S4 screen repair parts question - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

While using my gs4 i545 the other evening I noticed my screen was half working and half black. The phone was never dropped. After powering the phone off I can see t
cracks across the screen from my power button to the volume button. The phone still powers on but the screen is completely black now. My question is, do I need to fully replace the lcd along with the digitizer or just the glass? No liquid appears to be leaking. I have broken a screen before but it continued to work, this one does not. I do not wish to send the phone back for repairs as I have files in the internal memory I need to recover. Thank you for any advice.

Ive replaced a couple of them and found the best/easiest way is to get the screen/digitizer frame assembly and change it out yourself.
Where I get parts from the screen is currently $110

[Q] Touch Screen not working but display is

So my phone is in perfect condition i've had it under a month there has been no major damage to it, it looks new and has been in an otterbox all its life with another screen protector on it.
But when i woke up this morning the touch screen wouldn't respond. I could use all the buttons and they worked i could even pull up s voice by holding the home button and then pressing back button and get to android home menu with the app. But the touch screen would not detect my fingers at all.
I don't see how its possible it has got any damage it is in perfect condition.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I think i read somewhere about resetting the digitizer?
And as far as resetting it to factory and or going to a different firmware. Since i cannot access my apps i cannot really backup my phone and it has really important info that i can't lose. So i'm stuck in between 2 walls and i am screwed.. Any suggestions?
Oh and i also removed the otterbox and screen protector to make sure nothing trapped underneath it was causing interference. No luck. :crying:

if not rooted send it for warranty, and if it is rooted unroot it first and check download mode status before claiming warranty.
use a usb otg cable and usb mouse to navigate the screen.
You can make a backup using adb

My phone is in the shop for that and beeing repaired, probably a digitizer malfunction (hardware related). Buttons work but touch does not work. Send it in for repair. They will replace the whole screen.

Installed Working Digitizer now doesn't work

My wife dropped her S3 and broke part of her digitizer so I knew I had to replace it. I found one on ebay and it was delivered days later. First thing was hooking the screen up for testing before pulling the phone completely apart. With screen attached the phone boots up success the touch screen works. I shut the phone down, pull it apart, remove broken screen, attach new screen and reassemble...Phone boots and looks great but now the touch screen doesn't respond!!!
WTF is going on?! I tested the thing before hand. Used a hair dryer so there wasn't any excess heat and used kitten gloves during assembly.
Any idea what I can do to get the touch screen to start working again?
TLR - Tested digitizer before installing after installation complete touch screen doesn't work.
the only possible answer you're gonna get is that you did something wrong. and there's no way for us to know what. so try again

[Q] Help! broke scree

So dropped phone and screen went out. Replaced amoled and digitizer, device powered on and lit up home keys, but no display still. Replaced main board, in case video was out on board, but no joy. Any thoughts? No custom software or anything....
Maybe you didn't clip on the ribbon cables all the way. Or, just try pulling the battery and booting it again.
When I replace my screen, screen didn't work for first few boots.

I checked and checked, digitizer works, I can reboot and swipe unlock, adjust volume, but no screen. At this point I'm thinking bad LCD. Thoughts?
Thx for response and ideas though....
I bought a replacement but ut was a cheap fake, not an OEM screen. It went purple then black within 10 minutes. I got my money back (thank you PayPal) and made sure the next one was an OEM screen.
I hope you didn't spend too much on the repair parts. You can pick up a new Note for about $290 now.

[Q] Broken LCD(Can something else done?)?

Hello. Today I get SGS3 from my aunt. SGS3 fell on floor. At first there was some white lines, then half of screen became blue, then the LCD shut down. It isn't working now.
I have a question. Could anything else be broken? I opened phone and i see, that there isn't nothing that could "destroy" LCD.
P.S. Phone boot up, I hear the sound, no view on screen.
You won't know until you replace the screen assembly, probably easier to buy a new phone.

Still, phone would boot if there is broken GPU?

Touch screen stopped working

I tried to replace the front glass, (not very successful). I got the front glass off, but the LCD was still stuck to the screen, even after heating it up with a hair dryer. at first, none of the buttons except for power and VolUp and VolDn were working, so I took apart the phone completely, (MB, and screen/bezel assembly as one unit) and noticed that a connecter came loose on the touch screen link to the lower buttons. I got the home, menu, and back buttons to work again, but I still can't use the touch screen at all. It simply doesn't recognize input. Is there a way to fix the touch screen? It displays everything fine, but input via touch is now impossible. Is there a connecter that I may have missed? I would like to not spend $71 if I don't have to buy a new front screen/bezel assembly
You have a hardware fault caused by overheating the digitizer, replace the hardware.
It's quite common after screen replacement, which is why the screen assembly is the sold in one piece.

Well, now that I tore it apart again, and put it back together, the phone won't turn on at all. ****. Now it looks like I'm going to have to buy one. I'm now back to my backup phone, which is a i997 flashed with CM11 (unofficial) 4.4.4. Do you think I EMPed it by accident? Even plugging it in, it won't signify charging at all.
