Is it possible to change the IMEI of the phone? I have the korean version and I want to use it in UK
I don't think IMEI has anything to do with where you want to use the phone. It more likely has to do with what bands your device utilizes. Also, I don't think changing the IMEI is legal anyways and if so, it won't be something easy for you to find.

Interesting, in terms of using a korean phone, I just like the outside look it's a special edition, is it realistic to take it apart and replace the parts with that of a normal S6 Edge?
Depends which model you have
In terms of 2G/3G it should work in UK
4G definitely not gonna work as the band is different
Taking apart for s6 edge is not a easy job if you aren't a repairman
I guess first you need to see if the phone is unlocked, then if it has roaming capability in UK, then usually should work but no LTE

It's the S6 Edge Iron Man edition released in south korea. I am not sure if the band is different, is band hardware or firmware?
Someone told me I need something called Z3X Box or something.
Would it be possible to use my edition in the UK? Is changing the IMEI not possible for privacy reasons?
No
It's like, can you change the VIN for your car for privacy reason?
Obviously not
I know that one, it will work but no LTE, I guess it's G925F but no promise there, do some research on YouTube probably you can get the answer

It's not like with MTK CPU based phones where you can do it by software.
The only way possible is by replacing the whole mainboard and getting therefore a new IMEI.

Actually IMEI has nothing to do with bands. IMEI is basically like a license plate of a car. It's a certification number given to every phone with a cellular band. It allows to trace back the phone to where it was certified, where it was built and what model it is. It serves no other purpose than for identification.

actually its both, the bands is the main one, the IMEI might be blocked too, how hard is it just to switch out the insides?

Not trying to cheat AT&T
I have an unlocked, rooted Atrix 4g that has reached the end. The wifi is not working and from what I have found apparently there is a battery inside there that dies or needs to be reset... I don't know. BUT rather than just toss it I would like to dumb it down. I don't want to leave it even picking up 3g, dumb it down to a "mobile web" only and allow my sister to use it. It doesn't matter what ROM it has, or what it really behaves like when I'm done. It would be cool if everything (camera and such) worked but if it never ventures off of 2g or ATT's "mobile web" that is perfect. But even if I find a rom that will turn it into a pretty prepaid phone ATT will see the IMIE and assume it's using it's full potential. Is there a way to dumb it down and make the imie number show something else. I don't want to get tossed from the forums so I will say once again that I do NOT want to steal service, I want the phone to only be a 2g phone anyway! Any suggestions would be awesome!
No way.
I understand what you are saying, but I believe this is illegal.
Yeah, changing IMEI is illegal in most countries, including yours. The only option I can think of right now is to SIM unlock it if necessary (try calling AT&T support, they might provide the unlock code if the phone meets certain conditions, that's how I unlocked mine) and then use it with some other carrier that doesn't care about IMEIs (Verizon? Sprint? dunno, I'm not american).
Straight talk would work.

Yep, I have it unlocked already. I guess I will try att. I just hate to throw the thing away because it doesn't pick up WiFi. I had it sold to a good home when that issue popped up.

Can you even do that when it's locked? I'm just wondering about the remote possibility that all the NA versions are the same hardware but AT&T just says that theirs is quadband.

I asked a Bellevue Square Microsoft Store employee in Bellevue, Washington. He said the 920 is pentaband. I asked him if it would work on T-Mobile and he said "Theoretically." Obviously the phone is still locked...
To be honest with you, I don't believe him 100%. It may be pentaband capable, but locked to quadband.

Total guess here, but I seriously doubt that these 920's for different carriers are going to be limited at the hardware level. I imagine the most cost efficient method for making these things is using a single design, same chips all around. Then, you lock it down via software.
I am sooo tempted to get one of these, but I refuse to buy from AT&T if they're going to hold me hostage. If the unlock is withheld during the exclusivity period, maaybe I can see that... but if they won't do it after that, I would be seriously pissed. I am on Tmo now, and it makes more sense for me to get the 8x Global phone ATM.

I'm almost certain that all variants have the same hardware. I won't get the AT&T version no matter what since it has its logo branded on the top-left corner of the phone.

Obnoxious carrier branding is really unsightly. I seriously hope Telstra does not do this in my country.
Personally I'm pissed the AT&T one is locked because I want that glorious cyan matte finish.
Really seems like there is only one flavour of the 920 and it is pentaband.

It's more difficult for you guys in the US because TMobile has old frequencies that will still be detected by the phone (ie. 2G). It's easier here in Canada because Wind has no fallback frequencies outside of the AWS spectrum. Basically, if you go into the manual network selection screen and see Wind you know the phone supports AWS.

Doesn't WP8 show anywhere the connection speed like E for Edge or 3G?
Well I can confirm that it works with 3g speeds on t-mobile except it's shotty... my phone will go to E randomly and the only way to fix it is to go to settings for cellular and switch data speed options. Which is lame. The phone is defective anyway cause the headphone jack doesnt always work so it's going back.
Wish I didn't pay for next day saturday delivery. Annoying.

Maybe you're in an area where T-Mo is refarming their bands to include 1900 MHz? That could explain spotty 3G, even if the phone doesn't have the 1700 MHz band enabled.
We're you using a T-Mobile SIM or roaming or what?
Did you unlock to try on T-mobile US? I am with everyone here that I want to to stay with T-mobile's lower rate, but really want the 920.

Hello to all

Thanks in advance for any help!

Well have you tried different modems as well as the correct APN settings for those carriers?
I do not know how this "repair shop" gets their hand on the logic board to begin with.
I had been looking for a logic board, but NO ONE has it. Not even the supplier of Samsung repair parts. It is not for sale.
So, it sounds like they may be trying to trick you and charge you a big bill to "fix" it, when the solution is most likely as simple as flashing a different modem.

Yes Sir but let me try it again so if the APN is incorrect this matter on signal and calls? i mean with my skyrocket i never put the APN phone automatically loads (Tmo apn not simple mobile) and works better than the simple mobile itself

Hey guys and gals I was dabbling around and got curious and used the S4 Dialer Codes from that forum and they also (most of them) work on the Gear S, so maybe we can also try and tweak these little device's from the service menus like our phones, see my screenie for proof, I used *#0011# and also tried *#197328640# and it works too, I don't know a whole lot about the functions within these menus and I know that if you mess around in there you can really screw up your device so TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK OR DAMAGE YOUR DEVICE!..I just wanted to point this out since I didn't see any threads or topic about this yet and maybe a DEV can jump in to provide some guidance as to the functions within these service menus.

Ok just browsing through the menus and if you select [4] Reserved just look what's in there! and although this is the only setting that would not enable does this mean it is possible to enable it via software? Could LTE be built in awaiting another software enabling update like other sammy devices? that would be pretty slick! an LTE Smart Watch!
doesnt the t mobile version already have LTE? Thats how they are advertising it..
No, none of the Gear S has LTE. Don't confuse '(fake)4G' with LTE.
wow, shocked that a mobile company would engage in deceptive advertising! :cyclops:
actually, its a non issue, considering how little actual data use most will be using with a smart watch at this point..

From what I can see the only symbol that pops up on my t-mobile Gear S is 4G, but my question is why would LTE band selection be inactive within the service menus, none of the previous gear watches had LTE so why would it be in there? And its funny how selection 4 says reserved where the LTE selection is.

The LTE is likely showing because it has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chip in it. That chipset supports LTE as well as dual mode GSM/CDMA (e.g., the same watch would work on Verizon as well as AT&T), as well as quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900), but that doesn't mean the radios are actually in it.
That menu is very likely a holdover from the S400 operator menus in other devices. Manufacturers tend to be lazy when it comes to modding things like that.
Of course, until there is a teardown we don't really know what all is inside this watch. Also, the previous Gears didn't have the same service menus because they don't have chipsets that support independent cellular radios.

Hi everyone
I am in the UK and bought the Note 4 Global version, as in the UK my provider uses Band 20
I am on Tesco, which piggy-backs the O2 network
However, on inserting the sim I receive the No Network error.
Tesco give me the usual "we don't sell those handsets so we can't provide technical support blah blah" "It must be locked blah blah"
The sim is fine as it was in his iPhone 5 (and still is because this won't connect to Tesco)
The Mobile Networks setting has been changed to what was on the previous phone, but with no joy.
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks in advance
Edit for stupidity:
Android 7.0 NRD90M
MIUI ver 9.0.5.0
Have you tried any other sim card in the phone? You can get one of those cheapie PAYG sims (for example, EE) from Tesco or your corner shop and see whether it has the same problem (which might point to a hardware issue or something funny going on with your ROM). I am not sure why you would have had to change the mobile networks setting. That should not be necessary at all.

Ok, it definitely should work with EE, and so this is clearly not a Tesco mobile problem. Either the hardware is faulty or the ROM (particularly the modem drivers) is faulty. You might want to return the phone.

It looks like the same issue (on a different Xiaomi phone). The solution is probably the same - flashing the appropriate modem (firmware) files, or flashing a new complete ROM. I wasn't sure you wanted to go down that route, as it would give the vendor an escape route if something goes awry, or if the process doesn't solve the problem.

If the phone sees the signal and it does detect 4g ,than the phone is ok.
The problem is that 110db . That's practically dead zone. I would say your location is the problem. I know you said that Samsung has 2 bars but this is crappy phone .
Just to be sure, can you check in a a place with strong 4g signal?

It seems that you will have to go down that route, unless you return the phone. Whether it works or not will depend on whether it is a hardware problem or just a ROM/firmware problem.
By the way, there is a firmware repository here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=73534612&postcount=89
This requires you to have TWRP recovery.

These things are often a hit-and-miss affair, especially when buying from outside the EU. I bought mine (two) from eBay (UK and Ireland based sellers) - much easier to get refunds via PayPal (and more likely to get a proper Global ROM). But it is possible that your problem will be fixed by flashing the latest global stable ROM.
Update
Took it to the Tesco Phone Shop this morning and they couldn't get any of their settings to work. Consistently No Network. Wouldn't even connect to the Tesco guy's Vodafone sim.
Tried a Virgin sim and it wouldn't connect either
Guessing something wrong with the global rom now?

Possibly - but there is also a possibility that it is a hardware problem. That will only become clear after successfully flashing a complete ROM (global or otherwise). Whether the ROM is global or China should not have any effect on connecting to a phone network (especially EE).
Which version of MIUI are you on? Try updating of there is an update available and see if that helps.
