[Q][IMPORTANT] OTA Update Notifications after Boot loader U/L! - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone!
I Unlocked my bootloader about 7 months ago. I read somewhere in XDA that If you unlock your BL ,you won't receive OTA UPDATES.
But all of a sudden this noon I received bunch of notification inculding Xperia system update (update to 23.1.A.1.28), Video app, Info Eye , Whats New and photo editor app updates suggesting me to update them to the latest version and especially after 7 months and after I unlocked my bootloader! This is the first time i receive such notifications after unlocking my BL!
I'm currently on 23.1.A.0.690 Build!
now here is the question!
Should I Update my phone system (not apps) Using this OTA updates? or it's risky and my phone gets bricked and I should use the same old ftf way or CMW Recovery Update?
Please Answer Me , I'm So confused if this is a change in Sony rules or it's just a notification that everyone with unlocked BL used to receive and I should update too!!!
update: My rooting status in Service Menu is: Unknown!!!!!
update 1: I Updated Photo Editor, Video and What's New from what's New App itself!

Just update, your phone will continue to work normally

Its a possibility the verifacation system that stops after Ub ot root, its possible that it may fail to check properly hence some people have OTA on Root and unlocked bootloaders

Ok Thanks, But isn't it risky to update through this OTA Notifications? because I haven't updated with this notification yet.
I mean if I update with this does my phone get bricked?
My point is Should I update Using this notification or use the old way?
thanks for your response!

No, you just lose root and if your jumping android versions or a kernel change then if your on UB then your kernel becomes stock.

[Q] Rooting And Unlocking Bootloader Vs. Rooting Only

If I Unlock The Bootloader Will I Get The ICS Update This April ? Or I Still Get It If I Dont Unlock It. *Im Not A Professional Rooter*
Xperias with unlocked bootloaders won't get official updates.
#correct if im wrong!
you will get the update. just install it with pc companion. if that wont work, youll get the flashable files in dev section.
don't worry someone will make ftf file and you can also update via wotanserver.
If you unlock the bootloader, then there's a risk your phone will be bricked when you update firmware over the air using seus or pccompanion. You should update it offline using flashtool and ftf firmware file.
If you unlock it and use a custom rom, then I don't think you would get official update notification anyway.
If you're not planning to use custom kernel or custom rom, then I suggest you only need to root it .

There's a big risk on unlocking the bootloader because we wont be able to receive official updates or even void our warranty with our manufacturers. Make sure that you know the advantages and disadvantages of unlocking the bootloader before proceeding.

OTA update to 6.1.A.2.45 for rooted Xperia S with unlocked bootloader

I have a rooted Xperia S with unlocked bootloader, by following instructions on this thread.
Today I received a notification about OTA update to 6.1.A.2.45 (40MB in size) and I was wondering if I can apply this update without loosing root. I really did search for an answer on the forum before making this post and couldn't find anything specific for my phone, but what I did found only confused me more, which is to be expected since I am a noob. Apparently it worked for some users of Xperia Play with unlocked bootloader, but on the other hand some users of Xperia Arc S say that bootloader should be locked when making an OTA update.
I would really appreciate any help from more experienced members, I'm new in Android and don't want to start by bricking my phone.
Thank you for your time and effort.
Boom
better dont, you will end up with a bricked device. NEVER accept OTA updates if your bootloader is unlocked.
Don't update with PCC when you're unlocked.
Wow, that was fast! Thank you guys.
hi, did you find how to update?

i also have an open bootloader although not root, but i tried updating using the phone's OTA and PCC and neither worked. I promptly realized it might just be the open bootloader which is keeping me from updating, so how do we manually update? if you have any procedures will highly appreciate anyone..... thanks in advance

You can find your regions FW. (firmware) and download it, after that download and install flashtool, and flash the .ftf file via flashtool and that is it.
thanks for the quick reply

Im going to engage in a rather noobish conversation but i want to be completely sure before i proceed to install. my phone and my pc companion both find the update which is 6.1.a.2.45, which i assume is the one i need to find on .ftf. after downloading it from wherever i find it i just open the flash tool program and select it to start the installation? and again thank you

i did a fast search and found this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31011440#post31011440
they have some firmwares there, but they seem to be full updates, because they are 300+mb while the update on my phone its only 40mb.
so should i just download the generic and proceed to flash?

Hmmm,
Slightly different scenario here.
I have a rooted xperia S with a locked bootloader and obviously want to preserve root.
Previous experience tells me that a PC update from SEUS does a full wipe of the phone and looses root however OTA updates usually preserve root. I was hoping somebody could clarify if this is still the case?
Thanks
if your bootloaders unlocked you cant update ota or via seus. it will just give an error about your device being modified

same question as you, i have a rogers xperia s with a stock uk rom, it's rooted but bootloader is still locked. Just want to make sure that i don't loose root, or the root method can still be applied after the update.
i found something which might help you

there is a rom somewhere in another forum i guess which already is updated and rooted. so you might want to just download that one and flash it. it has its own kernel and recovery.

I've not been on much recently at all so I could be wrong, but I'm sure it's been said that you can flash ROM such as the linked one when bootloader is locked and perhaps the pre-rooted one too. May need to search the thread.
Nothing out there that allows me to root my Xperia S on ICS without wiping my data though I think. One can wait... or dream. :[

Yeah having too wipe at this point is a bummer. If I'm going to wipe my phone ill wait for the ability to unlock my locked bootloader.
Problem with that is I will most likely have a new phone by then.

[Q] About ota Update

Dear friends,
I've a moto e which was rooted once and it's bootloader was also unlocked, But someone told me if you want to receive ota updates you have to unroot and then I just un-rooted my device. But still my phone's bootloader is unlocked, Will it cause my phone to not receive ota update?
If I update the ota with my bootloader unlocked device, Will it brick my phone???
Thank you in advance....

No there is no need to lock bootloader...you just need to completely unroot your device n be on stock rom without any modifications in system apps...thats it you'r ready to go for OTA..but Official lollipop is not yet released...they just released test build for limited users of MFN.
Thank you
Thank you for replying...
What is this modification in system apps??
I just uninstalled some of my system apps when my phone was in rooted state...
Will it harm my phone on update??

Please Answer Me , I'm So confused if this is a change in Sony rules or it's just a notification that everyone with unlocked BL used to receive and I should update too!!!

update 1: I Updated Photo Editor, Video and What's New from what's New App itself!

I Know Rules , but here is supposed to be correct place to ask question not General Forum.
I tried to delete the other thread but there wasn't an option to do so.
