I'll try and make this simple because I sucke at explaining myself lol
EVERY ROM I try I have major issues, to simplify
If the rom has working native tether and it's normal speed (30+mbs) I have NO sms, I can send all day but not receive.
If a ROM has perfect working SMS like stock B1 or what ever one I just odined back on then tether won't work. Even with WiFi tether router app...it works the first time then never again.
I was just using CM12.1 KLTE from their site and all was perfect until today ZERO ability to receive texts/sms I can't win.....I just want basic functions and tether at normal speeds...my network speed with CM12.1 I was averaging 40+mbs all day...I'm within a mile of 3 LTE towers
When tether does not work I average 0.12mbs....yes dile up is faster....
Any Rom out there that has both...I've even tried variety like Galaxy Project...I can't find the perfect rom.
I don't need millions of tweaks and customized features....
GPS
Tether
Basic phone fetures calling texting browsing
That's it
Any advice is appreciated...I'm not dumb I've rooted and installed hundreds of roms over the years but this is beyond me...maybe S5 is pos lol

hello, i am intrested in these muiu roms but have not installed one because i like having the ability for wifi calling to save plan minutes at night before 9. is there a stable rom out there that is muiu that has a working wifi calling app in it that works. would love gps to work but if i didnt have it it wouldn't be the end off the world. it never worked that great anyway.
XDA, you really are my last hope.
I use my phone as my primary internet device. Tethering works fine for 15 mins and then one of two things happens:
1) Computer doesn't load webpages (stuck on looking up....). Have to turn my computer's wifi off and on again.
2) Tethering is still 'on' but the hotspot vanishes (have tested this on more than one computer) have to turn wifi off and on again.
Problem number two is by far the most frustrating but both are seriously annoying as I cannot play online games or download files and my girlfriend work is constantly interrupted.
I have tried:
1) using FoxFi - Works but same issues as native tethering software.
2) Rooting and using barnacle, wifi tether, OpenGarden WiFi (get 'could not set ad-hoc mode of wlan0: op. not supported on transport endpoint.)
3) Turning off fast dormancy (no difference).
4) Setting Wi-Fi to always on.
5) Turning off Wifi Power save mode.
6) Searching google, asking reddit, searching XDA, crying.
If you can fix this once and for all, I'll send you $10 over paypal (if that's not against the XDA T&Cs). I'm a poor student, but I am THAT desperate.
Many thanks.

Last one.
I don't have a solution for you, but I can share my experiences regarding the same problem you are having. I also tether a lot and for that, this phone has been awful thus far. I have pretty much given up on wifi tethering for now and am tethering using bluetooth since that seems to be working MUCH better for me. So do give bluetooth tethering a try too if it's possible for you.
I get random drop outs in my mobile data connection - this happens all the time, also when I'm not tethering. I have been trying out different modems to help with this, and now I have found a modem that works pretty well for me. I'm using XXDLIB firmware (Jelly Bean) and have found that the modem that works best for me is XXDLI4.
Maybe through additional testing of different modems I would be able to find one that works even better, but I've been doing this for a long time now and getting pretty tired of it!
Wifi tethering for me on DLI4 modem is now OK - not great, not even good - just OK. It feels much slower than bluetooth tethering and is still unreliable so I go with bluetooth for now.
Sorry if this wasn't helpful at all...
So apparently verizon has somehow modified the stock hotspot mode to try and contact them first for approval, hence products like Wi-Fi tether and Open Garden. However I really dislike the interface and feel of these apps, and their widgets are ugly. I have a nice beautiful theme going on and then SPLAT, some ugly out of proportion tether widget ruining the whole look. I'd really like to be able to get the native hotspot mode functioning. Does anybody know a way to do this? Or does it just have to be hacked by the dev's somehow to get a working apk or whatever that doesnt phone home to verizon for approval?
The Hotspot app that comes in a Verizon rom, is a paid feature.
The only way to have that app functioning, is to pay Verizon for the service.
I don't think there are many if any devs, willing to hack or modify that application to be used without paying for the service.
There are many ways to tether without devs doing anything illegal or unethical.
Just thought I would point out why you won't find that app working without paying for it.
Oh I understand how it works, I just remember in the early Sense leaks that team bamf or whoever had provided a working stock hotspot that didnt phone home to verizon for permission every time. Guess they abandoned that and just let people download wifi tether and such. I just always found the stock hotspot to be infinitely better than any 3rd party app. Aside from having a cleaner interface and functioning properly with the kernel/hardware, it was MUCH faster than other aps. I could easily get 15-20mbps with stock hotspot, now I'm lucky to get 2mbps with wifi tether.

All I know is that the built-in tethering feature works on the AOSP ICS ROM I'm running, and works well. I know what you mean about it being a simple, clean design, but what I miss is the ability to see who's connected and how much data you use.

3 Days after purchasing my phone from Sprint. I rooted, unlocked, S-OFF and put ViperMAX 1.0.1 my phone.
I mainly use my cell phone for wifi tethering for my other devices: asus transformer, ipad and laptop so wifi tethering is very important to me. I tested and used the native wifi app for about a week and found that the internet on my phone would go on and off from time to time making certain things like streaming and downloading files a big pain. I would lose connection all the time and it was a complete waste of my time trying to connect. I researched and applied every update and everything possible to get the native wifi tethering working but I never got the performance I wanted. I gave in and purchased this app for 2 bucks and followed the settings above. Everything works great!
After about 3 weeks of testing and using this app, I did want to make sure credit is given here. The app has stabilized my internet while broadcasting my wifi tethering and I can be tethering for hours without any worries. I've left the wifi tether app on for 10+ hours and because my internet connection was good, I was able to stream/download steadily for the entire 10+ hours. Note: This app reminds me of the old old wifi tether apk.
Only two things I would want from this app is maybe a function to change the background of the app and being able to usb tether with this app so I don't have to go through other apps to do so. Both are very minor things and my other all experiences with this app has been good. I hope this helps someone who has/or been having the same problems as me resolve the issue. *Remember to follow the steps from the first post EXACTLY*
Thanks to the initial post and the developer!
Does Grasso's app work with rooted, unlocked, S-OFF, stock ROM? Or must I have a custom ROM as well? Like many, I've had a rough time getting wifi tether to work on the One max.
Should be able to edit system\customize\ACC\default.xml and shouldnt have to remove an apps
I was using FoxFi while on JB but ever since I upgraded to KitKat it then said I needed a tethering plan. So I tried this app with your settings and it works like a charm. Thanks.
Just thought I would throw out a question. As a KitKat user with a custom ROM I enjoyed pretty seamless WiFi Calling capabilities on my Note 3. I recently loaded the AOKP Oreo ROM and happened to go to a place that didn't have signal (I must admit that isn't very hard to do in my area) and although I loaded Google Voice and could use that number on the local WiFi in the building to make and receive text and calls, I was curious if there was a way to load the native WiFi calling Sprint offers which lets me use my Sprint phone number. I tried downloading the Sprint WiFi APK v. 1 and v.2 but they didn't seem to work.
Anyone else have any thoughts? I am using Magisk now and even tried an old app that supposedly provides a direct way to activate the WiFi calling abilities but no luck there either.
I have my KK system backed up on TB and tried restoring the WiFi Calling app from there but it didnt seem to want to load either. Perhaps I am missing a companion app that needs to run as well?
All suggestions will be entertained!
