Hello, yesteterday I installed the newest 5.1.1 update for my xperia device. (sgp621, LTE version).
While installing it via recovery, the recovery showed that the temperature of cpu is 55C. Now, I never had any overheating problem before. I was using stock 4.4.4 till yesterday. After installation ,the device booted up (first two times were longer, guess because I installed new OS, now they are normal) and still I can notice device is heating up faster than before. When checking the temp, it is normal (28-32C while using) but the device is hot, so I guess it's the cpu.
Everything else works fine, just like it did in 4.4.4. Also I rooted 5.1.1 (locked bootloader, made prerooted OS) so any help is welcome and appreciated. The device is not burning-hot but it is easly noticeable that it is warmer than than it used to be when in use, even normal. In idle, it's normal temperature. I am thinking about downgrading it to 4.4.4.
Thanks for any help,
g8295815
If the recovery alerted you that the temperature was high, it means it doesn't have anything to do with the new 5.1.1 OS, as it was the recovery that was running at that time and not the full OS.

I just noticed it was higher than usual when installing new OS. And while using it in new system, sometimes it still gets warmer. I installed Device Control, and when the device gets warmer and I open CPU control, I noticed that minimum speed is same as maximum, essentialy making cpu working 100% all the time. When I forced the minimum at 300 mhz the device gets colder.
I reinstalled back to 4.4.4 and temperatures went back to normal, then, I installed 5.1.1 again and the problem came back. I am not an expert here, these are what I observed. Could it be because of recovery I installed or could I downloaded corrupted OS?
My recovery: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261606
OS downloaded from: xperiafirmware.com/8-firmware/77-sony-xperia-z3-tablet-compact-lte-sgp621
I created new .ftf with PRF Creator 0.9, added OS, flashable recovery and SuperSU zip file.
Before I went and installed created .ftf file, I installed recovery from .exe file, made sure everything worked, and flashed the OS though said recovery. Then, around the end of installation, I noticed higher than usual temperature.
If somebody has any idea what went wrong or should I just install some kind of CPU governor, I would be grateful.
Other than that, the system runs well.
You already said its cooler with lower minimum CPU clock, so just force it and its fine or not?
In general, lollipop seems to heat up more than KitKat.

Well, yes, it is. Why should I keep my CPU underclocked if it worked fine in 4.4.4?
I was hoping the system would stabilize after some days but it did not want to. Camera overheats very fast when taking pictures, when in 4.4.4 it never heated up, while using YouTube app it gets much hotter too. I was getting around 12-16 hours of watching Youtube/Twitch with wifi on before and even more watching movies in mkv/mp4 format with Dice app with around 50% brightness.
Now I am lucky if I get 9 hours with lowest brightness. My guess is, it's because CPU gets much warmer.
Formating, wiping out /system and cache, factory reset, nothing helps but using 4.4.4 again. 5.1.1 is much smoother, but is it worth it? I searched the Internet and it seems I am not the only one with these problems. I really hoped for even better battery life as it was advertised.
I was blind enough to delete my 4.4.4 backup by mistake and now I need to find it. Battery drops in idle mode are hilarious too. It drops 10% sometimes during the night (stamina mode on, mobile/wifi/autosync off). Media server, System idle and System usually have the same percentage of battery usage when I check the battery stats.
There seems to be a big bug in newest firmware affecting only LTE versions making radio cell run all the time cus draining battery like it was in normal use. It could affect device's temp.

So I just installed BAMF remix 1.7 on my newly rooted TB and it seemed slow with bad battery life. This seems to be atypical so I was wondering if anyone could help me out figuring out my problem.
I downloaded the rom and flashed it from rom manager, selecting to clear the cache and dalvic cache. The install went fine and I restored my user apps from titanium backup. While it was going through and installing all of these apps, super user force closed a couple of times. Then there were some applications that kept force closing like handcent, flexT9, and Swift keyboard X, but uninstalling and reinstalling them seemed to fix the problems. I then reset the battery statistics from cwm.
I set up the accounts and sync like I had before and in fact had less accounts syncing since I was only syncing facebook and not facebook and the htc sense facebook both. I didn't change the kernal but set the governor to power save after I started noticing the battery running out quick.
When I was on stock running adw or go launcher, I would get about 15 hours from a full charge on 4G. Today after a full charge I got about 6.5 hours on a full charge.
Should I have done a factory reset in there? Is there a different kernal I should try? Should I try to flash the rom again without using rom manager?
You should definitely wipe all data before flashing any custom ROM. Many people have also had a lot of issues flashing with Rom Manager, including myself. DL the ROM from the developers page, place it on the root of your SD card (not in a folder), rename it to "update.zip" with a file manager, then use ROM Manager to boot into recovery. Wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache and dalvic then apply update from SD card. If you don't have a file manager on your phone, rename it on your PC then move to the card. You should be good after that.
You need to wipe data when coming from a different rom.
Have you tried use Imoseyon battery saver or extreme kernel? It does gives great battery life if you find sweet spot on your TB.
PS. You must wipe everything if you are coming from another ROM.
I have the same issue as OP. I have wiped dalvik/cache/data. I did factory reset and I am running the BAMF 1.7 remix with Adrenalyn's Kernel and the new radio that's provided in the rom. I've read that this rom and kernel are good with battery life but mine drains at a very fast rate 1% about 3 mins. I don't have any data sucking apps. GPS is always off and Im on 3G using AUTO(PRL).
Any suggestions?

i had slow and no responsive with the screen it was pissing me off so i updated to gingerbread and it works like it should now. No 4 second lag and no anger
you should def do a full wipe before installating a new rom.
Battery life on 1.7 sucked for me too until I did a battery calibration, which I'd recommend doing after flashing a new rom.
- charge to 100% (turn phone off, wait till light turns green)
- boot into recovery, wipe battery stats
- reboot phone, unplug, wait till battery totally drains before plugging in again
I also went into the bamf toolkit and set the min to 245 and max to 1.024 w governor 'smartass'.
Since I did that the batt life has been much better, good luck.

thanks, I'm going to try redoing the install and this battery calibration. I'm actually trying to decide on whether to keep 1.7 remix or go stripped.
So I think my slowness was from putting the governor to power saver. It runs much better with smartass. I basically understand what the other governor settings do, but what does smartass do?

Basically, it sets the min and max as needed... like when its sleeping, it'll set the min at 245 mhz. At least that's what I understand lol

Also, there's a free app on the market called battery calibration by NeMo.. it'll let u kno when its charged to 100% and then it'll wipe it batt stats for ya.
Hope this helps

question about kernals, I installed bamf stripped so I don't have sense anymore. Can I still install the Adrynalyne kernals in kernal manager labeled "Sense" or do I need to find stock versions?

charged it to full last night, and with very light use it's at 27% after 4 and a half hours. I think I'd get to almost 6 hours if I let it run down.
That's some improvement but I think it may have more to do with not playing plants vs zombies any this time. The battery now gets fairly hot when playing PvZ when it didn't before.
I'm not sure what the problem is but I cannot live with only getting 4-6 hours of life out of a phone. I think I'm going to have to try a non-bamf rom.
I got around 14-16 hours on that ROM. What kernel/radio are u running? I also kept WiFi and Gps off when I wasn't using it. I also had min/max at 245/1.402.

I'm running 4G and keep wifi and gps off too along with the brightness being around 20. when I was non-rooted I got about 14-16 also (counting 7 hours of idle at night) I have my settings set to the same as before I was rooted. I'm running whatever kernal/radio came with sripped bamf 1.7. I had applied the MR1 update OTA unrooted when it came out but otherwise haven't changed anything regarding kernal or radio.

it shows the display at about 40-50%, 20 for car home screen (I have it on and streaming music during my 25 minute right to work, seems high but it's not on any more than that and the drain is still pretty constant). For instance, I charged it up to about 29% and it drained to zero and shut down while I was at lunch over about an hour an a half.
Looking at my currant widget log. I started at 29% at 11:43 then dropped 1% of battery every 2-3 minutes or so (while idle in my pocket) then it hit 8% at 1:03pm and stayed there till 1:08 at which point it shut down.
Just to add my $.02 ... I'm running BAMF 1.7. I don't mess with kernel settings or anything like that, just whatever comes with the non-remix 1.7 ROM.
Prior to last week, I was getting a good 15 hours on my stock battery (light - moderate usage), but something changed last week and I am getting pretty poor battery life now, like 6 - 8 hours.
I posted a reply over on a forum at Android Central but I haven't seen any definitive cause yet. Our theory is that an application update might be causing an issue. I was searching over here to see if anyone was having similar issues.
I'm getting much better battery life now. Got about 24 hours on 4G the whole time. I think it might have been because I was signed on to trillian but I still need to test. It's odd because before rooting I got 14-15 hours of 4G and I'm pretty sure I was signed on trillian then too.
Recently I have installed CyanogenMod 10.1 and Hiro Kernel 6.25 to get the most out of my battery. I re installed the recovery tool (not AmoRa but the other one) and flashed like neccesary. It seems that Battery Monior is always telling me that my battery exceeds 100degrees F. According to the power saver thread below his phone runs at about 250mAh, well mine sometimes reaches up to 1000mAH and gets drain insanely fast. I dont know what seems to be it?

fast drain
For battery drain problem, I'd first check for something syncing.
Not just mail and social apps, but some widgets constantly run
just being on the screen, like Stocks, YouTube, and many others.
Also, make sure GPS is off. And if 4G is spotty in your area, leave it on
3G to avoid hunting between 3G and 4G, which uses up battery.
Hope you find what it is....

that wasn't it at all, but thanks. It has something to do with the governors, kernel, or the way I installed something; because on a STOCK rom it works as it would work.

something was keeping your processor pegged.. you should pull the battery if its running that hot for that long a time. You can rupture the cells and cause real damage to the phone. the only time I've reach those temps/current levels was when I was trying to kill my battery for calibration.
That was Recording 1080P video, while streaming pandora over bluetooth, with google maps navigatoin running uploading photos and downloading my entire drobox at the same time
Something was REALLY wrong with that kernel/settings... I would stay far away from it
When I ran the last cm with hiro from 6/22 I believe my location never shut off, it was running for like 6 hours straight. Strangely I only lost like 25% battery over that time span, I figured it would've been dead. Haven't tried the latest hiro and cm combo yet
I'm facing horrible battery drain after marshmallow update. It drains (in idle mode!) around 5-8% per hour which is just unacceptable for me, especially that everything was great on lollipop (0-1% per hour).
I uninstalled every unuseful app (including system apps like google bloat). I'm not using facebook or other battery drainers. It drains even in flight mode (I tested it this night)!
I thought that my battery is just worn out, so I bought new one (original from LG). Of course, it doesn't help at all. Of course I tried full wipe (3 times).
Screenshoots (85% after ~10 min screen on and rest - ~2h) in idle - phone faced down = second screen was not turned on):
As you can see, my apps are not draining the battery.
I'm out of ideas, I tried greenify + amplify and ... nothing (I have galaxy s3 lte with cm13 + xposed and amplify, it's running 16 days and it still has 34%). It happened right after update to marshmallow (july). Now I'm on newest version (september - v20c).
Downgrade to lollipop with unlocked bootloader is not possible, right (it would be a pain comparing to MM's performance, but sometimes I need a phone which can stay in idle more than 2 days...)?

Did you try flashing v20c with lgup and option to clear everything? You can also try v20a - it has best battery life from all MM based firmwares. Also did you try booting in safe mode to see if the drain will be still there? Here is how to enter safe mode:
Ensure the device is powered off.
Press and hold the Volume Down button and the Power button until the System recovery screen is displayed then release both buttons.
Select Safe mode.
Note Use the Volume buttons to highlight the option, then press the Power button to select.
The device starts up with Safe mode displayed in the lower left.
Note This may take up to 1 minute to complete.

I had all versions installed and tbh all of them were the same if it comes to battery life. I don't expect something spectacular, but when my phone is draining 50% of battery when I'm in work (or by the night), then it's rather very irritating, especially when I know that on Lollipop everything was OK.
PS. It only affects standby mode. When I'm using my phone a lot, then SOT is same like one lollipop (4-4,5h).

I had a similar issue when I switched from G4 to V10. My cause was restoring from a G4 back up. Well fixed the issue by resetting the phone, not using LG Restore, and installed minimum app at a time. Now Im getting acceptable battery life. I also notice restoring Waz or Whatsapp makes these apps not fiction correctly, they should always be reinstalled from plat store.
So if you restore again install from the play store not from backups few apps at a time. I know its a pain but worked for me.

I think that I found the reason of draining. It's memory card. I have Sandisk Ultra 64GB, when I put it off from the phone for a night, I lost only 5% with full sync, wifi and LTE. They changed a lot of code of memory card management in MM. I will try with Adata 64GB later.

I'm using titanium backup, but it's not a case too, because it was draining before restore too.
Remove SD card and check.
I saw with "adb shell top -m 10" that android.process.media used 10% of cpu ...
My V10 was not only draining battery fast but also getting very hot after ROM upgrading. Give it some days and everything will be fine again. Try: full charge - full discharge until it cannot start anymore, and full charge again (only one round not more).
had the same problem after update to 20c - also had sandisk 128gb sd card. I removed it restarted telephone and now it is 3-6% at 3 hour use at standby. After update with sd card i had 20-30% of battery down at 3 hour.
Before update i did not have this problem.
OK, it's 100% MM fault.
Downgrading to LP is possible. I downgraded, restored all apps, installed xposed + amplify and now battery is dropping, well... 1% per 3 hours in idle. Performance is worse than on MM, but... battery is perfroming A LOT better.
Anyway, I will wait till 7.0 update.

I have an Unlocked AT&T LG V10 and I use another carrier SIM on it. I have not received any software updates via OTA even when LG Bridge shows that am update is available to download via OTA. Currently I am on 6.0 MM H90020J and I am experiencing severe battery drain both when using and on idle. Losing 20 to 30% overnight 8 to 12hrs.
I would like to know that if I flash the latest update manually from LG UP or LG flashtool, will my V10 get locked back again or will it continue to be unlocked like now and get updated?
This is the first time I have got an LG smartphone and have not much idea about it. Help me out.
Hii!
My LG G2 mini D620r is 2 and a half years old, and most of that time everything was ok. But, since two months ago, I noticed that the battery is draining much faster than usual. And also discharge wasn't happening continuously, but it had sam jums i.e. I would use phone for some ammount of time, and the battery gauge would show decrease in capacity of only a couple of percents, and then suddenly it would drop couple of percents more for no reason. Also I noticed that phone wouldn't charge up to the max. It would show that it is 100% full, but after only couple of minutes of idling it would drop to 97%.
After all that I thought that there was a problem with the battery and bought a new one. But it din's solve the problem at all. Problem just continued to apper so I came to conclusion that there was no problem with a battery.
I read somewhere that Android battery gauge can go crazy after certain ammount of time, and my phone in quite old.
So my question is:
Does anyone know what is the solution to the aforementioned problem?
Does this problem have anything with battery gauge?
And if it does, can it be solved by reflashing the stock ROM?
I forgot to mention that I'm using stock Android Lollipop 5.0.2, software version V20b-EUR-xx. Phone is rooted.

A few options you can try, cuz i had the same problem on my d620r:
- Calibrate your battery;
- Uninstall/rootuninstall bloatware by LG/google, and apps you don't need;
- Use Facebook Lite;
- Use Greenify and Amplify (ideally with xposed framework);
- You can try reflashing stock after full wipe, but i dont think it will fix your problems;
- Best solution > Flash a custom rom and do all the things above.
I didn't have that problem on stock, but on CM13. I was running xposed framework with lots of modules, V4A in the background and a custom kernel, but still, i don't think that was the drainage problem. I'm still using the battery that came with the phone, and flashing Resurrection Remix Nougat 7.1 by mobiusm, governor on ondemand and greenify almost doubled my battery life since cm13!

In september, I flashed CM 13 snapshot from august, and I noticed some bugs with it so I returned to stock Lollipop. I think that's when the problems started. Since then I have used Battery Calibration app (if you know some better apps of that kind please do recommend), installed Greenify, but not Amplify and removed some of the preinstalled LG/Google bloatware, but not all. I do not use Facebook app at all. After all that it came to my mind to do full phone wipe and maybe that would eliminate the problem.

I'd still recommend custom rom tho, preferably RR 7.1
And if you don't want a custom rom, make sure you are calibrating your battery correctly. By deleting the batterystats.bin file you dont really calibrate the battery, rather you reset the battery percentage meter. That is important of course, but before using the calibration app, make sure to do these steps:
Preparation: Hard reset the phone, root it again, install greenify (and amplify if you want), uninstall bloatware, charge to 100%. DON'T USE THE PHONE DURING THIS PROCESS FOR BEST RESULTS
1)Download Battery Waster and Battery Calibration from Play Store
2) Turn on battery waster (turn off flashlight option, it heats up the phone, turn on data, location and other battery consuming settings)
3)Drain battery to 0% until phone shuts down by itself.
4)When it shuts down, turn the phone back again for about 5 times
5)After those 5 or so times of turning on, put your phone on a charger without turning on (use wall charger if u can, and please use correct voltage of 5V)
6)When your phone shows full charge, unplug it and turn it on.
7)When you get to the homescreen, if you have less than 100% battery, plug in your charger again (without turning your phone off)
8)When it shows 100%, unplug your phone
9) Turn on battery waster
10) Let it turn off by itself
11) Do steps 4,5,6,7,8 again
12) Launch battery calibration app (root), and press calibrate
13) Restart phone
14) Greenify your apps and enable agressive doze in settings
NOTES: If on step 4 your phone sucessfully boots again without immediately shutting down, just continue draining your battery until it shuts down.
TIP: Keep between 40% and 80% battery
Hopefully your battery is like new again and free of its problems, but again flashing a custom rom other than fixing your battery, might even boost it, and custom kernels might boost it even more! (If configured right, that is).
IF YOU DECIDE TO FLASH A CUSTOM ROM, PLEASE DO THIS REGARDLESS
I hope I helped you!
Thank you very much @kasa ssg!
If this doesn't help, then there's no way to help me at all.
EDIT: Finally I found some time to do a recalibration of my phone's battery, and I think it worked. It definitely lasts longer now than before calibration. Also I returned to my phone's original battery that came with it first time it was bought.
I have had my Tab S3 for 3years now. Bought brand new from Amazon Prime Day.
Last night it just randomly slowed down and proceeded to a boot loop. Went on to boot to recovery and cleared cache and davlik cache. Still very very slow, CPU feels warm then reboot. Proceeded to factory reset still the same problem. Today I decided to flash latest stock firmware manually via odin still the same problem despite that.
Do you guys think the tablet is dying?
You can try flashing a custom ROM and see if it is better. Else, it could be running in it's last leg, which could be caused by a dying battery if the battery life is also short. And you could try replacing the battery.
Also install aida64 app in Google play and see if the CPU usage is normal.

Back is warm and the very slow than usual processing as evidenced by choppy annimation anr random reboots if the tab just can't take it. Could the dying battery just cause the thermal throttling? Couldn't even get my tablet to connect to the internet to download aida64. It'll just reboot.
Will apps crash or 'unfortunately has stopped' before reboot?
Also bad battery can cause severe problems on iPhones but for Android, I don't know.

No. It'll just reboot once it starts up on desktop. It runs very choppy and even when I'm not using it (no wifi, no auto-sync, no location), it reboots.
Are you on stock ROM?
Can you actually get it up and running for like 5 minutes, even if it lag like crap?
