Trying to root z2 tablet. Any help? Thanks - Xperia Z2 Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I have a Xperia z2 tablet on lollipop 5.0.2. Firmware 23.1.A.1.28
Cannot unlock bootloader as tablet is set for a certain UK Mobile network being O2.
Ideally all I want is root to remove bloatware and use xposed. But I want to keep lollipop. Which I'm guessing I can't do? As I can't flash a custom recovery for prerooted stock roms. As cannot unlock bootloader. Is this correct?
Thanks

What you need to do is install a rootable STOCK FTF first.
To do so, you can use Flashtool, which as an inprogram function that lets you download and flash a stock firmware.
http://www.flashtool.net/downloads.php
Havent tinkered my Z2 Tab for a long time, so my information could be somewhat inaccurate. But doing a fast search, i find out that:
α) You need Easy Root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53448680#post53448680
β) You have to be on 4.4.2, probably the chrome://mega/content/secure.html#!xZAAyYoD!EFFk9hRoYgPXITY2_d5QtiyJMgHMbLMK9fDbSzgW8Gg (17.1.A.0.402 Generic Germany)
Looks like the buildin Flashtool miniapp of finding firmware for your device, wont get you a firmware that old. You could try it (its called Xperifirm in the options) but it probably is a waste of time.

Thanks for the info. I believe I can use kingroot to root lollipop. But it's abit suspect in the data it takes from the device. Plus I don't know if that will give me access to \system? If I downgrade to a rootable ftf and root it when I then ota back to lollipop that will then remove root. Also As I won't be able to flash a custom pre rooted rom of lollipop because I can't unlock bootloader to install a custom recovery. I this correct?

regarding update .136

Hi guys,
Just realized there is a new update. I am on rooted .290 model C6802,
Here are my few questions:
1. Do i need to update it from Sony Pc Companion ? As on rooted fw there is no notification for any updates.
2. Do i get to keep root ?
3. Will I still have an unlocked bootloader?
4. Will I still have a stock kernel ?
5. How do i update it to a clean stock rom will every thing 'untouched' ? Wanna check a few things and then root later.
6. Any improvement in this fw ?
7. how do i keep track of fw update as my ultra doesnt deliver me any notification ?
1. You have to update it through PC Companion or SUS..
2. No doubt your root will be lost..
3. To keep the root you've to first update then unlock the Bootloader of your device..which will void your warranty unless you take a TA backup and then unlock..
4. To root on your lock Bootloader you've to wait for a while..
Revert back if you need anymore info..
Hit Thanks if I helped you..

1. I've not see anyone with an ota update, I think they have all been PCC or flashing a FTF
2. The FTF kills root, not sure about PCC. Root is easy to get back with a unlocked bootloader http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2630781
3. Wont touch the BL state
4. Yes
5. Um... just flash the FTF or via PCC - make a nandroid backup beforehand of cause
6. There is a thread about this in grneral
7. Plug in the ultra to a PC, some of the updates have come as OTA, but will normally fail on a rooted device
Thank you for the reply
The update doesnt work from the pc companion on rooted devices.

That leaves two causes, unroot and flash via PCC or flash the FTF from flashtool. Plenty of ways to get root back if you have an unlocked bootloader now
FTFs are here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2453921
For now I am trying to decrypt the file I downloaded from pcc. Hope I can make a ftf then.
I tried the depository but cant find one for C6802.

Lol! But C6833 is an LTE variant. I think it will drain battery. I guess c6802 should work better on its dedicated stock fw.
Anyways u knw better.
btw to unroot you need a locked bootloader. To avoid bootloops a stock kernel is required rt ? I am on fw. 290 but cant find the stock kernel anywhere.

Flashed wrong boot, bricked

Hello!
After I unlocked bootloader of Xperia Z2 tablet, I accidentally flashed wrong boot and now I see only orange charging light. Tablet reacts to reboot with long press of switch button and reacts to swotch+volup combo, that switches it to flashmode for a short period(few secs) and then reboots. Seems that I cant reach fastboot mode, and use flashmode long enough to use flashtool. What options do I have?

Thank you very much for you timely response and for making the Stock FTF available.
I was able to root the z2 Tablet months ago and then a few days used XperiFirm and Flashtool to update to what I believed was the new Lollipop only to find out I had updated to 4.4.4. I didn't realize though that root would be disabled. I've been looking for an "easy" way to root again i.e. I don't want to downgrade to 4.4.2 unless I'm sure I have the correct FTF (hence my request) for the US Verizon LTE FTF.les I need the original stock FTF for emergency's sake.
Nonetheless, I will most likely wait to for Lollipop FTF to become available and then hopefully a root exploit will become available. However, correct if I am wrong it seems all current LOLLIPOP ROOT methods involve downgrading to 4.4.2 to root and building towards Lollipop again?
Thanks again.

Yes. At moment only way to root with locked bootloader is downgrade to 4.4.2, root and then update with prerooted firmware. Because this is easy way to root I don´t think there is no much development to find new exploit to root.

[Q] How to Root my Phone with 14.5.A.0.242 on Z Ultra C6833 ?

Hello!
I have test EasyRootTool 12.4 but impossible to root my official update on my ZU C6833. it's possible or not for the moment to get Root without flash any other Rom?
Up.
Interested to know the answer as well.
But I think it is not possible for now.
It would require some time before the devs can get around this so we may have to wait.
Download the compressed 14.5 file for the C6806 via XPERIFIRM.
Decrypt it via FLASHTOOL and then use FLASHTOOL to flash it.
Device must be BOOTLOADER Unlocked, first (This will void warranty and does a few other things.)
Hope this helps... pointing you in the right direction, definitely want to research all I said above. It's not as easy as flashing a NEXUS device that's for sure.
is any root exploit for this firmware ?
Not for the moment....

Using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...uide-rooting-xperia-z-ultra-lollipop-t3112214
rooting my C6833 with 14.5.A.0.242 worked like a charm. I just find that KingRoot app (version 4.0.0 in my case) somewhat suspicious,
because my virus scanner warned about the download location, the app is in Chinese, and it required network (WiFi) access.
My phone's bootloader was already unlocked (using Flashtool 0.9.18.6, which required the official Sony unlock code), but AFAIK that would not have been needed for rooting.

[Q] ROOT Xperia Z2 Tablet WiFi (SGP511) with Lollipop 5.0.2 - fw -23.1.A.0.690

I recently purchased Xperia Z2 Tablet WiFi (SGP511) with Lollipop 5.0.2 - fw -23.1.A.0.690... Can some walk me into root this device, I've check XDA forums but it does not give a clear step by step how to. Any help will be appreciated.

Basically the steps are as follows: Downgrade to Android 4.4.2 using Flashtool, then root with TowelRoot, install XZDualRecovery, then install a prerooted flashable Lollipop with TWRP if you like Lollipop. No need to unlock the bootloader. All the information should be available in the forum. Good luck!

That would be the last step to use the prerooted flashable.
I would recommend not unlocking your bootloader. If you want to unlock it, you need to run an additional program to backup your DRM keys, otherwise they will be lost for good.
You will need the correct 4.4.2 FTF file for your model number, then use Flashtool to flash it. It will wipe everything and restore to factory defaults. Instructions in the following post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2-tablet/general/ftf-collection-locked-unlocked-bl-t3061431
Then you can basically follow the instructions in this post to root:

And XZDualRecovery from this post:

Rooting guide

Is anyone willing to put together easy to follow rooting guide for Xpreria Z4 Tablet?
I am a new owner of said tablet and so far I am little lost still.
So far I have figured out that I need to unlock bootloader trough Sony developer website and then flash AndroPlusKernel v21 +, TWRP, SuperUser...
My tablet is currently running Android 5.0.2 (Build 280.A.8.260) and I am itching to upgrade to Marshmallow. Can I flash AndroPlusKernel once I upgrade to Marshmallow or do it now? I own Xpreria Z3 phone and rooting needs to be done on lower Android versions because otherwise one needs to downgrade first to root and then flash modified ROM.

Hi,
Unlocking bootloader causes a factory reset. So you lose the update to MM (I'm not sure after all
After that see my post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z4-...ooting-attempt-using-androplus-t3331928/page2

I suggest
doing an OTA update to MM while on stock (this is the easiest update path)
make sure MyXperia is OFF at all times
unlock bootloader through Sony (tablet will be wiped)
flash AndroPlus Kernel (v20+)
flash TWRP (see AndroPlus Kernel topic)
flash SuperSU
make absolutely sure MyXperia is OFF at all times
Optional: donate a bit to AndroPlus and Chainfire, or buy some of their apps / Pro licenses, to thank them for their hard work

Perfect, done! I'm running rooted Marshmallow now. Many thanks!
I want to do exactly the same and have some questions.
Is app "MyXperia" installed in MM ? I'm asking because I cant find it any more.
Is it possible and safe completely uninstall "MyXperia" it after root MM ?
Any advices ?

I can see my Xperia in Settings/Security on Marshmallow where it gives you an option to activate it.
I don't see it among apps where it could be disabled or uninstalled...
Everything sounds good but:
How do you boot into recovery?
How can you flash SU from Fastboot?
I'm stock in that step, please help.

Once you flash recovery, restart your tablet and press volume down button when the white screen with SONY Xperia is on and "yellowish/greenish" LED lights up. The LED will turn orange and tablet will enter recovery. While in recovery, flash SuperSU that you have previously downloaded and saved on your tablet.
