I am sure most of you here know about DoomLord!
He is an experienced developer and has done great works for many previous Xperia Models! Do check his signature in the link below.
We (SXS owners) are all waiting for DoomLord to get an SXS in his hands! But unfortunately its not yet launched in his country. He couldn't wait any more for it and he just bought an 'HTC One X' today!
Link Here!
SXS is a great mobile. And with developers like DoomLord we can expect great things in the mobile. Now we just have to donate some money to him so that he can get an SXS and start development in it. What say buddies?

DoomLord is a very very talented developer, I really hope we could donate the money he need to buy his own SXS!
I also think we all should write to Sony and tell them to donate a phone for him! Just as they have done with other phones to other devs!

Yeah. I read somewhere that Sony had donated some mobiles to CyanogenMod team for development purpose. But I wonder how we can contact Sony!

i already contacted Sony a few weeks back... they said that their device loaning program is not available in India
P.S. regarding donating a device... there is no pressure guys... if the community wants they can, else no big deal...
Yes, I will make a donation...Uh oh, i just did it!

I wouldn't mind donating if Doom actually will continually develop for the S. As he is more interested in the One X (Yea, I read the India thread, because I read all the threads for the S to see whats going on) I am afraid that he would develop more for the One X and leave S more or less in the dark.
So if Doom commits to developing his kernal and such for the S as well, I will be willing. But at this point in time, I am not interested in contributing in buying a phone for someone who may/may not be doing steady (read: things every once in awhile, and making full working, not rushed products) development for the phone.
I'm not saying that I don't trust you Doom, I just don't know you as a person and I'm not one for giving money into a potential hole and not get a result . So I will also wait and see where this thread goes .
Nothing personal, I know you are one of the best developers for sony/SE devices, I'm just a careful person
im sure majority of people here would be happy to donate, if everyone donated like a few dollars im sure it'd be enough
This is very well worth it. We have seen first hand he does not favorite 1 particular device. He spreads his work over all his device's. Someone needs to set up a donation system. As we need doom here with xperia S. There's only so much he can do without the device. He's time spend with kernels for past xperia's is the sort of experience we need. No doubt we will see lots of Rom makers but all roms need kernels so it makes perfect sense.

Is there a way to set up a donation system where the money is pledged but only actually taken when a goal is reached. That way we could all 'donate' but if the goal is never reached, we wouldn't actually be paying.

yes u are right... so we can have something like "pledges", where in users who are willing to donate put up pledges of the amount they are willing to donate... if the final pledges come to target amount only then everyone can start donating...
in my opinion this is a very transparent way where in everyone knows clearly what is going on...
we did this for the Xperia Play and it worked out well... u can ask the whole Xperia Play community for the development support i give...
i am very much interested in Xperia S but stupid Sony has delayed its launch here in India... i had already begun work for custom kernels, everything was nicely setup (kernel sources, patches, git repos) but this weird bootloader issue is annoying, else u guys would have had a working custom kernel 2 weeks back
BUT again i want to remind everyone that this is totally upto the community... i am not forcing anyone to donate, nor am i begging for a device i already develop for the Xperia Arc, Play and just bought the HTC One X so i am already very happy with the devices i have ...
I remember for the X10 there was a sort of pledge thread created when they were trying to crack the bootloader (or was it GB? I cant remember anymore :/)...
I don't remember how it worked out, but I remember there was quite a list compiled, it just takes some monitoring from the starter, but I think even a paypal account was created and monitored, and the transaction codes were monitored and such.
It was a pretty advanced system, because I remember the payments had to even get sent back at some point, but that turned out okay...
I suppose something like that could work, its just gotta get looked into all there needs to be is a target, and someone willing to monitor a thread and/or the paypal account in case the target isnt met. If the target isn't met, it's simply a matter of reversing all the funds.
The paypal account could also be repurposed into other goals (ie: Further developments, etc etc..)

Have seen this done before. But we have to hope that all xperia S owners are truthful and we Have no bad pledges that don't get paid up. What would be nice is a sticky thread name and shame list. Come on people lets show are support.
Our site xperiagamer.com will be putting out some tweets today to help get people's attention. Lets make this happen

the thing is here, in India, the Reserve bank has some strange laws because of which ppl cant send money using paypal outside of India... so in case the whole community shows interest i can talk to a few of my friends who stay in UK/USA to see how we can work this out so that incase the funds have to be reversed there wont be an issue...
I know DoomLord from 2 years ago and he is the best Kernels maker and i am ready to donate.
PS don't worry guys he can work on multiple devices at the same time trust me

Bizarre to have such a rule, PayPal isn't fully cooperative and Sony won't lend you a device, thats just....annoying :/
Well let's see where the thread goes this week, and if the support is there, than it won't hurt to give it a try. No doubt we will find a use for the PayPal account after you get the phone, and even for later devices, a general -Xperia Development- account would come in handy.
Let just put down the amount we wish to donate and when it reaches the target, we proceed to donate the $ to him.

Hi to all.
I was thinking of requesting all members out in the community (at least on XDA) to put a shout out to HTC and/or AT&T for getting us update to Ice Cream Sandwich. Perhaps if we were all to send in an email or something then it may get the point across to them that we want ICS - if not at least some news about their plans. If we all pool in and probably bombard them it may get us some more solid response rather than only 1 or 2 of us trying our luck.
I was thinking that around the 15th of May we would all get to it.
juannicolas has already agreed to help in.
Request all with the device to pool in.
We will however need adequate contact details for getting through to the right people. So those of us who have gotten a reply previously/know any contact details, please add them in so that it will be of aid in our project.
I got an email from HTC - a customer service specialist from [email protected]
Please add in any other contact details available.
Also, I remember cookiesowns @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17799114 having got his hands on a dev device. A big shout out to him to help us if he can get in contact with someone at HTC he knew from who he got the device so that that person could help us out if possible. Will PM him later on.
UPDATE 9th May, 2012:
As of now, we are planning on going ahead with how many we can on the 15th May, 2012 and then again on the 1st June and then decide further plan. Thought would be a good idea to update the 1st post here:
The following will be the locations where we would voice our concerns:
Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/HTC - post in
Facebook HTC USA: http://www.facebook.com/htcusa - post in
Twitter: https://twitter.com/#!/htc - tweet
HTC ICS Blog: http://blog.htc.com/2012/03/ics/ - comment
HTC Tell us what you think blog: http://blog.htc.com/2012/04/your-phone-your-thoughts-tell-us-what-you-think/ - comment
HTC Support: http://www.htc.com/us/support/email-support - email them
HTC write a Review for HTC Jetstream: http://www.htc.com/us/tablets/htc-jetstream-att/ - include grievances about no ICS/information about updates
Also, an online petition has been created for all HTC tablets wanting ICS (Flyer, View and Jetstream) and they also joining in. Link is http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/htc-tablet-users-want-updates/
So, do sign in, spread the word and lets hope for the best. Will post further updates in the thread and in this post as well.
UPDATE 14TH MAY 2012
Many of you have heard about thenews posted at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1651651. We will however still continue with the above plans tomorrow-I.e. 15th May 2012 by contacting HTC by different means. However, a small change. Please add in that give us ICS or release the source code and partition block data so that we can do so if you'll aren't interested.
Ipetition for the same also made at http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/release-source-code-and-block-partition-data-for/
Do sign, spread the word and join in tomorrow. We shall repeat the exercise on the 1st June again. HTC is liable to answer us so we deserve an answer. Chances are more we will get an answer if we all join in.
I'm in.
but i'm not sure that bombarding a useless minion that knows nothing will do the trick..
we should do that, and also use the public platform - Facebook page, twitter, HTC ics blog (http://blog.htc.com/2012/03/ics/). all with the same massage at the same day..

That is perfectly fine. Will post here with further details.
Add in an online petition too?
Would it be a good idea to add in an online petition too? If yes, anyone willing to take that up and get it started as well and share details here?
I am in the process of manually getting hold of the users who have a Jetstream so as to PM them all about the plan and ask for their support too.
Have got only the Development section to check for users who posted in the General, Accessories and Apps sections. Will take a while for sure.
Count me in although I M not on AT&T I am on Rogers...
It is my opinion that we shouldn't do this until xda posts an rss news feed about the organized attempt to contact htc and plea for an update, potentially reaching more users to join this bandwagon.
5 or 6 people emailing htc does nothing.
I'm in.From Israel.Unlocked
are we to try doing all at the same time (Hour-wise)?
also, i'd try contact the flyer forum and unite with them. as the "ignored htc tablets users"
and another question, are we to post the same message or each of us will write something somewhere in random?
as for the places to spam, i'd go for HTC USA facebook page as well.

Me too. And contacting AT&T probably won't do much good. It's not like HTC's released ICS for the Jetstream and AT&T is holding it back. If AT&T + Rogers could market this as an ICS tablet, it'd theoretically sell better.

That is also a good idea. Don't mind it either way. I managed to list out those active on the forum and am ready to send them all a pm to invite them to join in-its around 120 or 130 people. But then again we aren't certain how many will join in too.
I don't know how XDA will post the RSS and when. If that is what others feel would be the correct step ahead, then let's do that. Opinions from others? I am willing for either options and will surely contribute the best I can. Basically we need to take an organised step with a lot of the users out here so as to catch HTC'S attention rather than a few of us just getting small "ignorance is bliss cues" from HTC - and for this I do feel more the merrier would be more effective rather than the earlier the better.
On another note, how can we get XDA to issue such a News feed? Do we have to request someone or contact someone or something? Can the forum moderator also please guide us about this?

I feel it would be better to add in our own messages rather than the same hum drum of same messages. And let's add in the HTC USA Facebook page as well to the list.
As seen above, typhoopnikan feels it would be a better idea to wait for XDA to issue an RSS then we take action. I feel its a good idea too. Others please voice your opinion so we can decide. Perhaps if 1 of you could poll in, we will go with the majority (sorry but I don't know how to start a poll here or would have done so myself)
And as far as including HTC Flyer section guys also in, it would certainly catch the attention of HTC more than just us Jetstream guys but it would also take a lot more organising, spreading the word more and getting more to join in which would surely take more time. If someone from the Flyer section can take the responsibility to pool in and coordinate with us, perhaps it could work.

Contacting AT&T and/or Rogers I felt would be a good idea so that we don't leave any page untouched. Personally I don't have either so they will just not reply to any of my queries. I sim unlocked my device around December 2011 - January 2012 and have been using different SIMs with it. Still, I would go with the majority-as the majority say, so we shall do.

A few ways to get this movement recognized via XDA rss feed...
1. Via "tip us" page and let them know about this. Though, we may get ignored. http://www.xda-developers.com/suggest-content/
2. Contact those who often publish on XDA about EVO devices. Ones I search for and get consistent results are

Nice try, but the onus falls on Samsung if they can't sort this out.
hi guys as some of you know a few of us are trying to port various roms to the htc one max, however this is proving very difficult as we do not have the kernel source code which is the main thing stopping us. Recently i have tweeted at @HTCDev on twitter asking them if and when they plan to release them, and i figured that many voices are stronger than 1 so if lots of people tweet @HTCDev we might have a standing chance of getting them just an idea !
you might have seen the other thread from which involved emailing HTC about the same thing and we did not get much of response there.. we can surely do this, but don't know if that will help
@PradeepVizz 16s
@htcdev hello, when can we expect the kernel sources for the MAX to be available for downloads?

Anyone who is down to do some work with me for all variants I'm specifically Verizon but I'll work on all of them with you guys feel free to hit me up..
As for the kernel source I spoke directly to Shauna from HTCDev on the phone as she called me twice until she actually got me cuz I lol screen my calls and when realized it was her again I answered.. When anyone sends an email through HTCDev "tell us what you want" it goes directly to her, so we actually established a relationship haha.. She told me for every email I sent and for all the emails I encouraged you guys to send that she pings corporate. Corp then sends them the source and they go ahead and upload it. She basically told me not to expect anything until as early as January 2nd when they start coming back from vacation from the holidays.. So it is coming, they are fully aware that it needs to be posted and they are indeed working on it for us..
So yes like I said I'm ready to go so hit me up peeps.....

Excited to know your dev setup, I have got virtual box for Ubuntu 12.10 ready for the same. Thanks for the update. I am no kernel dev but want to start kicking things and yeah got some great support from you and the other guys.
There was another dev who left the device a few days ago, not sure what the reason was
The worst part i suspect is going to be after KitKat Update, which is like about 1 month away and we need to repeat the waiting again for that :/
Thanks for update! keep rocking!!!
Well as long as we get some type of source and better it being 4.3 source I'm sure Flyhalf won't have to much of a problem building us a solid CM11 using this sources.. I believe its pretty much what he did with the original HTC One but this was also on Verizon which is what I'm on.. Either way we should hopefully be getting somewhere very soon!!
Sent a "Tell us what your Want" to HTCDev. Tracking # 3936471
I also have a case open with HTC dev

Yo whaddup whaddup pradeep.... Yo so to everyone and all I'm back! Sorry I took a little holiday break from posting and what not lol.. So I officially went out and bought a brand new hefty solid state drive some new ram and a nice little dev box and installed my favorite Linny dis Fedora! It's all set up for strictly Android development and Android development only!!!!!!!!!!
So yes like I said I'm ready to go so hit me up peeps.....

hey all! how have you been? the kernel source situation is getting a bit ridiculous! we are about to get the 4.4 update in a few weeks and still don't have the source code for 4.3, i can't imagine the wait we are going to have to go through for the 4.4 source code!
Yep. I have sent about 27 request to HTC Dev. The Answer is the same. "We have escalated your issue to Tier 2 for "Tracking".
I responded back saying.. I don't care about tracking.. I want to know when they will honor the GPL for release of the kernel.
The answer is "Sorry we do not have a ETA for the release of the kernel. Please keep an eye on our htcdev.com site and the sources will be posted there when released."
So I took to twitter and have been calling them out there asking for GPL compliance for the HTC One Max Kernel Source for both 4.3 now and 4.4 upon deployment.
Newest Email after I have been raising hell on twitter.
Dear Deadphoenix,
It is really nice to hear from you.
Deadphoenix, I totally understand what you are saying and in this case this situation, due to policies, needs to be handle by a higher department and that is why that I am asking you for your contact number, this will help me in order to pass this to the right department.
Please let me know this information and I will be more than glad to help you with this.
Have an amazing Wednesday, Deadphoenix.
Thanks for the effort mate
Here is my most recent email I sent to HTC Dev:
Hello,
From information I gathered from the Free Software Foundation (authors of the GPL) about this (as well as some other folks I know that have a better legal background than I), and I compiled the following information for you.
Brett Smith at the Free Software Foundation said, in response to your recent claims that the GPL provides for a delay: "HTC's reading is outrageous -- we honestly thought no respectable company would have the gall to publicly make this argument. A delay of 90-120 days is not reasonable, considering that they must already have the source code.". Clearly, then, the authors of the GPL did not intend for any provision for a delay to be present.
Other legally-trained acquaintances commented that allowing a delay there would easily lead to reductio ad absurdum -- i.e., if an arbitrary delay could be inserted in this contract (which HTC agreed to upon releasing the binary), then that would imply that an arbitrary delay could be inserted in any contract. In most legal cases, it has been shown that if something can be read as either being absurd or not being absurd, the not-absurd reading is the one legally taken.
You mentioned 3(b) of the GPL, which begins that you must "accompany [the binary distribution] with a written offer, valid for at least three years [...] a complete machine-readable copy of the corresponding source code", and it seems that the second clause there -- "valid for at least three years" is the crux of it. Currently, the distribution does come with an offer, but the offer is not valid -- when I asked for the source code, HTC was unable to provide it for me, claiming instead that it would be given to me at an unspecified point in the future. This is not acceptable.
I note also that legal interpretations of a work tend to consider not just the strictly written details, but the intent; when details are in dispute, the overall intent is then referred to. The goal of the GNU GPL is to enhance the freedoms of anyone who receives the software, and to force one who might modify the software and distribute it for their own purposes to publish their changes back to the community. The GNU GPL does not have any provisions for temporarily withholding source for competitive or other reasons; the agreement that one must make when one distributes a binary is that one must also distribute source. Not doing so at the same time would be a violation, not just of the letter, but of the spirit of the contract; the goal of the GNU GPL is to enrich the freedoms of the commons through which software is distributed.
Given these four points -- the FSF's reading, the reductio ad absurdum, the letter of section 3(b) of the GPL, and the spirit of the GPL as a whole -- it is clear that the GPL requires that HTC release the source for the kernel at the same time or earlier than the binary. To that end, I request that you, within 24 hours, provide me with a link to the source for kernel of the HTC One Max 4.3 as well as the 4.4 Kernel upon release of the binary to the public.
It is clear from the reading and intention of the GPL that HTC is currently in violation of the GPL requirements of making the Kernel Source available. I have a cc'd copy of this message prepared for the media outlets as well in anticipation of HTC's denial again of the Source Code. If you are unable to assist me please escalate my message to the appropriate authority capable of making the decision to comply with GPL.
Sincerely and Seriously,
hopefully, somebody who reads and speaks english will get your email..
nicely worded!

Yep. That's the source. I use it for my response to HTC when they reply that there is no set limit to release source.
sneaky....but hopefully effective!

Good luck with that sir. From everything I've ever heard about this, it seems that HTC thinks that a 60-120 day grace period is acceptable, and that's all there is to it.
By all means though, fight the good fight. I've just resigned myself to heckling their marketing team about it on Google +.
What you're doing is probably more "constructive" though...

Suprise... suprise they didn't call yet.
First, this not to compete with the original thread - just to make it a bit easier
Anyone interested in being involved in a group buy please post in this thread.
Chips will be USD 22.00 a piece - that already includes inbound shipping. Shipping will be out of the US (Colorado)
Shipping to you, please go to one of the US shippers and figure out yourself how fast you want the shipment .. aka how much do you want to spend in shipping.
US shippers: USPS.com, UPS.com or FedEx.com ... USPS letter 1st class worldwide is the least expensive, normally takes 7-10 days, costs about USD 2.00 - but is not trackable
I will "pull the trigger", close this thread on December 10th. Then enough time is left to get shipment out before Christmas.
To make the group buy work, we need to be at least 10 participants
Oskar
Shipping update:
worldwide shipping can be done by postal service as registered letter - that is full trackable. Total shipping cost $ 20.00

I'm in for one set. Here's hoping I don't brick the thing.
Yes Please! Put me down for one.
I am in for two sets
I'm also willing to participate but can't find any clear pictures on the forum to show my soldering guy and ask if he can fit it.
Can someone please give me a few pic's of the replacement of MTCD units? The module itself and where it must be soldered.
Sorry, guys but scrolled through all the pages...
Hello,
Unfortunately, due to some personal problems, i cannot participate anymore, please remove me from the list.
Thank you and good luck with the group buy !
Hi, on second thought, after looking into the SMD work required, please strike me from the list. I am not confident that I can perform the work and I do not know of anyone near me that can do it.
Can someone please give me some clear pictures of the work on a MTCD, I realy need to ask my friend if he can do the job before ordering.
