I'm not sure if your conditions are as bad as these posts have reported.. BUT my first N9 had the screen freeze, pixelated display; and became progressively worse, and in addition to the system freezing, my tablet would emit a loud screech sound when the event happened. Tablet was ~4-5 months used. I sent the 1st tablet(purchased November 2014) to htc and they replaced the mainboard (so they claim), 2-3 months later the same problem began happening again. I'm still within 1 year warranty, and HTC sent me a replacement this time, manufactured November 2014... hopefully this was the initial batch of hardware with problems..

This happened to mine after 4-5 months as well and I just wanted it replaced, had a hell of a time with HTC, but I have a new one now. So far so good, but there is a growing post of users on Google + all experiencing this issue. HTC/Google needs to openly communicate if this is a known hardware fault with the first batch. As far as I'm concerned it should be illegal for any company not to. What happens if it doesn't fail until just after the warranty period. They are going to say we're SOL for something they knew was a ticking time bomb? I've only seen one company get a situation like this right and that was Microsoft with the red ring of death on the original Xbox 360. Extended the warranty to 3 years with all shipping included. You called an 800 number, a new 360 arrived and the old one went back in the box.

I call HTC. The first time was a waste of time (factory reset, boot into safe mode). The third time they asked me to send it for repair. I bought it on ebay last December. It is October batch.

Best Buy was nice enough to exchange mine if I agreed to purchase the 2 year premium replacement plan from them, which I honestly wouldn't own this tablet without at this point. I can drop and smash it and they will replace it no questions asked until end of Jan 2017

HTC send me the new one but do not has warranty. I worry that after 5 or 6 month of use the problem happens again. Maybe i will sell the tablet. I lost the confidence of the HTC Nexus 9

Hardware Locked? Which shipment dates have this problem?

Hello, So I have to exchange my Vibrant for a problem not related to this, but I'm reading all these people complaining about hardware locked 3-button issue on their phone. I don't know how many people are just doing it wrong, but I would like some feedback. Does this problem only concern a certain shipment batch? If so what dates?
My current vibrant goes into recovery and download mode using 3-buttons with no problem. I only have to use my usb cable attached to computer to get into download mode, and use 3 buttons.
Which shipment dates are having this problem or is it just every vibrant being released now the same? I just want to make sure I don't get a new phone with this problem.
Thanks
the hardware lock seems to be pretty random. many people are saying they are having troubles with newer vibrants but other people say they have vibrants with box-dates from sept. that have no hardware lock problems at all.
personally, my vibrant is an older one from 7/16/10. it's having hardware lock problems.
Mine was 8/10 and had the issue with recovery only...luckily, I bricked it so a new one is on its way via warrantee.
I just replaced my vibrant because of water damage.
My first one was really slow connecting to the market, wouldn't work properly with my car Bluetooth, and was impossible to get to boot into recovery.
My new one works perfect.
So there are definitely differences between the phones.

same here, i couldnt do anything to fix the status of my phone. i had to get in touch with tmobile to get a new one sent out. it would be nice if i could find a solution to my problem before it arrives tho. not having a cellphone for a week is going to be harsh and cause many problems for me. i guess thats what i get for ****ing with my phone :-O
both mine and the wifey has box date 8/21.. no problem on accessing DL mode or recovery mode..

good to know but can you provide box dates lol
I've read people with phones made after 09/01/2010 with recovery mode problems and I've read those with phones made before 09/01/2010 that recovery mode works fine via the three buttons which completely contradicts my personal experience.
But since you're asking, FWIW, I've tested five of them and here are the results along with date codes.
07/15/2010 - 3 Button recovery/download worked
08/15/2010 - 3 Button recovery/download did not work
08/16/2010 - 3 Button recovery/download did not work
09/01/2010 - 3 Button recovery/download worked
09/08/2010 - 3 Button recovery/download worked
I don't think there is any rhyme or reason regarding dates. I think it's ****ty Samsung quality control. Speaking of QC, two of the five Vibrants had wobbly/rattling volume buttons and one had a broken USB port.
08/13/2010 here no recovery, it just bricked so i'm getting a new one... anyone here had problem with having to pay for shipping? they were telling me i had 2 options, pay $10 for 5 day shipping or $20 for 2 day shipping... i'm like **** THAT i haven't even had this phone for a month yet... u guys should be paying for that **** for selling me a defective phone... and with that they waived the shipping fee... i gotta ask though, how do u guys get the exact date of the phone? sure my battery shows 2010.08.13 but the only date i could find on my phone was 10.08

Date should be right on the box sticker. The date on my phone itself says "10.09" but on the box it says 09/08/2010. Out of curiousity, how did it "just brick"?
My box has a shipping date that is 7/02/2010. So my vibrant was I'm guessing part of the first batch. I have no problems here. Recovery and Download Mode work fine.
do late september dates have the problem?
07/01 - No problems
07/24 - No problems
Dates don't mean anything this been going on since July. I had 2 with August 28 date that worked and one at store with Sept date and didn't work.... like sabooher said on page 1 he had Sept that worked and August that didn't. That's opposite of my results
Starting to wonder if they are even locked, sounds more like a defect. Even T-Mobile considers this a defect and will exchange

i called samsung for warranty because i bought mine third party, and they emailed me a shipping label. I hope they can fix it. The maximum time they quoted was 17 days. I think im going to mail it in and hopefully they can fix it. But, How can i find out the date of my phone and has anybody else exchanged through manufactures warranty?
Product Symptoms : Technical Inquiry/Internal Menu/Software Reflash - FOC/No fee this is what was emailed to me. I really hope they dont send me another hardware locked phone.

RMA'd my Prime almost a month ago, will I ever see it again?

I got my Prime for Christmas and I absolutely love it. I didn't have any problems with the screen or wifi (I don't know about the GPS, I don't plan on ever using it so I never tested it). However, I noticed that the battery was behaving weirdly. I didn't really think much of it until a couple of weeks later when it started claiming it was docked even though it wasn't (I don't even own the dock). I decided to look up the battery behavior when docked and it's exactly how my battery had been behaving the entire time. I called up Asus and they have me do a factory reset. It didn't fix the problem, but I knew the ICS update was coming soon so I decided to wait to RMA it. After the ICS update it was still having the same problem so I called them up and sent it in. That was almost a month ago. They received my tablet a little over three weeks ago and the day they got it the status said it was being repaired. Ever since then it's been waiting ("Waiting-[WB5] Wait for Repair\Test\Aging" to be exact). I've called them several times and finally managed to get it escalated but the status is still the same. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm starting to get really annoyed because the 10-14 days they originally said it would take has long since passed and they won't give me any sort of estimate of how much longer it'll be.
Don't sweat it...its going to come back. I'd call customer service just to check ln it and remind them that you need it back working properly asap.
prime in for repairs
I'm awaiting getting my own prime this Friday and I have had issues previously with certain other devices which had to be sent back to the manufacturer (htc and samsung) the HTC phone i sent in took three weeks for repair but they had promised a similar 10-14 day window and as that time came and went i was forced to call them for status updates. once it had made it to 19 days i called back and specifically asked for one of their tier three service men (similar to a manager) and i told him they had more than enough time to have completed the repairs and had gone 50% longer than i was told would take.
when i gave him the option to either fix it or send it back within 48 hours so i could seek a third party for repairs and have the company be reported to the better business bureau, it was amazing how fast they were able to replace the touch-screen and processor unless they just cloned the ESN into a brand new device and shipped it out to me express delivery.
i'm praying that i dont end up with one of these little guys that's going to have some issues, but if so, please let it be the GPS because i'm never going to be using that anyway. keep in mind the power of the better business bureau, it's a great bargaining tool for getting your promises fulfilled.
"Don't sweat it" boy that easy for some people to say when it's not them waiting for something you have over $500.00 invested in. I too are waiting for mine to return due to it dropping Wi-Fi connections and the screen not responding when touched. I love Asus products but a large company like Asus needs to protect their name and satisfy their customers at all reasonable cost. If there are long delays they should replace the item. They can always sell the return as a re manufactured item, save a customer and get free advertising when the customer tells 10 other people what great company Asus is.
Good news, I just checked the status and it's now ready for shipping! It looks like they're sending me a new one as the serial number changed. Now let's see how long it takes to get back to me.
But yeah, this experience makes me quite reluctant to buy another Asus product of recommend Asus products to anyone. Sure I absolutely love my prime, it's an amazing piece of hardware, but a repair shouldn't take a month.

That is ridiculous. No one should have to push the manufacturer to get it done faster. I have dealt with plenty of repair places that did exactly what they said they would do and were very open about why I wouldn't be getting the product in a timely manner if their where any delays.

[Q] Glitched screen

The issue is about screen getting glitched output. I don't think this is a software issue. There is some hardware issue because I tried flashing 5.0, 5.0.2, 5.1.1 still problem persists. Randomly at any time the glitched screen like seen in the pic is popped up in between from any app or just home screen. First i thought some app may be causing this but its not the issue. I deleted all the apps still this problem stays.

I've been spreading word in xda about the same issues. If you search the Q/A forum, you'd find too many people having this issue. This is due to a faulty GPU when the device heats up excessively. Recurrent issue in a Nvidia chip. If you bought it recently within 30 days on eBay, I'd suggest you return your device and claim your money back. Else I'm afraid you are screwed since neither HTC nor Google offer warranty if purchased through unofficial sources in India.

Now that what i feared. Let me see if they will take this back. Anyway thanks for the info that was really helpful
Unfortunately your Nexus 9 is toast. This happened to my first one and it got so bad it would happen during boot and I couldn't get any further. HTC was next to unless. Delt with them for 3 weeks trying to get an exchange. They are clueless. They wanted to try flashing stock image over and over. I'm like dude, I'm a Nexus owner. Don't you know your customer base? Anyways, best buy agreed to exchange it for a new one if I bought their premium protection plan, which I did gladly. But it is a hardware failure. There's no fixing it.
I just had my day one nexus replaced for the same issue last week. Had been getting worse for months. I called warranty service, told them about the screen corruption/noise/lockup issue needing a mainboard replacement. sent my tablet back and they overnited me a replacement that appears brand new (mine was mint condition as well). Still has lightbleed and so-so buttons but works great and I've put it through its paces. Only thing I had to tell them was the serial # but I was the original amazon purchaser.
Is it a newer build date than your original?
I had an experience similar to techiedj's. Got my old N9 replaced by Google a few weeks ago. Replacement looked brand new, but is actually an older built with slightly crappier buttons. Curious how long this one will last now...
These are the symptoms that I saw: At some point the screen started to flicker for a few seconds, then froze, and slowly turned black. After a few second I could turn on the display again. The area on the back next to the camera had become hot, but apps that read the sensor values did not really show high temperature (50 degrees or so). A good way to trigger it was to open Chrome and open multiple pages in a short time (opening different links in new tabs). Surprisingly, seemingly GPU intense games were less affected by this than Chrome. Factory reset did not help, even when I skipped the initial login/restore apps step.
Hopefully they aren't all doomed to this fait at some point. I have best buys replacement plan now, so this this can die early Jan 2017 and I'll get whatever the new Nexus is then.
Not really. HT4AJ I think it was, HT4AY on this one.

Breaking NEWS: LG insider confirms faulty phones!

I ended up talking to a phone tester that works for LG here in San Diego. She's from South Korea, she deals directly with corporate in Seoul and translates for them. I told her my V10 is a glitchy freakhouse and that it was all her fault.
She said they know that a certain percentage of the phones are defective with overheating, GPS failure and other issues. She didnt tell me what percentage though so not sure how wide reaching this is. I realize that missing fact makes this a little less valuable info but I thought it was interesting enough to share.
No product is perfect. I've dodge most of the issues I see here in the forum, only heating issue I had was trying the set up a email with Exchange server.
Like you said a number would be interesting. Did she indicate it was a hardware or software issue?

She didnt and wouldnt know and I'll tell you why. She explained their process. The testers just sit in an office and play with the phones, they dont use them in their daily lives. Then they send all issues to LG R&D who are supposed to diagnose and fix the issues.
Maybe they have other people doing more in-depth desting, I dont know but she is a contract employee of LG.

I'm not sure what your intention is here but if we dont bring things like this to light then we're not doing anything to help all the people who are getting bad GPS, dead pixels, etc. that is screwing up their daily lives and causing a ton of hassle. I'm not an activist but I'm also not going to completely ignore it when this phone got me all excited, cost me $700 and then turned out to screw up my week and waste a bunch of my time.

Yup, I agree. I'm going to return the one I have today or tomorrow. I want this phone to work so bad. I might try a new one, one more time.
Yea, not sure if its true but I have read in many forums how phones don't work properly out of the box and most were fixed by doing a reset on the phone. The first V10 I had was great except for WiFi. I get over 100 Mbps at home and every device gets the same speed. However, the V10 was reaching 10 Mbps...after the reset it worked great and speed was up. I did end up exchanging for a new one (just to make sure I had a good phone, why I got to do a reset to fix a new phone) and the new V10 is great, out of the box. I get GPS lock quick, great WiFi and no lag.

Since english is not my primary language I will do an extraordinary effort to do this...I've passed for 4 V10's already. I was waiting by 9.00am October the 30th to get this wonderful device LG announced that hit every single check mark that I always wanted in a smartphone. My first impressions should've sufficed cause the first one they brought was scratched out of the box, yes, the metal bands were scratched, so obviously I asked for another and that one was ok at least on he outside.
After less than a month I started to notice some weird behavior when displaying some content with the brightness maxed to 100%...dead pixels everywhere( I made a post). I exchanged that unit to and to make the story short I am with my 4th V10(counting the scratched one) and this one has "only" one dead pixel(or an array cause I don't think we can spot one pixel on this devices with our bare eyes) with no other issues so am keeping it fighting my OCD every time I think about it. I don't want to call T-Mo again and put another exchange request cause I know it will come with dead pixels and/or other more problematic issues.
LG quality control is a joke, at this price point dead pixels policy should be 0.

SHAME ON YOU LG ???
I only see people complaining about phones bought from USA operators/stores, none bought on Amazon or other countries, I wonder
I bought my v10 on launch from vzw. No issues since day 1. Everything is spot on including the fingerprint sensor.

I suspect most of the "complaints" are propaganda from the competition
For complaints. Try a different brand if your not happy with LG. Make both you and LG happy, and move on.
I have had my V10 since December (from T-Mobile). Initially no problems to report, but the image retention issue has become progressively worse (as I type this, the image of this site is being temporarily "burned in"), and the GPS has only recently been failing to connect for navigation. my father also got a V10 the same day, but does not report these issues. User activity may be leading to a faster declining lifespan of phone, but both phones have had a drastic increase in overheating since receiving the Marshmallow update, which may be playing a role in the even greater descent into decomposition.
I've been a big fan of LG phones for years, but the V10 may not be able to keep up with the demand (I'm 19, so like most millennials, I use my phone constantly-possibly why I have this issue)
So my LG V10 has been perfect from day one. Now lets assume that every post on this thread is factual.
Then all we can do is say sorry it was you that got the bad phone, if you add all the posts here it's still less the half a percent bad phones, that's a pretty good number.

This happened to my first Nexus 9 and I had it replaced. Nexus 9's that have been successful repaired for this issue have had a new motherboard installed by HTC. Mine happened after only 4 months of use, but my new N9 has been about 9-10 months without issue. In my opinion this is a hardware defect that should be recalled outside of warranty by HTC. If the same thing has happened to many N9's, which it has, necessitating a replacement of the motherboard, this is not warranty work. This is a manufacturing error on behalf of HTC. Is it our fault if the ticking time bomb goes off after 12 months? Any I swear HTC's tech service is told to play dumb. If you call and ask them about the issue, they've never heard of it. Yeah, like **** you never heard of it. I love my N9, but I will never give HTC my money again.
+GibsonSGJ Thanks. Bought direct from Google, and yes its out-of-warranty. Nevertheless, will have a go at Google on Monday
So many bad things about Nexus 9, N9 just don't lived up to expectations. This is why I didn't buy the Pixel C when it was released.
Anyway, I do have a temporary solution for fixing the issue.
Disclaimer and Advice: Take your own responsibility. Think twice before you follow my method.
Steps:
1. Prepare a Mattress.
2. Play with your Nexus 9 and wait until the notorious issue to happen again.
3. When that annoying things show itself, grab your N9 and smash the Back of N9 toward the Mattress over and over again.
4. Keep Repeating the cycle until N9 reboot system itself. And stop smashing when you see your beautiful wallpaper.
5. N9 should be working normally for a few days. For my own experience, it works normally for at least 3 days and 7 days top.
Remember, it's just a Temporary solution. The notorious issue would happen again later. And by that time, do it again. Ah, If the rumor is true, I will keep using my Nexus 5 rather than buy an HTC Nexus phone.

No, it is not out-of-warranty, it is two years warranty. Talked to Google - they will give me a free refurbished replacement device

The Nexus 9 always had a one year warranty. I'm unable to find anything online regarding the warranty being extended to two years. Is this something Google is doing for Nexus 9's that were purchased from the play store? I got mine from Best Buy and I'm pretty sure if I call HTC they are going to tell me it has a one year warranty.
Cannot find the warranty document, but who am I to complain about getting two years warranty. You may be right that they are doing this for direct Google customers. The replacement N9 feels like new (maybe it is)?
The replacement refurbished N9 works very well, but it does get hot (>40C).

They all get hot around the processor with most games and chrome. However, I can watch downloaded MKV's or MP4's on MX or I can run SNES 9X EX+ all day with my bluetooth SNES30 gamepad, and the thing barely breaks a sweat!
