Gear S and LG G5 - Samsung Gear S

Hey, I just got the LG G5 today. I've been using the Gear S for less than a year with my S6 Edge with no problems at all (after changing from the LG G Watch R, Samsung seemed to lock out the old watch with a software update).
I've been trying for the past few hours to set up my Gear S with the LG, but nothing's working. I've tried what seems to be the 2 most popular methods and neither worked. The closest I got was pairing the 2 via bluetooth in the Gear app, the watch said it needed to reboot and factory reset. But then nothing. Just stuck in an unending connecting loop.
The G5 is running Android 6, I've heard that the Gear S has some problems with that.
I don't need full functionality for the Gear S, just call and text notifications (it will do the calls via a normal BT connection but not texts). I use it as a music player as well, but since that isn't tied to the phone, I know I'll have that no matter what.
I've also heard about possibly being able to install Android Wear on the Gear S. Is that possible?
Can someone please help?

Sorry to tell you this, but gear s is locked down to only specific sammy devices. The best option for you is to flash the wear port from the development section. Then you can use it as a AW device... hope this helps

I did see the threads about flashing it to android wear, but if I do that can I still okay music out of my Gear S speakers?
Both my wife and I use it to listen to music work the need for an additional Downe speaker. If it can, then great.

Samsung Grear live not detected by updated DN3 rom

With the new update on 11/07/2014 everything including GPS is working great with this rom. Great job done by lacoursiere18 in making this rom. However my new samsung gear live is not any more detected by the phone's bluetooth. But it does not have any problem in detecting and paring with my fitbit. When I rolled back to stock rooted 4.4.2 rom, gear live is paired immediately. Any thoughts on fixing this issue ?

Just throwing out a suggestion, bc I'm not sure if your watch does this or not -
I have DN3 installed on mine too, and have a Pebble myself. After reinstalling the Pebble app, I found that the watch was not wanting to pair up with the phone. I had to go into the watch itself and remove the previous pairing I had with the phone's old ROM for the Pebble app to pick it up again.
Does the Gear Live have something similar?

devious_z, thanks for the response. I do not see any configuration option to remove the BT pairing in my Samy Gear Live. Next time when I reinstall ND3, I will try to play with the reset option in my watch to see if that can resolve the problem of being detected by the phone.
This is a let down hopefully will be fixed...

Activate Gear S WITHOUT a Samsung Phone

Some folks asked about if it's possible to use it as a stand alone device without the need of activating it in the first place with a Samsung device. It is! (I read that easter egg trick somewhere else in XDA for the Gear 2, it works as well for Gear S)
1. Jump to the screen, where it's visible for Samsung Devices in activation process. You'll see the unique name of your Gear S and a small Watch Icon on the left of the name
2. Tap around 25-30 times on the Watch Icon
3. Now a short message appears saying something about bluetooth. Just ignore it, it will vanish after a few seconds
4. Now tap again on the watch icon but this time leave your finger on the screen for around 5 seconds
5. Voilà, your Gear S is now activated, you can't use it as a remote Smartwatch but as a phone watch at least.
Hope, someone figures out how to pair it with Tab S soon since this is my phone
So, i hope it pairs with my LG G2 without much hassle? Remote sharing probably wont work because it is using Samsung account?
What about all other functions, like notifications, call forwarding etc? Is i even possible to reply on your phone and send via Gear S for messages

If the Steps above don't work buy the watch in the store and have the store pair/ or you to pair it with the display Model of the Note 4 (A guy in the Gear S thread has an iphone and this worked for him) Everything should work as a regular phone besides downloading apps (that needs to connect to the gear manager) and updates ( needs gear manager) Search the Gear 2 thread (Pair with non-Samsung phone works the same for our watch) Tizen is the OS and it should all work the same

Got it. I have S4 mini, but it is 4.2.2. I am afraid if the old version will not support.

You should be able to upgrade to 4.4.2. I borrowed the s4 mini to set it up Sunday and its on 4.4.2.
Just tried this trick out and I'm happy to say it works perfectly. I have my gear s connected to my iPhone right now. You can receive and place calls directly from the watch.

:good::good::highfive: that's awesome you hear this ppl it works with non Samsung devices
The Op method worked. Now how do i update and connect with my LG G2? In my phone it just says connecting
I connected Gear S to Kies and it says it already has the latest FW
So text messages notifications do not work. That's all I was able to test.
i have an htc m8 .. does this mean i won't get text message notifications either??
I dont think it will.
Gear Manager needs to forward the text notification to your Gear S from your phone.
You might be able to do text if you use at&t messages as a default messaging app try that.
Amazing. This worked. THANK YOU!
Questions:
1) Bluetooth between iPhone and Gear S keeps dropping. How do you fix this?
2) Can you pair the device with more than 1 device? So for example, it's now paired with my 6 Plus. Can add a Galaxy to it so I can add apps? Seems to always factory reset the device.
3) I know text doesn't work but can we use Calendars or Email somehow?

Regarding the question 2:
I have a Galaxy Note 2 and an Iphone. My Iphone is my main phone.
Currently, i successful paired my iphone without the factory reseting. To do that: first i rooted my Gear S. After i use the sdb tool (tizen wearable sdk):
./sdb root on
./sdb shell
and then
cd /var/lib/bluetooth
and i delete the directory with a lot of number (the bt adress of the gear) . Example rm -r C4:42:02:19:99:8D
After i can paired with the iphone without the factory reset.
The problem is i have to do the same thing to reconnect the Galaxy Note 2.
To be continued....

Hold on ... you're deleting the bluetooth address for the Gear?
And how are you not getting this:
No, i don't think that. This directory contains some bluetooth information relating the local (Gear S) address. When i (re)pair it, the directory becomes.
In fact, there is a sub directory with paired bt adresss containing some others informations. To be proper, i deleted the local directory: there is no memory reset, no app lost. I tried to merge the sub directory (the iphone and note 2 bt adress directory), but for the moment it's not concluant.
No, the pairing is sucessfully and i can make a phone call from the Gear S throw the Iphone. For an incoming call , it's another thing: the Gear S rings (but , it's configured in vibration model !), but there is no sound unlike i transferred the call to the iphone and after to the Gear S (not cool !).

What is your model number? SM-R750[?]
Yes, it's a Gear S SM-R750.
The ROM version (rooted, see another thread on xda) is R750XXU1BNJ7.

Marshmallow Woes

I have a stock ATT Note 4 which finally received the M update (yay!) except it kinda broke my gear s (boo!) Watch is working, as far as a watch goes, and still connects via bluetooth. However, I am not getting even one single notification for ANYTHING. I have not changed any settings. The only thing I've tried was a factory reset, which did nothing excpet lose my pedometer steps for today. Any clue? I really, REALLY miss getting those notifications...which is my primary use for my beloved Gear S. Please help!

This issue was solved by doing a factory reset on my watch. Oddly, it didn't start working properly until a couple hours later, but it does now give me notifications again! I hope this helps someone else that may be having the same problem.

Using Gear S with Alcatel 4060a?

Hello, I'm wondering if there is a way to pair my Alcatel 4060a and my Gear S? I've tried a few methods I found but nothing has worked so far. I can root the watch, but I don't want to take the risk if it won't let me connect to a non Samsung phone. Can anybody help?
Until I know, you can just pair the gear s by Bluetooth to use it as a loudspeaker for your phone but that is the only functionality you will get. No gear manager sync. No notifications. No contacts sync. Nothing else.

you can try it with Android Wear on them. That should be fully functional (if you dont mind non working stuff from porting the ROM)

I can't pair with Galaxy watch 46mm

HI,
I have buy my Xiaomi mi A3 last week and with suprise I can't pair the galaxy watch 46mm!
Anyone has the same problem?
Wear OS is ok
Amazfit Pace is ok
anything bluetooth device are ok except the galaxy watch
Thank you
I think I had to go into settings > reset wifi, mobile & bluetooth
Thank you for reply,
unfortunately doesn't work. I try anything:
- reset smartphone
- reset galaxy watch
- disable any battery optimization...
nothing to do...
Regards,
I had a similar issue with my Garmin bluetooth smart watch, it turned out nothing was wrong with the watch or the phone, it's how Android now pairs with external smart devices... Basically set the watch into pairing mode and then add it as a device in your phone's bluetooth search just like you would add a pair of bluetooth headphones, typing in the code and allowing it access to all the usual permissions it asks for such as call log etc. Then add the Google Wear app and any Samsung watch apps you want and login and the watch will be there paired already.

Hi,
Yes i have solve my problem. After restore the network connection I was able to pair my galaxy watch, I have try many network reset before pair it.
Now work right.
Also i have enabled the develper menu and set the AVRCP version to 1.6 but i don't think that this has fix the pair issue.
Thanks all. I followed advice to pair Bluetooth first, then add the wearable app, galaxy watch app, Samsung accessory service. I then tried to pair unsuccessfully through the wearable app. At this point it kept saying that while it was pairing you could check out the features (which I had been ignoring because the watch kept failing to connect). I decided to very quickly click through the next, next, next screens and to my surprise there was a bunch of new permissions that popped up to grant. Another failed connection, a couple more permissions and then.... Success...
I added the Samsung Health app and connected to a Samsung account. All is working as far as I can tell.
