Back softkey changed functionality - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an Lg G2 running Cloudy G2(4.4.2). Phone was working fine until 2 days ago. Now the "back" soft key does not work like it used to in many apps. For just a few examples:
Chrome
Before: back key took you to the previous web page
Now: takes you to the main home screen with all my apps, but if I then go back into chrome and the hit the back key it will go the the previous web page
Reddit is fun
Lets say I was in a post,
Before: would take me back out to my reddit home page
Now: takes you to the main home screen with all my apps, but if I then go back into reddit and the hit the back key it will go the the previous web page
Sharing a post from an app to another app(reddit to hangouts for example)
Before: when hitting share it would take you to the app in which to share the post. Then hitting back key would cycle through all the screens and you would end up back in the reddit post
Now: takes you to the main home screen with all my apps. Going back into the app doesn't work. You have to close the app
Hangouts
Before: If I was in a chat, hitting the back key took me back out the list of chats
Now : takes you to the main home screen with all my apps, but if I then go back into hangouts and the hit the back key it will go the the previous web page
What could have caused the back soft key functionality to change like that?
Thanks,
Craig

Maybe a bit of a simple solution which you probably already tried but did you reboot?

Many times

Maybe you could backup your data and factory reset.
Always works for me.

Browswer doesn't go back to home

Hello,
My browser never goes to the home page I set up. Invariably, when invoking the Browser the cached last page is displayed, even after a full "power off". There is no "go to home page" button either.
Anyone else has this, and any idea how to remedy this?
Thanks!
yes, noticed this last night and it was beginning to really bug me.
you can of course use bookmarks or open a new window, but surely there should be a home button....every other browser in the world has a home button!!
minor annoyance though, and not a deal breaker for me.
I know it sounds daft, but I think you can only change the homepage in the browser and not in the "Web n Walk" shortcut to the browser.
I was stumped by this too for a couple of tries. I've removed the web n walk browser shortcut now.
No Go to home page button is annoying me still though
yeah, you can change the homepage, that's not the problem.
but how can there not be a home button....that's just daft!!

Home Screen Button Problem

Alright so I just got a Samsung Fascinate through a trade here on XDA and everything seemed to be in working order...except for the actual software in the phone. For one, the home button doesn't take me home, it simply takes me to a blank screen. I can pull down the notification bar and everything...but I can't get home to actually access and apps or anything. The only way I can access anything is when I hold down the home button to get most recent apps.
I've tried multiple times to hard reset..battery pulls..everything. Someone please help me out. I contacted the previous owner of the phone and he said you just have to press the home button a little harder...that didn't work.
It obviously works because it takes me to a blank screen and allows me to access the most recent apps..but it won't actually take me home.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance guys
Considering the Hines button is capacitive, pushing harder does nothing.
Is the phone rooted or stock?
If stock, try to Odin fresh stock. If rooted, try a different rom
Try installing a different launcher such as Adw, launcher pro or zeam to see if the problem goes away.
Now it does have a crack, but I don't think thats the problem because when I press it it still takes me to a blank screen so it must work.
And he gave me those options..and said it was semi-rooted? Considering I just came fresh from a Moto Droid I really know nothing about the process. Is Odin like SBF? I just want to have the phone in its original state to see if I even like it first..

I would second this suggestion. Often, launchers can have individual settings for what the home button does (i.e., with Go Launcher EX, the home button can be set to take you to your home screen, and if already on your home screen, pressing the home button will open up a shortcut, app, preview homescreens, etc.). So, by installing another launcher, it my clear away whatever setting is on the phone you got (i.e., launching a blank screen). Another option would be to go into your Setting > Manage Applications, and find your default launcher. Open it, and then "Clear Defaults."
Alright I got it to work by restoring completely with odin and changing the home screen launcher.
Thanks guys! It's much appreciated

ICS sgs beta 2 no favorites menu.

Probably in the wrong place, but since I can't post in the actual thread and searching yielded no results, I'll ask here:
Is the favorites menu available for the scs? The beta ROM works great, but effectively have no multitasking without it.
Now I did manage to get it to appear one completely by accident, but couldn't replicate the result. The sequence was: clock, close screen, open screen... And there it was. I have no idea how it appeared.
Will it be added in the future, our is it not possible due to the fact that the phone doesn't have that button?
Nvm I'm an idiot. Long press on home button brings up the favorites menu. Why didn't I try that before...

Problem?

I'm using the Evo 4G LTE if that's necessary information or not... Lately for some reason, every time I close out an app and then re-enter it, it loads back up to where I last was or last thing done rather than the main page. For example, open facebook app, it takes me directly to the last notification I looked at rather to my newsfeed and it will continue to take me to that notification when opening the program until I look at another notification. With instagram, it takes me to the image upload screen, the one where you crop the image before uploading it; all the time. It gets annoying having to navigate back to the main page. Anyone know what's up?
Umm. It's multitasking...

How is that multi-tasking by, for instagram's example, sending me to the upload page of a picture that i've already uploaded? At that point I shouldn't be brought to that page again with the same photo after I've already cropped and uploaded it.
It's going to open up where you left off - that way you can, say, start writing a post with tapatalk, go respond to an SMS, then go back to writing your post without losing your progress.
Instagram is one app, it's going to behave how it's designed to behave. I would assume it's taking you back to that page because it can't really take you to the post-upload page. So it just goes to the point nearest where you left off... but I don't use instagram, so that's just speculation.

Your explanation is how I believe multi-tasking is supposed to work and has been but let me explain what's happening in terms of a message board. I click new reply, write my statement and then click submit reply, and i'm now back at the thread page. So in essence, if I now switch out of the browser then go back to it, I should be back on the thread page. But instead, it brings me back to the reply page where I would be writing my response before clicking submit reply (if that paints the picture anymore clearly).
It's not just with instagram but it's with facebook and a few other apps. After doing some messing around after reading your response I did kill the tasks, re-open the apps and they loaded to their default pages as they should. so it's something that's causing these apps to re-open to the last action you did inside the app rather than the last thing you were viewing in the app.
in phone settings don't you have the option to close app by long pressing back button?

It should be in the accessibility context menu

[Q] Bad ergonomy of the back button in Android 4.0

Hi,
I just found a complain here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1820551 but not with not interesting answer.
My question is : Why Google change the way that back button is working when you come from a notification. Everything is writing down here :
http://developer.android.com/design/patterns/navigation.html
Before, when a notification fire, and you open it. Pressing back button take you back to the application you was one before you open the notification.
For example : You are browsing the web. Someone talk to you on GTalk, and you decide to answer. You open the notification, respond, and press back. The difference between Android 4.X and Android 2.3 is here :
On Android 2.3, you go back to your browser, continue to read your article
On Android 4.X, you go to the contact list of GTalk !!! It's just illogical ! If I press back button, I want to return to what I was going just before ! Most of the time, you press Back multiple times, goes back to multiple old conversation. Then finaly, annoyed, press Home, search for the browser icon, waiting for the reloading, and continue to read your article.
I made a little picture to explain the problem
