I was just wondering if there was any recovery/rom development started for us yet? I exchanched a kindle fire for nook tab because of the more ram and storage, but may go back if we're not gonna get the development the fire has already. I've this device, but sure is a lot harder to customize than the fire.

There is no recovery/roms yet until eather b&n or devs of this Forum give a solution for locked Bootloader. Without that development of that kind is stuck .

You don't need much to customize this thing besides root really (or at least it helps a bunch).
This is what I managed to throw together today.
there is this too....

In terms of customizing - you can get a pretty customized/pure android tablet experience with root and a third party launcher (i use golauncher). The unlocked bootloader will be nice to allow for things like overclocking and hopefully enabling the Bluetooth chip but otherwise I'm very happy with the functionality as it stands now.

I'm really hoping there's more info soon, I got mine for free too. The weird thing is that even the people at Verizon didn't have a lot of info on their own device. Anyone know if it has NFC? There are many sources both ways.
Got mine for free as well, but seems very slow.. I know it only has 1gb Ram but I figured with a quad core it could at least run streampix and Netflix without constant stuttering.. Hoping for some root methods and custom rooms to get some better performance out of it soon! Please and thank you!
Gotta love those black Friday deals! I too can't wait to see some root goodness!

So does SRS Root.exe using smartroot option....
I used framaroot and installed SuperSU and Boromir exploit to gain root access to my ellipsis.
Kingo worked well to root, and get SuperSU(Thanks to chainfire for this amazing free piece of software we all take for granted!) Can we get any developers interested in getting us recovery? Maybe get an official thread for this device? Here is all the information on the device http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=5276&c=verizon_ellipsis_7_quanta_qmv7a
Hopefully we will be installing custom roms and kernels soon. Build prop tweaks would be amazing for this device, plus a real kernel!

Think we are out of luck.. Man just a nice debloated deodexed 4.4 rom would be nice. But we need bootloader.. Custom recovery... Please someone... This generic company has probably made no effort to lock the bootloader!

It would be nice to have a custom rom on this. A 4.4 rom with the ability to move apps to the sd card to solve space issues would be so nice.

I don't suppose using Recovery Tools from the Play Store would let you install a custom recovery would it? I'm doubtful since the E7 doesn't have a native recovery mode to begin with...

Anyone know when?
I'm not sure when they are pushing the update. The guy at the Verizon store told me they were going to. I rooted my E7 and cleared a bunch of space myself.

I have got ahold of a developer that knows more about recovery building than I do. He is looking into it now with me so hopefully we can get some Roms and things going for this tablet.

Not another "when will we get root" thread........
You will get it, when you get it.
But then, you may never get it.........
Why do people take the OTA then wonder about root.
If it's that important, be patient.......
I agree. What's the rush to update only to be stuck? We live in an instant gratification society anymore. Wait to update. There is nothing of significance in the update that you need it right away.
Verizon is really trying to clamp down on tethering. Foxfire is broke in the update... The most Verizon app requests root privileges to track tethering on unlimited plans. Stay away from updates until those in the know give you the go ahead.

right so why wait? Why not Downgrade to MK2 then flash any system img capable of MK2 install safestrap then re-upgrade the right way? Look under the development section we have a 20+ page spread on how to do it properly. This will give you root and access to a butt load of new 4.4.2 ROMs. It will also give you root you'll just have to deal with this method for time being i doubt it will change anytime soon. It works fine if you havent upgraded yet put on the breaks and do not upgrade your bootloaders. All you really need to upgrade is your AP and CP with hlos. Then switching between 4.4 and 4.3 is cake. Right now I've got 4.4.2 Custom ROM on my stock slot and a 4.3 gDux 1.1 on 1st slot and an AOSP ROM on my 2nd slot. Ive got a variety literally goes 4.4.2 to 4.3 to 4.2.2 AOSP and I couldnt be happier in terms of what I can throw on an use with my phone.
Actually Firefox just updated and now works on 4.4.2

You'll probably never be able to install a custom rom.
Best you'll be able to get is modded TouchWiz, e.g. Hyperdrive: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2301724
Check your build version in Settings -> About Phone.
If the last 3 characters are M** (e.g. MK2), you can root/flash TouchWiz roms. If it's NC5, you can't do anything, not even root.
Alright. Hopefully it's still on android 4.2.2

The Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 was a new experience for me when it comes to modding the ROM. It turns out that the revision of the phone makes a large difference. It is very important that you read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2606501 thread started by decaturbob. Instructions that work for some versions of the S4 will brick others, so read that thread first. Then you will have a better understanding of your limits.
I picked up mine a few months back, so I have one of the most locked down versions. I can say that I've installed Hyperdrive, and I'm very happy with it. I do miss the CM ROM I had with my old phone (Razr), but that's not gonna happen soon, if at all, with this one.
Good luck!

If you got an mdk(4.2.2)on the way, count your blessings and whatever you do don't take any ota updates... Its hard to get one of these baby's anymore...luckily I read heavily about the s4 when I was looking to buy and knew before I even had it in hand not to update it...good luck and happy modding
If possible, Go back to Verizon and return s4!! Get LG G2 or HTC One M7 instead!!!
Belive me if it wasn't for the fact that foxfi works on kitkat I would have got another phone. But the s4 is a great phone and If I can root it that will be even better if not no biggy I just have to be able to WiFi tether.

We all root and use modded roms for various reasons. Some want to explore the newer ideas and try the latest cool roms at will. Others, including myself, want a good, stable rom with lots of custom options. After a few weeks of tweaking it, I just go back to using the phone. Both are fine approaches, it depends on what you want. The first option, with easily swapped roms, is not going to happen with the S4. The second, works just fine with the Hyperdrive mod. I agree that the S4 is a great phone, I did root it, I like Hyperdrive, and I use the WiFi tether routinely.
The advice is this: If you want to choose from a variety of roms, especially if you want an AOSP rom, you'll be needing to have an older S4 or another phone altogether. If you're content with the one or two custom rom mods available for the newer S4, such as Hyperdrive, you'll be fine.

Do you know if it's carrier dependent? I'm on straight talk and I'd love to be able to get the update, but I don't know if I'd be able to.
Sent from my ASUS PadFone X mini using XDA Free mobile app
From what he said they are doing it and then it would go through at&t so it sounds like both would be involved if you could can you revert back to at&t to get it and then go back to ST?

Do you think I could just put the AT&T SIM that came with the phone in, and revert to the default apn, and get the software update that way, or would it have to be an active AT&T SIM?
Sent from my ASUS PadFone X mini using XDA Free mobile app
YOU KNOW WHAT THAT SHOULD ABSOLUTELY WORK USING THAT SIM FROM AT&T AND WI-FI I'VE NEVER SEEN WHERE
THEY CHARGE MONEY AND AFTER YOUR DONE DOWNLOADING IT YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO INSTALL IT WITH NO PROBLEMS AND THEN JUST SIMPLY REVERT BACK TO STRAIGHT TALK

That's funny you say that. I have been searching day in and day out about if/when we would get lolli for this thing. Found this post so I was excited the next day figured why not try to search for an update and it said update available.. I got really stoked ..it downloaded it installed then rebooted .. I was like cool let me check.. Said Android 4.4.2.. Ahhhhhh.. So yeah I don't know what it was for . I searched forums and all and nothing.
according to AT&T...
Facebook API update
RAM improvements
Removes Famigo
Updates Amazon Kindle app
Id post the link, but i don't have the credibility.
I've been fighting with my phone just so i can get the update. When i rooted the thing, and froze some apps, apparently something changed in ASUSmirror, and its not letting the update through.
I'm stuck trying to get around the issue. i cant even find a way to make a backup with TWRP or clockwork mod. TWRP doesn't support the device, and ROM manager wont install it because it doesn't support it either. I'd love to try a few other ROMs on this thing until an official Lollipop ROM comes down the pipe, or a custom one comes out that lets me use the pad AND have LTE.
I will say that I've noticed higher ram usage, but better utilization with the update. That is based on my observation that I've gotten less random app closures while multitasking. Before if I was listening to Pandora and opened my browser or Facebook, it would close Pandora in the background.

It's something called "IntelAndroid-FBRL-07-24-2015" -- I think you can find it if you search the forum. Make sure you have ADB installed.
If you run it from Launcher.bat and choose option P4 with CWM from the first menu, it boots into Clockwork Mod. From there, you can install SuperSU from your /sdcard path (or some subfolder) and you're set. Just make sure it's at /SDCARD and not the /Removable/MicroSD path, so you may need to use the file explorer to get it there.
Lauren
BUT install a program called "Root Booster" ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ram.memory.booster.cpu.saver ) and pay for Stability Boost. You'll find your PadFone mini crashes a lot less after doing this and uninstalling some apps. Use Jumobile's System App Remover (ROOT) to uninstall some of the AT&T bloatware (Famigo is a good one to remove first).... it has a recycle bin so it can reverse if you remove something in error providing you don't REALLY mess it up.
