Hey guys! Im having trouble unlocking my HTC One M9 (Sprint) with htc Dev.
I downloaded Android sdk, installed platform tools, i open command prompt window inside the platform tools folder
and I type adb devices, and it shows my device number and that it is connected. I reboot my phone into download mode, and I
type fastboot oem get_identifier_token and instead of showing me the token number i get
C:\Users\Rudy Molina\Desktop\platform-tools>fastboot oem get_identifier_token
...
(bootloader) [KillSwitch] : /dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/frp
(bootloader) [KillSwitch] Last Byte is 0X00, disable unlock
(bootloader) [KillSwitch] oem unlock Turn Off!
OKAY [ 0.020s]
finished. total time: 0.020s
C:\Users\Rudy Molina\Desktop\platform-tools>
I have no clue what to do.
I have tried it many times moved the folder around. uninstalled htc sync manager sdk manager and reinstalled. i get the same thing every time.
I recently did the ota update, not sure if that has something to do with it. So im now running
Android 5.1 sense 7
Please help me out. Im thinking about installing an RUU to have Android 5.0 and then trying the htc dev unlock.
I'm not sure but might have something to do with Android's Anti-Theft protection. Try disabling all security on the phone including and pin codes or lock screens, reboot and try again. Doesn't look like a driver issue

Unlock bootloader problem Sprint HTC One m9
Hi,
I also have a brand new Sprint HTC One M9 and am trying to unlock the bootloader.
I seem to have the exact problem which you had and also learned to enable the OEM unlock setting. However i still have a problem with the next step which is to submit the token ID on the htcdev.com site. Everything in the process works until I submit the token to htcdev. I get an error regarding an invalid token or wrong token length message each time i try it.
Can you let me know if you have succeeded and if so did you have to perform any additional steps.
Thanks
Tiernan

I have seen before where when I copy my token from the cmd prompt, it will put spaces on every line screwing up the token hence kicking out an error. Try pasting it into notepad first and delete any extra spaces before submitting.
I had trouble "marking" my token as well, highlighted way too much. I looked into the properties of edit and unchecked something about word wrap and it was all good. Sorry I can't remember the particulars or the terminology.
I am trying to buy a Sprint phone today (possibly the Htc one M9). Is it still possible to unlock bootloader through the HTC website? And if so, must the phone be completely paid off?? I really do not want to deal with any Samsung phones since I have had my At&t GS4 with locked bootloader for 2 years. Is there any roms or good mods for this phone yet?
There is no good roms for either the Note 5, s6, or Edge plus so if HTC allows unlocking bootloader to allow for a custom recovery than I would think the development will be good over time unlike any locked down samsung phone. Any advice on a good phone?

The only two potential issues I can see are, device should be in fastboot mode, but the HTC unlocking guide/steps will have advised this and if you're on windows, will need the correct drivers loaded, but the HTC unlocking guide/steps should have advised this also.
When i ran this command, it took about 3-4 seconds to complete. I followed each setup of the guide posted on HTC's web site. If you're experiencing issues with HTC's unlock method I would suggest referring to their troubleshooting tips.
I also ran the command from Linux so I didn't have to deal with any drivers. Hope that helps and good luck!
I have the phone in Bootloader mode (holding down power and volume down keys). I have all the required software installed. I use the command prompt to get my token and copy the info into the requisite slot in the HTC website window and when I hit the continue button I get an error message "Error Code: Invalid Bootloader Token Length.
Error Reason: The submitted Token appears to be the wrong length and won't work"
I have tried multiple times on two different computers. Always the same error. It is 7:30 pm EDT. I need help cuz I may be running out of time.

I'm wondering if mine just isn't the right one but they should be. also i have the phone hooked up first and then go into fastboot and it says fastboot usb before i type in the command
thanks for any help
What do you mean "Stuck waiting for device after I put in the command"? If you pm me an email address, I can send the files tonight when I return from work.

The device isnt connected properly to the computer. Make sure you open your command prompt in the android folder and have the files within the same folder (i did this on OS X)
And then check to make sure you the computer recognizes the phone with
fastboot devices
You should see your device listed if it is connected properly.

Did you install the HTC Sync Manager or install the HTC USB drivers from another source? Your phone won't be detected until you have the drivers installed. (I'm assuming you're using a Windows computer)

If your getting that error, you have fastboot and adb but you haven't installed htc drivers yet.
If you don't have fastboot/adb files you will get a unknow command error.

*edit - I got it taken care of now i uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and it worked this time. Thank you everyone for the help.
has anyone received the "Error Code (10) A request for the USB descriptor failed" error message? i can't get my laptop to seen my device in fastboot mode. i've installed/uninstalled the HTC drivers but no change. weird part is that i can communicate with my device via ADB when booted normally. any suggestions would be appreciated.

Great for you, I can't wait to get there myself.
It was late last night and I was one click away, but wan't sure how long until the next break stop would be, so I went to bed.
Now, I cannot recall what I was supposed to do. Can anyone please shed some light on the next instructions, I can no longer access these as I believe it was shown when you click to continue??
I have all the files/drivers and token placed in the same location on my drive and as a guess I've also copied the token .zip file to the SDcard on my HTC One X (vodafone stamped
I really wished they have a removable battery and media card support!! I have just purchased a new battery from eBay that proclaims a new chip on it that prevents overcharging. So that should be interesting, since the HTC charger is not a switching charger like my BlackBerry ones were.
What I want:
ROOT
a new clean/fast/efficient ROM, was thinking clockworkmod.
Since I have zero experience and limited time to troll through forums these days, I am really finding it hard to find a REALLY simple step by step guide to perform this. I know, it's not a simple proccess, I know, but perhaps just the steps in a efficient, simple list, overlooking stuff like backups etc, but perhaps a TIP to mention it would be a good idea as the next step will wipe everything etc
Thanks if you're still reading and perhaps WERE at my stage once before.
I'm sure custom ROMs are a personal preference, but any bad points about ROMs would probably be better than selling the good points.
CWM should be fine for my first attempt???
MANY thanks in advance for your time.
Steve.

I'm now unlocked!!!!

Hey there, I have a question, that has been bugging my head for 2 days now. So i tried unlocking the bootloader of my Lenovo K10 Note, but it just didn't work properly. So i started with enabling the option for oem unlock and usb debugging. Then i installed Android SDK and followed the common steps. Keep in mind that oem unlock is enabled. So I then proceed with fastboot flash unlock and pasting the img that Lenovo sent me. The command goes through, then it types sending unlock and then... it freezes. I then go to restart the bootloader from the phone and the flash unlock fails, pointing out a variety of errors(out of links, ect.). So my question is, what do i do know? Thanks in advance!

I bought a Moto G Play 2021 unlocked from best buy yesterday. I can't enable "OEM unlocking" in Developer Settings. It is grayed out.
I factory reset a few times.
The phone CID is listed as a phone that can be unlocked on the Motorola site. I got the unlocking key from the Motorola site through a process that sends an email out with the key. Then I run <fastboot oem unlock "key">, but I get
(bootloader) Check 'OEM unlocking' in Android Settings > Developer
(bootloader) Options
FAILED (remote: '')
fastboot: error: Command failed
I don't think any fastboot command will work as long as the "OEM unlocking" is grayed out and disabled in settings.
Called Motorola. They offer no help.
I'm new to custom ROMs and having a hard time. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

Not that unusual.
Sometimes there's a time delay, and required connection to WiFi or LTE.
Also sometimes a factory reset will ungray the OEM unlock toggle.
I suggest a factory reset, then connect to wifi if it's still grayed out, it may take a few days to change.
Also you can check the CID code list in my Bootloader unlock thread.

Tried factory reset. Tried with and without Wifi after factory reset. I don't have a sim for it yet. So can't get LTE.
Can't find a "CID code" list in your post. Do you mean a list with CID's that lets you know if your phone can be unlocked? I found my CID is allowed for unlocking on Motorola's site.
Do you know why a delay might work? You think there is a timer or something for unlocking?
Thanks

There's a link in my Bootloader unlock thread, to the official cid list, you likely have seen already.
I don't know if wifi/lte is needed just going by what has been reported in the forums for last few years.
You can wait or return the device, there isn't any other options that I know of.

I've seen anywhere from mins to a couple of days reported, No pattern that I can see.
Factory reset, and connecting to the internet seem to help.
You could try Flash rescue with LMSA, but I haven't seen replies that helps.
If the CID is good, and you can get the unlock code from moto site, I don't know what else could be the issue.

So after three days, I did another factory reset. Nothing changed. I then used the KingRoot app. I clicked on Root, it didn't give me a confirmation. But when I went to the Developer Settings I could enable "OEM unlocking"!!! I then used <fastboot oem unlock "key"> on the bootloader and the device is unlocked now. Can't find twrp or any ROMs for this device though
I can confirm a three day time gate on the Moto G Play 2021 I got through T-Mobile Monday. The OEM Unlock has been greyed out since I first booted. Today, Thursday, after the 72 hour window, the toggle became accessable.

Weirdly (or absurdly), yesterday I found a Lenovo forum post that says it might take up to a week to get OEM Unlock. I posted on it (here) to see if anybody else has had the same experience that I'm still in the middle of -- THREE days, on WiFi, still no unlock.
Strange(r) thing is the "advice" from Moto/Lenovo in the link relates to a 3-year-old phone. I bought a Moto G6 (carrier-unlocked & BL-unlockable -6) in mint condition, updated to latest Pie (April 2020 security patch).
But maybe the G6/plus/play is just extra-odd? I've owned and rooted or unlocked 6-8 Moto phones (see my sig, not a complete list) and I've never in the past waited more than a few minutes to get OEM Unlock enabled. And all it took with my lady's Moto G Stylus '21 was making a WiFi connection, as has been super-typical for me.
I guess I'm just babbling out of frustration. Seems this mystery only gets weirder.
Edit to add, your last comment addresses one niddly little question I put forth in my post linked above . . . my CID (0x032) says the phone is unlockable, and I already got the unlock code from Moto. Is there ANY other detail, in getvar or anywhere, that might reveal that a phone is NOT unlockable?

The CID is the only thing to look at, that I know of.
Usually, OEM unlock is available within 3 days, but some have reported a couple of weeks.
Factory Reset seems to help if it's been over 3 days, but you will need to reconnect to the internet.

Thanks man. I haven't tried FDR yet, afraid of starting the countdown all over again. But if I don't get unlock in the next day or two I'll give it a shot.
Edit-- I was wondering as much as anything if maybe this phone could be an unlockable Amazon variant that had been blasted with stock firmware to hide the fact. But I don't even know how that could be done.

Amazon isn't even listed on lolinet.
That doesn't mean there isn't an Amazon channel, but it's not likely.

Ooooh dang. I mangled this convo. Clarification, the Moto G Stylus (not Play) is my lady's phone. The phone I'm currently struggling with is a G6 (unlocked version XT1925-6). That one is Ali. Her Stylus is codename Minsk. I unlocked and rooted her Stylus (via Magisk patch) months ago, no problems there. Serious apologies for channeling down the wrong road in this thread.
Hello im new to the XDA forum and sorry for my bad writing but i am not an expert in english.
I wantet to unlock my bootloader of my nokia X20 only get the error:
FAILED (remote: 'Failed to unlock, decrypt failed!')
fastboot: error: Command failed
with both commands fastboot oem unlock & fastboot flashing unlock
i found out that my phone was encryptet from box.
i found a command to decrypt my phone but it can only run from recovery.
here is the point my phone doesn't have a recovery!
the bootloader doesn't show a recovery (video) + the recovery command brings me to a mini recovery with nothing in it (photo)
Everywhere in the internet it does all work fine only my phone is so or what?
Even Oem unlocking is blocked (greyed out) in the Settings of my phone [its in german because i am a swiss but translated i get the error] connect to the internet or contact your carrier but i have internet
when i try to reset via fastboot
Erasing 'data' FAILED (remote: 'did not have permission to erase')
fastboot: error: Command failed
Nothing works i just want to unlock the bootloader of my nokia X20 please someone help (ive already searched everything but nothing really helped.

Sorry, but you're ****ing out of luck. Nokia ****ing dead-locked their phones, and there's no way to unlock them. Next time, go buy another phone from another OEM instead of this ****ing one.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/how-do-i-unlock-the-bootloader-for-nokia-x10.4323507/ I've also asked a similar question to yours before, and...People told me that there's no ways to unlock those new Nokia phones' bootloaders anymore. You can try contacting their customer support, but I don't think it will work. I contacted them before so I can unlock my Nokia X10's bootloader, but they just kept dodging my question and sent some automated answers instead

no problem, and now I'm charging at the customer service email again. I will try to annoy them, and see if that'll make them unlock my bootloader

I hope so, past attempts has proven unsuccessful, as said before. I hope that I will manage to talk them into unlocking my bootloader though. I wish I am good at social engineering or something similar to that, lol

A whole full year later....
How did your attempt go? Was you able to talk them into unlocking the bootloader, or did they use excuses like "security" and "stability" again?

Wow i didn't think this thread is gonna get revived in a year.
Well i did contact Hdm but exactly like you staded they used security as an excuse so i wasn't able to unlock the bootloader.
My phone still works but when it breaks i will switch over to smasung because bootloader unlock there is very easy.

well, here's some news for hoping: Hikari_Calyx acquired a few prototype units of HMD/Nokia phones (some of which look suspiciously similar to the Nokia X10/20), and with cases like this (he extracted a prototype ABL image for bootloader unlocking), one can hope that the Nokia X10/20 will be unlocked in the same way as the XR20 (minus the step of acquiring full access to tri-color company's Device Kit, of course, **** that kit)
