Much development? - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

I was just wondering if there was any recovery/rom development started for us yet? I exchanched a kindle fire for nook tab because of the more ram and storage, but may go back if we're not gonna get the development the fire has already. I've this device, but sure is a lot harder to customize than the fire.

There is no recovery/roms yet until eather b&n or devs of this Forum give a solution for locked Bootloader. Without that development of that kind is stuck .

You don't need much to customize this thing besides root really (or at least it helps a bunch).
This is what I managed to throw together today.

there is this too....

In terms of customizing - you can get a pretty customized/pure android tablet experience with root and a third party launcher (i use golauncher). The unlocked bootloader will be nice to allow for things like overclocking and hopefully enabling the Bluetooth chip but otherwise I'm very happy with the functionality as it stands now.

[Q] NT and Kindle Fire, How similar they are?

The reason I have made this thread is because I find the Nook Tablet and the Kindle Fire very similar, I have searched in tech forums and blogs the full specs of these devices and they have the same prpssessor and, screen resolutiond, mother moard, etc.
That made me wonder if is possible to make a port of Kindle Fire's CM7 to the Nook Tablet, and flash it using acclaim_update.zip method,
There is a method to unpack the .img files and we can repleace the needed files to boot the NT in CM7 without breaking the original recovery.
I'd personaly try this but I'm away from my computer for the next 2 weeks, I have experience doing this kind of stuff for my xperia x10 and nexus s and made a couple of custom roms for my personal use.
I will try to do it on a crappy netbook and I will let you know the news

It would be an interesting approach.

[Q] Android market; acclaim_update.zip

I used acclaim_update.zip, but I can't get android market to stop crashing? i have Amazon Market working.....no gapps...what I am i doing wrong?
Do you mean you used acclaim update to push your NT back to 1.4.0 from 1.4.1? Which rooting method did you use, because Indirect's Nook&Zergy, the sd card by Brianf21/Indirect's should include gapps as well. In general it sounds like it wasn't run over well, might be best to unroot and reroot the device.
Sorry, I'm not rooted. I unrooted because I couldn't see my books from Nook app, so I enabled USB bugging, and installed the Amazon market, and the rest of my .apk's. Its there a way to install Android market without root, because full root I wasn't able to see my books I purchased

I was trying to exploit acclaim_update.zip, but changing a few things around to see if I can get Android market without doing a full root.......Sorry for the confusion.......
Using the Nook&Zergy to root your stock device should have no hindrance with B&N content. I used all of their stuff until I put CM7 on my NT. Also, the market will not work on a stock/unrooted device.
can u direct me to what nook&zergy you used that allowed you to use the B&N book reading? because when i did it, i could not.

I finally gave in and roted my Nook Tablet to gain access to the Android Market. A developer on here, Albert Wertz (albertwertz) makes videos (and SD cards if needed) available that tell you exactly how-to.
I bought a Nook Tablet last weekend, and got fed up trying the various work-arounds to get into the Android Market. I was able to sideload a few apps that I found here and there, but after all that, it still wasn't the tablet I'd hoped for, especially for the price.
I watched Albert's videos SEVERAL times, flashed a 32 Gb SD card I already had, and it worked GREAT! I couldn't be happier about the results! I logged straight into teh Android MArket, and can still do the B&N store as well.
I shot Albert a few bucks in appreciation for his help. Please remember to do do the same!
okay im going to give it a try tonight, I'll let know how it goes

Okay I rooted, but the XDA development app, keeps crashing...Wtf! If it ain't something...smh
Your phone is void! If its not powered by Android.........
Let me guess, you're using the free version? You can use the paid version, the website, or get TapaTalk (which is free on GetJar).
Couldn't find the app on getjar.....do tippy have a link

[DISCUSSION] Dual Boot Linux

Okay, we've got our bootloader unlocked, we're rooted, CWM, and custom rooms; where's the dual booting linux? I know we have that vpn stuff, but what about turning this beast into a computer. We could even get some of this hacking in on the go with backtrack. I may be wrong, but this is all possible, right? I'm a bit of a noob in dual booting on a tablet, so don't flame if I'm way off or something, but I think it would be neat... Thoughts, ideas, etc.... tell me what you think.
Edit: Or do we need nvflash unlocked?
Edit2: Okay guys, now we know (or at least I do) that Ubuntu is in progress. You can check it out over at www.androidroot.mobi. Soo.. Lets make this the discussion thread (Info, Q's, discussions, debates, etc... whatever...). Enjoy and I'll try to update with new info (feel free to give your insight)
I am sure you'll get flamed for posting in the wrong section but I am eagerly awaiting someone to get dual boot running.
My no development skills at all guess is nvflash is the problem.
We'll let someone who knows correct me though.

Ubuntu is being worked on for the TFP, similar to what it was for the TF (by the same developer)
Next time, please post in the proper section.
Thanks, and sorry. Mods, please move to proper section.

I had to go back to uni, so my time is limited, still working on getting stuff packaged up, but time is something I don't have much of for the moment.

Anyone knows if there is already a public repository for the Ubuntu dualboot?
Would love to help out =]
Also is the same approach used as for the TF101 dualboot or is the partitioning different?
Keep up the great work so far guys!
I hope to see dual boot with Ubuntu one day as it'll save me the trouble of keeping my netbook for days when I need to do MATLAB and other things exclusive to PCS. Would love to see an implementation where android is still kept in internal memory and Ubuntu is kept in the microsd/sd (not sure how performance would be if this was the case though)

Yea I agree waiting for dual boot use in Uni classes so limited right now with android want to do some programming on atp

Bump.
Does anyone know if there is a public repository already for the TFP201? Maybe I can contribute =]
And do you guys know if someone else other than lilstevie is working on a dual boot solution?
Currently I'm a bit cautiousness about flashing due to the 'brick 2 option'

Is there a version of MATLAB that will run on an ARM architecture? I looked it up before I got my prime and came up empty. I would be very interested if you could share a link.

[Q] To Root or not to Root? that is the question?

Ok can you lot give me a few good reasons to root my transformer prime and install a new ROM. I've been looking at some of the ROMs and they all look kinda.... **** lol no offence. they just look to much like the prime unrooted but with a few changed to colour really :/
i rooted my SGS2 and installed the muiu ROM i think its called and thats great i llove it. it looks different and that's what i want
someone prove me wrong please
Do you want full control over your device? The ability to get rid of the asus crapware and run your own things? I too rooted my SGS2 after about a week of owning it and haven't regretted it.
With root you can install adblockers, backup tools (proper ones), overclocking
If you're technically minded and want to get the most out of your money then root, if you don't want to risk damaging your Aluminium piece of sexy then don't.

Rooting is definitely the way to go, doesnt affect your ability to get ota's and what not, if you want to unlock i say wait a lil bit longer to find out when or if ASUS is going to release nvflash to us, granted it definitely looks promising giving Gary Key's latest update.
That said if you want to unlock you can still get AOKP from jermaine just not from here, whether he is still supporting the rom is an entirely different question
hmmmmm ok i dont know i suppose i could just get root access and keep it as stock then. im going to have to find out how to root this now sigh lol research.. i'll look it in about 3 hours lol
I would highly suggest you root it since if any things happen you can just factory default the tablet and it'll be unrooted
So there's really nothing to loss rooting it
Just make sure after you root your device you backup the root so you don't loss it after you update the prime
lol you lost me after backing up my root. =/
i just tried to use sparkyroot but it doesnt seem to be working. im going to look at other methods.
dont think i can root it can i im currently on 9.4.2.21
Check the general thread, there is a way to downgrade and then root it without unlocking.

Google Now on ICS

You may have already seen this but if not, XDA member febcyv has managed to get google now working with ICS.
Link here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1749045
I have not tried this on my TF300 yet, but if anyone else has I would be eager to find out how you got on.
Good luck and enjoy
Just installed it, and everything wet smoothly. I have no idea what I am expecting now though, it appears to have just replaced the search bar. Nothing different seems to have happened so far.
Edit: I had to install the modified Velvet-theos0o.apk file in order to get it to work properly. Voice search isn't working but that seems to be a common issue.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using Tapatalk 2
if you search factual questions it should now bring up "knowledge cards" with your answer rather than a google search.
Also try holding home and dragging up, it may open "google now" which is supposed to act a bit like your PA and learn your routine
I'm also doing a bigger more widespread port of this over in the android development>apps and games section
We have both a flashable .zip and an .apk. It has a strong effort into getting voice to work. If you want check it out. Go ahead!

Is there any versions out for non-rooted devices? Don't feel too good rooting my new device, would lose the quarantee
Unlocking voids warranty, rooting doesn't.
It says that it requires a "A Rooted device running ICS AOSP Rom". I'm rooted but NOT unlocked and therefore NOT running a custom ROM.
This won't work for me. Right?

Im not 100% sure, but I would imagine that the stock ROM is close enough to AOSP for it to work.
I think it probably would work, but you may want to wait for someone else to confirm

I'm the head of one of the Google Now for ICS projects and you can probably install this normally. Just make sure not to delete your original "GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk" file. Just rename it and have it on hand to put back if anything goes wrong.
