Of course you can, root access just allow you to install mod or edit system files. There are no conflict between unlocked bootloader and root access

You need the unlock code from Sony.
http://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/
Use the blu (bootloader unlock) function from flashtool.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746
Edit....it wipes everything so back up what you want to save, and a nandroid made before unlocking will relock. Use an app like titanium backup or mybackup pro.

I'm fairly new to xda and android and i would like to root my atrix and install cwm.
Can someone give me a link to the easiest way to root the atrix that works with 2.3.4?
And also, by using any of the rooting methods will I lose any data at all on my phone(like contacts, pictures, apps, etc.)?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255548
rooting won't cause you to lose data, but unlocking the bootloader will put you in a stock state.
THANKS!
thank you so much for that link!
I just rooted it and it was super easy. I was kind of intimidated by the complicated steps that I saw over on another website.
Thanks again!
I just need help installing cwm now, and honestly, i have no idea where to start.
All help appreciated!

do you have AIM or MSN? i'll walk you through the steps to unlock your bootloader and install CWM.
I actually never understood what unlocking the bootloader did.
And as for CWM, is it supposed to look like this?

Sorry, another question
Just one more question.
Does applying a theme from CWM wipe your phone?
What about applying a rom? Would that wipe your phone?

you have to unlock your bootloader before you can get CWM on a motorola atrix, unfortunately. to do so, you'll need to flash pudding from the development section and run the fastboot oem unlock script in fastboot mode
after that, you can fastboot flash a recovery. you'll get into CWM by booting up into recovery mode, the same way you boot into fastboot mode or RSD mode.
installing a theme won't wipe your data, no. and for your other question, that isn't CWM recovery; it will look more like this: http://www.theandroidsoul.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/ClockworkMod-Recovery-31.png
Fruit cakes and CWM question
I have a similar question.
A helpful explanation from a dev/member http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136261&page=48 explains how to unlock and root.
However, he says to add ROM Racer's CWM and 2 Fruitcakes/
What are Fruit Cakes? What do they do?
Yes, applying a rom wipes your phone, but you can back up all youre contacts a and data and apps with things like titanium backup and my backup pro. After flashing a rom you can restore your apps and data. hope this helps.

Fruitcakes allow you to get your phone back to "stock" via CWM, instead of having to flash an sbf. If you have an official update of GB on your phone, with an unlocked bootloader, you can brick your phone by trying to flash a pre-GB sbf. Read that thread and you'll get a much better understanding of why they are a very good thing.
Simply put, they are a safe way to get your phone back to out-of-box condition, but with an unlocked BL.
this is an excellent tutorial video on how to unlock your boot loader he even shows you how to re lock it, even though i haven't re locked it.

ok i've a few querstions?
1. Are you rooted? ( Perhaps yes? )
2. Have ever installed custom ROM or on stock ROM?
CMW or clock work mod recovery is a tool which enables you to install roms and apps and much more at the boot time..
if you haven't perform backup and installed cmw then only thing left would be to flash cmw and reset factory.. or you can flash official stock ics firmware ( download here ) via flash tool.... you didn't understand fully, right? yeah its common among newbies... reply me and i'll tell you what to do next,,,
now i understand...
ok, i'll try to flash

Just search for the ftf of your land on google and flash it with flashtool.
Or try restoring origianl software using pc comapnion or sony ericsson update service...#
BTW: Did you unlock bootloader? Cause then your warranty is void, and to flash firmware using flashtool bootloader unlock isn't necessary!

Yes and yes. You will lose root and you will get locked. Unlock it the same way you unlocked it now....If you buy a unlock code from your service provider than it will be forevermore...

Both procedures are fairly simple. Read the instructions well have a good idea of what and how you are going to do the procedure.
AND when you use Odin make sure repartition is NOT ticked!!!!!!! NOT ticked.
Thats it good luck

Try Settings -> About device -> Software update and switch off Auto update and then reboot. Might work though I'm not positive because the phone already knows there's an update now. Alternatively, install it!

back up your TA partition
then unlock your bootloader
start using custom roms like CM, AOKP, Paranoid etc...
I did the unlock the bootloader and installed the ROM Aur ver 3.7...
I heard it can make the superior auto mode runs on 20mpix.... how to do it... thanks

You can accomplish this under any ROM as long as you have the Xposed framework installed. Search for the module "20MP SuperiorAuto", install and enable it and then reboot.

I just posted in this thread. the 20mp auto (enabled through the xposed mod) is not better quality than the 20mp manual.

If you want the 20mp, set it to manual, centre weighted exposure. Auto white balance is pretty good for most situations.
If you just rooted the phone and haven't jumped to a non-stock ROM, then there's a small laundry list I did:
-Install F-Droid and Adaway
-Install Xposed framework
-Install Greenify
-Install Titanium Backup
-Use Titanium Backup to backup and uninstall bloat system apps (like "What's New")
Root opens up a lot more freedom for the phone. Xposed in particular is fantastic for changing just about anything.
Newbies should know, you don't need to unlock your bootloader to have fun. Root and try the xposed mods.

Yep it's unlocking the bootloader that voids your warranty, and unless you wish to install a custom kernel based rom is unnecessary.
One of the reasons I used to root ( not anymore, I'm kinda bored) was to install Dsploit and wifikill to have some fun with unsecured WiFi networks.
Add adblock, titanium backup. Bloat freeze (Sony phones have the least).
Have some themes.

I hope you did a TA backup before you unlocked your bootloader otherwise you have lost your DRM keys which is not reversible.
Beyond that I hope you enjoy your new Z2!
Hello!
I am going to root my honor 7, but i have some clarification questions first. Hopefully someone could kindly help me.
So, this is the procedure:
Unlock Bootloader
Flash TWRP Recovery
Install SuperSu from TWRP
My questions are:
1 - Is there a way to check if the bootloader is just unlocked on the H7? (I remember the "hidden menu" from Xperias)
2 - If i want to update to MM when it will be released, i need to unroot B170 (is it enough to select "Unroot" from SuperSU app?) and flash stock recovery. Is this enough?
3 - why should i need the stock boot.img? What is it exactly? Is it the bootloader? Flashing stock boot.img back does it mean that simply the bootloader will be locked again?
Thanks so much for the clarifications!

1 - I do not wish to check it now, but I remember if you reboot into bootloader there is a text indicating the status
2 - You need to have an unmodified system (and boot) for the OTA to work, so it could be safer to restore stock system.img and boot.img completely.
3 - I don't really know, hopefully somebody else will be able to answer. Last time I did an unroot+OTA upgrade, I did not have to restore stock boot.img.

the boot.img contains the kernel, and this is sometimes modief during a system update, and different version dont wpork on a certain firmware
for example, b140 and b170 use same kernel, as the on-or kernel by @sminki works (almost, but probably) fine, whoever, for what i know, it doesnt work on b121, because the kernel is different,
the latest full firmware is b121, so to downgrade or to unbrick, you need to install b121, so the boot.img also needs to be flashed, if you want it to boot
i hope that will explain it better
also to root, you can use the multitool by @inside!out, if you are not confident, or just too lazy:
