I tried, but it doesn't work correctly. I'm using the latest (5.1) version. Both the "Root Device (All Methods)" and "Root Device (SmartRoot)" buttons claim to root the phone, but any rootchecker will tell you otherwise, and if you try the "UnRoot Device" button on SRS Root it verifies that it is not rooted. Here's my complete output.

Framaroot doesn't work either. Others may but I've got my doubts due to the phone having Android 5.1. I think they may have to find a new exploit to get it rooted but I'm of the impression that all the hardware is suitable.

That's awfully strange. It was verified to work on the Z812. Have you considered King Root? It doesn't install super user, but it installs King Roots version of super user and works the same.

Also, if some admin or mod wants to change the thread name from XTE -> ZTE that'd be awesome.

I've only tried the three mentioned in this thread, Framaroot, SRS Root and Kingo Root. I'm willing to give anything else a shot but I'm not sure where to start. I'm great with computers but new to rooting phones.
Have you tried KingoRoot? Completely different than King Root. I used it to root my Chinese budget tablet. I'm in the same boat with you, I'm a developer, and very tech savvy, and the only reason it's hard to do much with this phone is because it's a cheaper device that most developers don't want to put time into. Not that it's not a good phone, because it works great for my girlfriend.

I can't promise this one will work, I found it on XDA.
1. Download Super-Root.apk for ZTE Maven from this link : http://root.ngemobi.com/android-root-master.html
2. Connect your device to your PC using the USB cable. (Skip this, and 2 and 3 if you downloaded using your phone)
3. Copy the Super-Root.apk over to the root of your SD card.
4. Once it’s been copied, disconnect your device from your PC.
5. Head to Menu>>Settings>>Security on your device and enable the Unknown sources option.
6. Open the File Manager app on your device and install the app you copied earlier to your device.
7. Once the app’s been installed, launch it from your App Drawer.
8. Select Install SuperSU from the first dropdown menu.
9. Select exploit, tap on it in the app.
10. The app should begin rooting your device, shouldn’t take too long to finish.
11. Reboot your device once it’s been rooted.
12. You’re all done! Excellent! You’ve successfully rooted your Android device using the Super-Root.apk app and you should now be able to see the SuperSU app in your App Drawer!

Thanks for posting this. I just ordered this phone. Should get it in a couple of days. Been searching for a way to root it. Will be trying this & SRS Root. Hopefully one of these methods will work.
Have you seen a custom recovery that will work for this device? Would like to be able to make a nandroid of the stock ROM.

No problem, I hope it helps you all out. I currently don't work much on the Mavern, as the Asus ZenFone 2E and LG Volt are my primaries, so I haven't seen any recoveries for the Mavern yet, but I'm keeping my eye open on TWRP to release a recovery.

Received the ZTE Maven today. Just to clarify it's the AT&T GoPhone version of the ZTE Z812 (Build# Z812V1.0.0B15), Android version 5.1. Tried three methods to root and all failed.
First try: SRSRoot
Used the All Methods option. The application indicated "Rooting Complete" but after restarting the device, found it was not rooted. Installed the SuperSU apk but it said the binaries are not installed and could not be installed.
Second try: Super-root root-master.apk suggested by cotylee1991
Installed apk on device. Ran the app. Took several minutes to run the attempt but finally said it failed.
Third try: Super-root PC Root application
Installed the program on my computer, connected the device and attempted to root. Again, several minutes later program states rooting failed.
Not going to try any other methods at this point. I'll wait until I see postings of actual successful methods and a custom recovery. Hope they show up soon.
I have this phone and I've also had no luck. I hope someone resolves this soon.

acer toolkit wont work ever, since its method is only meant for non intel cpu based devices.

kingo root works. it roots my acer iconia one 7 (B1 - 740). Try to install generic adb in your pc then run the latest kingo root app.
interesting. i have the genereic adb drivers install which super one click installed automatically. do you maybe have a link to the ones you used? though i think they either work or dont and wont make a difference, right?
i used kingo 1.2.3 and it didnt work. i will redownload and try again in case little things were changed that didnt impact the version number.
or the 730 is different enough from the 740 that it wont work with the one but does with the other. dammit! but your post makes me hope, thanks.

No problem, I was hopeless as well like you when I wasn't able to find out how to root my acer iconia one 7 (B1 - 740) (because maybe it's a limited product only so only few peoples knows about it.) I think the difference between b1-730 and b1-740 is the internal memory, which is 16 gb for b1-740 and 8gb for b1-730. Luckily, thanks GOD i was able to root my device using kingo root. I need to root it because I want to use Link2SD App which is currently successfully installed in my device. My problem now is I'm looking for a custom rom which I can't find any CWM that supports my device.
if the difference is only the internal memory, it has to work!
which adb drivers did you use exactly?

Anyway, just would like to ask, is your device is detectable by your pc or not?:good:
it appeared as device in windows explorer, so it was detectable in that way. but kingo did not detect it. then i tried super one click, which said it would install generic adb drivers for it. and after that kingo could detect it.

Try to set the android device to debugging mode. If kingo root can detect your device, we are 90% successful.

one more thing, did you already installed the adb installer (http://dottech.org/21534/how-to-ins...s-computer-for-use-with-your-android-phone/)?
i have usb debugging enabled of course. i think kingo brings its own copy of adb or i have it already installed. kingo successfulle rooted other phones.
kingo root calls the tab "vespa", thats probably somehow the name of the driver? windows explorer recognizes the tab correctly as b1-730hd.
i just ran kingo again with a new outcome: failed because of operationtimeout.
interesting. i'll run it again.

Q&A for Root Nextbook Ares 8, TWRP Recovery, Disable encryption
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for Root Nextbook Ares 8, TWRP Recovery, Disable encryption. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.
Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
In your 2nd post, I downloaded the file, but I didn't see the "remove_encryption.zip" file within it. I think the 2nd post is downloading the same file as the first post?

You have to flash boot.img, you do have a Nextbook 8 Ares? What stock files? Your device is stock, format data, cache, flash boot.img simple as that.
I just checked some of your posts, you been messing with your tablet, my method is to root stock tablet, unmodified tablet.
Your tablet was modified by yourself, so you need to undo what you already did.

I need the stock system.img data.img cache.img. I formatted /data and it bricked my tablet. My tab was stock and unrooted. Yes its a nextbook ares 8 with Intel Atom.

Its all good. I'll get them from Nextbook. Thanks anyway.
---------- Post added at 04:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:19 PM ----------
If you posted the stock imgs in the OP no one would brick anything as we could just manually flash the imgs to the tablets when we mess up. I had to run my first phone like this. Just using adb and fastboot to run restores when I messed with too much. You should also add that formatting /data may lead to a brick.
I tried a factory reset, it didn't work so I let it(twrp) format data(not /system) . My tab will not boot. Just bootloops at the bootani.
I may not be a dev bro but I know what Im doing. Please don't hesitate to throw testing stuff at me.

Formatting data leads to disabling encryption, not flashing the boot.img I provided, leads to tablet bootlooping so you can continue to bootloop forever, or flash the boot.img your choice.

Ok well thanx for rooting it and not answering any other questions. Why you wouldn't post them is beyond me or at the least link to them. For those who wiped system. No need to use their flashtool if you have the imgs. I have them anyway so its whatever.
You should probably fix the recovery or warn that its not even close to fully functional and only really works for flashing. Wipes don't work. Formatting anything bricks it. Im sure there is more too. It's your baby not mine. Im just trying to help you help people. I'll fix my tab fine myself. No thanx to you.
By the way I did flash the boot.img before I formatted. I dunno if that wasn't clear. And the tab still said encrypted. Also I wanted to do more than just flash the boot again. I wanted to reformat by flashing the imgs fresh. Im not exactly sure why you're being snotty but it's cool. I was trying to figure out how to push su binary thru shell but my system wasnt modified. The OP said to leave system alone. I did. I had issues anyway. I asked for more than a fix for BL. Hopefully at the least people will realize they can track down this model on nextbook.com and get the stock imgs and fix bricked tabs very easy. Also return to stock at will. Or rooted.
Sounds good have a nice day.

Snot.
By the way, flashing the boot img again did not unbrick my tablet. But what do you care, you just post half assed stuff and leave the noobs with bricked tabs.
So again I would suggest you get a hold of the stock img files and post instructions on how to flash them in the OP since you are basically responsible for over 10 bricked tabs at this point. Yeah sure I know it's all at our own risk, but you're not giving us all the tools we need, and that in my opinion means you need to take the entire post down or give us what we need to fix bricks you failed to warn us about.
Noobie Question
Hiya Vamp, I'm having a bit of a noobie problem here. In a nut-shell I can't get my fastboot tool to detect the tablet. However adb can detect it. After some quick research I found out I needed to write a udev rules file, which I did; I ran a lsusb command to get the hex id for the device. I also tried using sudo with no effect. My OS is Kubuntu 14.04 64bit, I have the 32bit libraries installed. I've never rooted a device before besides using "poot" on my old phone and I don’t even know if that really counts.
here is a quick copy of my /etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules file:
Code:
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="04f2", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="8087", MODE="0666"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="04e8", MODE="0666"
Here is the output from adb devices:
Code:
List of devices attached
YFGV0415004049 device
The output from either sudo fastboot devices or fastboot devices is nothing, the terminal gives no errors or other kind of output; it simply displays a new prompt.
And this is the output from the lsusb command:
Code:
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 04f2:b008 Chicony Electronics Co., Ltd USB 2.0 Camera
Bus 001 Device 013: ID 8087:0a5f Intel Corp.
Invoking the adb reboot bootloader command will reboot the device and it says "fastboot cmd waiting..." yet I still get the same output from the above commands, with or without using sudo. Anyway I'm at my wits end on this and hopefully you can point me in the right direction.
Are you using the fastboot binary I provided?

No I think I'm using the one I installed from the ppa repositories. How do I get rid of it and use yours? Can I just overwrite the existing one in my sdk/platform-tools folder with yours?
To use mine simply open terminal in folder where you extracted my files, then sudo ./fastboot devices

Awesome! You are a gentleman and a scholar good sir Yours is detecting it, and now I have it rooted and that silly encryption gone! Super easy when you use the right binary lol. Thanks for your help boss, I'm going to have allot of fun with this tablet thanks to you. How do you make your own custom tools? Do you code them in Java like most android apps? Or is it written in C? I'm still somewhat new to programming but my snake game should be bad ass on this tablet. Anyway thanks Vamp! :highfive:
As a side question: Does/did your tablet open apps and do other random things without any input when its plugged into a computer via usb cable? Mine just randomly went to the brightness setting for the display without me touching it, kinda strange, it was doing the same thing before root so I don’t think it's a problem with any data installed during the root process.
No, but there is a reported memory leak with lollipop 5, so some of us are using xposed with memory patch.
Most of my tools are compiled using cm12 source.

I just want to say for the record that I followed your directions perfectly and rooted my tablet and installed the recovery without a problem. Now I'm running an unencrypted stock rooted lollipop ROM with the latest TWRP recovery and honestly I couldn't ask for more! (Maybe CM12.1 if i'm being greedy). Thank you so much! I don't know what's wrong with everyone else. If anyone needs me to, I can upload a twrp backup or something. I'm more than willing to help in any way that I can. I basically consider myself a noob, and following your instructions was not a problem, I actually even used windows and it wasn't a problem at all.

The xposed framework installer says its incompatible with android api 21 and the x86 architecture, is it safe to install it anyway?
You have to install x86 version.

Running "adb devices" and it doesn't show my device connected. Checked all cables and USB ports and everything connected tightly. Any help greatly appreciated.
ok Guys I'm good at rooting T mobile phones using odin but this is my FIRST Verizon phone, so I need a little assistance here since I have read about 50 different ways to root it and 50 ways that don't work
My os is Android 5.0.1
Baseband I454VRUGOC1
Kernel 3.4.0
[email protected]#1
build LRX22C.I545VRUGOC1
Hardware is I545.06
I'm not trying to get a new rom but I would liek TWPR recovery so I can make a complete backup just in case, and I need to remove eth battery eating bloatware
whats eth best way to make a permanent rook on this thing, I'm running Straight talk if that info is needed also
I need step by step designed for an old man LOL
King root from a pc. Then search for supersume or Uninstall kinguser and install supersu via the terminal method. The latter is the cleaner way and paves the way for stang5litre edition rom.
You'll need flash fire. No twrp on TouchWiz lolliopop.
---------- Post added at 10:13 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:12 PM ----------
BTW after obtaining root, install titanium backup and freeze or Uninstall sdm. That's the over the air updater that breaks root.
Kingroot doens' work on this one. I tried and it failed.
With king root you might to try a few times. I tried 5 or 6 times before it worked for me. Keep trying.

http://www.kingroot.net/ is the official kingroot site. the installer and program for desktop was all in Chinese the last time i checked. remember to turn on USB debugging when you do it. it's basically plug in let it detect your phone, allow computer to do debugging and click a button for it to complete root.
from another thread one person had a some problems rooting with kingroot, if the following happens, you should uninstall kingroot and restart comp before trying again as some people mentioned that just turning the program off doesn't completely reset it

Hi, I'm having issues with step 5. There isn't any green button that comes up. The first time I run the kingroot after reinstalling it, it shows just a blue button after thinking for several seconds.
(I can't figure out how to attach an image to my post, and apperently links aren't allowed either...) i.imgur.com/8BilQtT.png
After clicking the blue button, it goes to this screen: i.imgur.com/wScf2TT.png
There's a checkmark there, but my phone is not rooted. It did install KrHelper4Pc to my phone though.
Subsequent runs of kingroot (without reinstalling) show this after thinking for several seconds: i.imgur.com/HVmqOLm.png
I've tried this several times and the exact same thing happens each time.

Me, being the silly person I am decided to take a look at what those words could mean using limited knowledge of Chinese Characters and google trans here are the trans that google spat out of each phrase
Pic 1
无root方案, 晢未适配
No root program, Zhe not adaptation
0人
Zero people
已提交适配造求
It was submitted seeking adaptation made
提交
Submit
So I'm guessing the first pic, after detecting your phone, stated that there was it could not find a way to root
and the blue button only was you sending a submission request to developers to find a way to root it
Pic2
(check) 已收 到适配 请求
Adaptation request has been received
confirmation for the request you sent to developers
Pic 3
无root方案 已收 到适配 请求
No root adaptation program has received a request
its restating the first part and that you already sent a request

I used Kingroot, not Kingoroot
Topic http://www.xda-developers.com/root/ leads to topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/one-click-root-tool-android-2-x-5-0-
There I followed their own link to their website; downloaded Kingroot and run it. Everything went smoothly, but when restarted the phone, it lead to boot loop. Now I am completely stuck with it

Try these infos: http://guidebelajar.blogspot.com.tr/2015/11/guide-to-flash-bricked-bootloop-lg-g4-stylus.html
No success.
- At first the firmware link will lead to same site with broken download links. (I found the firmware from another source)
- Then the Flash Tool 2014 crashes. Tried several times with several settings; like run as administrator etc..

I will test R&D test tool next
Gmbh... R&D test tool uses same components than Flash Tool 2014 and crashes same way too
ADB is unable to see my HAM2L03. It just keep waiting for devices or list of devices bring up nothing. The command is "adb devices." Where can I find drivers for my phone? I looked at this, but it doesn't look safe at all. Their website doesn't have the drivers either. What should I do?
I have tried:
-Restart the daemon
-Changing USB ports [USB2.0 & USB 3.0]
-Restarting the phone
-Restarting the computer
Stock 5.1
Windows 10

You don't need the app but the drivers
That's why you need to install it. Along with adb

Thanks, that's the information I needed. And thank you for your TWRP how to video. It's been a while since I have messed around with my HAM2 and that video helped refresh my memory.

Actually, do I have to manually update myself to B322? I am currently at MT2-L03C00B309 and I have no available updates for my phone. And I know CM requires you to be on B3222 to even flash it.
Also, which nightly or snapshot are you using on your ham and how is it? Is it your daily driver?

Yes update to b322. It's actually easy download from Huawei site. Unzip and place unzipped folder on root of sd card and then turn off the phone and press all 3 buttons at once then let go over power or something

You have the choice of CM, carbon or PAC. I can't choose for you.. I think CM is updated fastest. PAC is coolest and Carbon has all Devs but I don't like carbon for silly lil bug reasons.

Thanks for the fast reply.
No OTA? Do you have a Consumer Cellular or what?
Also, just for anyone else reading this, sometimes trying a different cable will help your phone to be identified. (You did good updating drivers, trying a different port, etc. I just wanted to get this idea out there, too.)

Actually, it's straight from Huawei, themselves, well Amazon that is. But yea, no OTA. Weird, right? I am going to do the B322 update tonight and then try CM.
When I installed HiSuite v2.3.55.1, fastboot devices shows nothing while adb devices outputs:
C:\adb>adb devices
List of devices attached
68a0f6ad32d4 device
Are there other drivers that I am missing? Yes, my bootloader is unlocked.

I think usually fastboot should work when adb works. One thing i can think of is maybe try run the DOS prompt with admin rights? Btw, when you under fastboot, what the phone is showing in the screen? Just want to make sure you are in the correct mode.

I guess there is a fastboot mode now. I had these phones in the closet for a while. The provider had a bad singal before we went to sprint. I am digging the new b322 version of an Android. I'm tempted to replace the Note 4 for the HAM2 but I love the S-Pen. The HAM2 are all unlocked and rooted and I have 3 of them.
