Can't make enough free space to download lollipop OTA - Moto E Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My wife's Moto E has about 650mb of free space on the internal storage at the moment. I've moved as much as I can to the SD card and the rest is uninstallable. When I click to update to 5.1, her Moto E says it needs about at least 850mb to download and install the upgrade. She doesn't want me to "play" with her phone, and it is not rooted. Any options?

best option!

backup apks using ES explorer to SD card (by copying backups folder).
backup contacts to email account (as well as a local vcf file)
backup entire Whatsapp folder (while restoring, Install apk, copy the old folder back and tehn set up whatsapp)
there are apps to backup texts as well.
Remove SD card.
Reset + Download OTA and install (automatically)
Install apks and restore contacts..
No need to root as well

Thanks, I appreciate it.

I'd suggest you uninstall updates of all Google apps and try installing them after you've installed the ota.

[Q] quick question about app back up please

Hey good people, I had Hot Pursuit running in my device with all its 350 or so MB that you have to download when installing it . I then was going to install a new ROM and for that did both a cwm and titanium backup. Restored all the apps and all it's good except for the fact that now when I tap onto the game it asks to download the whole 350mb again. Shouldn't I be able to restore the whole thing without having to download it again ? Thanks
Many games install aditional files directly into the SD Card. Titanium Backup does the backup of the app itself, not the files on the SD Card asociated to the app.
If you don't delete the internal memory you shouldn't have problems with this, since its usually on /sdcard/Gameloft/... directory. If you need to delete the internal memory, then copy the /sdcard/Gameloft directory to your SD to save the app install files.

Thanks mate, am still new to Android. I did wipe all the system and data to install the new rom, so will probably have to download the files again, but next time will know what to do. Thanks again.
Wiping system and data doesn't delete the game data saved on the SD card. Only formatting SD card will delete the game data. Check in 'my files' to see if its still there on your SD card under gameloft. Sometimes when you delete the app it needs to re-download only a few mbs, not all.

[Q] How to transfer EVERYTHING to my SD card?

my 32gb sd card will be here today. I need to put all of my music (in google music), all my contacts, all my apps, and any other data that can be transferred. I want this because on my last android phone i never used my SD card and now i wish i had a backup. Thanks!
As far as the music goes just use a file manager to transfer the files. my personal favorite is root explorer.
And for the contacts and apps it would probably just be easy to sync them to your gmail. then when you get a new android it will download all the apps you had and add to your contacts list.
Would be nice if there was a simple. Way anyone...
Simpler How? doesnt get much simpler than clicking sync to google
was your last phone rooted? If so, did you use Titanium backup...if so back up all user apps with tibu and put your backups on your ext sd. IF your NOte is rooted...put in ext sd from old phone and restore ONLY user apps with tibu. back up and restore contacts using google.
If you were NOT rooted on old phone and NOT on the Note...it will be harder. BUT when you go to market with new phone it will have all your PAID apps in "my apps" and you can d/l again. What i did when i wasn't rooted was write down all my apps so you don't forget what apps you have that aren't PAID. and re d/l/ it honestly has been sooooooooooooo long since i have had an unrooted phone that is the best i can do. I am getting my Note on Monday and until i root it so that i can bing , bang , boom with tibu and restore i am not going to mess with it.
I guess what i am saying is ...someone who wasn't and isn't rooted may be able to help cause it has been forever for me with an unrooted phone.
YOu can xfer files onto your ext sd but ROOT exp requires root..so....you can try the stock file mgr.
Part 2:
How do you force applications to install to the greater 10GB of internal memory & not the measly 2Gb?

[Q] Insufficient Memory

When i first bought the GN2 I also bought a 64GB SD card so I could put all the apps I wanted on the phone not realizing (until it was too late!) that I can't get apps to load on the SD card. Now, every time I try installing another app (wireless tether or GL to SD so I CAN move some apps) I keep getting an error message "Insufficient Space- please uninstall some apps for more space." I have tried uninstalling everything I am not using on a daily basis. I have used Root Explorer to delete empty folders in internal memory. Now I cannot install anything, not even apps to help. What do I need to uninstall to make this thing work again???
Verizon GN2, SCH-I605, rooted, bootloader unlocked, stock rom.

You can use an SD swap script if you are rooted.
You cannot add apps to the SD. Either use the swap script or use titanium backup, make a backup, and uninstall app.
If you are having issues installing apps when there are memory, readd you google acct/play acct. That fixed it for me when i could install some play store apps.

Trouble Restoring Old Whatsapp chats(From my old smartphone to MOTO E)

I recently bought MOTO E and reinstalled most of my previous smartphone apps easily, however i am somehow unable to restore my whatsapp chats completely.
I tried restoring from database, it works fine with chat history but media doesn't appear(Yes i copied media folder).
Also, any way to have whatsapp media stored on external sd card in MOTO E
my whatsapp folder is taking a lot of data:crying:, eating lot of internal memory

uninstall whats app from moto e
backup your Contacts from other device (i suggest use Super Backup app from app store)
restore your Contacts to moto e
copy paste chat/media folder of whats app to moto e and install it again Enjoy.

if your Both Devices are rooted then use titanium backup Simply.
It's actually simple...go to settings>apps>WhatsApp - clear the data
Now paste the WhatsApp folder from ur old phone into internal memory of moto e(not SD card)
Launch WhatsApp, ur conversations will be restored.

First of all, congrats on your moto e!! Sorry to say but there is one solution to yoour problem... Moto e has a less internal storage but you always have an option.. Flash custom rom like CyanogenMod 12.1 which has lollipop 5.1.1 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-e/orig-development/rom-unofficial-cyanogenmod-12-1-t3066007 If you dont know how to do this process then take a starter view from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-e/development After flashing CyanogenMod, go to Settings>Apps>click on the settings button at top right side and select prefferred install location>removable SD card.
Hit Thanks If I helped... :good: :good: :good: :good: :good: :good: :good: :good:

I have a moto E 1st gen (indian version). By mistake i wiped my internal memory using twrp recovery in the advanced wipe options and now i cannot access my internal memory using any file manager (not even ES file manager). If you wiped your internal storage, you will get empty message only...!
If you have other problem, describe it in detail
Yes i am facing problems.
File managers show the internal empty but if i search a particular file/folder it works fine. (i.e. i hav to use the search function of the file manager every time i want to see anything from internal)
I can move/copy from internal to sd card but am unable to do the vice versa(sd card to internal). Basically i cannot write on internal now. So i cannot enjoy playing games(modded) with obb files.
The Google play music thumbnails seem to disappear some how.
WhatsApp seems to crash frequently. Some other apps crash too. (I have a friend with the same phone rooted, with the same stock rom version and with the same whatsapp version working just fine).
I cannot even download any photo from chrome as it saves in internal by default. It shows an error message!
And all of this is happening just from the day i wiped my internal.
Need help. How to undo this?
