I bought an S6 Edge about a week ago from Three in the UK and was wondering why the 5.1 update is not available after other people on the same network have said they received the update a while ago. Anyone have any idea, is it just a slow roll-out?
Hate to say it mate but I wouldn't hold your breath for it. They may release it tomorrow, or it could be 6 months from now, who knows?
I noticed (back when I had an Xperia Z1) that Three are terribly slow at releasing updates. You'll probably be better off flashing it to be honest.
Hi mate,
im also on three, not had any OTA updates since release, I just use Kies 3 now to download the latest firmware, currently running 5.1.1 on three uk g925f but had to use kies to download the latest version
Our handset tester told me that Samsung has pulled the 5.1.1 update and isn't rolling it out any further because of a nasty bug.
Samsung will continue the rollout once they fix the bug.
This might be the reason Three uk hasn't received the update yet.
The bug is that the phone may freeze with screen off, not responding to any buttons and not charging at random times. This bug does not happen often, most users will never experience it, but it seems to be present in a lot if not all 5.1.1 updates for the s6 and s6 edge worldwide.
Oh: I've experienced this bug on all five devices i tested already. They only fix was to do a softreset (press power + volume down until device reboots). Luckily no data it's lost.

Hi, I've had my SGS2 for around 3 weeks now, and in that period I have had 2 random shut downs.
The first time it happened I was using the original firmware out of the box. The second time it happened (yesterday) I was using the latest firmware via Kies.
The phone is unlocked and unbranded from buymobilephones.net (UK), and I'm on the T-Mobile UK network.
The phone is NOT rooted and I am not overclocking.
Is my phone faulty or is this a software problem? Baring in mind this has only happened twice in the past 3 weeks.
backup data and factory reset would be my first step.
Followed by a return to the store .

Cheers, just did a factory reset. Should I ring Samsung to fix the phone (comes with 12 month warranty) or return it to the online retailer? Not sure what to do.
Just send it off to sammy

It's not faulty.
Your contract is with the retailer not Samsung .
I would see if phone restarts again before returning it .
But would inform the retailer of the problem to be within 28 days .

I've owned several phones over the past 15 years and I've never had such problems before, even with my previous Android the Orange San Francisco. Seriously, if I have a £500 phone I don't expect it to shut down randomly even it it's only twice in 3 weeks. I've missed some important calls and texts because my phone has shut down without me knowing.

I think you mean two weeks ago.....
If it continues, you may have a faulty one.
Well I have the same issue, it's in my pocket, next thing when I push the power button the screen just stays black.
Have to hold down the power button to drop it and then restart it.
Sooo, I had this happen once when it was on the table which took the phone in my pocket out the mix.
In the end I tried the battery fix with some geckostrip (that rubber easy removable strip you use on the back of phones to stop them sliding)
I put the strip on the underside (opposite of the connections) and wrapped it around the back (facing the cover).
This makes for a VERY tight snug fit in the unit.
It has now been 2 weeks without one single shutdown...so as much as I thought "this must be software or hardware related", it looks like it very well may be "hardware related" on the battery front.
For those who still have this issue try what I did and let us know your findings.
Cheers
Sheldon
Update: Okay never mind on the battery thing, phone lasted 2 weeks but just blacked out again.....
I had the same problem for many months but it stopped after I uninstallrd dolphin hd browser. No idea if coincidence or not but read a few others with sgs2 and dolphin installed had same problem. Do you by chance have it installed?

I've actually experienced problems similar to this twice now with my SII.
First time was straight out of the box. I charged it up and then took it travelling with me. I kept taking it out of my pocket to find out it had turned off. I thought it was my fault with the power button being in a bit of a silly place. But then it turned off whilst it was lying on my desk or in my hand whilst I was using it. Whenever it turned back on again the battery usage history showed a big sudden drop (10+%) in battery level and then it would increase slowly for a while after. Spoke to O2-UK and they got me to do a software reset and then a hardware reset when it reoccurred, which didn't fix the problem either. They then did a next day replacement.
After I got the most recent update to TW I started to experience times when I'd come to unlock my phone but the screen would stay black. It would, however, give haptic feedback when I pressed the power button but not respond to touch. I recently did a software reset of my phone due to another problem (it kept thinking it was docking this time - but stopped on the day I took it into the O2 Shop) and haven't experienced this since.
For so expensive device I expect only 2 "legal" reasons to shut down while running stock ROM with no additional software or changed hardware (i.e. battery):
1. Battery went completly empty (or as empty as power saving settings allow)
2. I forced it to shut down via power button
If it shuts down on its own under this conditions, first doubt is faulty hardware.
And then it should be quickly replaced by provider/shop/wherever it came from.
Everything else might raise doubt in faulty piece of additional software.
Have had similar issues. Uninstalled the go weather app / widget and nothing since. Might just be a coincidence though.

So I've read about this "sleep of death" that sounds like the same thing as what this is.
It appears to affect a wide margin of Samsung devices over time.
One post suggested it was because WIFI activates while the screen is off and the device is in sleep mode, thus blaming the like of apps such as Juice Defender and WIFI managment built into gingerbread.
I have uninstalled gingerbread, enabled watchdog to monitor utilization (out of curiosity) and set the WIFI sleep mode to NEVER.
One day down without a issue, I'll see what happens over the next few weeks.

I heard that frequent shutdown/reboots happens with 2.3.6 release.
If you got it, better go back to 2.3.5 or earlier. Iit worked for me.
I have 2.3.4 and i get these problems once a month or so.
Wy OH has the same firmware but she gets a random shutdown once a week. We both have the 1900 Anker battery (not stock one) - weird. I am going to try a different ROm and see if it makes a difference.
same issue but after i have deleted à few apps the issue was gone...?

guys im having the same issue too. its happened like 2 times in a month now. it previously happened when i was on 2.3.3 and stock ROM.
today it just happenned again even after being on superatmos 2.1, on 2.3.6.
whats going on?
Hi all, I have a weird issue that nobody else seems to be having (based on a forum post search). I recently bought 2 XT1528 Moto E's to set up for use with T-Mobile. They both came out of the box with 5.0.2 installed, and I was able to change the network settings to GSM and set the APN successfully to get it to use T-Mobile's network.
I then upgraded one of the phones to the 5.1 OTA update, but I started experiencing freezes on the 5.1 phone. This would occur intermittently, but essentially, the touchscreen would become unresponsive during use. If I pressed the power button once to lock the screen and once again to unlock it, the touchscreen would work again. It doesn't seem to be related to the phone lagging/becoming overburdened, because the background processes would continue to function even when the touchscreen is unresponsive (Youtube videos would continue to play smoothly, apps would continue to download and update, etc.). This would sometimes occur several times in several minutes (touchscreen becomes unresponsive after ~5 seconds of use), and sometimes it wouldn't occur for several hours.
Going back to the 5.0.2 device, this doesn't happen at all. I can't tell if this is a software or hardware issue, so I was wondering if anyone else had experience with this. If it's a software issue, is there a way to revert back to 5.0.2? It's also entirely possible that it's coincidental that the phone with the faulty hardware was the one that I upgraded to 5.1 (I don't recall if the 5.1 phone exhibited this behavior when it was on 5.0.2).
Has anyone else experienced this or something similar? I'm now a little scared to upgrade the other phone to 5.1 as well, in case this is a software issue. Thanks!
I have not heard of this issue occurring with this phone so perhaps yours has a defect. The 5.1 update released like a month or so ago and this issue hasn't been brought up before now. Any who..you will want to get a replacement at some point.

Thanks for the feedback. I definitely am getting a replacement for the 5.1 phone (if it is a software issue, I need another 5.0.2 phone anyway). I ended up taking the leap and upgrading the working phone to 5.1, and no issues so far, so it definitely looks like a hardware defect at this point. I'll keep an eye on the newly upgraded phone and see if it exhibits these issues. Will report back in a few days.
I have also experience freeze ups with the touch screen, brand new phone latest software with 5.1
Performing a factory reset (from android) seems to fix this on a device that was upgraded to 5.1
Mine happens on the last little bit near the bezel on the right side.
I factory reset 2x.

Is this confirmed as a widespread issue or a limited problem? I have an XT1528 on a Verizon MVNO and have avoided upgrading to avoid the problem.

This hasn't occurred for mine yet, so maybe it just happens to random devices with 5.1.

So I have this Verizon unlocked SM-G965U and decided to flash it with firmware SM-G965U1, after setting up the fingerprint lock, it will shut off a few seconds after the screen goes off. If I remove the option to unlock the phone with the fingerprint it will not shut off. It started happening after I flashed it, and it did not happen before today.
I already tried flashing a second firmware, right now it’s currently on build PPR1.180610.011.G965U1UE6CSI1
I decided to update and change the firmware to SM-G965U1 because the one I got from Verizon wasn’t giving me updates at all (it was stuck on security updates from April 2019). I’m not in the US so I decided to go for the unlocked firmware model to get updates.
I found people who have had this in the past but no one seems to give a definitive fix. I don’t think this is a hardware issue.
Has anyone found this issue before and fixed it?
Should I try flashing another firmware coming back to the original model (SM-G965U)? (Is there any risk if I flash the firmware with carrier?)
Thank you!
So pretty much two days later and I have come to the conclusion that the issue with the phone is hardware related. I've don research online and several report they had the same problem after getting it wet, while others never got it wet, so that's why I had hopes mine was not a hardware issue. Granted I DID get the phone wet but the symptom described on the first post started after the second day i got it wet and right after I flashed my unit.
Just for the record, I flashed the phone back and forth from SM-G965U to SM-G965U1 (that's when I got the shutting down issue when fingerprint lock is enabled), reverted it to SM-G965U (tried at least two different firmwares), and finally settled in SM-G965U1 (I mean, why not?). I did try firmware with security patch prior to September 1st 2019 (since a user suggested that's when he got the issue on his phone).
Firmwares used to test:
SM-G965U1_1_20190816080114_wltpjfnoy9_fac
SM-G965U_1_20190910091240_jebmc6r22k_fac

Nah... I never had those gestures activated to begin with. Besides, I performed a hard reset and even flashed different firmwares with no luck. Only option now is to replace the fingerprint sensor.
You're not the only one with this problem. The solution is to turn off fingerprint unlocked.

I hate to bump a old thready but I just got the s9 new to replace my s7. Upon setting up the phone with my finger print I am experiencing the same exact problem... Has this not been solved? Also turning off finger print log in seems like it's not addressing the issue. I've never had this problem with my s7 and feel like this isn't going to be good if a new s9 is already experiencing this problem...
Thanks,

The Zenfone 9 is a great little device. However, since today I have seen several automatic reboots of the device. Anyone else seeing this problem?
I haven't seen a reboot; any new app you've installed of late?
Good hint - I have installed one yesterday. Will uninstall and report back.
Unfortunately is still get 1-2 reboots a day. Not critical but annoying! Anyone else?

Yes I am. No worries. Device is great. Just software.
Did a hard reset - problem persists. Not sure what the cause is - working with Asus support on it.
Hi, a friend of mine with a ZF9 has got reboot every night during charge (he uses slow charge, this night he'll try normal charge).
He had reboot even during daytime, he did a hard reset yesterday and for now everything is ok, but I'll update with new info in case of.
I've been having those reboots for weeks now. There is an official thread on the asus forums talking about it. There are more than a dozen people who have also reported it and from the looks of it, Asus hasn't found the source of the problem yet. Out of curiosity, in which country did you buy it? Are you rooted?
my version is a french version. I neither had any beta OS on it nor was it rooted. I wanted to provide Asus with Logs but they rather wanted the device for repair, now I'm waiting for its return.
I doubt this is a hardware issue though as the reboots did happen in cold state w/o any system activities ongoing. The only special thing on my setup was that I used two sim cards in parallel.
I did a hard reset and he problem remained. I also used slow charging.
I'm from Italy and the phone of my friend is not rooted and with bootlloader locked.
I heard my friend minutes ago, and from when he deactivated programmed charging the issue seems to have disappeared. Have you got programmed charging on?
Yes, I have the upload scheduled. But I'm beginning to suspect that the problem originates from a lot in Italy. I just asked you because I thought it was from there.
Love this phone but also having the same issue. Bought from Asus directly (US site) too. There's a whole thread of folks with the problem too on their forum:
ZenFone 9 randomly restarts

Try to deactivate it and report please ;-)
My friend hasn't got reboot since then for now, two days and a half ago.
My reboots do not happen while charging, FWIW. And they're always while the phone is idle (sitting on desk). I look up and see it's spontaneously rebooting...
I was having reboots on custom kernel, just updated to 32.2050.2050.34 without going custom kernel (still rooted) and have had no reboots yet.
Mine reboots while watching YouTube app, either with high brightness, while charging, or both. It seems to be less likely to happen if i clear cache from YouTube settings.
It typically doesn't happen in other apps. Phone is stock. EU version.
After testing for a few weeks, there is a good chance that the reboots on my device are due to Magisk (not modules)
As I'm rooted, I have to manually check for updates via xperifirm. There was an upsated released: version 64.1.A.0.913.
Anybody updated and tested? Apparently camera apps have been updated! Any new features?
I wont get time to update yet, just thought I'd ask.
Thanks
Unless I'm mistaken, this update allows you to switch from android 12 to android 13
Huh we have android 13 for months now ...so i would say no .
Its for sure a security patch.
Chinese 72 got it 2 weeks ago , european 54 got it a week ago and US has to wait for another two weeks , i wish it would be all at the same time .
Hello,
The only feature I expericence since the upgraded is the "phone too hot warning" issue. I use the phone since late november without any trouble.
For the latest week, the phone displayed the orange warning sign and closed the camera app maybe 10 times. It couldn't even go through a 10 minutes google meet call...
It may not be related to the latest release, and I may be the only one having this issue...

Yeah, you're right about security patch. Thought perhaps something has trickled down from the new phone releases, like improved camera apps as they have changed their version numbers. Thanks

Ouch, sorry to hear that. I will update in a few days and see if I have the same issue. Though tbh, I havent had as many issues as some have, perhaps because of root and cleaning up some bloat and adding in adblockers etc.
You should do a full all apps cache wipe and see if that helps.

I had overheating problems with meet and 5g i was outside but on older different firmware.
You also have to understand now its summer time (probably in your country too) so you cant really compare november temperatures with current ones unless you did that in room with AC on.
I'm on the latest US version so still waiting for our update for this cycle. But since my last update, the phone has been very warm to the touch during normal use and I've seen the heat warning many times while using camera. I have never seen it before. Battery life is crap now too and used to be fantastic. Maybe you guys lucked out last month and the US version got whatever it was to cause the heating issues first? My last update was around 300mb so it was bigger that usual I think.
