Hi all,
I have been trying to full wipe/ factory reset my phone (the traditional value) using the Odin (and smart switch). Both the methods showed that the phone was being erased however after reboot all my data and setting were still in tact. So the question is does Odin/ Smart switch act as an alternative to factory reset through android/ recovery? I'm kinda confused.
Odin does not have an option to factory reset, and it never touches the data/media on your phone... of course your phone should lose all settings since generally the /system partition gets erased before flash, but your /data/media partition is still intact.

Well, that's the funny bit. Non of the settings are changed as well..everything intact although Odin said success...

That depends on firmware, you have to manually factory reset from recovery.

What is the error? You could also try updating your recovery and reflashing it (don't forget to format partitions and factory reset).

That ROM can't be flashed with newer versions of CWM because it uses amend scripting.
I found the problem... the problem is the sim card not compatible with the rom, i remove it and the phone boot normal and after the initial configurazione re insert the sim... thank you

Hello everyone,
I have big problem with my S3.
I have installed with stable CM10.2 few weeks ago.
*
The phone was working normally until today when it reset itself (probably not important, but when I opened gmail).
When restarting it stuck in bootloop, so I wipe cache and Dalvik cache.
After that, when starting the phone it stays on the black screen where it says Samsung Galaxy ...
I tried to do a factory reset, and it did not help, then I tried to restore a Nandroid backup and did not want to
Then I checked mounts and partitions and saw that EFS, system, preload and data are not mounted and if I click to mount anything from it returns an error that it can not.
*
Please help if anyone knows what I can do.
*
Thank you.

Best whishes,
Dag
Partition probably corrupt, format each and then restore your efs backup. Flash your rom again with a full wipe.

Error mountinf /system!
Formating /system...
It just stays like that, and than after some time screen turns off
Factory reset and flash full stock rom using odin, if that won't work then try the rescue firmware from general thread.

Thank you for your answer
I tried flashing stock firmware with Odin but it didn't pass.
Than I tried this
http://widefide.com/mobile/galaxy-s3-boot-problem-solution
and now I can't enter recovery (still can access download mode) and got message that "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
I guess that I will have to take it to service center.
In download mode I got status:
Custom binary downloads: Yes (1 count)
Current binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Custom
Can I somehow revert System status to offical?
Only way I know is triangle away, which needs a working rom to launch from, sorry.

So my bootloader is unlocked and i wanna flash twrp but i have seen threads here that miui is encrypted by default and i need to format data in twrp in order to boot after i flash twrp. So, guide me what should i do as i dont wanna lose my apps and data after flashing twrp
Another question if i flash the older version of miui rom using mi flash tool, will it lock my bootloader back or not?
Hi,
You can easily backup your data & apps with this Miui feature:
Go settings-> additionnal settings-> Backup & reset
I don't think Miui is encrypted by default. Normally you can flash twrp without any lost..

Btw is twrp 3.1.0 working fine with miui 8.2.4 ?
Yes it does. Just install TWRP, Boot into recovery (TWRP) and install LazyFlasher. Now you can boot to system. Voila!

Yep, it is a bug with TWRP.
You can't make an nandroid backup with the current twrp, just take efs backup, you're safe.
I made a backup with default settings (system, data and boot) without problems.
Before you make a backup switch off security pattern just in case...

I am not sure how efs backup works. I backed up my apps using titaium backup and in case my device won't bootup i will just flash fastboot rom and restore apps via titanium itself until the bug in twrp is fixed!
Thanks

You might get a proper answer if you ask reasonably.

Hello,
I've been able to solve the problem.
Now, I was left with a hidden partition, and the disk capacity decreased.
Better than brick anyway.

do reset factory to get full storage size.
Would you pls tell me how you get like this, thx!

Here is the Original thread for Orange Fox Recovery - https://forum.xda-developers.com/po...cial-orangefox-recovery-project-beta-t3853233
If you dont have any special requirement, you can go wirh official TWRP. Works like a Charm!

Nope. No special anything. Just wipe backup and restore and twrp does that fine.
I tried many ways to install orangefox and it kept saying my partition is encrypted. Twrp has 0 problems.

Flash the FDE zip and then everything works fine
In my case it was still not working even after flashing fde what worked was format data button in wipe section of the orange fox
and after that my data partition was formatted to f2fs and reformatting it to ext4 was necessary because whenever I've tried to boot into an os it would give me the encryption unsuccessful error even after flashing fde.
Hope this helped someone.
Trust me. I tried 10 ways to get it working it kept saying the darn thing is encrypted. Flashing twrp works just fine.
I literally do not want to format my data so I stuck with twrp and it's backing up and restoring fine.
