Fingerprint sensor - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys.. hope everyone is doing great! I have an S6 edge SM-G925F (Global) and want to root it.
I've heard that the fingerprint sensor will not work after root. Is it true?
I just want to use the sensor to unlock my phone. Is there any way to have root + fingerprint unlock?
Thanks a bunch

Untrue. Fingerprint scanner works with rooting. It will not work if you do not flash bootloader for 5.1.1 ROMS.
Simple as that.

Thanks for clarifying. So you mean to say if I root using Alex-V method, I would get my fingerprint and all functions to work, except that knox will be 0x1?

Which functions will i lose from unlocking bootloader

Been considering buying the LTE model since i'm returning my Nvidia shield tablet.
Which functions will i lose specific to this tablet if i unlock the bootloader ?
I know i will lose DRM keys and camera functionality, would someone be able to confirm please ?

You can backup your drm keys anyway if you need to relock boot loader pretty much same as the z ultra procedure I think.
Ahhh okay. But I thought you needed root and to be able to do so you need to unlock the bootloader as there isn't a exploit to root yet ?

Not sure about root but I want to unlock bootloader just so I can install a generic UK firmware and did of bloatware and O2 startup logo but will not root so I can use my banking app.

there is still no exploit to gain root and back up DRM keys.
the current root method available is for unlocked bootloaders only.
and once you unlock you cannot backup drm keys.
so either wait for an exploit to be found in lolipop or unlock the bootloader to gain root.
So what functions will lose?

i'm also currious to this,
can anyone confirm what functions still work
X-reality (i dont realy care about this)
camera speed/improvements (don't care either because it looks silly to take pictures with a tablet )
active noise cancelation with the MDR-31NC, for me really important, basicly the main reason of buying this Z3TC)
Anyone able to confirm that unlocking the bootloader kills remote play? It does for the phones apparently.
Hello!
In order to flash a no brand firmware you DON'T need do unlock your bootloader. Just use flashtool and a nobrand firmware

Questions about rooting and updates

Hi,
i have bought a new S6 Edge and would like to install root with Ping Pong Mode on 5.02
This disables OTA updates.
So far understood.
But then how can i update in the future to 5.1.1 while staying rooted and without loosing fingerprint sensor etc. and without increasing knox?
Also a custom recovery would be gread without increasing KNOX
Any info about that would be great, thanks

IMPOSSIBLE IMPOSSIBLE IMPOSSIBLE IMPOSSIBLE.
Did I mention it is impossible?
some variants can be updated to 5.1.1 however each technique requires a trade off.
To keep root, either you will trip knox, or you will lose the fingerprint sensor.
Which variant do you have?
The technique to use depends on your variant.
thanks for the info. i dont have any t mobile variant or sth. just ordered by amazon germany
or what do you mean?

When I ask which variant, I mean is it SM G925F, SM G925S etc. It should be written on the back of the phone.

I think that is possible but don't know how
Hi again,
I did again some reading and as far as i know so far i have some options, please correct me if I am wrong:
When I stay on 5.02:
- Rooting with Ping Pong Mode
- Knox wont be triggered
- Fingerprint Sensor is kept
- No update to 5.1.1 possible so far
- No custom recovery flashable without triggering KNOX???? <-- Is this right?
When I am on 5.1.1:
- Rooting without triggering KNOX is not possible
- Rooting with Unikernel and Autoroot
- Fingerprint Sensor and Edge functionality is kept
- What is the deal with the locked bootloader? How can i find out if mine is locked if I have 5.1.1? How can it be unlocked?
Thanks for help
BR
André
Hi again,
I did some researching and wanted to know if i am correct.
What i thought was: Staying on 5.02 but rooted and with Fingerprint sensor and KNOX 0x0.
So what i would do:
- Base is 5.02
1. Engineering Bootloader flash with ODIN
2. Boot in Download mode and flashTWRP with ODin
3. Boot in Recovery and flash 5.02 Root Kernel (Hacker kernel/Hybridmax)
Is that correct=? Any thoughts / problems on this?
Thanks and regards

Try it.
It is not clear to me the first steps. You said you need those two files for Odin but what fields do you put them into for Odin? Is there going to be a step by step tutorial or a video that shows all steps? The one up now only gives the gist but not the details. Would rather not gamble with a possible mistake.

This shows you how to odin and then shows you how to root after odin is done, so just watch the steps on how to odin.

Frp is like Apple cloud locking a phone. If the device is factory reset while there is a pass code on the device, frp will require the email and password the phone was origonally set up with. If the email and pass isnt correct you cannot resetup the phone.this is a way to try and prevent thieves from activating a stolen phone.
Does this method use eng boot?
Hi. I got a used T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S7, and, unfortunately for me, the guy who had it before forgot his Samsung Account password, and for this I can't do a factory reset, because I wouldn't be able to use it. I'd really appreciate if you can help me. This has the latest Oreo update.

Maybe is a hardware problem...
Why rooted and unlocked? Demo mode can be enabled and disabled in settings.
How did u root? This could be the problem.
If the problem existed before rooting, it's most likely disabled in your kernel (if you can see the setting in Security). Most likely because it's a demo cust. I'd try rebranding to something else.

i root the device for removing Retail App and install custom Kernel or Rom.
Rooting can break function ai unless you have rooted with magisk also the custom rom/ kernel can cause problems with the fingerprint.what rom or kernel are used?
Like ante says rebrand to 636 region.
Be careful don't use noxloader version.

I am monitoring it right now, will report back in a couple of days.
Will Xiaomi ever give us the option to expand the notifications on the Lockscreen? And also fix that stupid bug that's turns off the flashlight once you try to expand notifications while using the phone :/

For what it's worth, I have a Mi 9 global edition with 10.2.13 global firmware. After I unlocked the bootloader and rooted, I no longer had widevine L1, and became L3. I can confirm using the Miflash tool to reflash the stock global firmware and relocking the bootloader restored widevine L1 for me.

about CPU im not too sure, but i did get better battery life overall than .28, fingerprint scanner is way way better now too, it recognizes faster than ever and the fail ratio is almost none.
but after flash this you need to re-set the fingers to get them work at their best.
is this out OTA in some countries?
