Hi,
I've been using my Gear S with my S5. Now I got a S6 edge and I want to migrate to my new phone.
Is there an easy way to do this ?
Thanks.
I have the same case and I need the solution too

Whenever the watch is paired to a new phone it requires factory reset..
Edit - even if you pair it to the same phone after factory reset, it requires factory reset on the watch..

Yeah that's one thing that bugs me... I need to reset my gear everytime I flash a new rom on my note 4... so annoying! Wish the backup feature handled this type of situation.

Good day,
I just purchased a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 GT P5100, and installed CM10.1 quickly.
I am just using this for reading and do not want any of those sim card detection or phone feature on my tablet.
I want to remove the Emergency call feature also.
Basically, I do not want my tablet to detect any GSM network for using the phone feature and also want to remove that Emergency call feature.
I want to remove the calling feature from my tablet.
Anyone knows how to? I am just using this tablet with WiFi. Thats all.
Bump
Again. Bump.
If you are rooted and you know somewhat what you're doing, you could try deleting the Phone.apk in /system/app. But only if you have a backup method in case something goes wrong.

After much prodding, Samsung admitted that neither of their tablets work with the Gear S officially. It's stupid, and the reason why I bought and am now returning my Tab.
Workarounds like the ones for non-Samsung devices are your only option.
All you can do is raise awareness on social media and hope they'll push updates to fix this.
you can't connect it with tablets as it will make you reset the watch over and over again. It is very annoying, I was going to connect it to my computer via bluetooth and use it as a microphone when i found out.
I was able to get 90% functionality by editing my build.prop on the Tab S. Of course this means you have to root the Tab S. I set the model to SM-N910A, which is an AT&T Note 4. I also had to change the characteristic to phone instead of tablet. Next I reset the Gear to factory and was able to pair it with Gear Manager. Email works perfectly and all apps seem to work. But, call forwarding and text do not work. I can use the Google SMS app if I add it to the notification in Gear manager but this does not provide for responding directly from the Gear S.
This is better than just Bluetooth connectivity and I am still working on how to get the remaining functions working. Also, I set the characteristic back to tablet after completely pairing to fix the force close when trying to get to the system settings menu on the Tab S. It doesn't seem to have any I'll effect of the Gear S but it is needed during the initial pairing with Gear Manager.

How did you get the build prop edits to stick after a reboot. What Specific Edits did you use.
ro.product.model=SM-N910A (stock is SM-T705) and ro.build.characteristics=phone (stock is tablet)
I used build prop editor from Play Store. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.apps.build.prop.editor
You have to choose menu, edit then edit the lines above for the edits to survive a reboot. I also have call forwarding working after a call to AT&T. They reassigned my IMEI from my note 4 to this number and it started working.

It looked like it was work, it reformatted it then downloaded some stuff now it's stuck on connecting to gear.
Glad to hear it. Make sure you change the ro.build.characteristics back to tablet or you will have FCs opening settings.

After a couple of reboots and removing it from pair it finally finished the install
Yes, I saw that happen as well. Figured out to cancel the first Bluetooth request and try again.

stilll no hope , i can't even find the gear s in the gear manager apps... i'm using tab 3 7.0 so maybe different with tab S...
I don't know for sure what is going on for you, but it requires both build.prop edits mentioned, a reboot of the Tabs S after the edits and resetting the Gear S to factory. This is what it took for me. The model you input must be a Gear S supported device name.

Folks,
Hope I can get help here before I have to send my S in for repair.
I have a Verizon Note 4 from Nov '14 and Gear S from a month ago. The S is an ATT from Samsung and worked fine until a few days ago. Now the S refuses to complete the Gear software installation it completed fine a month ago.
Did the Note 4 reset, reinstalled the Gear app, the Note 4 recognizes the S, the S acknowledges the 4 but never gets past the "waiting for the Samsung Gear app setup....
I waited overnight with no success.
I know the Verizon 4 may seem a mismatch with the ATT S, but it worked fine for over a month.
Any ideas?

How do you reset the watch?
I have reset the Note 4, and reboot the watch but am not aware of reseting the watch.
Thank you

go into the settings menu and select "Reset Gear"
Hard Reset
cipherswitch ,
I am unable to access the menu to reset the S but I did find a procedure to hard reset th S by pressing the power button for 10 seconds to enter reboot mode then press power button to bring up a selection of actions: ?, download; restore; power off. I selected restore to do a system restore to original.
Then attempted to reinstall the Gear osftware to the S. No luck. the Note 4 and S properly handshake but S hands up "Waiting for Gear setup".
It's going back.
Thanks
Id be more concerned as to why you couldnt get into the menu. Clearly we are missing some information here...

When your S was new, could you access the menu on the watch to go to settings to reset it?
This is how the S is behaving.
Hey, I just got the LG G5 today. I've been using the Gear S for less than a year with my S6 Edge with no problems at all (after changing from the LG G Watch R, Samsung seemed to lock out the old watch with a software update).
I've been trying for the past few hours to set up my Gear S with the LG, but nothing's working. I've tried what seems to be the 2 most popular methods and neither worked. The closest I got was pairing the 2 via bluetooth in the Gear app, the watch said it needed to reboot and factory reset. But then nothing. Just stuck in an unending connecting loop.
The G5 is running Android 6, I've heard that the Gear S has some problems with that.
I don't need full functionality for the Gear S, just call and text notifications (it will do the calls via a normal BT connection but not texts). I use it as a music player as well, but since that isn't tied to the phone, I know I'll have that no matter what.
I've also heard about possibly being able to install Android Wear on the Gear S. Is that possible?
Can someone please help?

Sorry to tell you this, but gear s is locked down to only specific sammy devices. The best option for you is to flash the wear port from the development section. Then you can use it as a AW device... hope this helps

I did see the threads about flashing it to android wear, but if I do that can I still okay music out of my Gear S speakers?
Both my wife and I use it to listen to music work the need for an additional Downe speaker. If it can, then great.

I have a stock ATT Note 4 which finally received the M update (yay!) except it kinda broke my gear s (boo!) Watch is working, as far as a watch goes, and still connects via bluetooth. However, I am not getting even one single notification for ANYTHING. I have not changed any settings. The only thing I've tried was a factory reset, which did nothing excpet lose my pedometer steps for today. Any clue? I really, REALLY miss getting those notifications...which is my primary use for my beloved Gear S. Please help!

This issue was solved by doing a factory reset on my watch. Oddly, it didn't start working properly until a couple hours later, but it does now give me notifications again! I hope this helps someone else that may be having the same problem.
