[Q] Can the Galaxy Player be Overclocked 1.2 ghz+

I hope you guys are having a pleasant evening. Well this is the question I would like to be answered. I believe that the Galaxy Player 4.0 USA is based off of the Galaxy S 1 (or GT-I9000).
Specs for the Galaxy Player (USA) are
Display- 4'' Super Clear LCD, WVGA (800x480)
CPU- Samsung Exynos 3110 (Hummingbird) 1GHZ
GPU- Imagination Technologies PowerVR SGX540 512mb Ram
Sound Chip (DAC)- Wolfson Microelectronics WM8994
Storage- 8GB (Expandable to 32GB)
Camera- Rear, 3.2 MP AF (Video Resolution max 720X480) Front, VGA
Wifi 802.11 b/g/n
OS- Android 2.3.5
Dimensions- (W x H x D)- 2.53" x 4.87" x 0.39"
Weight- 4.27 oz
Battery- 1200mAH
Specs for the Galaxy S 1 are
Display- 4" 16M color Super AMOLED, WVGA (800X480)
CPU- 1GHZ Cortex A8 Hummingbird
GPU- Samsung PowerVR SGX540 512 mb Ram
Sound Chip (DAC)- Wolfson's WM8994
Storage- 8GB/16GB (Expandable 32 GB)
Camera- Rear, 5.0 MP AF (Video Resolution 1280 X 720p) Front, VGA
Networks- 2G GSM 850,900,1800,1900
3G HSDPA 900,1900,2100
Wifi- 802.11 b/g/n, DNLA, hotspot
OS- Android 2.1 Eclair (Upgradable to Android 2.3.5)
Dimensions- 2.53" X 4.82" X 0.39"
Weight- 4.20 oz
Battery- 1500 mAH
As you can see with the exception of the screen, camera, battery and a bit of height/weight they are indeed very similar. I saw a video on youtube with a guy who overclocked his GS1 to 1.7 ghz. Also if you go look at AnTuTu Benchmark v2.8.2 the highest clock speed is 1.8ghz. This got me the thinking that it could be possible with the Galaxy Player 4.0. Any thoughts on this?

It's potentially possible, but not very practical. I've overclocked to 1.7GHz with my Samsung Galaxy Player 5 so far, but I wouldn't keep it at that regularly. I only overclock to 1.5GHz on a regular basis. Any higher is just dangerous and not worth the extra speed.
I'm probably going to scrap modding the SGP5 and just buy a Galaxy Nexus Tablet 7 since that will have more options for getting the most power out of it with the quad-core proc + more RAM, etc

Well if the 5.0 can do I'm sure the 4.0 can too. I was just wondering that's all. Also can you tell me what did you get in quadrant? The only thing about the Galaxy Nexus Tablet wrong is that there's no micro usb. To me that was a very bad move on Samsung's Part. It makes no sense imo.
I've had my 5.0 to 1.7ghz as well, but backed off because the players lack a cpu temp sensor. I run mine daily at 1.5 but I have no idea what the 4.0 is capable of.
If the 4.0 uses the Hummingbird CPU and it's rooted I believe the Tegrak Overclock can do the work.

ASUS makes the nexus 7 tablet. I think it is possible. Never done it and I don't see a reason to. The device is fast enough with 1 or even 1.2 ghz.

NONE of the 4.0 ROM's are default overclocked, as overclocking has more to do with the kernel then the ROM.
To the OP I run the terrasilent kernel on my 4.0 and use the app "no frills cpu" it allows for a 1.2 Ghz overclock and more importantly allows "apply on boot" for free, tegrak will go higher but you'll need to buy the ultimate version to do it and have it "apply on boot".
Yes I believe Hanthesolo Actually went up to 1.5GHz but even still if you flash a custom kernel it will by default run at 1.2GHz

Yes and No, yes Han has pushed his to 1.5Ghz but BY DEFAULT it's the stock 1Ghz NOT 1.2Ghz no matter what ROM or Kernel you run on the 4.0, you must use an APP to overclock, the kernels simply give you the ABILITY to overclock.
No Frills CPU will let you do 1.2Ghz and apply on boot for free
Tegrak will do 1.3Ghz but has to be manually applied for free
Tegrak Ultimate will go higher but you have to buy it

What model is that?
I´ve just ordered a "Samsung G357FZ GALAXY Ace 4", which has somewhat different HW:
Chipset - MSM8916 (Snapdragon 410)
CPU - Quad-core Cortex-A53 @ 1.2 GHz
GPU - Adreno 306
Battery - 1900 mAh
The rest seems to be the same.
---------- Post added at 11:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:21 PM ----------
Ok, there seem to be two models of Ace 4.
1. SM-G313MU, which is most likely what @ForumNinja wrote about.
2. SM-G357FZ, which is the Snapdragon model. Seems to be labeled as Galaxy Ace Style LTE on some markets.
Perhaps it would be a good idea to split at least the developement sections into two in order to prevent confusion. If there is going to be any developement at all

Thanks for the input:good:
I've been having trouble getting info on this device, many sources are quoting different hardware. It's most likely we will see two different models, as we have seen with the Ace 3, 3g and LTE. I'll update the thread with the relevant info when it becomes available:good:
@ForumNinja
Just found out that my model is marketed as Galaxy Ace Style LTE in several countries. In other words - Snapdragon Galaxy Ace 4 = Galaxy Ace Style LTE. Added it to my original post.

I just got mine here in Sweden. It's only called Galaxy Ace 4.
Specs for this is the same as on the Samsung website (UK site, but same specs as on the Swedish site: http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/mobile-devices/smartphones/android/SM-G357FZAZBTU)
So it seems that in UK the phone is called SM-G357FZAZBTU, but the swedish version is called SM-G357FZAZNEE (only last 3 letters differ).
The only problem I have now is to determine wheter I should sell this and keep my (CPU-wise) inferior Galaxy S2 or use this as my main phone and the S2 as backup...
(I got this for free )

Dropped it a couple of times. The metallic paint on the rim is slightly chipped but other than that, it's fine.

Rear camera: 3.2Mp, flash, non-autofocus
Front camera: VGA

And like @espinafre said, this is also an Ace 4 "Lite"
There's also a Galaxy V Plus which is not different much, just has a dual-core CPU (confirmed SC7727S)
