Custom ROM doesn't detect SIM - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I am currently using i9300 with ArchiDroid 3.1 but the weird thing is my SIM cannot be detected by the OS. I tried flash the stock ROM and the SIM is detected, thereby eliminating faulty sim. Both IMEIs on both OS is correct btw, eliminating efs problem perhaps?
So what else is causing my SIM not be detected?
Thanks.

I just realized other ROMs like MIUI doesn't detect my SIM as well, only reverting to stock ROMs (which I made a TWRP full backup) works. Can I know what is the reason, sorry I am new at this.
EDIT: Is it possible a efs.img works on stock ROM BUT refuse to work on custom ROM? I am using kTool to perform the efs backup btw.

[Q] Strange problem with GT-I9300

I have a problem with a Samsung Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300) which belongs to a friend.
He wanted Lollipop on the device so I flashed an Unofficial CM12 from here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/development/wip-cyanogenmod-12-t2936990
However he seemed to be experiencing some bugs with the ROM so he wanted to revert to stock ROM until more stable builds arrived.
I flashed the stock ROM 4.3 obtained from SamMobile but on this the SIM wasn't working. Same results were obtained by official 4.0 and 4.1.
I finally decided on the official CM11, grabbed the latest stable build and tried flashing it. But now the ClockworkMod recovery returned 'Status 7'. Repeating the process with device id verification removed gave 'Status 6'.
To get the device in working condition I had flashed Korean Service ROM by Samsung. This is working with the SIM card with a few bugs.
One other curious observation was while copying the CM11 to the internal memory. The copy window was dismissed before the green copy bar reached the end. I had to flash it with an external SD Card which seemed to have normal copy process.
This entire process has been repeated on a different PC with all fresh downloaded ROMs but gave the same results as before with the only exception of SIM recognition but no signal on CM12.
Any help would be appreciated to get the device working normally.
Hi,
but "SIM wasn't working" means that your phone is like a phone without SIM?
I had the same problem in the past with my old i9100 and in that case the problem was the non correct baseband (radio) and RIL (Radio Interface Layer).
If this is your case, you can try to flash the correct modem (it depends from your model and firmware version) from recovery or using Odin. First backup EMS folder (IMEI folder)...
I had the SIM inserted. And the modem is okay because the official firmware was of my country.

I understood that the SIM is insered but the phone is without signal as you haven't... so probably the problem is modem or corrupt EMS folder...
Now you are running stock firmware or CM?

No IMEI No Baseband no sim read

I recently purchased a HTC one M9 that had CellCom service but it worked with my Verizon nano sim card. I have s-off and am supercid i flashed verizon htc one m9 mm firmware had to be supercid before it let me do that. It booted fine but i noticed it wouldn't read my sim card so i installed twrp and RR N custom rom hoping it would fix it but it didn't. I now have unknown IMEI, Unknown IMEISV, unknown baseband, unknown Bluetooth address. Anyone know of a way to fix this where all my stuff will show again and it will read my sim card again? Everything else works on it wifi, camera, audio, ect. Please any help will be needed. I tried flashing the stock firmware that came with the phone from CellCom but after it flashes it gets a bootloop. That is through the sd card method in download mode of the 0PJAIMG.zip file.

I am not sure but try to flash stock rom which includes modem image.
OR
Flash the original firmware. (Which was installed when you received your phone)
Ok thanks. Think it would be better to try to flash in fastboot instead of using the sd card method?

Yes. If you know how to flash in fastboot mode then flash it in that way.
Same thing happen to me, its very simple to fix it, just download your phone's modem and flash it via Recovery, And thats all, make sure the modem is for ur device, else its ain't gonna work.......

Phone dont recognize Sim Card on both Slots.

Hello Guys, i have a problem with my RMN3 (Kate).
After i woke up and went to work my Phone doesnt recognize my Sim without any reason. I was on Custom Rom (MokeeRom) for maybe 5 weeks.
Didnt flash anything or played with the rom itself. It just wasnt working after night.
Maybe someone had the same problem or have an idea to solve this problem without flashing stock rom?
I tried to restore all my backups, flashed firmware, clean flash, switched sim Slot 1 and Slot 2.
Downloading Stock Rom right now an will flash it, if there wont be a solution.
Problem solved. my sim card is broken wihtout a reason. strange...

Sim card slot problem.

When downloading a rom with flashtool, a download error popped up, after 2 trials, the rom went on normal only he can not see the slots of the sim cards anymore. I tried with different roms and flashtol and the same, I had a backup copy of the rom and restored also does not see sloto sim. Is it still possible to revive the phone?

Hey,
Are you certain that you flashed International // EU version firmware with MSM? I'm pretty sure if you're EU, and flashed International, there might be issues with Data providers
i flashed the global version this phone originally was the 1910 Chinese version. would it not have something to do with the efs partition or modemst? ive had a similar issue before on a different phone model it was easy to fix but i just dont know what to do with this one.
if anybody could maybe spare there modem.img files or anything regarding the telephony state that would be so amazing. i think its the modem or the emmc file im not to sure but i need my cell radio services up and running
I have the T-Mobile version and have this issue when I flash any custom rom other than the original Omni rom build. If anyone know how to correct this I would like to know as well
So I had two stock roms both different versions which I always fell back on incase something happened. I've never encountered this issue on this device before so I flashed them and nothing worked and I was looking in this complicated way thinking I'd damaged the EFS partition or the modemst files. After hours I just downloaded another* I think EU stock version and did a flash all.bat and hey presto
Always revert back to original stock ROM
