit. I swapped with my wife's gear fit and the same thing happened to her watch after another flight. This leaves the watch constantly in a reset loop and unresponsive to button presses. It took a few days before the button on my wife's watch to 'pop out' again, i had to pry my one out with a blade. Has this happened to anybody else? My wife and I had bought our watches from independent places and a few months apart. Looks to be a design problem.
This just happened to me after a flight last night. I hope mine pops out.
The button only seem to stick when returning from a warm country so I think it is a combination of temperature and pressure change. I have been able to get the button released by gently warming it in my hands over a radiator.
My gear fit button was stuck after long flight from warm country to US in winter time. The button is still stuck and Samsung customer service reported never heard of this issue.
This happened to me driving back from Breckenridge, CO, to Austin, TX. I notices on the drive that it restarted itself while I was driving and then the button was stuck in. I waited a couple days to see if it would pop back up but it didn't pop back up on its own. Based on the the above post by Ashoktwo, I wrapped my gearfit in a heating pad for about 10 minuted and when I checked on it, the button had popped back out and it appears to be working fine. I have flown on many flights with this watch and it never happened but this is the first time I've driven to and from such a different altitude. Heating up the watch seems to have fixed the problem.
Seemed to have fixed mine. details are here http://forum.xda-developers.com/gear-fit/help/power-sleep-button-gear-fit-t2844822
gear fit button stuck in after flights
This has also happened to me and it took me a while to realise that it was after i'd been on a flight. Button returns to normal usually within 24 hours of landing and functions perfectly afterwards. Must be related to the pressure I'm guessing. Could only find someone who's also had this problem on this forum so thanks for confirming that there is an issue.
So happy I found this! I was looking at the fully charged watch as we landed, coming from the mountains back to 1000 ft elevation, when it just suddenly stopped, and the button was struck in. Sounded goofy to put it in a heating pad, but did for 15-20 min & it worked like a charm! THANK YOU!
Took button three days to get back to normal behaviour
The button of my Gear Fit was useless after a short flight from Ireland to the Netherlands. Keeping the watch warmly packed helped only for one or two button clicks and then the button was receded and of no use again. The slightest pressure on the button would send the Gear Fit in reset/reboot mode.
However, after three days (and me giving up hope) the button is now back at its normal bouncy behaviour.
I thought I'd post my experience because it might pay off to wait a bit longer. After two days I was considering having it repaired and in the end it turned out okay by itself. I did not even have to repeat heating the device.

I got a radar for free from work, had it for a month or 2 and something funny started happening. Whenever it takes a little tap in the wrong place or i put it in my pocket it turns off. I opened the phone up and completely took it apart and put it back together again making sure that every clip and screw was in place, and the same thing still happen. I'm just curious as to why something like this would happen. And what i mean by a tap i mean a TAP ...like putting my phone down on my desk when i get home causes the phone to shut off. Any help appreciated thank you very much
Just exchange it
^^Agree^^
I agree with MJCS best course would be to get it replaced. My best guess as to the actual problem would be the sim cover malfunctioning. The soim cover has several contacts that when interrupted will shutdown the phone.
me too
Hi hitman21888,
I'm experiencing the same on my HTC Radar, bought about 3 months ago. It's in waves though. When I just got it, it switched off randomly for a week or so, sometimes even 5 times per day, after which the problem disappeared by itself. 3 months past, and last week it started again. Since yesterday the problem disappeared again, yesterday and today the phone kept on during the whole day, so I think it got better again.
When it has this sickness, a hard tap on the screen or putting it FIRMLY on the table makes it switch off, and it switches off by itself aswell. When it's healthy again, tapping or putting it on tables doesn't make it switch off.
I've called HTC on this and they basically didn't recognise the problem, just advise me to do a hard reset. Did it - didn't help.
Have you found out anything?
Hi everybody,
Since this morning, my Huawei Honor U8860 on Gingerbread (stock ROM) keeps showing me the Power Off menu that is usually obtained when one presses the Power button for 1-2secs. After putting the haptic option on, I can say that it pops up every second almost, as this mode makes the phone vibrate when it appears.
I'd like to know what to do to solve this problem, because it prevents me from doing anything with my phone.
Here is what I did so far :
- After a while, I figured that if I pressed continuously the Power button, the menu stops poping up, so it's like the button is working reverse if I'm not wrong...
- Inspired from 'droidforums.net/forum/droid-2-general-discussions/88196-disable-power-options-while-locked.html' I tried then to deactivate this button. So after I rooted my phone, I installed a file browser/editor and modified the following files :
- /system/usr/keylayout/qwerty.kl
- 'key 116 POWER' changed from 'WAKE' to ' ', then to 'NONE', did nothing, then to 'WAKE_DROPPED' , stopped the popup for 10mins, then not anymore- did the same with surf_keypad.kl and touchscreen-keypad.kl with the 'key 87 POWER' as I didn't know if it was useful or not, so just in case.
- Installed 'Button Remapper' to see if it could help, but when I change the POWER button to WAKE_DROPPED or NONE, it doesn't do anything...
So if anybody has an idea to either deactivate the Power Off menu, or maybe deactivating completely the Power button as I tried (I would prefer the first solution, but it could work), you're welcome!
Thank you in advance for any piece of advice.
P.S. : The only reason I could find for this sudden change in behavior is that yesterday night I biked under a hailstorm, so maybe it got humid. But the problem appeared only this morning as I used my phone fine last night...besides the hail didn't really soak like rain, and my phone worked under rain many times before, so I'm really not sure...
So I let my phone on the whole night and it's still doing it, and I'd like to mention that as the Power Off menu continuously pops up, the screen is always on, which kills the battery.
So even though I found a temporary solution by pressing continuously the Power button to make the phone work properly, it's not gonna be a viable solution as the battery is probably not gonna last more than 8-9h...
So if someone has a solution, you're welcome ^^
Up!
I still didn't find any solution to my problem, if anyone has a solution, he's welcome
Hey
I've just started to have to same problem, with my Huawei Honor. a long time ago someone spilled some beer over my phone, and it went crazy for a long time, but then it started to act normal again, and i thought the trouble was over. But now i have the exact same problem, it's like my power button is stuck, i think that we need to change the power button itself or clean it. But so far i haven't succeeded..
And here is a fun fact for you, if you switch to Airplane mode (no antenna signal) or just remove the simcard, you wont have any trouble with the phone at all! Well except that fact that you can't call or receive calls..
Have you done anything after your last post?
Best regards
Alcohol + Glassbrush FTW
Duuude! I solved it!
First i took the motherboard apart and soaked/bath it in alcohol 93 % for about 30 minutes and then dry it the night over.
This morning i brushed the motherboard with a glassbrush (That's what is called in Denmark, it's a fine brush made of tiny glass straws), And voila the phone is now working without a complaint!
I'm not allowed to attach a link to my post so do a googlesearch for: "glasbørste" and look at picture no. 6
I had the same problem as you, a few days after the rain episode everything was fine again, and since then, it happened two times, for like two days where the problem appears again, but then it just goes away.
I don't think I am ready to soak my MB in alcohol and brush it after, so I'll just bear with it ^^
But thanks for the info, and maybe it can help some other people (even though I'd wait a month or two to see if it doesn't do it again after your bath, but let's keep our fingers crossed)
I'm also hitting the same issue for past one month. So not able to use the phone at all. Recently went out of warranty.
Any other solutions?

I had the same problem and i managed to work it out. Firstly i dissembled the phone so i had the motherboard by itself, search on youtube for guide. Then i dipped the motherboard in 93% alcohol, for about 30 minutes, removed it and lot it dry the night over. I then brushed all the exposed metal areas with a glassfiber brush (especially on the backside where it connects with the screen). After that the phone has been working perfectly!

It's a bit complicated but i managed to do it and i'm not the biggest handyman or phone geek, so it's possible. And the phone is just about useless if you do nothing, so you might just as well give it a try.
If it's too much work for you, you can hold the power button when you want to use the phone, this stops the button error..
Best of luck, let me know how you're doing

Same thing happened to me... when water went inside my phone... the POWER MENU was appearing continuously .. when i went to service center they said.. MOTHERBOARD needs to replaced... and the price quoted was equivalent to new device...:crying::crying:
After going thu this youtube video i finally managed to un-assemble my phone fully .. and used HAIR DRYER to for about 4-5 mins...
And than phone started working normally...
Hope it helps some else with the same issue:good::good::good:
Or, how I learned to not rip open phones on a messy desk.
My S2 was my first android phone, and man has it been an incredible phone. Really the only issue was some lockups with an att update, wherein I switched to ParanoidAndroid.
Unfortunately, recently the phone began having power button issues. It wouldn't wake from power presses, it would wake and work, or it would wake and suddenly restart the phone.
I figured it was the power button, so like a true fool, I got to work ripping open the phone to clean the inner guts.
Attached are a few bad pics I got. Good lord these phones get dirty as hell inside!
After spending 15 minutes cleaning the phone and the crap out of the power button, I went to re-assemble it.
When I realized that it was the volume button I was cleaning.
When I realized the power button dropped when I ripped it open.
The lesson here for me:
Open your phone as a last resort
Open your electronics in clean areas, so when you drop things...
and be careful!
I get these a lot. I can solder a new power button on for $50 including return shipping. You can email me @ seivad17 [at] msn.com if interested.
What's the problem? You just need to replace the power button. If you're not afraid of opening up your phone, then you can surely buy a cheap soldering kit and learn how to solder using youtube videos. That's what I did. You'll fix your phone and learn a very useful skill for a very, very small price.
I opened up my phone to fix the power button, and it started working, even though I didn't do much other than blowing some canned air into the area where the actual switch is. But in taking it apart, the vibrator motor got pulled off of its ribbon cable, so it doesn't work anymore. I've taken it apart a couple other times to look closer and see whether it's something I could just solder back on, or if I could buy a replacement part, but every time I open the case I get one or two new cracks in it, so I don't think I'll open it again to finish the job. I'll just live without the vibrator motor until I get a new phone.
Mine also failed recently due to the power button. It's nearly two years old, so I replaced it anyway. Think I'm going to buy a replacement power switch and see what I can do--maybe give it to a friend or something.
The strange thing is, when I pull it apart and use the phone without the actual power tab (rubber) in the slot, it will work. But not every time. So I'm thinking the button itself was being pressed too firmly while in the case/my pocket, which caused the switch itself to fail.

I had something very similar. Used it for a few days after I switched on the Volume as screen activation (on CM). Then it stopped charging. Ended up being a ribbon cable from charging port to main board was bad. Got it replaced and it's as good as new.
Mine acts strange. When I put the battery, it automatically turns on and power button doesn't work, also USB but if I push USB really hard it gets working but works too bad. I cant make factory restore because of the power button, but also the battery is replacement battery, I charged it outside of the phone with the charger and in 30 minutes dropped from 21% to 10%, even doing nothing. So is it battery problem or my charging dock needs to be replaced? battery is 2200 Mah.
I had the same problem with my Cappy. I was able to get by still because I could still get into recovery. I just downloaded an app from the Play store that allowed me to have advanced reboot option. When I wanted to turn it off I just removed the battery.
I had seen a guy use a type of cleaner for electronic equipment that he sprayed inside a few times and operated the button. He said he was able to fix the problem. I don't remember the spray though.

I'm going to fix my s3 and captivate. I looked up how easy it is and I was very pleased. Hoping to get it done soon.

My power button died a few months ago and I've been using an app called "Wake Up Screen!!!" that let's me shake the phone when I want to turn it on.
It's getting a bit old, so I'm thinking of rooting it so I can map the power button to the volume button. Anyone know if I'll need to use the power button during the root process? This stuff is all new to me.
Hi all,
Looking for a bit of advice as to whether there is any hope left for my poor S3.
Back in November I dropped it down the toilet (don't ask!). Although I was able to scoop it back out of the water, the damage was clearly done. I stupidly turned the phone back on pretty much immediately and the screen flickered and went dead. The phone seemed to be a goner.
Since then, I completely dismantled the phone and battery and placed them in a bag of rice in my airing cupboard at home. I've left it there for the past 5 months and now, when I take it out of the rice and put it all back together, then phone boots up (I managed to flash a official firmware image back from a slimrom I had on there successfully) and loads perfectly into android. I can then use the phone absolutely fine, open apps, play music, take photographs, for around 30-40 secs until the screen just stops responding completely! It is soooo frustrating. Once this happens, it can take some time to get the phone to reboot in the same way and allow me to use the screen, often booting up and being completely unresponsive.
When the screen stops responding, all the hardware buttons continue to function as expected and both of the buttons (back and menu, I think) either side of the home button continue to respond by giving haptic feedback and sounds.
This has been the case with the phone now for the past couple of months. Each time I try it, I just get frustrated and pull it apart again and put it back into the bag of rice in the cupboard. I have been reluctant to get rid of the phone (won't get much money for it as it is water damaged) in the hope that it will miraculously start working properly again. This doesn't look like it is going to happen and I am now thinking of getting rid of the phone for what little money I can get for it. It is in mint condition minus the screen not responding - I had only had it for 3 months when I dropped it!!
My question then is; is there anything else I can do or try to get the screen to continue responding for more than 30 secs after I reboot it? It just strikes me as odd (and incredibly annoying!) that the screen is obviously capable of working for a set duration but then consistently stops responding after a consistent amount of time. If it can work for 30 secs, why can't it continue to work!? Any ideas as to what might be causing it to lock up?
I'd be really grateful to hear any ideas or suggestions.
Thanks.
No, there is no miracle fix for water damage. Almost certainly the corrosion has caused an increase in resistance, hence why it works for a few seconds until it overheats. As the voltages are tiny even a slight change will break the screen.

I thought as much.
Oh well it was worth asking.
Thanks for at least clearing up why it is probably working for a short time.
Has anyone had to return their Moto 360 yet? Mine stopped responding to touch on the bottom 1/3 of the screen near the beginning of this week. I had a pattern lock set up and couldn't get past it as the bottom was unresponsive. After a few attempts the factory reset screen came up but the accept button was on the bottom. After a few minutes of tapping it finally recognize one and performed a factory reset. Upon reboot the bottom was still unresponsive.
I called Moto support and they are sending me a new one. They offered to have me send in my current one first and then send me a new one, or put a $99 hold on my credit card and pay $24.99 for shipping. I went for the latter and a new one will be shopping soon.
I'm wondering if anyone else has had screen issues and how wide spread it is. Also has anyone had any issues with returns?
Anyone?
None here... Yet!
I was in a meeting 2 weeks ago and checked the time and my whole screen was unresponsive, just a black screen even with always on mode enabled. I tried for like 20 minutes to get it to respond to touch and nothing. I got home and thought the battery might be dead even though I only had it on for 10 hours so I put it in it's charging craddle and still nothing. I went to get my phone to check bluetooth and it said watch was connected, checked android wear and it said connected too. Went back to get the watch and it was now on and showing 50% battery. This was 2 weeks ago and haven't had the problem re-occur. I paid for the extended warranty plan so not to concerned right now, and as I already scratched the screen I will most likely replace it anyways.

My 360 did get a little sluggish at times and froze a couple of times prior to the final issues I had with the bottom. I also had a message on occasion saying android wear had stopped and would eventually restart. When I had a freeze holding down the power button will eventually do a restart. All of those issues I attributed to buggy software that I hope gets solved in future updates. My final issue involving the bottom portion being unresponsive persisted after a factory reset.

I never had an issue with it before this happened. And holding the button down didn't do anything for for me, it still remained off even after holding it for over a minute. It just came back on all on its own for whatever reason and luckily hasn't happened again.
Well this isn't looking good. Spent two hours on the phone with Motorola support and was transferred about seven times before someone could figure out what happened to my RMA. I did finally get someone to help me but she had to start the whole process over. My credit card was refunded for the hold and shipping fee and the new one is now supposed to be "rushed".
Just an update
At this point I have spoken to over a dozen reps(I lost count), was transferred back and forth between several departments, was hung up on several times(I even switched phones to make sure it wasn't on my end), and spent countless hours trying to get this resolved. I've never had such horrible customer service. Finally yesterday I received an email with a working promo code for a new watch using the moto-maker site and am crossing my fingers I'll have a new one soon.
Sorry for the rant, I actually started this thread to see how many had any hardware problems, not to complain about Moto support. I was actually hopeful about the whole thing as there wasn't much response to my original inquiry here, but this last week has really turned me off of Motorola.
Update: New 360 arrived today.
My Moto's touch stopped working yesterday. It started with "phantom touches", where the display lighted up as if I touched it. When I actually touched the display, it was partially unresponsive. When I tried swiping, the menus stuck in between and were shaking horizontally. I could hard-reset the watch by pressing the button for 30 seconds. After that, the watch was working fine for a few minutes, then the trouble started all over again. Today, it got even worse as the display did not react on any touches any more...
I was able to reset it to factory settings, but it didn't help, so it does not seem to be a software issue.
Luckily I had ordered it at Amazon a few weeks ago, so I am getting a new watch as replacement. I hope I just had bad luck with that watch, and it's not a general issue.

That's what I am hoping as you and I are the only ones responding with problems so far. As you can see from my other posts I don't think Motorola even knew how to handle a return for one of these. Amazon should be a much more pleasant experience in that regard.
Did you get any type of additional warranty from Amazon?

No... I made the experience that Amazon Germany often just sends out a replacement when an article is defective a few days after delivery. They never fail to impress me with their customer service...
Going through this a second time really sucks. Last week my watch was on the charger all night and by morning the screen had a cyan dot that was dark in the middle and faded to black near the edge of the face. I tried holding down the side button to reset it but it still booted up to the cyan dot.
I started the process last Friday and got a promo code for a new watch. Used the promo code on the Moto Maker website and got the process going. At the end I hit the place order button and I get an error message telling me to call support. Ugh. I didn't have time to deal with it then, but my shopping cart was still showing the watch in it and that there was an order placed. I called today and at first the woman helping me couldn't find anything using the RMA # or the order number I had. When she finally figured out what happened she said the order didn't go through and my promo code was still good. She then tried to blame the error on my web browser.
I have seen news floating around there is currently a lawsuit against Lenovo\Motorola for failure to fulfill their warranties. Is it okay to post information and links on xda concerning the lawsuit for anyone who might be interested?
