I've recently bought Orient H920 phone and accidentally ruined my recovery partition. Does anybody have stock ROM dump or suitable recovery image?
This phone is also known as Butterfly H920 or Tianhe H920. Another unpopular name for it is MX58TAir. Probably this phone is also Star X920, but I doubght. I found to suitable/flashable ROMs, one is MX58TAir.TD.HD720P.130628.CN, everything works but no support for dual sim. Another is H920.130422.EN, probably stock ROM, however display driver doesn't work. Changing UBOOT file doesn't help.
Mlais MX58 Air / Tianhe H920 / Butterfly H920
After continious research I'm convinced that Mlais MX58 Air and Tianhe H920 are same phones. I could finally flash Mlais MX58 Air ROM from (needrom com/mobile/mlais-mx58--3)here. Everything works smoothly and perfectly with only one problem. Seems like radio is not working. WiFi is present, but phone doesn't even see inserted SIMs. ROM looks like original that I have ruined . (4pda ru/forum/dl/post/3037297/mt6589_rooter.zip) This is working rooter for this ROM. Maybe somebody could help fixing radio issue.
I found that problem was not with radio but with NVRAM error. Seems like i've wiped NVRAM partition and lost my IMEIs. Also newer ROMs do not include NVRAM partition, which could be flashed and then fixed to desired IMEI.
Problem Solved.
Tianhe H920 and Mlais MX58 Air are definetely same phones. Flash one of the Mlais MX58 ROMs form needrom.com. Either YN/ZN should work for you. If flasher returns 8038 error check the logs, find NOT MATCH values, and change to proper ones in scatter file. If you completely bricked your phone first of all flash H920 ROM with preloader and then Mlais MX58 Air without preloader.
Confirmed, same, I installed the H920+ ROM yesterday, but you can forget this ROM, it is repartitioning your storage for programs to 1 GB. Go with the Mlais ROMs, they habe 2 GB partitions for programs.
By the way, I have issues with the add-on directories, can't install them, no matter what I try. I had to disable everything with predictive input, spell checking to get rid of every word is underlined with red issue because none of the words is recognized as words at all.

As I mentioned earlier either ZX/YN version should work for you. These versions have different display drivers. You can get ROMs from needrom. Be careful with the proper version of your phone, if you flash wrong ROM, you may completely brick your phone. I suggest comparing models via detailed tech. specs. Try it, let us know, gl hf.

Hi devel-su
Finally i have repaired the mobile with H920.130422.EN. After I flash the rom. I enter in hard reset mode, in choose the 2 chineses text, "Test Manual" then choose the first one. As the display show me some graphics I touch the screen , curiously i have could see the line described by my finger. I finish all display test. Reboot the mobile and surprise, the mobile works fine.
Sorry for my english.
Best regards
Hello everyone!
There's an official port of MIUIv5 for our P780 which can be found here.
It needs the Chinese base and not the International one, which means you need to have a Chinese stock ROM before flashing MIUI (flashing over the international stock rom ended in a bootloop for me).
I installed it a week ago and so far it's working flawlessly with a minor issue with the CSipSimple application (opening the Settings dialog causes FC). Didn't find any other bugs, running smooth on the P780 4GB version.

What I've done to run MIUI on the Lenovo P780 (4GB):
I. Backup
Since my phone came pre-rooted I didn't have to do it on my own. There's a good guide for rooting here. VibeROM can't be rooted via framaroot, so you'll have to find another way if you're running it and don't have root.
Download Mobileuncle Tools and backup your IMEI. I suggest keeping it somewhere safe in case of trouble.
Download MtK Droid Tools and backup your whole current ROM (takes a while) so you can flash it back with SmartPhone Flashtool later on if you decide.
II. Flash Chinese stock ROM
Download the Chinese S135 base stock rom along with the drivers and the flash tool from here and flash the S135 following the instructions provided.
Let the phone boot at least once. Copy the MIUI zip on the phone.
III. Flash MIUI
Reboot into recovery (shutdown the phone, then hold Power + Volume UP + Volume DOWN until you see the TEAMWIN logo). Perform a factory reset (Wipe Data + Cache) and Wipe Dalvik Cache.
Select Install and choose the MIUI zip archive, wait for it to flash.
Reboot phone and enjoy MIUI
IV. Some screenshots:
You can see them here.
Finally, I'd like to thank the authors of the threads and articles linked in this post.
Flashed everything works fine, but Second Sim is detected but not working, tried many permutations still the same.
Any info will b very useful, originally forms ROW firmware, help.. Urgent, need dual sim functionality very much
Sent from my iPad
Hi there drkrack,
Have you tried removing SIM1 and only leaving SIM2 in the phone? Is that working?
Since English is not my native language I can't understand what do you mean with "originally forms ROW firmware", can you explain?
The phone was with the ROW firmware when you flashed MIUI?
As far as I know MIUI is based on the chinese firmware so you'll have to flash that and if second sim is not working for you, you might have to flash only the modem from the ROW rom.
You can try replacing your modem driver with another one without reflashing the whole phone.
Check your current modem: Settings->All Settings->About phone-> Baseband version.
Mine's P780.V16, 2013/07/03 17:08 and both SIMs are working fine. You can try with some other versions though.
Backup your IMEIs with Mobileuncle Tools. This is very important because this information could be lost after replacing the modem driver!
Install ES File Explorer or Total Commander and give it root access.
Go to the /system/etc/firmware folder, you'll find a file named modem.img which is the current modem firmware.
Copy it over to the SD card just in case and replace it with another modem.
Download a new modem driver from [1] (sorry, can't post external links yet). I'm running V19 and both SIM cards are working just fine, but your mileage may vary.
After you move the file there be sure that the permissions are 644 (rw- r-- r--) (Owner: read+write, Group: read, Others: read).
Reboot the phone and hopefully you'll have both SIMs working.
Hope this helps,
good luck!

Thanks for the reply it was a typo.. I meant originally from ROW firmware, flashed Chinese rom s123 and then tried MIUI v5,
All SIM Combinations I've tried, not detecting sim 2 at all.
Same problem with SLX ROM too,
Have a backup of IMEIs
Will try this modem driver img replacing and will let you know

Is there gonna be new Miui above 4.4.25?
I've no idea, but hoping for it. There's already Android 4.4 for our P780 (which runs very smooth btw), but so far nothing from the MIUI team. Will keep you updated if I find something...
i goofed it up
Help me please anyone. I have never tried to fix a ROM to this kind of device before. I've always used HTC till now and I've goofed the install so bad that I can't reflash my back up. The recovery can't read the data or emmc partitions or internal storage. I don't know how to fix it. I can boot recovery but I can't flash anything or go back to my old ROM I was using 8 gb ROW 124 stock rooted TWRP. I can still get the system partition to mount. Any ideas how to fix it?
Yeah, read the other topics in this forum, good people have written fine guides for using MTK Smartphone flash tool to restore their phones. A rule of thumb is always keep your backups somewhere safe, e.g. PC hard disk or external storage card because when flashing the internal memory is at risk of breaking. Post to the relevant topic and good luck.

Dear stympy, I had finally flashed my p780 row using life rom and finally flashing MIUI using TWRP. Everything works fine except that the internal storage is now only 1 GB, it is so tight to squeeze anything in. Any workaround? Thanks beforehand.

Hi. What MIUI did you flashed? What version? Do you have any sdcard?
Usually MIUI makes your sdcard internal memory.

I dont exactly remember which version it was, all I know it was MIUI 5, for redmi note if I had remembered correctly.
I have inserted a 16gb sd card. It is true that it was detected as phone memory. When I installed much apps to test if it has any effect when the internal storage runs out, the gallery and the camera started to acting up, at that time, the internal storage only have 99 mb.
Plus the mic is no longer working, when I make calls, the receiver hears only buzz. When I make a record, nothing recorded.
I love the UI already, but these problems bother me for days already. I hate to reflash stock rom back.

Hi. Flash final stock firmware from Lenovo, S228 ROW. Install TWRP. After all that install latest MIUI, MIUI MINOVO.
I think is one of the best firmware here, made for our phones.
Unfortunately free system and data space it is a problem for this phone, because of the limited hardware.
You have those problems because you installed one KitKat firmware over Jellybean base firmware. This two are not compatible.
Good luck.

hi stympy, after the last attempt to revive my phone, finally I was able to boot up after using the 20 seconds trick, flashed the ROM that you suggested me to, finished flashing. The phone was booting up allright. suddenly after the lockscreen appears, it was died again. I have tried the 20 seconds trick repeatedly to revive the phone again, but all to no avail, I guess this is a hardware failure then?
what part(s) that would be damaged? any ideas?
i will take this p780 to a service center, I'd hate to be tricked by the service center. thanks before Sir Stympy

Hi. If you pressed 20 secconds on the red button, means that you hard resetted your phone. That means that could be a preloader problem. Try to reflash your stock firmware, so all could be new.
To answers to your question, usually the motherboard is the problem.
But first try to reflash your stock firmware and after flash see if you have to go to service store.
Good luck.

This might help someone having these no service/ no sim card no GPS fix issues with the galaxy SGSIII i9300, that might have to do with efs folder change and IMEI corruption.
Okay so i solved these no service issues and ill share my experience so maybe someone will find it helpful.
So the issue has to do with the famous efs folder conundrum, though tbh im not a developer so i cant say exactly what was the issue or even be a 100% sure it was the efs folder.
So I got me a used malfunctioning i9300 which i then repaired at a lab and proceeded to install a new TW based ROM, my first mistake was not backing up efs folder and creating a nandroid, but i havnt realized that yet. After flashing, I noticed that i have no GPS, but i didnt know if the GPS was working with original firmware because i neglected to check that or back it up, so i decided to put a pin in it for the time being and went on to check out some ROMs.
At first, I flashed couple of JB tw based roms, all was well (except for the gps), then i started to check out some KK roms, those didnt play well with my device, I got no service in every single rom i tried, You name it ive tried it, none fixed the service issue. Moreover i also tried a few JB AOSP based ROMs, among them the 4.3 JB PAC-man ROM, those had the same no service/no sim issues. Meanwhile whenever i un-root and flash with odin back to stock or restore a nandroid i made while on 4.3 foxhound ROM (with service working and a supposedly good copy of the efs folder) service is restored. I would also mention that I had more backups of the efs from the working “foxhound” i made with different tools and when i restored these folders when on a ROM with no service it didnt fix the issue.
Here are the solutions ive encountered and tried that didnt work:
-restoring efs with efs pro, samsung tool, efs backup -restore cmd tool.
-flashing latest firmware and flashing back to KK
-flashing all kinds of modems (those pre efs folder change (XXEMG4) and those after)
-flashing latest TWRP/CWM recovery
-flashing kernels
-trying to edit “nv_data.bin” with hex editor
-some more ways in trying to manipulate the efs folder.
-using samsung service codes on stock, which i found regarding this issue, except from the *#06# code, for imei, pretty much none worked for me.
Its important to mention that when on stock firmware or a JB TW based ROM i would see my baseband version in settings and when I tried the *#06# code for checking my imei it gave me a serial number with many digits that I assumed was indeed my correct IMEI number, and when i was on KK ROMs or non TW JB ROMs i would get the same popup with no numbers and in settings i would see “unknown baseband” .
To add to that, whenever i rooted and installed a KK ROM or a JB non TW ROM and tried to restore efs with efs professional i would get a message the device is not perm rooted (but thats neither here nor there).
This research took me about 5-6 days and the end of which i was ready to give up on having a KK rom or a non TW rom for that matter, NOTHING seemed to fix the problem. I just had some fight in me for one more hopeless attempt. I read somewhere that a flashing of cm 10.1 and then going to settings -> more and there change some network stuff from this to that would help -

Got to Network settings. You need to change Roaming to automatic and CDMA settings to RUIM/SIM (I *think* that is the name of it, I'm actually on TW temporarily as I'm troubleshooting some SDcard issues of my own)
Reboot and you should be back in business. Touchwiz doesn't have a way of changing of those settings which is why ODIN/stock doesn't fix it"
I said what the heck thats simple enough. I flashed CM 10.1.3 for i9300 and went into the settings but the options i read about werent the same as the settings i saw in my case,
so i did move one settings around in the settings-> more section, cant remember what it was and im on a different ROM by now,
it was nothing i knew about anyway (but you should give it a go and have a look, there are few options to choose from so you can eliminate your way to what makes sense).
I then went on to recovery to flash carbon rom 4.4 and to my enormous surprise i had service and connection and to my astonishment i also got back the GPS as a bonus ! yay ! I bet you forgot about that too by now…
This ends on a weird note though, though everything is at working order now and the IMEI number i get is the same as the one i get when on stock rom,
it does not match the number on the back of the phone under the battery. well mehh.. as long is its working.
Hope this helps someone.
You didnt mention that exact step. Changing "something from this to that" doesn't really count as being helpful.
Thanks for the post anyways.

Youre right, i couldnt find the thread that had the suggestion to install the 10.1 cm but my point was it didnt even apply to my situation because the options in "Setting -> more" werent compatible with what was suggested in the thread so i had to improvise and I just changed some setting i cant remember in "Settings -> More" but I realise that it would be more helpfull to say what i changed there exactly, but im not on cm 10.1 anymore and cant see what in there now.. the good news is that there werent many options to change there.
But i did went out and looked for the original comment that made me try this an it says -

so in my case i didnt see these exact same options so i changed what seemed to me the most related to the issue at hand.
I dont think i had to touch the roaming, again i dont have CM 10.1 installed so i dont recall exactly what were my options.
is it a solution mostly for Qualcomm chipset based I9300 ? someone can say ? European providers use different frequencies I guess hence different chipsets and parameters.

mine is the international version but as i mentioned it didnt work like described but the end result was the same. I f you have the LTE version Im not sure which option youre going to get in CM 10.1 settings -> more , but if youre having trouble with service and GPS and stuff like that i do suggest you try flashing CM 10.1 (compatible with LTE - not sure how it goes with CM and LTE compatibility) and check if you got the same options to make the changes to, if not, try and improvise based on what makes even a little sense, thats what i did.
It might be that the flashing of CM 10.1 itself is what fixes the problem, so if you change nothing it might help still, anyway this is pretty simple and quick to do so better start here than starting with other messier solutions.

Thank you, I was suspecting that you have a similar version than me. Well, in desperate cases anything can be tested (But some have told me not to mess with US versions as there is a risk of burning something )
Anyway the last version I could not flash , the CM 10.1 it was ejected with a file error soon despite 3 downlowd.
I will try with another more compatible version with Cyanogen.
Have a nice day

I had a similar experience only I also tried flashing CM 10.1 and it did not work. Although I have another imei, I have all my services running on the Stock 4.3. Now the only problem is that if I change to any other rom, does not connect to the wifi network.
I found something like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=839367&page=4
But neither worked. Yesterday I tried to repartition the phone and almost killed. I spent two weeks looking for a solution, and tried them all, but did not work, I think I will draw on the last and the only thing I think work ... The box.
The octopus box (or similar).
KK roms are beautiful ... but no matter what, I have no wifi in another rom than the stock 4.3 lol.
Thank you for your contribution! as you say: I hope you serve someone else.

yeah thats some BS those signal and issues on the i9300.. they really did a number on that one.
sorry my thing didnt help, i too tried everything and got nothing.
Maybe try flashing CM 10.1.3 and changing those options in settings-> more, Might be that just flashing CM 10.1 wont do it, I did change something ther but cant remember what it was, i wrote in my post what someone else had ther in the options but i had different ones but I still changed one option there ( what i thought might be connected to the issue ).
anyway dude i feel you its crying shame whole thing, and so many are posting about these issues all the time, im kinda hating on samsung cause they always seem to mess up like that.
Hope you solve this somehow..
I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300, i flashed on it a ROM (CyanogenMod 12.1 Lollipop 5.1.1) everything was working fine but the last few days my phone could open the Mobile Data but there's no signal bars like: H, H+, E ... and the internet dosen't work on it. i think that the problem is on the ROM (i think that is not stable) but everything was working correctly when i first install it. I've verified that there's no problem with the SIM in general beacause i put it in another phone and it worked nicely. So please can anybody help me to solve that and thank you of all my heart.

It happened to my phone yesterday and I got it back.
You have a corrupted EFS. Two ways of bringing it back.
1. If you had taken a backup of your system, restore and you will see the signal.
2. Restore your bricked device by loading the orginal system 4.3 from sammobile.com
Google for detailed instruction, you have youtube videos and many in the forum have commented how to unbrick.

I resored it to factory reset and nothing changed i don't know why this happened and i can't fix the bricked EFS folder
Boot to recovery and look for errors.

Only choice is to restore to 4.3 from Sammobile. You can register as a free member and downmoad..takes a lot of time. But after you get it, flash that file using Odin. After you restart you will see the signal.
Then you have to begin the process all over again.
Root the phone, install TWRP, take backup to your sd card. Then take a stable ROM.

Install stock Rom. Maybe you are lucky. Also there is a tool for Qualcomm devices to program the chip directly find it if custom ROM doesn't work. There is thread here somewhere
if you use the factory image (qfil), you might get the splitscreen issue. to avoid this you can simply overwrite the bootloader (emmc_appsboot.mbn) before flashing in the extracted folder the flashtool created. just extract it from s20 stockrom, it's in the firmware-update folder. i suggest to use flashone insted of qpst.
i don't know if it will fix imei but this is a total factory reset of the phone.
if you made a backup of efs in twrp before loosing imei, try restoring it first!
i always keep an efs backup on my pc.

Loosing IMEI is very serious trouble. If this solutions don't work and you don't have backup I think you have nothing else to do. Backup is always good even if it's old. I suggest you do one now in case things get worse
Try this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-max-2/how-to/guide-hard-brick-fix-qualcomm-hs-usb-t3492949
If it won't work, try to flash modem and repair IMEI with Xposed. The IMEI number is printed on the sticker that's on the back of the box.
Yeah Valy has good idea, install xposed then download id changer module which will let you set the imei
Were you able to resolve this?
