Samsung Galaxy S3 sudden death - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
I have an issue with my Samsung Galaxy S3; had it for a few years on O2 network in the UK. Recently, I left my phone to charge over night after the battery ran out of charge. I woke up to find no charge LED on the phone, and I couldn't turn it on.
I have tried the following things to power it up:
- booting it up in recovery mode (Home button, power button and Volume DOWN simultaneously).
- taking out the battery, pressing the power button a few times, then starting the phone up again with the battery in the phone.
- taking out the battery, pressing the power button and holding it for 10 seconds, and doing both normal power up, and recovery mode.
Now, a week later, after my phone completely died (and having to do with a Nokia Lumia 610 replacement), I came across a YouTube video in which someone recommends to plug it via USB into the computer, taking out SD Card and booting it up through recovery mode. Voila! I was amazed to see that it booted up; I had my menu and everything.
So I charged it to about 10% via the PC, and decharged it back down to zero. Plugged it back into the socket, and again, not a single sign of life from the phone.
To summarize, the phone only turns on via PC with USB connection, and fails to charge through the socket. I'm on Stock, non-rooted phone; with Android 4.3 and Kernel 3.0.31-2168382. When I try to do a software update, it tells me that I have the latest one. eMMC check app also tells me that I have an insane chip.
Where do I begin looking for a fix? I would be forever grateful for your help!

Hard Brick/Black Screen 5.0 [SOLVED]

My 5.0 is hard bricked. Black screen, won't charge, won't turn on. When plugged into outlet or computer, still black screen.
I rooted it back in December with no problems until today. Decided to plug it into an outlet to charge it since battery was around 50%. After about 30 minutes, used it to check weather, etc., then I did a quick push of the on/off switch to turn off the screen. About 2 minutes later, went to turn it on and got the black screen. I decided to leave it plugged into an outlet for about 1 hour and still nothing.
Looking at other, similar, bricked posts for the 5.0, doesn't seem applicable to this completely dead device (wasn't installing a rom or doing anything unusual).
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Solved
I was able to fix the problem, without losing any data, by going into recovery. For others who may run into similar issues, I did the following:
Pressed the power and volume up key simultaneously for about 10 seconds until the SAMSUNG logo appeared.
Selected 'reboot system now' and pressed the home button.

Help please. Weird problem after getting 710 back from nokia service center.

So I recently sent my phone into nokia. They sent it back, when I tried to power it on it power on for a second then died because the battery was basically empty. Now I have a charger and charged battery at home. It will not do anything with either. Wont charge, wont power on, nothing. I verified that the battery works with a voltmeter.
I downloaded the drivers and such. When I hold volume up and power it will viberate and now show anything. If connected to the computer it will show up as dload. I can go into NSS, but when I try to read info everyhing comes back as N/A. Everything even iemi and what not. Also it randomly losses connection to the computer and you have to replug the usb and hold power and volume up. I have no clue whats up.
Also I have NOT tried any type of aftermarket flash of either the rom or bootloader. Nothing the phone was completely stock.
Send it back

Bricked or power button trouble?

A few days ago I looked at my phone and the 'Device Options' menu kept appearing over and over as if someone was holding the power button down. I managed to turn off the phone and since then I haven't been able to get it to reboot. The phone will boot to either the 'SAMSUNG' or 'Samsung Galaxy SIII' logo screens and then the screen goes blank. I can occasionally get the phone to start booting into recovery mode but it turns off before getting to the menu, same thing with download mode. This seems to be getting worse as well, as the first few times I tried to get to recovery mode I could at least get to the menu before it turned off.
The phone will not charge either. I can get the charging indicator (red LED) to come on if I remove battery, plug in USB cable then reinsert battery. However, the battery does not actually get a charge when I do this.
I have tried swapping in fresh batteries, removing SD card, removing SIM card with no effect. I tried taking the phone apart and I can't see any problems with the power switch.
Any ideas on what is going on? I am two months out of warranty. I have ordered a USB jig since I thought it was bricked from a firmware/software issue but now I am wondering if it is actually a power button problem.
The phone is a Rogers Galaxy SIII, not rooted, running stock firmware.
Thanks.

Serious problem - Well elaborated. Mido not booting. Urgent help required.

I was on the latest MIUI (9.something), boot-loader unlocked, redwolf recovery (v27), last seen battery was ~50% charged (before going off).
And, I was using my phone. Suddenly screen goes off and nothing comes up. I tried to restart, it doesn't work.
Finally I googled the problem and tried these things:
1) Press power button 5 times, then try to start the phone by long pressing power button.
Result: Screen open up, that initial screen with MIUI logo, I keep the button pressed, screen goes off and instantly starts again with booting started. Now, as soon as boot finishes, that *low-power* sound comes and it switches off.
2) Press power button 5 times, then try to start the phone by long pressing power button. This time when the screen comes up first time, I press (vol-up + power) to boot to recovery.
Result: As expected. That screen goes off and instantly another screen comes up with the recovery splash screen. Recovery comes up. There on the top, it shows two weird stats: (CPU temp 105 deg C, battery 0%).
3) Press power button 5 times, then try to start the phone by long pressing power button. This time don't press anything on the first screen.
Result: The screen goes off and that's it.
Some weird symptoms worth knowing:
1) Whenever I plug the charging cable (either with charger or, laptop) it just do not boot, neither to system nor to recovery.
2) The micro-USB port is damaged I guess. Last time (a day before all this), I tried to connect phone to my laptop but the socked seemed lose. It was just not connecting, rather fluctuating a bit.
3) Whenever I plug the charging/data cable (either with charger or, laptop) while booting or, while in recovery it suddenly switches off.
either your battery got badly damaged, or your device got fried.
First, I'd agree on the first commenter and support you taking the device to any android service center to check whether your battery or phone got fried. If it's done and proved nothing is wrong with my battery/phone I'd buy an EDL deep flash cable (I bought one for dirt cheap, 5 dollars) and try to solve my problem via deep flash, edl emergency download mode. There are tons of how to do tutorials on the official Xiaomi forums. Good luck with that, my friend!
I've updated something. Please see it.
How would I use edl if port is not working properly? See the original ques. again. I've updated it.

Recovery advice or options?

I believe my phone is broken and I need to return for warranty repair. But wanted to describe it here and see if there are any suggestions and advice.
I was charging on an airplane and I tried "chopping" moto-action to turn on the flashlight and it didn't work. I thought that was strange so I disconnected my phone from the power and reset it.
It did not go past the boot screen. I tried holding down power + volume down and it enters the other screen, and I tried scrolling down to enter recovery mode, but when I hit the power button on that selection it goes to the boot screen and stays there again.
If I try to plug it in, it no longer even responds to pressing and holding the power button + volume down anymore, I have to unplug it for it to respond.
I have tried charging it from the wall, and I only use the motorola provided cord and block.
The phone, even after being plugged in and charging (the motorola symbol on the back lights up when plugged in to indicate it's charging), does not actually charge.
When I enter to the other screen it now shows 0% battery warning.
What can I do? I live in the US but this phone was purchased in the UK, so US motorola support will not help me. I'm worried I will have to mail my phone to the UK for repairs, and their live-chat is not active during the same waking hours as the US so I am using my backup phone, but this really sucks...

I guess the only thing you can try is to flash stock firmware on your device search the firmware on google according to your baseband and use adb method to flash it...
