[Q] Unable to detect .tar file ?

Hi,
I am trying to update my samsung galaxy s2 with latest firmware available for india (XWKF3)
Firmware info
PDA:XWKF3
PHONE: XXKE7
CSC:KCLKF1
Build date: 09/06/2011
So this is what i did.
1 Downloaded odin3 v1.85
2 Downloaded GT-I9100_INU_I9100XWKF3_I9100DDKE4_I9100ODDKF3
3 Downloaded CSC_INU_I9100ODDKE2
My problem is odin is unable to find PDA - .tar file.
Am i missing something ? Please advice...
One do the instructions tell you to unzip the file GT-I9100_INU_I9100XWKF3_I9100DDKE4_I9100ODDKF3
Or do they tell you to put it directly as a tar file to ODIN pda as per all the instructions .Or are they different instructions to that .

Not sure. I followed the following instructions. If I am wrong can u correct me please... Thanks
Flashing Firmware with Odin
1. Just download the firmware version you want from above and extract the .tar file in the archive and save it somewhere
2. Reboot your phone to download mode.
To get download mode shut down the device. After it shuts off completely simultaneously press the Down volume key+ Home button + press the power button .
You should see a warning asking you to press volume up if you want to continue or volume down to cancel, press volume up. You are now in download mode!
3. Start Odin
4. Click on the PDA button and browse to the .tar file that you extracted in step 1
If the package has more than one .tar archive then they will be labelled with PDA, Phone/Modem and CSC. Just put them in the corresponding section of Odin
5. DO NOT PUT .PIT FILE AND DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT TICK REPARTITION.
Extract tar file means you should have a full tar file in tar format .
A try the full file you downloaded .
B that fails unzip the original file to a tar file do not then unzip the tar file .
jje
Don't unzip the tar file. The file browser is expecting to find something of that file type.
Your post shows you have unzipped the tar file .
jje
Thanks. I still have few more questions.
1 Will the Phone field be blank without any file ?
2 Can include indian csc file CSC_INU_I9100ODDKE2 aswell or is that not required ?

Stock firmware should be the full file with PDA Modem and CSC
No mention of 3 files in the instructions there .
How to install the latest firmware on your phone. This will also get rid of Bell's bloatware:
1) Make sure you have working drivers installed on your computer. If you do not, the easiest way is to download Kies and it will install it for you.
2) Install Odin 1.85 on your computer (attached at the bottom of this post)
3) Pick any firmware version you would like to flash from Intratech's thread linked here. The firmware is arranged from oldest to newest so the last ones are obviously going to be the newest.
4) Start Odin in "administrator" mode and make sure Kies is not running in the background. Use task manager to check
5) Place your downloaded firmware .tar or .md5 file into the PDA section in Odin. Make sure re-partition is not selected. Auto reboot and reset time should be selected by default.
The stock rom link says
If the package only contains one .tar archive then it will have everything, pda+phone+csc, in the one file.
If it has multiple .tar archive then:
The .tar with modem in the name is the phone/baseband bit of the package
.tar with csc/multi-csc in the name is the csc bit of the package
.tar with code/PDA in the name is the PDA part of the firmware package
If this is the case you will need to put these .tar archives in the specific areas of Odin to flash the update
thx
yea it didnt mention about the other 3 packages in that post
but i think as long as i flashed the stock one, i should be fine and dont need to care the others right?

Unless you have mdk, the only recovery you can use is safestrap. And it sounds like you didn't have it. You'll need to flash the full wipe nc5 tar file through Odin and start fresh. From there you can download towelroot to gain root, Safestrap 3.72/3.75, and busybox. You will also need the selinux changer from the play store and set to permissive before using safestrap. From there, you'll be good to go. Just look for roms that are safestrap compatible and flash away
thank you
Thank you, i am downloading it now, says 1.5 GB FULL WIPE.
I really appreciate it
No worries

Thanks again! It worked perfectly. I was able to load the system and recovery back in the S4. Your a lifesaver, !!
That's awesome! Glad I could help.
Total newbie question here.
I'm in the same boat
How do I flash it through Odin?
Which options on the left and right side of Odin 3.09 should be selected?
Do I keep the zip intact?
Which button on o din 3.09 should I select?
I tried selecting the zip through the ap button but that didn't work.

When you open up odin, there should be 2 items already checked: auto reboot and f. reset time. Leave those checked. If the file extension is .zip, unpack it because you need the .tar file. Make sure you click the AP slot then find the tar file you extracted. Once you're ready to start, double check to make sure those are the ONLY 3 things that have check marks. Then click start. Really important, once you start, don't stop it. You can Jack up your phone doing that.
You either need to convert an image file ".img" to a ".tar" file OR just grab the correct ".tar" file.
Then within Odin, select the file from the "AP" box and only have the "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time" selected within the options.
If the zip file has 1 single .img file then extract and convert and use in Odin.
If the zip file has 1 single .tar file then extract and your all set to use the file in Odin.
If the zip file has some folder's and files (IE... META-INF, System, boot.img, etc...) then this is for installing from within the Recovery of the Bootloader in your phone.
For Converting the .img to a .tar file, i use a program called "Caboomi's Recovery .img to .tar File Converter" (ATTACHED)
Extract the file i attached and place the .img inside the converter's folder. Be sure to rename the file to "Recovery.img" and launch the "Runme.bat" file.
The converter instantly creates a tar file named "recovery.tar.md5".
The "recovery.tar.md5" file is ready for use in Odin.
Good Luck!:fingers-crossed:

There's no custom recovery options if you're on OC1 bootloader, but you do have options for root/flashing. OC1 is rootable with KingRoot on the desktop. If you want to flash roms from there (or xposed), you need to use FlashFire.
Thanks for providing this. I was rooted but I wanted to flash the latest stock firmware that would allow me to root again if I change my mind. I attempted to download OC1 from Sammobile but it was taking way too long. In the meantime while waiting for the download I found this post. I downloaded it here, flashed it and went through the initial setup of my phone. At this time the file is still downloading from Sammobile. I'm letting it to continue just to see how long it takes.
Can you post the pit file?
This is what it should look like: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23269279319199111 You should be able to take the .tar.md5 file and unzip it using 7-zip and pull out the .pit file. You'll need to unzip the tar.md5 anyway so you can get to the PDA(or AP) file.

Developers Tip: If you want to flash firmware without wiping your data, make sure there is no pit file selected under the PIT tab in Odin, then extract and remove cache.img.ext4 then repack as a .tar file. Applies to both combo and 4 file firmware packages. In 4 file packages, cache.img.ext4 is in the CSC file. However, in some cases this may put your device in a bootloop.
Cheers!
Sorry but... what is the diference between "4 file" and "combo"?

The simplest way to explain 4 file is in Odin, there are 4 firmware slots. The "4 File .rar package" has the correct file for each slot in Odin to flash. Example, extract the .rar package you (might have) downloaded, and you will see 4 .tar files and the pit file. So the BL_xxx_xxxxxxxx_xxxxxxxx_xxxxxx_HOME.tar file would go in the BL slot in Odin.
Combo is basically all of those files that would be in the 4 .tar archives put into one. If you choose to download this file, the .tar package must be flashed though the AP slot in Odin.
And the .PIT file would go under the PIT tab in Odin.
If you don't want to lose your data while flashing, you can do this:
-Don't use the pit file in Odin
--or--
-If you chose to download the 4 file firmware, don't flash the CSC file and don't use the pit file.
--or--
-if you chose to download the combo firmware, you can use 7zip (I recommend downloading it onto your pc if you don't have it already) to extract the archive and delete cache.img.ext4, then repack the remaining files (Except the pit file) into a new .tar archive.
Cheers!

Open Odin and look to the right of the window, you will see 4 buttons, named "BL" "AP" "CP" and "CSC"
Extract the respective 4 file firmware from the downloaded .rar package to your desktop or downloads folder and open the folder once completed.
From there, you can insert the 4 .tar files into Odin. Once in Odin, click on the BL slot and navigate to the folder that contains the extracted files. Once there, select the tar file with the letters BL at the very beginning, and vice versa.
Example: BL_G850AUCU1BOC6_G850AATT1BOC6_LRX22G_HOME.tar (which is the bootloader files for lollipop firmware) would go under the BL slot in Odin.
Screenshot: https://mega.nz/#!2pZlGboI!M5YA2RGn0ufZ_bdVIFg6AD3xIH3iHg00JrAgHoo0OP8
If you downloaded the combo (all in one) firmware package, extract everything in the .rar file and place the .tar package under the AP slot in Odin, and if you want to perform a clean reset, make sure the .PIT file is under the PIT tab then PIT slot in Odin and make sure that "NAND Erase All" and "Re-Partition" is checked under the 'Options' tab.

Try booting your phone into download mode then reflash the Lollipop bootloader in Odin (BL File goes under the BL slot for 4 file). If you are not wanting to wipe your data, and if you downloaded the 4 file firmware, you can simply reflash the lollipop bootloader files then afterwards go back into download mode then reflash the AP and CP file. The actual bootloader in the phone does allow the flashing of different firmware versions for the device so it sounds like a small bootloader issue.

The G850A Has a locked bootloader, therefore, cannot run TWRP or any custom kernel or recovery.
