SM-G900T Screen Turns On When Text Message Received - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 5

Hello xda, long time lover of xda and xdatv.
Based on the title, I will take written abuse with tough skin for my question. I want to stop the phone from waking up and turning on the screen when a text message is recieved. I see why phone calls turn on the screen but I have always had the option to not turn on the screen when a text is received. My Palm Centro had this option back in 2007!
I have scoured the internet and xda for a fix for this but have only found root methods or other text messaging applications. I can find no questions or information on this topic since June of 2014, so I am asking it again over a year later. I may root my phone in the coming weeks/months but my wife does not want to root her new baby.
Has there been any new information or updates on this in the past year?
I am now ready to receive distasteful comments about not searching before making a thread. 3 2 1 --

I am using handcent now. Very custom. Wife will be getting it today

3125 Auto Answer and WM6

Hey, All-
First post!
I finally had the guts to click "engage" on my Star Trek phone and installed the WM6 Rom...
To Whom It May Concern: Bad to the bone! Thank you so much for doing what the big boys wouldn't for a phone I only got 4 months ago and am under contract for for another year and a half.
I only did the upgrade yesterday and I'm still getting the hang of it. With the Smart Toolkit, SMS Bubbles and WM6, I feel like my phone has finally hit it's stride.
Here's where I'm kind of stuck- I've always kept my BT set for a 4 second Auto Answer and now under the Profiles, I no longer have an entry to edit. Any idea's or am I just so tripped out by the new GUI that I don't see the answer right in front of my face?
Peace,
hawke
EDIT: I also am having trouble using the Contact List in the Smart Toolkit Start pane- in either of the three search modes, a few clicks into it, the phone freezes and I need to pull the battery to reboot. If I access the regular list before starting STK, the regular Contact list will work via the Task button. Anybody else have issues like this? I'd love to hear from folks who've been using this cool add-on and know the finer points.

[Q] Block a prank caller

Hello guys,
some (dickhead) has taken it upon him/herself to call me 12 times over the last 12 hours, mostly in the middle of the night... and left 5 blank voice mail messages.
I want to block this person from calling me, but ORANGE UK say the SGS2 does not have this capability. Any of you know if the SGS2/android can do this?
Tx
Mark.
There should be a blacklist setting. Settings> Call> Call rejection> Blacklists. Hope this helps.

If you have his/her number then you can block it through the blacklist setting. If you do not have his number (ie anonymous caller) then you should file a complaint with the police. I don't know how the laws in your country operate but here the police and justice department have the power to get caller logs from the service providers so they can see who it is and then take action.
there's a root app that might help too - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1051274
Thanks all you guys for your suggestions...
This morning the person called again, so I texted them to say I would call the police if they texted or called me once again. I also set the block on my phone and have not heard another peep from them... so am not sure it is the block or the threat of police that shut them up.
god what incredible idiots some people are!
Tx again,
Mark.
What I do when I get unwanted calls (marketing cr*p on the landline despite being registered with TPS...) is play some really weird music - I have *a lot* of really weird stuff but my absolute favourite for that purpose is Diamanda Galas "wild women with steak knives (the homocidal love song for solo scream)" guaranteed that they won't call again ... I suggest leaving the room while the track is playing.
Edit: before anyone who checks out that track thinks that I am a complete lunatic, I'd like to add that all of her music isn't quite like that...
I usually just breathe heavily down the phone at them.. or set up a scheduled SMS to send to them every 30 mins
I would never suggest or condone posting their number on public forums and letting the masses decide whether to anonymously call them or not. I have never done that with scammers that tried to rig my ebay auctions.
Hahaha that's a good one! Will keep this in mind

Strange usually when it's a blank caller they bar their number.

sms not reading out names or text

Hi all.
First off a great site here. I am new to android (well not strictly true I did have the Desire when it very first came out and I hated it sold it after a week) Any way I am now converted to Android from Iphone. So I am a complete and utter noob
I have got the the S2 and what a phone, never miss a phone call or antenna problems on this puppy.
So my problem is when I get a text msg it only reads out the number of the person and does not read the actual txt. When I get phone calls it tells me who is ringing. This is a problem for me as I want this for when I am driving. Please help.
I have not rooted my phone yet as I said I am a complete noob. Does not look as easy as jailbreak.
Thank you very much. Look forward to your response and no doubt I'll get told off for reposting but I have looked now for 3 days
This phone can do this? I would like to know how to set this up.. I would love for the phone to tell me who is calling...please tell me how to do this...I am new to the Droid as well...came from BB...

Double press/tap HOME key to bring ON Voice Talk.
Turn ON Driving Mode.
Hit the MENU button --> Settings -->Scroll down --> Voice Talk Settings --> "TICK" Show body of message.
I suppose that should solve your problem
(It sometimes takes a while to read out the message depending on your connection..so plz be a lil patient Cheers)
Not really the same thing. There should be a way in android to have it announce who is calling or just texted you without leaving in driving mode constantly. Symbian used to have this, but I don't believe Android does.

I just use Tasker for this, though some would balk at spending on an app worth 5 dollars for a phone worth a hundred times that =)

Feature Request / screen on for notification

Hey guys, the notification light is pretty unnoticeable on my desk and I think it would be nice to have the option to have the screen briefly light up with a small notification in the lock screen. Would be nice for those that have to keep on silent but still know what's coming in without constantly picking up the phone, or looking for that tiny light to flash when your expecting a text or email. Thanks!

ChompSMS offers that for texting
It also has a quick reply setting.
For some reason, the Play Store says it is not compatible with our phone. I downloaded it from their site here and it works fine. http://chompsms.com/main/install_chomp
I know I know but the IPhone notifications app from the play store is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!

From the reviews, it sounds like the last update made the app not work for a lot of current users.

Its working fine for me. I just took the wife's phone and blasted it with various messages and emails both screen off and on. Worked great. I take market reviews with a grain of salt as their usually from spoiled 12 year olds that only post when "something doesn't work " . If I can unlock a bootloader than by god I can set up an app properly lol

From iPhone for 4+ years to LG OG

Hello all,
Long term lurker, decided to finally register and just give a few points about my experience for those that are still on the fence about the LG Optimus G.
I personally love this phone, I've had the iPhone for a while moving from the 3g to 3gs to the 4 and handled the 4s plenty (wifes phone) and the iPhone 5 did not impress me much. I won't go into what I felt was lacking in the iPhone but mention my hesitation(s) on coming to android and specifically this phone.
The biggest reason I was hesitant was that the phone came with ICS with a "planned upgrade" in the future. This is a not an issue IMO- if you are thinking of coming from iPhone to android ICS is more than sufficient and you will be more than happy with it. The phone is very snappy and smooth, no hesitation. If you want Jelly bean just to have Jelly bean you can either be patient with it (like i will be) or root your phone so I really think both parties can be satisfied with this issue. The ICS issue is definitely a non issue for me after playing with the phone and seeing how snappy it is.
The screen is great, I get compliments all the time but sunlight visibility is an issue (it's an issue with the iPhone as well) so that is just something to think about if you are out in the sun a lot etc. It's a minor issues for me but can be a bigger problem for others. Going to the issue where it gives the error regarding its inability to brighten any further due to temperature it rarely happens for me-even when it does most of the time it goes to 87% which is still pretty bright. It is a little annoying sometimes that while on the phone you see it dim as the brightness level lowers automatically without you wanting it too. It is what it is.
LTE is great (my fastest speed in Atl area was 57 download 21 upload!!!), my average speeds have been about 20 download 13 upload. I also love google maps and its navigation feature where it literally is a GPS-even better IMO as it shows a picture of your destination on your phone as you arrive (from google street view-it even shows my home as i pull up if i select to give me directions to my place), I thought that was pretty neat and very handy when you head to a restaurant or a friends home etc you haven't been to.
I knew an issue going in would be accessories, and it sucks that many waited for the Otter box to come out but it only fits Sprint. I went ahead and purchased the body glove from the ATT store and I'm pretty happy with it. Thank God I haven't "tested" its protection yet but it seems like it would do well from a fall.
Battery life was pretty bad at first and took time to adjust, especially coming from an iPhone. After numerous full charge and discharge cycles (about 5 days worth) the battery life greatly improved! I use my phone a lot, mainly texting (minimum 40 outgoing texts a day i'd say), maybe 30 minutes of phone calls a day and a lot of browsing/checking my email and it lasts a whole day. I keep my phone on the quad core setting (i rarely go to "eco mode") and its highest brightest setting with gps on and sync feature off and by midnight my phone would be around 35-40%.
I was on gsmarena, phone arena etc religiously seeing if I should pull the trigger on this phone as I was eligible for an upgrade and wanted to get a phone that would last 2 years. I thought about waiting till the next samsung flagship phone comes but that would have been at least 6 months I believe and with ATT it seems I can get an upgrade every 18 or so months so I feel it is best for me to upgrade my line ASAP whenever possible. Bestbuy had the phone at 99 bucks thanksgiving week and that was when I pulled the trigger.
Overall I'm very very happy with my phone :good: and my first android experience on a phone (i have a tablet)
For those that are hesitant like i was, you will not be disappointed.
A side note for those that may be able to answer two questions for me: can I put my contacts facebook profile pic as their pic in my contacts? I have everything synced to "on" from my sync settings on my system settings to my contacts to facebook saying to sync but it only loads a couple to my contacts (about 5%)
Also for group messages I send out, can I receive texts in that same group message I sent?
Welcome to Android. Enjoy

Search the play store for an app called "haxsync." It'll do what you want regarding contact pictures.
As for group messages, I don't use those so I cannot comment.

Lol what... He wrote a very long general post and tagged two small questions to the end. This isn't a question thread is perfectly acceptable where it he posted it.
That said uninstall Facebook clear contact data. Give Google a couple minutes to do is thing after manually syncing. Then reinstall Facebook manually create the account in accounts and sync and then sync it and your contact pictures should update just fine.
To answer your question about group text messages (a la iPhone,) the stock Android Messages app doesn't do that. However, Go SMS Pro or Handcent are two SMS/MMS replacement apps and work great. I use Go SMS Pro and there's an option to enable the group texting/MMSing.
That's one great example of the power of Android... Don't like a stock app? Replace it!
