I keep scouring the web to see when the Z4 tab will get the update but it is scarily quiet! Anyone have any inside info as to what's happening?
Cheers
I too have been searching on a daily basis. I don't like doing this, but the performance of the Z4 is good, but then its still not miles away from the Z3 compact, and there should be a huge difference looking at the specs.
I feel that the Z4 is not optimised for the 64 bit octa core processor and perhaps we might see a performance jump in Android 5.1.1?
I'm also wondering why the Z4 Tablet has not the update to 5.1 yet.
On the other side there is an Android M developer preview available for nearly every xperia device except for the Z4T?
I am really a bit disappointed - you buy a brand new (and expensive) device and you don't get updates. But the "old" devices get everything...
I'm presuming Sony is having some challenges with the Snapdragon 810 and optimisation of the octal core processor. That's all it can be really.

Still no update from Sony.
I've got the Samsung Z3 Tablet Compact and the Z4 Tablet, and the Z3TC is flying along with Android 5.1.1, at times outpacing the Z4 for the same task, which makes me want to see the Z4 Android 5.1.1 update sooner than later. Sony are pushing this update out to Z3 and Z2 owners and nothing for the Z4.
Does anyone have any insight into whats going on?
No insight but I just downloaded the AOSP 5.1 binaries from SONY developer world. The AOSP sources are on GitHub.
Next week I try to build the 5.1 ROM.
According to the latest entry in PTCRB, seems that android 5.1.1 is on its way...

It is one of the Z3+/Z4 phones.
This is a regulatory site ...
28.0.A... software versions are for the xperias with Qualcom 810 processors from SONY.
It only means there is newer ROM for the phone. The software sans specific drivers for the phone part should be identical to the Z4 Tablets (Wifi or LTE).
So you can see it like this:
Newer ROMs for phone(s) usually means updates for the tablets too.

Good to see progress, but then how long does the Firmware rollout start after this stage? If anyone knows.
I actually ran a 5.11 version here (from AOSP sources).
But no touch functionality -> useless.
Should be fixed according to a SONY guy but trying (and reverting) takes 5+ hours including 2 of my personal time.

Yes please, Im using the sony concept on my z3 compact phone and its amazing, its amazingly fast, and the feature I am waiting so much is adoptive storage, I have a 64gb micro sd on my tablet but since the 16gb internal fill up so much its pretty much useless to have a micro sd, on my phone on the other hand with android 6.0, it takes the micro sd and the internal storage as one partition, so I dont have to worry about moving any file, and as far as android goes, I have 70gb of storage , I NEED THIS ON MY TABLET NOW!!

Yep only thing im intetested in with marshmallow is the storage improvement. I have a 128gb and 200 gb card waiting but suspect the 128gb is the max for this device.

(I am still in 4.4.4, 23.0.1.A.0.167)
Still waiting Sony......
Still waiting. Early-mid March. Xperia Z3 Compact Tab SGP621. Heck, I didn't even get the 23.4.A.1.264 update.
dudes i have PERFECT results as concern speed and battery with stock KK and this fully debloating script http://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/kk-debloating-script-xperia-phones-t3192846.I have more than 10 hours screen on time with browsing internet.I am not an expert but from what i read about android 6,i don't believe that it will be more stable from KK.Basically i believe no-one OS till now is better from KK.And don't forget that 34% from all android devices run KK.Also if you have root like me,you can easilly customize your rom to add android M features

Doesn't look like the Tablet gets the beta.
Just have to wait
(But it works great on lollipop too, maybe better on kitkat, but I never used it on KK).
On the Z5 on the other hand, lollipop was lollipoo.
Its ridiculous we almost at April and we still dont have MM on Z3tc...
I have some bugs on my device probably fixed with 6.0.... Sony is the worst to release updates. =/

I know it supersucks because we and the z2 tablet are the only ones who don't have MM, z5 have it and Z3 and z2 users have the concept since December and now the beta... But us NOTHING, The Z3 line all have the same processor, the EXACT model, is that hard to make available the concept for us??.... .....
The whole Sony tablet phone is not bad to the ones are not super into especific stuff, but about updates and that Sony sucks a lot.
For me is the last thing Sony I will buy tablet or phone atm

what will you do more with MM?
This tablet runs better than every MM tablet ...
Anyway I have Samusng and Sony smartphones and they get MM togheter in march but for example Nexus got MM before: it crashed, drained battery and it seemed a crash test of the new Android version...I prefer a better device with a better software, also if the software is older labeled but play more things than newer
Hi
I was wondering why there are almost no Chinese tablets with android lollipop.
You can look at aliexpress and see that almost 95% percent of the tablet are android kitkat. And its already a year after the release.
Also I have not seen any rockchip based tablet with android lollipop.
It might be that the industry will skip a release?
Thanks.
After seeing Xperia C4,Xperia C5 Ultra and now Xperia M5 got android 5.1 update out of the nowhere should we expect it on M4 soon?
Those phones should skip 5.1 and go directly ti 6.0 but Sony changed their minds...
Only M4 left on 5.0 for now...
Keep in mind that c4, c5 and m5 use same mediatek chipset so once 5.1 came for c4 it was matter of time to appear also for c5 and m5. Our M4 aqua uses qualcomm chipset so i do not expect 5.1 for it. It should be easier for sony to get 6.0 working on the qualcomm than on mediatek so i think that we will get directly 6.0 while c4, c5 and m5 will get it later than us and that's why sony released 5.1 for these models to calm down the owners. We will see.
End of february beginning of March for marshmallow on m4 aqua

Where did you get this information from?
Official the S6 and S6 edge will get 6.0 february/march. And for the M4 it says first quarter, so it's more likely end of march or second quarter
Never seen any real date for any Sony Xperia phones and marshmallow, so a month time for M4 is very unlikely. First of they need to roll it on z5 series, then the rest of the z series. And lastly on other Xperia models... I hope we get 6.0 before summer.

Also, people can get very anxious about UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE, but have you seen what's in these updates? Barely anything, from what I can see. Even the major updates from 5.0 to 6.0. How much of it is visible to the consumer?
Bug fixes (don't care)
developer tools (don't care, not releveant),
driver updates (don't care)
oh and they fixed the sound toggles that they broke in 5.0 that nobody liked. Wow, thanks!
zzzzzzzz
When Android 10.0 comes out call me. Maybe there'll be something new.
In M4's case, we will get a possibility to use SD card as a phone memory, and considering the lack of space this phone has, marshmallow is a big thing...

In XperiFirm i see that there is a new firmware released for Denmark, Nordic and Baltic (E2303) 26.1.A3.93. Going by the number looks like the firmware could be 5.1.
has any one got the update, can any one confirm.
It's not 5.1. It is still 5.0, but my phone got 300mb extra free space. They have removed something. Haven't found what it is yet.
My FW is 26.1.A.3.92. Upgraded this morning through Xperia companion.

I have the north American 16GB version.
- SD card as expanded internal memory (I don't care).
And I'm a consumer. Of course I get to evaluate the $300 products I buy and their support. "crappy post" doesn't make sense.

If it isn't relevant to you, why comment? There are always bug fixes and security fixes that do matter to a lot of people, whether you include yourself in that group or not is a moot point.

Why did I comment? Go back to the first post. The first post talks about ETAs for arrival of the next major Android update. The entire point of my comment, which you've apparently missed, was that I'm not convinced by anything I've read about the update that is a significant improvement from the customer standpoint, so I'm relaxed about the ETA. My point is valid, even if it's different to your's, or just because you don't understand. Moot that. There's nothing more useful for me in this thread so it's my final comment to you.
As you know Google recently released Android 7.0 update to Nexus devices and Sony released list of what devices will receive update http://blogs.sonymobile.com/2016/08/23/sony-xperia-and-android-7-0-nougat/ Only Z and X line will be getting it. Sony abondoned it's M4 and M5 devices that recently turned 1 year old. Our only hope now is Custom Rom devs. What do you think about this move from Sony ?
I think,it's only "first wave" of updates,in future we can see Nougat. But I don't sure, that this is right)))

It's unlikely that it will be in waves. It's sony after all slow ass oem who has close to stock android yet takes more time to update than Samsung, Lg
To be fair, I'm more surprised we got Marshmallow in the first place. Nougat was very, very unlikely.
However, Marshmallow created so many issues on my phone, this is the first time ever where I've had to downgrade to Lollipop.
If Sony did bring Nougat, they'd mess it up somehow. But I regret getting this phone and will probably cross Sony off the list of OEMs to purchase from.
M4 and M5 are midrange devices we can't expect more than Marshmallow..
There is no xperia e5 on the list, which is a 2016 phone, so it is probably just a list that will be updated soon.
---------- Post added at 05:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:15 PM ----------
Unless Sony is trying to be the Apple of android and cutting out their midrange phones
i'm pretty sure this is our last rom, and i don't think there will be a new custom rom either since the dev are became quite now (it just my opiniop tho..)
hope we get a method to root our Xperia M4 Aqua on MM 6.0 without unlocking boot loader ...... :fingers-crossed:
IF and it's a big IF - we get 7.0 N it will probably be after they release 8.0 X on other xperia devices just like it happened to 6.0 MM

I don't think we will get nougat either, as there are there are reports for Qualcomm not supporting snapdragon 810, so no Vulkan API drivers for the z3. Snapdragon 615 (our phone) was in the 810 lineup, so it probably won't get the drivers either. So PROBABLY no nougat.
it is snapdragon 801 and not 810

Qualcomm and Google won't support Snapdragon 801 and not Snapdragon 810 ( Xperia Z5) ... btw Snapdragon 615 is on a host of phones which probably are going to get Nougat update its only that disgusting Sony wont offer any more updates Samsung and LG, Huawei will still support their Snapdragon 615 ( very good chance)
and visit this http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/0...t-24-months-os-updates-current-future-phones/
Huawei has promised 24 months of updates for all its devices going forward 2016 onwards Honor 5X with snapdragon 615 will be getting nougat because unlike Sony Huawei cares about their users
(if) We will get nougat only when android o beta come out, I've been using sony mid range a long time and this pattern was also applied to our phone, at that time our 18 month of update already dead I think
It's not a flagship phone, this isn't Google and it came with 5.0. It was foreseeable that it would die with 6.0.1 (officially anyway, but seeing that there's hardly any development, it's really unlikely we will get a nougat rom)
M4 aqua is a mid-range device and as such only gets update support for 18mths it was never gonna get N in the first place z3 and m5 also don't use dm-verity security which all new Xperia devices have. People are slating Sony for dropping the z3 that's had two years of update support and two big os updates when it's actually qualcomm dropping support not Sony

Is there any way I can load G8341 firmware on this phone so it works with american carriers?
Based on the IMEI it's not compatible and checking with a sim card doubly verifies this.
If anyone in this forum is in canada and has the exact opposite problem i'd be glad to trade you phones
I sought the XZ1 hoping that sailfish os compatibility would eventually extend to it.

Thanks, I will try that ASAP.
Currently just the xperia x1, and the x2.
But, now that sony has officially pulled the plug on the xz1's cloud portals, the community is the only place people can go to get any hope of updates or continued support of any kind for their phone. And it's only 2 years old!
Any improvements on Carbonrom, LineageOS, etc may include discoveries about the phone works and how to configure the code for it, withheld by sony, that might be applicable to sailfish os development.
Sailfish os is currently compatible with the xperia X1 and the X2 and have not substantially extended their support for over a year. The thought in my mind is that we will see sailfish os on this hardware eventually however.
Community individuals who own a sailfish os license are freely eligible to download the jolla development kit and explore porting it, with a number of community ports already finished for older phones.
Personally, I would be willing to donate to a patreon dedicated to advancing the port for sailfish os to additional platforms including the xz1. I may never get full cameraapi support but its still very nice hardware, a decent camera, a full battery and a beautiful high definition screen phone.
