Stuck in a bootloop - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So my phone is stuck in a bootloop after flashing a rom.
I know I just need to get into recovery mode and delete cache and data however I can't do that without the help of adb.
The problem is adb won't recognize my phone/usb and I don't know what to do. Help would be greatly appreciated.
Btw I am using a lenovo a5000

Is it possible that pushing volume up is how you make the selection? Does the device reboot when you press volume up? I know on some devices, volume down allows you to choose your option, example: reboot/recovery/bootloader options. Then pressing volume up chooses that selection.

If you can highlight the recovery selection, press power to select or press volume up to select.

Nothing happens, that's the problem, when I am in the selection screen I can only move to highlight options but whichever I choose I still stay in that screen until I forcefully exit by rebooting or the battery dies

If your power led is still on...
try to press power button for at least 10 sec (force a hard reset).
Power led should go off afterwards.
Then try again to get in to recovery mode by pressing vol down + power button.
What happens?

[Q] Help! Messed with 'Simulate Secondary Display' settings!

Hi,
I'm new to xda, I was on CM10.1 nightly build 29th Dec, and I was just checking the dev options to see what was what. When I changed
the 'Simulate Secondary Display' settings the phone just froze. It's perfectly fine, everythings there, it's just that when I boot it, it shows the boot logo and when its about to show the home screen it freezes. I know its not bricked, and I know all I have to do is change the Dev Options. Could
someone plz tell me how? I actually have important messages and pictures that I don't want to lose.
Thanks in advance

Flash a different rom like stock based custom rom and install cm10.1 again if you want to
Thankfully I had a fairly recent Titanium Backup so I only lost a small amount of data + time. I hope you manage to find a solution as you said you have important messages and all.
Wiping cache doesn't help. I'm still stuck. :crying:
--- Edited ---
My itchy hand touch that setting as well. Stuck at CM10.1 boot screen.
Solution: Just boot into recovery, wipe cache and reboot. Done and everything working as usual.
Same question
I wiped cache and davkit cache in recovery but no luck
I would like to know the function of this option

Yes. I just found this thread because i also locked my S2 activating "second display" and looked for a way to boot up in safe mode.
1. Turn off your phone by long pressing the Power button.
2. Press Up/Down Volume buttons (yes, both) and Power button at the same time.
3. Keep pressing all 3 buttons until boot-up image appears.
4. Release Power button while still pressing volume buttons (not sure if this is mandatory, but worked on my phone)
5. Phone will boot-up with "Safe-mode" badge in the lower-left corner of your screen.
Now go to Settings-Developer options and disable Second Display. After that, just reboot and you should be fine.

confirmed flash 10.1 nonofficial then re flash DOES work
anybody try a restore?? seemed to work for me except i only had an ancient one... plus the safe mode trick seems better unless you just made a backup
im on rezound infected 2.2 JB 4.2.2 by the way and safe mode didn't seem to work but i just read the part where you hold volume buttons after letting go of the power button. so that might work for rezounds still

Seems not to work on HTC Desire Z. In a 3 seconds after holding volume buttons and power button, LED lights up in green and remains in this state. Using Jelly Baby 1.5.0.
Any other way?
EDIT: I found one. Turn on the phone and when on HTC logo, hold S button on QWERTY keyboard until home screen show up.

different phone, different method. the above applies to i9100.
glad you found a way for your HTC.
I wasn't able to boot into safe mode for some reason (HTC Evo with non-stock ROM). My solution was to use adb to edit the settings sqlite database.
Here is the guide I found: blog.jbit.net/2013/01/android-settings-reset-using-adb.html

[Q] Recovery Menu

Hi All.
I might be missing the obvious here but how do you get into recovery on these things?
I've read loads of posts and tried various combinations with Vol+/- and Power, Wait for the light then do the same..... Nothing!!
I've put root on it it but left the bootloader looked. The device says I can unlock it if I want. It's the 16GB Wifi model (UK)
Any ideas where I'm going wrong?
Thanks

Maybe you;re mixing the fastboot method and cwm method on your head..
if you're question is how will you get to recovery then my answer is VOL UP.
power on your xtz and when the "SONY" shows up simply spam the vol up and you're good :good:

LOL, I even ended up on the Urban Dictionary... I'm thinking..Oh no, it's one of those young people phrases again!!
Thanks again for the help though, I'll get that dual recovery installed I think. I'm not even planning on flashing it. I just want a good backup.
Hello Zach181,
have succeeded in holding the vol up ?
I have the same trouble and can't access the recovery mode.
press power on
wait for the sony logo to appear
hold the vol up button
but nothing happens, it boots in the normal way.
thanks
Let's try to make it clear.
The device does not come from factory with any button combination that can get you into any recovery.
You need to flash a custom recovery first.
The process for "XZDualRecovery" is to wait a second after the sony logo appears and then when the notification light turns green hold Volume Up for CWM, Volume Down for TWRP.
Might be different for other recoveries, but at least try this method.
Let me clear it too...
its NOT HOLD
but SPAM or KEEP PRESSING

I must admit that I have put it in fastboot but only if holding from the power on and not pressing repeatedly. I've been too engrossed with my new toy to try much but I will sort recovery today.
So what we are saying is...
No recovery Installed
Power and hold Vol up = Fastboot
Recovery Installed
Power (Wait for light) Vol up = CWM ---- Vol Down = The other one (Forgot the name)
That still leaves us with fastboot mode with recovery. Would that be as I said at the beginning of this post... Power on and hold Vol Up straight away (Don't wait for the light)

I didn't do anything. The phone was in my pocket and when i took out to make a call I saw nothing was on the screen. Only the LED on top was blinking.
So i pressed the power button to switch OFF and ON. After that it never turned ON.
Also I had rooted the phone before using the King Root App. But never installed a Custom ROM.

After you get no command screen try to press power and volume up button or power and volume down button.
Try holding the power button for few seconds. Of no success then you need to flash a custom recovery (TWRP) using YGDP and thn zip rom. Or stock rom using YGDP.
