Tips for better performance and battery life of your phone.
Hi guys. I have decided to reopen this thread and share some of my tips to you (thanks to forum moderator). You find here basic easy tips, but also something more difficult. I do this specially for less experienced users, so any suggestion from others I will appreciate.
So let's start!
For performance:
For non-rooted devices
So, here, I can suggest you only keep your device clean. That mean, unnistaling unused applications, clearing cache, close recent apps. I don't believe any ram cleaners/boosters, because in most cases, they slow devices by running like process, instead they're helpful.
For rooted devices
Here we have a really more possibilities but also keeping clean device is a best option. When you're rooted, you can removere bloatware, or some preinstalled apps, which you don't use (recommended app Link2SD). In Google playstore exist a lot useful apps to get more from your device. My favorites are Root Booster and Kernel Audiutor to set up your device. In addition, on xda exist a lot of good threads for G2 mini, which are helpful. To increase multitasking you can use virtual memory - swap (If this method didn't work for you, you should try THIS). But, best options below.
For rooted&unlocked bootloader&TWRP installed devices
IMPORTANT! - before any modification have nandroid backup!
If you get here without any brick, now you can get most of your phone. So, here you can flash mods/tweaks to increase your performance like L SPEED MOD or ABS (for me best mods). It's good to try some customs roms (find here) or also try good kernels, which support zram (in my opinion better than swap). Just, do some research!
For Battery life:
For non-rooted devices
I'm repeat myself, just keep cleaned your device. Here is important to have a fewest background process as possible. So try don't use battery hunger apps. You can find apps which are draining your battery (in settings or use app Wakelock detector) and at least disable them. From battery extended apps i can suggest you Greenify, which is in my opinion the best effective app for battery. But don't forget, battery also depends on your usage and your brightness level.
For rooted devices
Still remember, what i write above. Here is it similar like in performance section for rooted devices. What's more, in stock rom I recommended download app Kernel Audiutor and set your cpu minimum frequency to 300 mhz (don't forget to set on boot), because minimal frequency of stock rom is 787 mhz.
For rooted&unlocked bootloader&TWRP installed devices
Here I can suggest you this thread. Also Xposed with some modules can be helpful. When you have custom kernel, I recommended set governor in Kernel Audiutor on interactive (best) or conservative. Custom roms and kernels will be always good choice for battery life, just give a try!
PS: On XDA exist a lot of good mods for your phone, so just search them!
My results:
I get about 5 hours on screen with medium usage and two days battery life. Also I'm able to do pretty good multitasking ( For example seeing Facebook, chating, listening music without lags) and in Antutu Benchamark I get score about 22 000 .
If you have any ideas, suggestions, tips etc. , post it here!
I think, is everything, what i can give you.
I hope this was useful for you and it helps you.
Good luck, to get the most from your device!
Zdravo, brate, thanks for the advices but i have a question, my G2 mini restarts all the backgrounds apps for example if i write something in this window then switch lets say to chrome for 2 seconds the previous app just starts over. It's the only thing i hate about my g2 mini.

Hi that is wierd Do you do install something on your phone? For example some mod or app. Try find out it. Also, you can go to settings, developer options, scroll down and chceck your limit of background process Or find something, what could be wrong But be careful, what you change
I didn't even root it, i only have basic stuff, and i also didn't limit background processes. Same behaviour on both kitkat and lollipop, even with factory reset.

Hi everyone!
This is my first thread, so i hope that you will like it.
I do some reserach about perfomance and battery life, and i want to suggest you some tricks and advices.
Please read these instuctions carefuly, this is safe metod, but always can something happen. So, be careful. If you dont understand these insturctions, dont do this I'M NEW, SO LINKS DIDN'T WORK FOR ME SO I WILL NAVIGATE YOU. It's easy, don't worry
BETTER PERFORMANCE:
Lg g2 mini come with zram 215 mb, we will increase it to 380 mb using two files (98 swap data,98 swap system). This will help you to do better multitasking and you will have less lags. But dont forget, you are the boss of your phone, so if you don't take care about it, you will get lags. Of course, that you can get more zram using 98 swap cache file, but this didn't work for me.
What do you need:
1.root - I have d620r android 5.0.2 rooted with kingroot
2.busybox- download in google play
3.support init.d - in google write "uni init v1.0 apk" and download it from first link
4.root browser- download in google play
5.script manager - download in google play
6.scripts- write "uloz.to" in google and tap first link. Then search "98 swap file" (dont worry about this website, is verified slovakia download site )
7.diskinfo - download in google play
Instructions:
1. Make sure you are rooted.
2. Extract 98 swap file and put that two files on sd card. Also "uni init v1.0 apk" put on sd card.
3. Instal busybox, then reboot
4. install "uni init v1.0 apk" ,open it and install init.d folder, then reboot
5.install root browser, open it,give it root permissions, and make sure that in system/etc/ is init.d folder. If it exist, you're on good way.
6. use root browser and copy 97 swap data and 98 swap system to system/etc/init.d. Then hold finger on 97 swap data, find permisions and check all squares. Do same with 98 swap system.
7.install script manager, open it,give it root permissions (don't forget to tick browse as root) and go to system/etc/ init.d. open 97 swap data and tap on "su" and "boot" and check "is executable" and then, tap on "run". Do same with 98 swap system. Then reboot.
8 install diskinfo app, open it, and if you have swap 380 mb, congratulation, you succesfully increase performance of your phone But dont UNINSTALL script manager, because after that, scripts wont works.
Also, i recommended app seeder and link2sd (remove bloatware).
BETTER BATTERY LIFE:
Also exist some scripts for that, but i don't testet them yet
What do you need:
1. Greenify - download in google play
2.Kernel auditor - download in google play
3. Wakelock detector - download in google play
Instructions :
1. Instal wakelock detector and find out which apps are drain your battery.
2 Install Greenify and hibernate some "battery hunger apps" or uninstall that apps.
3 Install Kernel auditor and set up cpu frequencies to max 1190 mhz and min 384 mhz. Set these settings on boot.
4. Than go to cpu hotplug and uncheck it. (set frequencies will work)
Also, I recommended close recent apps.
You are done. I hope that this thread helps you.

Hi, I really don't know why. My g2 mini work as swiss watch... Try install Lg pc suite to your computer and in right corner find "mobile" and run something like "repair mistake of actualization".

it's better to use cache partition instead of system or data because Cache has 900 MB where like 15mb are just used

hi yes, you've right, lags phone, but only when swap file is on sd card. This is swap file in internal memory, so speed of read of this swap is fast. Reactions of phone are improved and also multitasking I get better score in antutu benchmark too (19234) You have'right about swap cache but this didn't work for me, so you can try it

let me correct myself: it does not lag, it was just minute after reboot so that's why it could lag.
i got 600mb swap in cache so now i got 300mb for cache.
works like a charm, i recommend this af

Hmmm, i don't know, i don't have that problem, after reboot, iam able to use my mobile phone after aproximmately 30 seconds. Of course, that system must loading applications and other things, so it takes some time, but that is noting horrible, isn't it? Yes, swap in cache is really good, maybe is better, but iam repeat, this didn't work for me. When i run script 98_swap_cache_file_v300, a get some error about swap.img.
I have swap 380 mb and it is far better than 215 mb.

Hey guys,
I love my 101it and can't wait for full root.
in the mean time I've been using z4oot like everybody else.
But since yesterday that stopped working for me.
I've been running z4root and it said that temp root has been granted.... but it hasn't.
I've tried rebooting. Enabling and disabling USB debugging, but nothing works.
I feel like I'm skipping some stupid step.
Anybody has any idea?
Thanks!
Check free memory using ATK or any other app killer. My Z4 was giving me the same issues till I fixed the free memory. My issues started when memory went below 49MB. So I uninstalled some apps and no issues so far.
Some said that you need more space for it (100MB free out of 300MB).
Some also said that it only works after they moved all their apps back to the 300MB storage after they used app2sd (and may or may not have uninstalled it before they rooted).
Some said clearing the data/cache of and reinstalling superuser/z4root worked for them.
Also, once you got it rooted, don't reboot, use hot reboot to keep your root while booting.
For me, I haven't tried the second solution, and I had to reinitialize the entire system... Thankfully appmonster backup, titanium backup, and appbrain sync makes it easy to reinstall all the apps I had.
Thank you guys.
I was able to release 78mb on my internal, cleared data and cache on both but its still not working.
I would consider formatting but since I have no root I can not backup using TB...
Ill try to clear more space later and retry.
Will post results here.
Any other ideas?
Thanks!
Consider backing up with appmonster, swiftp, usb, appbak (list of app, if app monster don't do that already), and appbrain (for quick reinstall).
I believe appmonster let you backup apks, and app list. And with appbrain, you can just copy your synched app list to the new install and tell it to install them.
I had the same problem before and as MoonPhantasm suggests... moving all apps back to the phone from internal storage let me root again. Give that a shot.
The problem is that I have way too many Alps to keep in the measly 256mb on this device...
I ended up formatting the device and now it works.
lets see how long I can go without a full reboot
Thanks all.

There is over 300 MB for "Alps" on the device unless you move them to SD in which case there is nearly 8 GB. There is 256 MB of RAM which only comes into play when you swap applications to background. Formatting is like swatting a fly with a grenade launcher but then if you don't know RAM from flash...
I'm finding the tablet pretty responsive without upping the CPU limit but I would prefer a more clear and workable solution than formatting every time I reboot.

I have autocorrect to thank for the "Alps"
I agree - there are 300mb for apps, but I use a lot of apps on my device, and some are rather big (it adds up) and most of these unfortunately do not allow to move to SD Card. I can force some of them to SD using Titanium Backup, but then again once I go under a certain threshold I cannot root and therefore cannot use TB.
I would love to have more than 300mb for apps. It seems kind of stupid that out of 16GB on the device they partitioned only 300mb for apps.... Unless I am missing something... in which case please feel free to correct me.
I do appreciate the opinion though.
Ohad.

You have to remember that the folks that frequent these boards are not the typical end-user. I had read that the average user installs 8 apps. I have 64, and you are probably around the same high number. The space allocated to the system apps area is not available for content storage, so to most users even the 300MB seems like too much wasted space.
I got 90 apps installed myself, and only have about 30-40MB free right now. Was full for a bit, before I uninstalled a few things... :/
It is pretty ridiculous to only have 300MB for app, when there are 8GB total space. My first time reaching that limit shocked me quite a bit.
About average users installing 8 apps, that sounds impossibly low. Over time, even average users are going to accrue quite a lot of apps. I don't think average users are good at 'uninstalling' things that they don't use til they have to.
Had the problem too and some of it was due to app2sd. Plus, apps keep disappearing when using app2sd, so this feature, one of the most important of froyo, isn't working at all.
Read in another forum that it might be a good idea to first stop all apps by using TaskControl or a similar task manager, before trying to root.
I can't seem to get Z4 to work at all now after doing the firmware update. Tablet seems a lot more stable than it was before the update but would still like to be able to use setCPU to bypass the CPU lock.

In the latest patch they fixed the options that were allowing temp root. This was mentioned in other posts. Right now there is no root for this device.
Faldiin
Instructions I use to root my A70 IT 8 GB
Hello,
I've been using z4root on my A70 IT 8 GB, since I discovered the ping command requires root access on the Archos Gen 8 line. In the meantime, I found additional reasons to use root mode, such as:
1) MyBackupPro supports root mode for full application and data backup.
2) Swap to increase the memory on these 256 MB devices. While swapping to a SD Card isn't a good idea, I'm looking to do it on the 250 MB version.
3) 1 Ghz fix, which once I can go to the 2.0.71 firmware won't be necessary.
4) Run applications that use the ping command.
I'm using these instructions for running z4root on my system. They assume you already have z4root installed on your system. As for validating rooting was successful, there are a couple of ways on the Archos Gen 8 devices:
1) Run setCPU
2) Run the Terminal Emulator and try to use the su command. If it exists you're golden, if not then it failed.
Steps I use:
1) Let the boot process complete, but don't start additional commands.
2) Make sure USB Debugging is on and (if you want) see if there is at least 100 MB of storage left.
3) Start z4root
4) Select temp root
5) Confirm the notice about USB debugging. If it doesn't appear, something isn't right.
6) z4root will take you to the settings. At this point select development from the opened settings, disable and then enable USB debugging. Confirm the message about USB debugging.
7) Return to the home page.
8) Go back into settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> All Applications (tab). Go to the bottom of the list, find z4root and select it. Once there you need to:
8A) Do a Clear Data. This is important.
8B) If z4root is running do a Force Close.
8C) Return to the home screen.
9) Start z4root again.
10) Select temp root and in 5 seconds or so you should see a White flash and the text on the screen should change to say the application is finishing up.
Allow it to finish. See notes below should these steps fail to produce temporary root.
z4root will tell you it was successful whether it was or not. I don't know why. At least on the Gen 8 line checking is as simple as seeing if the "su" command exists on the system. If it does, you're golden and if not then something failed and you can't access root.
To validate success, I'll use one of the following methods:
TERMINAL EMULATOR: Start the Terminal Emulator application and issue the "su" command. If this fails, you don't have root. (Note: If this is the first time running terminal emulator in root, you'll get a message asking to give your permission for terminal emulator to have root access. If the message fails to appear, you don't have root. Again this is the first time only.)
setCPU: Start setCPU and if it is the first time ever using the command, run the Device Selection choosing "Autodect Speed Recommended." If you get a screen asking permission to add setCPU to the list of application, you're golden. If you don't get the prompt or setCPU says it failed to get root, you don't have root.
Subsequent times you use setCPU and adjust the maximum speed, you'll see a message flash on the screen about setCPU gaining superuser permission. This message is from the Superuser application. NOTE: You may see the message even before you adjust anything on subsequent uses of setCPU during the same session.
TROUBLE SHOOTING z4root:
Should z4root fail, you should try it a second time after doing a Clear Data and Force Close. If this fails, do a reboot and try again.
Should it fail all the above retries, I go back to square one. I'll uninstall it, download it again from XDA-Developers, and install it with reboots between each step. I have yet to have this last method ever fail on me.
Typically, though, I don't need to go beyond a second try with a reboot.
Should it again fail, my best success has been to uninstall z4root, reboot, reinstall, reboot, and then follow the instructions.
Good luck and hopefully your mileage will be as good as mine.
If you hear of a version working with firmware 2.0.71, please, let me know.
BGMArchos,
i'm not sure to understand you... you have root your 70it with which firmware ?
not the latest firmware. He said once he can go to the .71 firmware the 1GHz fix from rooting wont' be necessary.
But I find unrootable android device pretty ridiculous. I'll be trading this archos for another device at this rate.
I am sure perm root will come, it's just a matter of time.
Btw what alternative is there for the archos in its price range.
I use the 71 firmware and i am pretty happy with the archos at the moment.
When root comes it will just get better.
But for now I can live without root.
Biggest improvement in think is the way it handles the ram. I don't need to kill any tasks anymore like before. That was one of the most annoying things about the tablet.
Not like it was really much of an issue. You can always reboot every a while too as it reboot pretty fast.

IN THIS ROM WE SHOULD HAVE JIT ENABLEAD OR DISABLED?
Leave jit enabled, it gives you the best overall performance. If you play a lot of games its ok to turn it off. I leave it on all the time. If you need to save battery you can also try to turn jit off. Resizing jit heap takes a bit of battery

Is it better to use move to sd feature on the rom or link2sd app?
Sent from my U20i using XDA App
Hi,
I was able to install TheMyth Beta 2 full with the help of the instructions on the following pages:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1376039
However now I am unable to perform step no. 6 listed on the website and I wonder what is wrong.
Here is the step 6:
"Step 6: After u finish with Tweak manager, continue to open A2SDGUI.
+ Enable Swap and Zipalign.
+ Open 2nd tab and select "sd-ext". "
I was able to select Enable Swap, and my Ace accepted this command. However when I try to activate Zipalign, it goes back to disable in few seconds.
Also when I try to select sd-ext and choose Move, then it gives me an error saying "Not Enought space left"
What is going on here? I am worried because I do not know how important are these steps.
Thanks,
Aashishbhargav
Then disable swap , don't use it
Herpderp DXKPB.
How much MB do u use for ext and swap?
Thanks for replying. AS2DGUI automatically tries to set swap at 65 but then it fails to do so.
I have 56 MB of internal memory free out of 178 MB of total space. Is this the cause of the problem? Most Apps refuse to move to SD from internal memory.
I am new to android. Need Help..
Thanks in advance.

Hello All,
Thanks for all your help. I am keeping the swap disabled for the moment. If I format the Sd Card, do I have to flash and install ROM again?
Here are some other issues (probably known by now):
1) Google search widget does not work.
2) On opening browser and typing something directly in the address bar does not search the string entered. It just opens google.com
3) Music App in Devil King's old ROM was great. This one does not appear to be that cool. And there is one bug. On clicking on a song in the playlist, it appears to play, you can even fast forward, rewind it with the scroll bar. However the song which appears to be playing is different than the song that is really playing. I checked multiple songs, same issue, always.
4) I calibrated my battery, but the battery seems to last for only 9 hours, with facebook and email sync active in the background. And less than one hour of phone call and 5 minutes of internet browsing. I am not sure if this the ideal battery life of a 4 months old Ace.
5) On selecting an email in Gmail, Archive, Delete and Labels buttons pop up, but contrast on the buttons is such that the text is not clear.
Looking forward to get rid of all these issues in the final release.
Thanks
Aashish
Since I keep getting msgs from people asking me how I have optimized my Xperia S for less lag and such, I thought I would make a thread teaching others all I know. First a little background info.
I have used a HTC Hero for 3 years before I got this phone, so I know a few things about optimizing and getting the most out of old hardware. This means that I am quite versed in memory management, deleting unneeded apks and proper overclocking for maximum effect and battery life. I hope to install my knowledge upon others so we can stop getting noob threads like "I have less than 1gb of ram" or "ICS lags so I am going back to gingerbread, you suck Sony!".
Before we start, if you have used any of the older kernels with old CWM versions, those versions of CWM can bork your data or system. This leads to root issues, apps still showing after clearing, unable to mount partitions in CWM and any other number of issues. To fix this i recommend flashing a stock Sony ICS firmware, then fastbooting the latest version of Advanced Stock Kernel. This will give you a nice clean slate to work with. Also you can make a backup of stock firmware to roll back to if you have problems.
Now off to the races.

Memory Management/Free Ram - Many many people complaining about free RAM just don't understand how it works. In any efficient modern OS (Windows 7, ICS) free ram is wasted ram. I theory you should be using your free space to preload resources you might possibly be needing or using them to run a variety of apps and such. The only time where you would really need a large amount of free RAM would be when you want to play a game/ use an app which requires a larger amount of memory than is normally required. Sometimes Android will have a problem freeing up this required space which can lead to lag/freezing or even a reboot. If you don't play a ton of games, then don't worry about having a ton of free RAM. Secondly, more lag is created by the OS needing to resart an app or service (ie Home launcher) than if it needs to kill an app to free RAM. This is why you get Home redraws which lag for a split second, because the OS has killed off the home and it is restarting it. So less free RAM generally means less lag.
PS. Android takes up space for the system and this space is not shown on the ram usage screen. This means that if you have a device that says 1gb of RAM, the free RAM may show only 600mb. Don't freak out, this is normal all devices have it though it varies depending on skinned versions of android and which android version it is using (ie ICS uses more ram than previous versions).
How to fix Android Memory Management - Android memory management has made massive steps forward from how terrible it used to be, but it is still not optimal to say the least. We can help fix this by running a script by our not so friendly XDA member Zepplinrox.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276
Go to this link and read everything that you can comprehend before reading my explanation. This can be tricky and can force bootloops so make sure you back up with Nandroid.
Step Zero - Get script manager off the market. Run as root
Step One - Download the kit and the latest Supercharger Script
Step Two - Run the kit, generally on the ROMS i have tried at least, you dont need to install a new busybox or root version so skip those.
Step Three - Run the auto mode in the script or Download the automatic patcher which patches your smali files and pushes over the new services jar required for locking the home in memory. (alternatively you can do it the hard way with the smali patcher script but I dont recommend it)
Step Four - Run the script and read through things. It should make sense but ask me if you need help.
Step Five - Clean and Reboot. Sometimes it can freeze on first boot, hold vol up and power to restart. This latest script is still in testing so you may have issues but it is certainly better than the original setup.
I love the Sh1t out of supercharging and have used it for years.
Supercharging is really easy on KA17 as the services.jar is already ready to go. Just run the script which fixes oom memory settings and you are done. Dont forget to clean and reboot.
Follow-up- Run a flush engine option in the script which will then create a quick launch script in V6 supercharger directory. Put this on a schedule to run every few hours and you wont have to worry about rebooting your phone as much. Run it as superuser.
Want even less lag? - Delete any unneeded apk files either with a root explorer or Titanium Backup. This way you wont have apps you dont use fighting for memory and cpu. I delete powersaver and the exchange client as I dont use either. Other roms may have much more.
Kernel - Your kernel and kernel settings will make a huge difference in the feel of the device. I recommend XSX v6 (doesnt have crappy CWM). Set it to 1876-30 hotplug and try things out. Not every chip is the same so they all wont run great. My Hero hated the max frequencies, but my Xperia S will take all the way up to 1900 just fine. Choose a scheduler, I use deadline, but CFQ or noop are good too.
Thanks for the helpful info
Btw which setting do you use in the superscript? Aggressive, balanced etc?
does the new v6 supercharger script patch services.odex automatically? because 'im using stock .45 rom, and it is odexed which made it a lot harder to patch in the past
in the past i did the smali edits myself but i just couldn't be bothered doing it with every new stock ICS release

Use the windows patcher or there is a new auto patcher that works pretty good integrated. Check it out.
Windows Patcher for some reason doesnt work for me :/ Btw, which auto patcher are you talking abt? Is it in the script? Which number config?
Btw, if I use a deodexed ROM such as KA ROM, do I have to follow the same steps or are there fewer steps compared? Thanks

Hmm, the windows patcher works good for me. Try the ICS center in the latest version of the script. I use KA rom and have no problems. If you need to I can post an edited services.jar file, but try and see if you can get it to work yourself first.
When I try to run the script it says missing essential tables, what does that mean? Running it without root works until, it asks for root
EDIT: If it is about the starter kit, I have successfully used it

Its probably the stock .45 version. Stock roms can be notoriously difficult to supercharge. I use KA12 and havent had any problems beyond a couple root problems caused by the XSX version with the bad ramdisk.

What is ParrotMod?
This is a mod to greatly improve the performance of the 2012 Nexus 7, on ANY rooted Android 4.3+ ROM.
It doesn't work on Nougat. I can't fix it, because I don't own this device anymore - I gave it to a friend's little brother.
Feel free to fork it and fix that.
(Got a 2013 Nexus 7? Use this version: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nex...eta-1-parrotmod-improve-2013-nexus-7-t3375928)
Download:
https://parrotgeek.com/dl.php?file=ParrotMod_Universal_2016-08-31.zip
Use this one if the other one doesn't improve the speed: https://parrotgeek.com/dl.php?file=ParrotMod_Universal_2016-10-17.zip
GitHub:
https://github.com/parrotgeek1/ParrotMod_Nexus_7_2012
Feel free to fork/pull request! But always credit me if you make something based on it and tell me in a PM or email.
IMPORTANT NOTE
ParrotMod needs 8MB of free space on the system partition. Don't use huge gapps packages.
ParrotMod requires a recovery that has BusyBox built in. (All versions of TWRP do. CWM does not.)
PLEASE disable IO scheduler/RAM/read ahead tweaks in kernel apps. They override ParrotMod's meticulously optimized settings.
REQUIRES LATEST SUPERSU INSTALLED FIRST https://download.chainfire.eu/supersu-stable
EVEN IF YOUR ROM HAS BUILT IN ROOT LIKE CYANOGENMOD, TURN IT OFF IN SETTINGS, THEN FLASH SUPERSU!!
Does NOT support PHH/MagiskSU, ONLY SUPERSU
If the installer warns you about TRIM on boot being disabled, it's a good idea to schedule TRIM using an app like Trimmer, or just leave your tablet on overnight (on silent) instead of turning it off, so it can automatically trim.
You can tell if ParrotMod is working by checking if the file /sys/block/mmcblk0/queue/read_ahead_kb contains "0", using a root explorer. Do NOT use ROM Toolbox or Root Browser, otherwise you will not be able to see the folders. Use Solid Explorer or FX.
Features:
FLASH MEMORY SPEED INCREASE! up to 4x better performance WITHOUT F2FS OR DYNAMIC FSYNC
Auto trim at boot, but ONLY for Samsung flash storage (it is too slow for Hynix/Kingston)
Uses ext4 but can use data/cache f2fs
Audio stutter and multitasking fix
Miracast enabled (but it freezes on disconnect unless you unplug from the receiver end)
Can set up device without Wi-Fi
Bluetooth 4.0 enabled (BLE/GATT/SMP), CVE vulnerabilities fixed (for 5.x)
More apps open at once (minfree tweak, scheduler tweaks, 64k log buffers, zram optimized)
LCD color fix (no Nvidia smartdimmer/Prism)
Internet optimizations
Can use more storage space before it doesn't let you download things
Survives ROM updates with addon.d
Tethering without carrier checks on 3G Nexus 7
Speed up full disk encryption
GPU optimizations (without OC!) and hardware acceleration properties, decrease GPU RAM usage by 4.4mb per app!
Reverted to dlmalloc for reducing ram usage / ART_USE_HSPACE_COMPACT enabled for better garbage collection [Not on 5.0.x]
Instructions - From unrooted stock 5.1.1
Download the KingRoot apk from here on your tablet, install it, ignore the warnings about the app being unsafe, and tap Root. If it says root failed, try again. It will eventually work.
Install Flashify from the Play Store
Download the latest Universal zip in the download link above on your tablet
Download the SuperSU zip from https://download.chainfire.eu/supersu-stable on your tablet
Open Flashify and install TWRP recovery, the latest version
Open the KingRoot app, tap Menu 3 dots icon, General settings, uninstall KingRoot
Delete the KingRoot and Purify apps
Plug your tablet into a computer! (not even a charger) otherwise it will freeze on the next step. This is a bug in the tablet itself.
Reboot your tablet while holding the power and volume down buttons. If this does not work power on while holding BOTH volume UP and DOWN.
Scroll with volume buttons to Recovery mode and tap power button
You will see a Google screen and then TeamWin logo, just wait
Tap Never show this screen again and Swipe to allow modification
Tap Install
You will see the files on your internal storage, go to Download folder
Tap on ParrotMod_XXXXXXX.zip
Tap add more zips
You will see the files on your internal storage, go to Download folder
Tap on UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.XX.zip
Swipe to confirm flash
When it finishes installing tap Reboot System
Your tablet will reboot
Wait 30 seconds for the device to settle
Enjoy the improved speed! (You can delete ParrotMod_XXXXXXX.zip now)
Extras
Fix for speaker/headphone buzzing while charging: https://parrotgeek.com/dl.php?file=ParrotMod_ChargingNoiseFix.zip
Upgrade notes
It is safe to flash new ParrotMod versions without wiping data.
IF YOU UPGRADE MAJOR ANDROID VERSIONS YOU MUST WIPE SYSTEM, FLASH THE WHOLE ROM, AND REINSTALL PARROTMOD.
UPGRADING ROM BUILDS WORKS FINE! In ROMs with addon.d support, it will even keep ParrotMod installed.
Please don't use with ParrotMod:
L Speed/any other "supercharger" like tweaks. I will ignore any support requests if you use them. Most are very badly programmed/full of placebos.
Disable journaling zip (it conflicts with my script, and doesn't improve performance)
Don't limit background processes, it might even make the tablet SLOWER. As of version 2016-04-30, the installer script removes this setting from build.prop automatically.
Known Bugs
Doesn't work on most Nougat ROMs
Miracast will freeze the tablet on disconnection unless you disconnect from the TV/dongle side. This is a common Tegra issue.
The optimizations to the ART runtime do not work when Xposed is installed, and you will see reduced performance! They also don't work on 4.4.x or 5.0.x.

Thanks
Thanks to bangsergio on XDA for testing several dozen beta versions.
Thanks to @nereis for showing me a zram tweak.
How ParrotMod Works
ParrotMod works by trying to counteract the slow flash storage speed, by decreasing unnecessary reads and writes, and also optimizing how well processes share the bandwidth.
To optimize RAM, it also changes minfree values, replaces libart and libc with optimized versions (reverting to the memory allocator that was in 4.4.4), and enables zram (but in a less CPU intensive compression mode).
It also enables GPU clock scaling instead of throttling based on CPU speed, to improve performance in GPU-bound games. It also disables Nvidia PRISM adaptive backlight to fix washed out screen in videos.
It increases the CPU priority of audio players, and the hd-audio0 kernel thread, to fix sound stutter when multitasking.
Finally, it increases wifi transmit power and noise filter in nvram.txt to increase wifi range.
I also made my own patch to enable Miracast.
Looks nice :3 Sounds like a very good ROM for newbies, I'd be happy if you'd do the same ROM with the 3.4 kernel when it comes out and CM13/Android 6.0 AOSP.

Maybe if I have beta testers. The Nexus 7 is now in the hands of its (much happier) original owner. Almost all of the mods in this zip except /system/lib and mira4u apk should work M though. Also probably tilapia if you remove the assert in updater script which I will do soon
To make it even simpler for newbies, why not use Wugfresh to root from stock 5.1.1? It's so much easier than your method.

Is this a rom or a simple mod to install over stock lollipop, because the downloadable zip only has 13mb?

It's a mod because my internet is too bad to upload the whole rom. Uploading this takes 7 min

Doesn't that erase data?
[This post was for a test feature which has been merged into the mod]
well this is my personal experience with this rom
coming from virgin unrooted, locked bootloader, never been into the darkside with my given by best friend nexus 7 (2012 and 16gb)
always OTA updated until 5.1.1
can't stand with lag and everythings else.
a litte bit google and found this thread.
so i factory reset my nexus
download parrot rom (saved in download folder)
download kingroot (saved in download folder too)
install es file manager from playstore, browse to download folder, install kingroot
running kingroot
download super SU
install flashify from play store
running flashify and choose recovery, choose TWRP, download and flash TWRP. after finish press back button
uninstall kingroot and purify
reboot into recovery (power off first. power on while holding BOTH volume UP and DOWN) until boot screen appear. -in firstpost say just power and vol down, well is not working for me. i have to hold both volume keys.
in TWRP recovery backup my current rom (just in case no body knows whatt would happend in the future)
after that select install
select parrot
add super SU
and waitt........
viola everything running smooth as butter. no more delay.
will stay in this rom for now.
just hoping may be in the future just add playstore. so we can download everything else we need and no redundancy.
thank you for your effort making this rom

what? do you mean delete more preloaded google apps? If so, I'm maybe thinking about replacing Play Music with Eleven or Shuttle, and add motorola camera and gallery instead of google photos, and CM12.1 browser & also viper4android

Try to rapitly insert and erase the charger few times. That works for me.

I am on Orion rom.
thanks.

Yes, if you open the zip and delete the contents of /system/priv-app and /system/app. Also delete any thing in the updater script that has delete(...) or delete_recursive, and the line in the patch prop.sh that has lmy47v in it. Then rezip
if you use it on marshmallow it will bootloop unless you delete libstagefright_wfd and libMira4U. But then miracast won't work
If your rom has stagefright fixed delete libstagefright_EVERYTHING-BUT-wfd.so and libutils and libcutils
I'm going to make a universal version later, sorry
EDIT: you have to flash SuperSU even if your rom includes built in su

Sorry for OT. I know this issue and I know how to resolve it. It's a problem with the flat cable of the micro USB port. With a little tear down you can resolve the problem. Take off the back cover, screw the speakers and USB board, detach flat cable and put a piece of transparent tape above it in order to make more pressure on pins. Reassemble all the components and take a look if the problem still here
Interesting.
Cam I flash this over my already rooted device from or will I need to start from scratch again.
