I have the SM-G925W8 5.0.2, was wondering if its possible to manually update to 5.1.1 on a different baseband?

No man. Since there is no firmware available for your device you would have to flash a different one and that's a big no no. It could brick your phone. Be patient. The wait is almost over.

Not quite. Canadian carrier, at least Rogers, told us 5.1.1 would be pushed in June. Turns out they pushed it back to September, confirmed also by Telus. I don't understand why our twin brother the Tmo variant got it and not us, Heck, they've even received other OTAs after 5.1.1

Like I said. Almost over. September is less than 5 weeks away. I'm personally in no rush to get 5.1.1 and lose Ping Pong which might explain our different perspective on time and it's relativity.

Pingpong or not, september is pretty far away if you consider all the bugs we have to live with for another month, at least, possibly 2 if its at the end of september. Anyways, i'm ditching my S6 and getting the Note 5. Regardless of 5.1.1, you cant fix a 2500mah battery with a firmware update...this is my first Samsung phone that I need to plug it in if I do anything other than go to work. Even with root, and greenify, and a bunch of frozen apps a features, and other optimizations, my battery will die during the evening if I don't charge it. I miss the note line, I think it's the best phone ever. The Note 4 was my favorite phone, battery life was stellar, not bug ridden on 5.0 like the S6, there were a wide veriety of roms, tweaks and mods available. If the Note 5 will be anything like the Note 4, but in an S6 style construction, it will be the summum of phones.

Yeah I had the note 4 too and it was an amazing phone. It's 10:36 in the morning and my battery is at 57% lol. The only difference with me is that I think I actually like the 5.2 screen better. I'm actually considering the next nexus 5.
Too many cons when you go from galaxy to nexus. Bad camera, bad battery life, the OS in general is snappier but lacking stuff I'd miss on touchwiz.

i have a zte grand x max+ now but who knows itf it will ever get root, so on this phone how is speaker quality is it loud?and the screen is it bright? and is the phone fluid opening and closing apps etc, after you root it to do some tweaks? thanks
as near as i can tell this would be superior to my Zte Grand x max+, they seem to be same both 720p display, same cpu&gpu, but the things that seem to me off hand would make it better is cpu is 1.2 on my Zte, and 1.6 on this, and this is rootable, but im still looking for opinions from owners of this phone
Phone is amazing. I am rooted with a bunch of xposed modules installed. No issues at all. Fast and smooth operation, and network speeds on MetroPCS are super-fast. I was skeptical about getting this phone, but I am super happy with it. Of course, the battery life is just insane. I don't use the speakerphone much, but when I do, it is plenty loud for me. The screen is beautiful as well. You can always get it from Amazon, they have a great return policy.
I second the suggestion of buying this from Amazon. That's what I did and my 30 day return window is almost up. But I am keeping this phone. I am also rooted and have Nova installed as well. The battery life just blows your mind. I do one long charge on the weekend and that's it. Maybe ten or twenty minutes charges once in a while.
Does it get pretty good cell signal? I'm looking to replace a Galaxy Note 2, which I recently dropped and busted. :crying:
I've been a Samsung user for a few years, but my Note 2 got crappy cell signal compared to the S3 that I replaced (on AT&T, btw, same number and sim card). I was looking at a used Note 4, but don't really feel like dishing out >$500 on a decent used one, and you still can't root the AT&T/Verizon versions, as far as I know. I know you can root the T-Mobile version, but still not too interested in spending the big bucks.
This one's been getting pretty decent reviews for a mid-tier phone, and I'm a fan of big screens (I like to read/watch videos a lot). This one looks like it would fit the bill. I think I just read that Huawei is going to release Android L (Lollipop?) some time in the first half of this year, so that's a plus.

Well, that gives me hope. I'm pretty sure my signal problems at home were phone related. Got decent signal on AT&T with my Galaxy S3 (which I still have), but when I switched to a Note 2, signal went down the toilet. And I would lose signal with regularity in any big box store (Walmart, Target, etc).
Anyway, ordered! I'm hoping some custom roms become available; I'm used to the plethora of choices available for the Samsung phones, hope I can play around with this one a bit.

Love it! I'm in school full-time and I don't have time to worry about the battery percentage, bringing chargers, finding outlets, etc. I need a phone that does everything I ask of it and lasts long as well. As for the specs, yes they aren't great, but it's still snappy and responsive. Almost on par with my sister's Nexus 5. Occasionally there are dropped frames or app crashes, but that's sadly typical of Android. Sometimes I get a bit annoyed with the size of the phone but that only happens when I wear slim or skinny jeans. No, I'm not worried about bending it!
The only real problem I have is with the software. Like I said, I just need a phone that works, and it does, but EMUI doesn't look nice. I could deal with it but the dreams of getting CM11 or CM12 on this make me a bit impatient.

We have a dev working on CM11 AND CM12, but he's been busy with work (*cough* Cyanogen) so there hasn't been progress lately. Also, thanks for reminding me about those big stores. I forgot, I DO lose signal in places like BJ's. I always thought it was because of the building itself though.

It is the building, also - those buildings have a lot of infrastructure between your phone and the cell towers, but some phones have better antennas than others. For example, my wife has an iPhone 5, and she gets a signal in them, while I'm staring at a crossed out circle for my signal indicator. And I don't remember completely losing signal with my S3 as I did with my Note 2, although I would lose a bar or two. I'm back using my S3 right now, since my Note 2 went tits up - I'll check it out next time I'm out and about.

Yeah, the UI is the main thing that had me hesitating. All of the reviews I've read about it list it as a negative - I know I can always install a different launcher, but those sometimes come with their own problems. I think the Android L release is supposed come with the 3.0 version of the UI. I haven't read much about it yet, but I'm hoping it's better than the current version. And, of course, I'll be a happy camper when CM11 or CM12 is released! Not too concerned about it in the interim, though, as I don't tend to get too crazy with the UI customizations.

No, just ordered one a couple of days ago from Ebay - should arrive this week sometime. I wanted something with a large screen, but wasn't interested in paying >$500 for a used Galaxy Note 4. The price point on this is great, and has a lot of decent features. I was looking at the OnePlus One, but it doesn't have expandable memory, something that's a must-have for me.
BTW, you'll probably need ADB and Fastboot - check out the link below:

Could it be that verizon got so hammered from the issues surrounding the S5 update they are holding off on ours till they know its good
Not likely. I see Lollipop updates are released for other phones even the Galaxy S4.
I see people posting about how they're ready to give up on this phone because of the lack of update for one important feature. TBH, I don't blame them since I blame this entirely on Verizon. Serious lack of support here, and they couldn't even shoot a minor update for VoLTE. I'm just enjoying what I can with my phone and I'm on a two year contract anyway. If I were given the choice, I'd be grabbing the Z3 or Note 4 instead just because of more options. Until then, I do solidly hope there's something we can look forward to for just an update since it's already May now.
Exactly, figured today would be some sort of update since it's may the 1st and Friday which typically good things are always on Friday, lol. Just extremely annoyed when I need to look something up when I'm on the phone and can't.

It's funny how terribly unreliable Verizon's own network info is to their own employees. First it's claimed we'll have VoLTE for Q1 2015, and we're in the middle of Q2. And all Verizon can say is subscribe to so-and-so link to receive updates.
Still no known info...
Now you see why "root" is so important, had we had root by now we would have a custom ROM of Lollipop at least.
Verizon always sucks when it comes to stepchildren phones (top tier phone but not of the brand Verizon wishes to push).
VoLTE will be just like all of Verizon's brilliant ideas, buggy, uses more bandwidth and works far worse than analog ever did, and no one actually asked for it.
Bombard Verizon with request until VZW gets tired of it, scream loud and scream long, only way VZW seems to listen. :good:
Yup I've been Facebook messaging Verizon every day about advanced calling. Just to bug them
so the tmobile version just received lollipop and again still no words from verizon and even the international xperia z received lollipop now. wtf!???

No they wouldn't have been able to port another lollipop rom over just because you have root. Normally this is all you need for most devices but with the Z3, devs need the update to be released first before they can make roms for it.
The T-Mobile Z3 has been rooted for about a month and still has not seen one custom stock rom. Reason being lollipop hadn't been released yet by T-Mobile

Like your optimism, thought I had read that when lollipop is rooted it needs a unlocked bootloader (Zygote was a temporary solution) cause you have to be able to flash a custom kernel to gain root, our phone's need an unlocked bootloader or we will be back in the same situation again, besides makes more sense to have an unlocked bootloader.

Pretty sure we just need a pre-rooted ftf. That is the way it worked with my Z2. As long as you have root and recovery you can flash the prerooted ftf without unlocking the bootloader.

Read the first paragraph of the PRF Creator thread
"What is a pre-rooted firmware
A pre-rooted firmware is a firmware, which already includes root. This is for example important if you want to update the firmware to a version, where there is no public root exploit. To flash a pre-rooted firmware, you need a recovery menu. An unlocked bootloader is not required."
Root is required to install the locked dual recovery, hence you need to be rooted already.
Hm, just a small say here. I flashed back to the shipped firmware that our phones came with from last year (still rooted), and I'm seeing for sure the battery doesn't die as quickly as the current firmware that's out today. What I'm trying to say here is, I hope Lollipop is designed for better battery efficiency for our phones that does have it achieve a 2-day battery life sort of deal. I don't know exactly what it is that the current firmware is making our phone die faster, but I hope Verizon does some right in it.
Plus, this is already halfway through June. Total bullcrap nonetheless about the lack of update anyhow.

I felt the same way. So I did a factory reset from stock recovery, set everything up again but left it on the .44 update. The only xposed module I am using is gravity box and I disabled sync for google calendar and changed exchange sync to every hour rather than push. I'm using stamina mode with Extended Stand by, Extended Usage and Stamina Clock enabled. I sync a few google items and my outlook email. Location services are normally disabled. I've barely used my phone the past couple of days so this speaks more to what I am getting with it in stand by but I've been off the charger for 52 hours and 35 minutes and am at 52% battery remaining. My standby drain is ~.5% per hour. Which is pretty good.
edit: I'm on a moderate LTE signal most of the time, and used wi-fi for a few hours.
The LG G3 is a wonderful phone but when it comes to updates I give it a grade of D-. It took months for the sync problem with WiFi to be fixed. Updates to 5 is behind schedule. Verizon blames LG for the problem.
As a consumer, I do not care who is to blame, I need a solution!
My next phone will be a Nexus phone. If Verizon cannot get me a clean version of the Nexus I dump Verizon and try Google Fi.
What's your feeling on the subject?

If you have grandfathered unlimited, I wouldn't dump that for a virgin carrier.
I have VZW unlimited, and just bought a G3 to replace my shattered Galaxy S4.
Was this a mistake to jump into the G3? I had root, open, generic wifi tether, and a pretty good overall situation with the SGS4, but wanted slightly more modern HW, better resolution and 3GB RAM.
If I go to CM 12.1, will that resolve some of OPs complaints?

Well, since you asked:
The updates to the G3 (including to v5.0) are underwhelming.
As a software developer for over 40 years, I'd like to see more testing before release, not less. Or would we like to be in the shoes of Apple users, who can't boot after an update?
Yes, I look forward to updates, but mostly out of curiosity.
Updates almost never include what I'd like to see added (or removed).
I don't worship my computing devices. I'm interested in what they can do, not the latest UI look (not that it's what you are looking for, but many are).

i also have verizon unlimited, I have been on skydragon 5.0/4.2 kernel for a while now. The wifi has been fixed, I love the phone, the camera is not an iphone camera (sadly, I think they win hands down on the camera), but it is still a great camera. I would recommend you install the hotspot mod from xdabbeb and look into the xcam lg 6.24 app (camera app, for stock roms though, personally, I like it over stock on the lg). I've never used cm, I sort of like stock roms (was on jasmine a long time before skydragon), but I think that you'll like the phone, I also have xposed installed. I haven't had ram issues at all, but I am not a gamer so not sure what your needs are. The 24b modem has been great for me once it was updated. On updates, yes, it has been slow coming from verizon (or lg), but mostly that is a stagefright type fix, and since lgg4 has launched, I just don't think that we are high priority on getting out those updates. I have hear "rumors" that our next update will not be until marsmallow, but they are just that...rumors. Hope you like the g3, personally, I love it.
Thanks, tmord1, that's very helpful information.
All I really want is a nice platform with minimal bloat, high performance and reliability, and the ability to wireless tether on LTE. I am an infrastructure systems and network administrator, so my concerns are along those lines: what makes a device fast, robust and capable, and if possible bypassing the cages that the vendors mandate.
I get my device delivered tomorrow, so I will look into the methods for root and TWRP install. I have unlocked and rooted many devices, going back to the Galaxy Nexus 1 and original Galaxy Tab. So, Odin and ADB don't' bother me.
:good:
If the camera is important to you, updating / patching to CM 12.1 will affect the camera. Apparently, LG camera driver is proprietary (for the laser focus, etc) and not available on ASOP roms.
I loved CM 12.1 on the G3, but I was unhappy with third party camera apps. I had to go back to stock for the camera.
It's a good phone, though.

The latest update 35b and especially the roms based on it like Jasmine 9.1 really improved the phone. I don't feel any need to upgrade devices and feel like the software is much improved even over the kitkat stock rom that I thought was a great start. Lollipop before 5.1.1 was problematic itself and you can blame Google for that.
Agreed 100% the 35 b update made a world of difference as far as speed. The phone is much faster than its ever been on any ROM imho. Btw, has any other carrier updated to 5.1.1?
I switched to liquidsmooth for a more up to date system.
Didn't know that about the camera, that explains why it's taking longer to focus now than when I was on JasmineRom.
Still a great phone.

If you haven't tried JasmineROM 9.1 or SkyDragon 6.x, you might want to give them a try. Both based on the new 5.1.1 stock and it runs really well!
Oh yeah, the 35b update made this feel like a different phone. Plus I don't see any other carrier updating the phone
I see....

We are talking the LG G3, not nexus phones and google fi, at least I am.
LG is still ahead of Motorola and HTC and only slightly below Samsung who is the fastest updating carrier after the nexus devices for having timely updates. I'm grateful I bought this phone after having the S3, as Samsung isn't messing around with allowing any more unlocked devices. Even the new nexus devices have efuses to check for phone modification to affect warranty and pay apps that are not reversible. Also you won't be getting a removable battery and sd card with another manufacturer on a new phone. The LG G3 is a pretty darn good device still to own in my book.

i believe you are a bit incorrect with your efuse analogy, its actually a Qfuse (on the 6p anyways).
post 1 and 2 here, should clear things up a bit for you.

just a heads up, google fi has nothing to do with nexus phones or updates, other than the fi carrier service can only be used on a nexus at this time, and possibly will never be expanded to non google devices.
I think software updates are a problem for any carrier android devices. Most have to wait a month to a couple for a update that an international device gets. This is so annoying. But something that's even more annoying is how most carrier devices come with bootloaders that cannot be unlocked or so locked up it takes month to find a way to bypass them. I had Galax s4 and I bought it once I knew TWRP could be installed. Then when the g3 was released I wanted it but waited until developers got TWRP working then bought my g3. I'm probably gonna keep my G3 until Cyanogenmod stops supporting it or it dies. What ever comes 1st.
Anyone know if this is likely to happen or if it is already happening for the Verizon variant of the Note II? Would be cool get on 6.0
We're still waiting for 5.x, let alone 6.x, lol. There have been rumors floating around for 5.x, but I'm not holding my breath.
marshmallow on note 2
Marshmallow wont come to note 2 and lollipop wont either. Samsung cancelled the development. so looks like Note 2 has reached its update limit. I think Nexus will be my next phone as they seem to be fast on new software updates.
Who needs um ?
Just run custom stuff. I'm on 5.1.1 right now and I'm sure it won't be long before 6.0 ROMs show up around here
People who are stuck on 4.2.2.

5.x ROMs are really buggy on the N2. And I've tried them all. Always kept coming back to 4.4.2.
Shame really. Note 2 is still, by far, an awesome phone.

Ditto. Even though I added a Note 5 the Note II is still awesome. Unfortunately, CM12.1 is still not 100% and it's even worse than I last tried about half a year ago. Along with existing issues like no mobile data until reselecting APN but there's now new graphics glitches during initial setup. Went back to 4.4.2 where it's 100%. Hope CM13 will be usable.

I meant a custom ROM, I know a stock update is never going to come. Samsung was initially planning on sending out a Lollipop update but then it just sorta fizzled out.
I got 5.1.1 in my note 2 (N-7100) and so its running really smooth. Can't really find any bugs...everything's been running perfectly. The only thing not working is the face detection in smart lock. Other than that its very good.
I'm constantly using 5.x (CM12) on my Note 2 for about 6 month now.
The development has reached a status which I can't complain about.
With Undervolting + Power nap I get awesome battery times and with the custom themes.
My Note 2 has so many scratches. The screen has many cracks (which are held together by a display protector) too.
It simply refuses to die.
With CM12.1 I love this piece of hardware ^^
some roms?
Hi I have the Nemesis Rom and I'm very happy, but since I discovered the CM13 6.0.1 for our notes I'm thinking to change.
The fact is I used most of the samsung features (Snote, scrapbook, etc) Is there any possibility to integrate them with CM13? If not do you recommend me another Rom better than Nemesis?
Just dreaming I guess. Thank you!
My wife has an S5. I bought one on ebay to replace her S4,but it's dreadfully slow.
It came with an older version of Android so it had to go through 4 or 5 OTA updates. It's current, and I gave it another factory reset before giving it to her.
She has had it for about two weeks and there are multi second delays between simple UI events that should happen in near real time. The phone is horrible. She hates it and I can see why.
I keep coming back to the upgrades. Is there any evidence there is a difference at runtime between taking multiple OTA updates, and going straight to the latest by flashing it directly?

Hmmm I'm not sure but my gf is having the same problem maybe the galaxy series just hates women xD jk ofc but her phone was fine up until she took the oj4 update try checking what her ram is also I'll link you to my thread about it and you can see if any of those suggestions help you
This one is for the potential problems.http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s5/help/extremely-slow-t3306089/page2
This one is for rooting it and what I did was I rooted it with just the stock stuff and then I deleted some of her bloat ware apps and deleted the cache and that seems to have worked when I play on OT but she still complains about it going slow so idk take it how ever you want too

It's not in your head. I recently upgraded from an S4 to an S5. My wife took my old S4. The S5 is just slow, I don't know why. On both phones, I've got them fully updated (5.1.1 on the S5, 5.0.1 on the S4) rooted, and de-bloated. The S4 is noticeably faster. We've actually tested them, side by side, and on any task the S4 is faster. I can't wrap my head around it.
The only benefit I got from upgrading to the S5 was a little bit better battery and a better camera.
S5 slow after updates
This is a noted issue with T-Mobile S5. There are pages of complaints @ T-Mo support site.

S5s updated to 5.1.1 are prone to much lag. Solution seems to be downgrade via Odin to 4.4.2 or root and custom ROM. CM 12.1 is stable and runs well with good battery life.
