Hi guys
I have a D6502 which I bought a few months ago, I'm now on 5.02 Rooted, modded and it's just great
I'm a power user (not as naughty as I once was) and to be honest I'm satisfied with Sony's stock unlike other OEMs', however, I have tested CM 12.1 on an S III and I liked it's animations and the UI, it's very sweet :victory:
I now would like to test CM 12.1 on my D6502 and in order to do so, I'll need to unlock the BL, I have already checked the status and it's unlockable, and I have already dumped the TA partition. The question I have now is that, will I lose some functionality if I unlocked the bootloader regardless of dumping the TA partition, or it's enough to reflash the TA partition and my phone will be just like it was before unlocking the BL?

I used to think like you too. I'm using my Sony Xperia™ Z2 (D6503) with unlocked bootloader for a long time now and I didn't notice any missing feature. Pretty much everything works, except one thing: I don't receive OTA updates. So, "Update Center" app is just junk for me.
Yes, reflashing the TA partition would restore your DRM keys, but under one condition: You MUST have a STOCK kernel installed. Only then you can reflash your TA partition back. If you have a custom kernel installed and you try to reflash your TA partition which you've backed up a while ago, you'd end up having big troubles, fyi.
I unlocked the BL on my Z2, I used CM12.1 for a few days, it was great, but I felt the battery was better on Stock ROM, I flashed my TA backup and everything was fine.
However, I have now unlocked it again

Just an extension on your post. You need stock kernel, stock FOTAKernel, and stock based ROM. Bootloops are a sure thing else.

Don't try to restore without any devs guidance. Because its results for hard brick.

With BL still unlocked? What does your service test > security look like? I've backed up prior to unlocking and then restored after unlocking. Should I relock my bootloader as well?

You will lose DRM keys which I believe is required for trackid. Bravia engine... Nope
Sent from my PAC-ed LT18i.
Press the thanks button if I helped.
Lost my Bravia, TrackID, and download track info on JB. Seems like it's permanent, too, but I haven't restored pre-unlocked TA and relocked bl yet. Some say that works.

You will lose bravia engine but track id can work.Just re-download it from play store and it would work.I have working track id and download music info in walkman(latest walkman).
No,you will not lose them permanently.Check this thread.I didn't tried it but i am sure it will work.

Its not permenent, Dont Worry.
I got my DRM keys back with working BE and Track id.
You can get your DRM keys back by Flashing Relock for your device by Including TA partition during flash.

Yes I'd surely help you out.
I've followed the steps from here ---> [Backup Your TA Partition Before You Unlock Your Bootloader]
The above steps apply if you have not unlocked your bootloader.
_______________________________________________________________________________________
If you have unlocked it,
Follow the steps below.
What you Need?
Flashtool
Stock ROM for Your Phone Model Download Stock ROMS from Here ---> Stock Xperia U XDA
Relock File for your phone
How to proceed :
Using flashtool
First flash only the STOCK ROM Using Flashmode
(Exclude TA Partition In The Right Hand Side Options In Flashmode)
After A Complete Flash
Reboot The Phone Let it Settle Down A Bit
Now Again Using Using Flashtool
Flash The Relock File For Your Phone, Relock File ----> [HERE]
(This Time Include TA partition)
Flash!
Reboot
Your Phone Will Be As Good As New
I hope this information helps.
Do reply with your progress.

Of course you can, root access just allow you to install mod or edit system files. There are no conflict between unlocked bootloader and root access

You need the unlock code from Sony.
http://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/
Use the blu (bootloader unlock) function from flashtool.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746
Edit....it wipes everything so back up what you want to save, and a nandroid made before unlocking will relock. Use an app like titanium backup or mybackup pro.

Ladies and gents,
Any downsides on unlocking bootloader?
Is Camera working properly? TrackID? Others?
All works perfectly... tested on E2303
@alby_var
I tried to unlock. However, I believe once you´re on fastboot mode, Flashtool should recognize your device (mydevices) and your ulcode.txt.
Field came blank. Did not work. My flashtool is 19.0, so I don't have a "custom" folder. It's C:\User\.flashtool\mydevices\BY900FGM8D\ulcode.txt, and I don't know if this is right (I mean, device and ulcode are right; I wonder about the folder).
Edit: Solved. New folder and ulcode.txt should go to C:\Users\YourUser\.flashtool\registered Devices

you may not see the difference, but the quality will be bad - transfer the pics to a computer and check the quality , and your warranty is void now.
Of-course, you will lose your DRM keys
You can check your DRM Keys at *#*#SERVICE#*#* (in your phone dial pad type *#*#7378423#*#*) >Service Test>Security and check if all the entries says "Key OK" then you are good and have not lost anything. If any entry says "Unknown" then you have lost that particular DRM Key.
Can you check and show a screenshot with Drm keys lost?

you can check this post below for any more details
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2765813
Edit: Once you unlock your boot loader, the DRM Keys are lost, the only what to recover is to make a backup of your TA partition.
To make a backup of the TA partition you need root access. That means you should root your phone even before you unlock the bootloader.
You cannot use the TA backup of a different phone (same model or not), as this will permanently brick your phone and cannot be repaired. the TA backup has to be of your phone only as the DRM Keys are unique to each phone.

Sony uses Marlin in the PlayStation Network, allowing users of the video download service to share purchased or rented content on PS3, PS4 and PSP systems.

My Advice, dont even think of unlocking your Bootloader, with out a TA Backup, wait for a root exploit to be identified and take a backup of the TA partition, before you do anything.
I had a bad experience on my Xperia Z, after UB, the camera software has some code to check for DRM Keys and if they are missing, the App still works, but the picture quality was BAD, i mean really BAD a lot of noise in the pictures. unfortunately i did not backup the DRM Keys, so my warranty was void and had to live with a bad camera when using stock firmware. I move to CyanogenMod after that for some decent picture quality.
Hello!
I am going to root my honor 7, but i have some clarification questions first. Hopefully someone could kindly help me.
So, this is the procedure:
Unlock Bootloader
Flash TWRP Recovery
Install SuperSu from TWRP
My questions are:
1 - Is there a way to check if the bootloader is just unlocked on the H7? (I remember the "hidden menu" from Xperias)
2 - If i want to update to MM when it will be released, i need to unroot B170 (is it enough to select "Unroot" from SuperSU app?) and flash stock recovery. Is this enough?
3 - why should i need the stock boot.img? What is it exactly? Is it the bootloader? Flashing stock boot.img back does it mean that simply the bootloader will be locked again?
Thanks so much for the clarifications!

1 - I do not wish to check it now, but I remember if you reboot into bootloader there is a text indicating the status
2 - You need to have an unmodified system (and boot) for the OTA to work, so it could be safer to restore stock system.img and boot.img completely.
3 - I don't really know, hopefully somebody else will be able to answer. Last time I did an unroot+OTA upgrade, I did not have to restore stock boot.img.

the boot.img contains the kernel, and this is sometimes modief during a system update, and different version dont wpork on a certain firmware
for example, b140 and b170 use same kernel, as the on-or kernel by @sminki works (almost, but probably) fine, whoever, for what i know, it doesnt work on b121, because the kernel is different,
the latest full firmware is b121, so to downgrade or to unbrick, you need to install b121, so the boot.img also needs to be flashed, if you want it to boot
i hope that will explain it better
also to root, you can use the multitool by @inside!out, if you are not confident, or just too lazy:

last question, if i am rooted and unlocked, will i at least recieve the updates notification via emui?
