Hi there,
I recently rooted my S6 Edge and installed GSam Battery Monitor with the Root Companion. My little brother got his hands on my phone and opened up the app. He clicked uninstall in the root companion, but he closed the app before it was finished, and now it can't be uninstalled, or reinstalled through any normal means. I've tried searching for any files in Root Explorer, though I can't seem to locate any of them. This is my first Android, so if you could help me out, it would be appreciated! I haven't tripped knox, and I would also prefer not to factory reset over this.
Ref lashing the stock firmware always fixes every problem that arises with my phone...
That said, It does require a hard factory data reset
If your phone is still rooted try getting Titanium Backup, it should help you find the app and remove all traces of it. Failing that you can use it to backup your other apps etc and restore them (with data) after a factory reset (just make sure you transfer them off of the phone as I cant remember is a factory reset wipes the storage partition or not)
Edit: FYI the root companion app is installed to /data/app/com.gsamlabs.bbm.rootcompanion-1.apk/base.apk, after you use it you will also find it @ /system/priv-app/base.apk

A couple of weeks ago, my SGS II crashed really badly and affected my phone in that I kept getting force close messages as well as "System UIDs Inconsistent" ones plus I couldn't access the partitions within my phone in Windows Explorer even though the phone was recognised by it.
It looks as though I may need to do a factory reset which to me is going to be a pain in the ass especially where videos and MP3's are concerned.
Another problem is that even though I installed VillainROM and followed the rules to the letter concerning its installation, supposedly I didn't install the system recovery that was unique to it and which would have made things a lot easier for me.
I don't even know if there is a way to backup data from the partitions to a 16GB or bigger micro SD card within the regular system recovery or not.
If I do need to a factory reset, are there any Apps out there that will let me recover data from the internal partitions as long as I don't write over the lost data concerned? (I know there's software available for PC that does something similar with data stored on hard drives)
Well on Cutom ROM you can use Titanium Backup Pro for Backup and Restoring. On Stock ROM's even Kies would do.
Regards.

That's the irony, I actually had Titanium Backup installed on my VillainROM custom ROM and I'd even bought an upgrade to the Pro version but for some reason, it wouldn't let me upgrade to the full version even though I had a license for it that I paid for, and as a result, it wouldn't let me do a full backup without having to do it slowly.
If I did reinstall Titanium Backup and managed to get my problem sorted out, would it recover deleted data or not?
Titanium Backup would only restore what it previously backed up.
The most easy way would be to just dump your data partition into a tarball (given you have root access on your phone).
Just hop into a terminal or adb shell and do
Code:
su
busybox tar zcvf /sdcard/data.tar.gz /data
That will give you a full .tar "backup" of all the data on the internal data partition.
Restoring that to app after a wipe and reinstall can be a bit pain in the poo, but it's better than nothing - and a recovery of previous files after a wipe would at best give you the same.

How do I go into a terminal or adb shell? I'm using Windows 7 if that's any help?
For Terminal install a Terminal App from the marketplace on your phone and run it directely on it.
ADB you get from the Android SDK.

I take it that once I do the factory reset on the phone and install a Terminal App on it via Android Market, I just need to run the command that you recommend that I do and I should be able to recover the data that was on my partitions, pre factory restore?
(Apologies for asking all these questions as I'm still a newbie when it comes to Android and I'm just pissed that this happened in the first place because of the overheating that caused it to happen in the first place)
What if I select advance restore in CWM recovery and restore data? Will it affect the flashed rom?

No, you run the command BEFORE the factory wipe and use the tarball you got to restore any data you still need.

Should work too, but depending on *what* borked up the install (might be some setting/config/piece-of-data somewhere) it will be restored as well - but definitaly worth a shot and pretty much "a must" to do those backups (I do them regulary).

It is possible to restore deleted files deleted from samsung galaxy s2 android phone after factory reset, take a look at this guide: recover data after android phone factory reset
You'd better do not use the phone before you get back lost files.

No program is free without compromise. If you factory reset without backup, there is not much you can do to recover deleted files. That's why such warnings exist before reverting back to a clean state.
You can try a Recuva download the program connect as storage device and try to scan Hope it helps

Recovery programs such as recuva work best on magnetic media such as pc hard drives. Flash storage on mobile phone are different as there are no moving parts, so recovery is not that easy. There is also a much higher likelihood of corruption on flash storage too when restoring deleted files, so that's why there is really no 'best' method for recovery.
How to Recover Deleted Data from Android after Factory Reset
When you perform a factory reset on Android, you will return the device to the condition it was when shipped from the factory. A factory data reset can help fix most issues that occur on Android. Any incorrect settings, glitches, bugs, viruses, or software problems on the device will be wiped clean.
But the files deleted from an Android phone aren’t actually wiped from its memory. Instead, the files are only marked as deleted and invisible. The system will write data over those files in the future. You can later use specialized data recovery tool to scan the Android memory for deleted files and try to recover them.

Got any tips on what software?
I know people have asked how to remove all traces of root, and people say what they've done is enough. Well for me I work in the financial servies industry where everything is highly regulated. There is an app called GOOD for enterprise that I have to have for my email and calendar sync.
Well it automatically disables and locks itself if it detects root. So I did all that should be required to unroot, and it still doesn't work. Tech says it will detect any root file or app on the phone.
I have deleted my adblocker, Titanium backup, superuser, wifi tether, and the z4root apk's I had still on my sd card. Can anyone think of anything else besides a complete reset
What sucks is that every time it locks it has to be uninstalled, reinstalled, and I have to call tech to get a new pin. which is a hassle

Your best bet is just too reset to stock and be done with the hassle.
Agreed. I think wiping data/factory reset and flash SBF would save you a lot of the trouble. Or...use another phone for work...shouldn't they pay for that anyway?
You will have to do an SBF, just doing a "factory reset" through the phone won't be enough.
I am surprised an app can check for root and check for any files that are related to rooting in the first place.
Well, it worked for about 4-5 days (right after I posted this) and then I opened it and it locked itself again. I hadn't downloaded or installed anything and I had used it earlier in the day.
I used RSD Lite and the files here to unroot.

I'm pretty sure i flashed the sbf because I had to do a bunch of OTA updates when I was done. This time when I called tech support I got a guy that knew nothing about rooting (last time I had a guy who had a rooted phone himself) and he said I can't unroot it myself, it is something that has to be done at the sprint store.
I can't imagine what else I have left to do, or what it picked up that it didn't over the course of 5 days

You need a full stock and factory reset. Basicly new like you just got the phone out of the box. Not even turned on.

I took it to the sprint store to try to fenagle them to replace it and they ended up going into the dialer and doing ##786 (or some number like that) and then put in some sort of verification number. Essentially it fully reset the phone without losing any data or apps or settings.
Immediately following that the app worked, but I'm not sure for how long. Is there any way to do that full stock and factory reset without losing everything?
I used the RSDlite for restore my phone and it kept all my data and apps.
put all of the stuff you need on your external sd card, remove it, wipe/restore to factory settings and flash stock sbf and you should be unrooted with all your apps and data safely stored on your sd card
Sorry new to Android and am learning so please be gentle....I rooted my Razr Maxx and once I finished I installed some apps and made sure I had root access. I read that it was a good idea that I due a factory reset so I did....after the reset was complete. I noticed the icon SuperUser was now missing. Do I need that Icon? Was there any additional settings I could access via it. If so, how do I get it back?? thanks.
When you make a factory reset, all the user apps (that means all the aplications installed in the /data partition, the apps that the user has installed and wheren't there when you bought the phone) and all the personal configurations of the system are erased. A factory reset leaves your phone just as the way it was when you first turned on. So, if your SuperUser.apk was installed in the data partition it sure will be gone. That app is needed to administrate which aplications get elevated acces to some system resources, so if it's not there it is like you have no root access. Some scripts used to root the phone push the superuser.apk to the System/app folder instead of data/app, so it's not deleted by a factory reset, but this is not your case as it seems... You could donwload the superuser app from google play, but I dont recommend it as I tried it once and it didn't work. I think you should try repeating the whole root proccess, and not making a factory reset after it, it was never necessary for me. Good luck!

Just do the entire rooting process again. If you do factory reset you will loose again your superuser.apk
You should be able to download the superuser app as the phone is still rooted. Try superSU, that's the SU app that installed when I rooted (eternity project easy root)
I did the same thing by mistake once & just downloaded the app & it worked like a charm.

basically guys I've rooted my phone then stupidly deleted the superSU off my phone I then tried to reinstall it which failed so now when I go to open the program it says no binary found whatever that means. I would like to wipe my phone as I've downloaded so much crap onto and make the option available of being able to unroot my phone in the future, How would I go about this? (I was thinking of just factory resetting it then re-installing the root files again?) Thanks

download the rom you want to use onto your sd card. open your recovery (i use cwr) and wipe data and cache then flash the rom.
make sure to backup your texts/call logs/contacts/apps as you will loose everything.
So I've needed some windows app that will help me manage my contacts and I've came across TunesGO
I've installed it on my pc and for syncing with my s3 it needed developer options turned on and then it asked to install drivers onto my mobile and I've granted it
So now I've dealt with my contacts and I don't need TunesGO any more but I'm very skeptic about their installed stuff on my phone so I would like to remove that stuff but I don't know what has been installed, nor do I know how to uninstall it. any idea how can I do it?
If you want to make sure the phone is cleared of all files, flash a stock ROM using Odin and perform a factory wipe before booting the newly-flash stock ROM for the first time.

Although 100% acurate, I do not dispute this advice at all and it will definitely solve the problem, the issue of trust would lie with the pc app.
To OP
When android uninstalls an app it should automatically remove any files associated along with the said app. Any redundant files will be completely useless and inaccessible to anyone. When that happens you usually get issues with googleplay not being able to install apps. If you dont have this issue then no need to worry.
The pc app however, I'd be checking that with ccleaner for remnants as that is a lot easier to have your security compensated.
If you are worried about numbers being held on a "cloud" then you should never install an app that does that in the first place as you have effectively given your privacy away when you accepted the terms upon installation.
