My Nexus 9 keeps randomly rebooting itself and I don't know why. I haven't done anything to it such as rooting, but it randomly reboots and I don't know why. I just got this tablet yesterday, so I want to figure out if this is something that is fixable or if it is something I should contact Google about.
Did your N9 come loaded with 5.1.1? If not, upgrade to that first. It's a big improvement over the 5.0.2 version.

First I had nothing but boot loops for an hour, then by some miracle, ICS finished installing. However, now i keep getting "refresh failed", and the tablet will lock up and restart itself. Should I drain the battery and let it die? What should I do to try and fix this?
mine is locking up and restarting too but only once every 30 minutes on average.... lol this is lovely.
This is driving me insane. My prime was perfect before this update. Right now it won't even boot, just bout boot loops. Already tried factory wipe too.

did you update via the OTA file some posted or did you download the update from asus directly through the tablet?
Directly through the tab, and I had a serial number too.

Getting the same thing.
Well someone from Asus development just sent me a pm asking for my serial number so they can look into it. I didn't contract them first. Hopefully something can be done. I love this tablet, but I have no use for a $500 paper weight

for now
just to help,
what you could do for now is downgrade by following the first part of this thread:

I hope this will at least get it back to a working state.
let us know what happens
Earlier this week I brought you news that the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update had finally started rolling out for Dell’s Android budget slates, the Dell Venue 7 and Venue 8.
A few days later, a lot of users have updated to the new build and at the same time the first bug reports have started pouring in.
Some owners don’t report anything being wrong at all, but others have several complaints. Like user Stych, who started the topic on the official Dell Community Forums (2) in the first place.
He reports random screen freezes, SD card not registering, apps not working, lower tolerance to the internal heat build, jerkiness when scrolling on the web and Facebook.
Other Venue tablet owners report not being able to mount the microSD card since the update. Particular to the Venue 8 is the fact that the battery will not charge past 60%, even if no issues were detected before the update.
However, out of all the complaints the most alarming problem seems to be that some tablets end up being bricked after the Android 4.4 KitKat update.
“Prior to update, my Venue never had a problem. Since the update, it has crashed multiple times, lost data, freezes, shuts down, goes into screen loops and shuts down just after displaying an error message com.android.systemui. Seriously, what went wrong,” says user conan1130.
Some users have tried performing a factory reset and reloaded everything, but the problems keep persisting. Dell representatives have yet to say something on the matter, but before they do, you might want to put off updating your Dell Venue 7 or 8 to Android 4.4.2 KitKat.
I updated a few hours ago. I guess only time will tell.
I had to send my Venue 8 back to Dell. My Venue was constantly freezing while playing games or just reading USA Today. Hopefully they can fix it as I really like the tablet.
I got my Venue back from Dell. The repair list states that the motherboard and screen has been replaced. So far, after playing with the Venue for about 2 hours, the screen hasn't frozen up. Hopefully, this is fixed and I shouldn't have any more issues.

So, you're able to use Kitkat with no problems whatsoever?

Dell is a Hardware company not a software one

Dell has been failure when it comes to software of any kind and that is the reason they flopped miserably in PHONE space, What I fail to understand about these giants that they dont seem to have read concept of CORE COMPETENCIES, Dell's core competence is HARDWARE and they should outsource software integration to a worthwhile partner. Build a pretty good hardware set partner with CYANOGENMOD to build ROM for them. Kitkat 4.4.2 has been horrible even for NEXUS users and that is why 4.4.3 and then 4.4.4 were released in quick succession by GOOGLE but companies like HTC, LG, SAMSUNG, SONY etc. did a very thorough testing and removed the BUGS as they are known to CUSTOMISE ANDROID heavily. Dell doesn't customise ANDROID too much hence they missed out correcting the bugs inherent in 4.4.2 and most surprisingly they dont seem to be bothered to release 4.4.4 quickly which has stabilised in its raw form pretty well. Michael Dell is master of past.

I personally did not experience a problem with battery drain. My tab updated out of the box and doing what I normally do such as controlling what apps update when and making sure none of them are waking it from sleep unnecessarily mine hardly drains at ALL when screen and wifi is off. I wake up with pretty much all the battery I went to sleep with. Dunno if it has to do with certain apps or the fact that it updated on a factory fresh out of box device or what but all has been well here.
same here..i'm getting same error like freezing screen, some application not responding and keypad sometimes not coming..
i'm using dell venue 7 3740 with android 4.4.4 kitkat.
is there's any person know how to fix this error..tnx

DELL company need to fix this problem..its so terrible!!!
I don't know.
My nexus 9 (stock, locked) is suddenly acting very strangely. Freezes, restarts!! Reset doesn't seem to fix it.
What really surprised me was that during the freezes the CPU and RAM usage were NOT high. So the freezes are probably not caused by them.
I decided to do some searching in the logs to find out the cause of the freezes. All the freezes coincided with an iowait which means the CPU is waiting for the NAND storage to respond.
Going thru Google's nexus 9 support forum, I found that most of the failed updates (bricks) were due to the updater script finding unexpected data on system partition halfway thru the update which, on a stock system, means the filesystem has been corrupted!!!
This could be due to bad encryption, drivers, or hardware. In any case, its not looking good.
I can't be surprised. My Nexus 9 is d*** near unusable whenever it's downloading files.
Check my post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-9/help/androbench-reboost-nexus9-t3060146
You might have the same problem. I sent it for repair in the end, and the problem is fixed.
What the f... Now my n9 has freezed totally couple of times and ended to kind of boot loop. After restarting boot several times it started to optimize apps and started finally. What's wrong? It started after latest update.

Same here. No idea!!
Its the nexus 7 fiasco all over again -_-
But after running in safe mode for a couple of days it is smooth as butter. Does this suggest that the culprit is some rogue 3rd party app?
Hi all, I have a weird issue that nobody else seems to be having (based on a forum post search). I recently bought 2 XT1528 Moto E's to set up for use with T-Mobile. They both came out of the box with 5.0.2 installed, and I was able to change the network settings to GSM and set the APN successfully to get it to use T-Mobile's network.
I then upgraded one of the phones to the 5.1 OTA update, but I started experiencing freezes on the 5.1 phone. This would occur intermittently, but essentially, the touchscreen would become unresponsive during use. If I pressed the power button once to lock the screen and once again to unlock it, the touchscreen would work again. It doesn't seem to be related to the phone lagging/becoming overburdened, because the background processes would continue to function even when the touchscreen is unresponsive (Youtube videos would continue to play smoothly, apps would continue to download and update, etc.). This would sometimes occur several times in several minutes (touchscreen becomes unresponsive after ~5 seconds of use), and sometimes it wouldn't occur for several hours.
Going back to the 5.0.2 device, this doesn't happen at all. I can't tell if this is a software or hardware issue, so I was wondering if anyone else had experience with this. If it's a software issue, is there a way to revert back to 5.0.2? It's also entirely possible that it's coincidental that the phone with the faulty hardware was the one that I upgraded to 5.1 (I don't recall if the 5.1 phone exhibited this behavior when it was on 5.0.2).
Has anyone else experienced this or something similar? I'm now a little scared to upgrade the other phone to 5.1 as well, in case this is a software issue. Thanks!
I have not heard of this issue occurring with this phone so perhaps yours has a defect. The 5.1 update released like a month or so ago and this issue hasn't been brought up before now. Any who..you will want to get a replacement at some point.

Thanks for the feedback. I definitely am getting a replacement for the 5.1 phone (if it is a software issue, I need another 5.0.2 phone anyway). I ended up taking the leap and upgrading the working phone to 5.1, and no issues so far, so it definitely looks like a hardware defect at this point. I'll keep an eye on the newly upgraded phone and see if it exhibits these issues. Will report back in a few days.
I have also experience freeze ups with the touch screen, brand new phone latest software with 5.1
Performing a factory reset (from android) seems to fix this on a device that was upgraded to 5.1
Mine happens on the last little bit near the bezel on the right side.
I factory reset 2x.

Is this confirmed as a widespread issue or a limited problem? I have an XT1528 on a Verizon MVNO and have avoided upgrading to avoid the problem.
TIA,
CheapDad

This hasn't occurred for mine yet, so maybe it just happens to random devices with 5.1.

Hello guys,
i have a few questions about my honor 8x
im still on EMUI 8.2.0 (JSN-L21 8.8.0.136) my phone is a long time ready to update on EMUI 9 (JSN-L21 9.0.1.162) but i wasnt sure because i heard and read som negative comments about the stability.
One question is... can i do a system backup without rooting my phone in case i want to downgrade again on the exact version?
The reason why i want to update now is that my phone sometimes closes apps while i use them?! Im in a random game and sometimes the game restarts or close by itself.
did someone have similar problems?
