Noob Question - HTC Desire 610

Alright I rooted my cousins phone using the guide found on here go BusyBox installed but it won't update. Can anyone help me figure out what's going on?

Stock htc kernel has the /system partition write protected. Which means to install, delete or change/update system apps or files you have to do it thru recovery(TWRP) or follow the instructions on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/desire-610/development/mod-wpmod-disable-write-protection-t3149168 to disable the write protection.

[Q] What 'FIX PERMISSION' do in CWM and SGS2 hard rest.

Hello guys,
I confused about fix permission option on cwm, what actually it does. And when we should use this fix permission? On what case we need to use it?
2 - how to total hard reset SGS2, completely back as it still virgin ( not include odin binary counter). This should use cwm to use 'format' option. But anyone can help with the steps guide? Or any other hard reset method recommended?
Edit: im sorry guys, im not sure if im posting on the correct section. I cant see '(Q)' mark on my topic.
Thanks

If by virgin you refer to set the phone as the way it was as you purchase it, you should do two things:
1) Erase all user data (you can do that from CWM). Format /data /system and /sdcard
2) Install a stock ROM (via Odin).
If you also want to reset the binary counter, you need the USB Jig to do that.

I see, when im done with all those format steps in cwm, thats mean my phone dont have any OS inside? So that mean i cannot reboot the phone rite?
The next step after format the whole things then shut down the phone and get into download mode and flash stock firmware with odin? Correct me if im wrong.

Yes, that is correct.
Formating /data, /system and /sdcard set the phone empty and without any ROM, so it won't do a full boot. You can power down the phone and power it up in download mode. Then from there you flash your Stock ROM from Odin and you're good to go.
Permissions are explained here:
http://www.legend.ws/blog/tips-tricks/linux-file-permissions-explained/
Since Android is based on the Linux kernel, the same basic file permissions scenarios apply as those outlined above.
In simple terms, when permissions get messed up, you may lose the ability to access or edit files over which you normally should have control, or you may gain control over files which normally you shouldn't, which can cause random problems, like Force Close, etc. in Android.
Repairing the permissions is a housekeeping measure, to keep things neat and tidy. Sometimes, after a repair, you'll have to redo some settings, etc.

I see, well, let say i just flashed a new rom, and i get fc on some apps. And some app not working properly, in this situation, fix permission can solve the problem? What change we would get after fix the permission, i mean if it can harm the system?

[SOLVED] Can't Install Update Due To Uninstalling System App

Okay, first, I have tried googling and came up with no answers. Second, I tried looking through xda and came up with no answers. The closest thread I found anywhere was here. Here is my situation.
I have the EVO 4G LTE and I am running stock and rooted. Over last weekend I became s-off. So, now I am s-off with a stock recovery and would like to install the OTA update that is out. Please don't tell me not to in this thread and just wait for a rooted ROM and the like. I know the risks involved and what potentially could happen.
Ultimately, when I try to apply it I get the red triangle. When I hold the volume up and power on it goes into the stock recovery and here is what it says.
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
Installing update...
Copying to fotaBoot to /data/system for customize reload...

So, what this tells me is that soundhound is preventing me from installing the update. I didn't even have soundhound installed when I tried the update. Also, I looked with root explorer under /system/app and there was nothing listed for soundhound or the like. I thought just deleting the file would maybe solve my problem. I also tried installing it from the market. I think I must have accidentally restored this file from a different backup on accident and don't have that backup anymore.
So, this leaves me to my quandary. What can I do to install the OTA? Does anyone have any thoughts or insight? Thanks in advance.
Okay, I have tried this as well. I flashed the most current TWRP recovery and wiped cache and dalvik cache. Then I flashed a stock recovery and tried the update again. I received the same error as last time with the stupid soundhound.odex file. Does anyone have a soundhound free file with the apk and odex file? I figure if I had that I could place it in the proper location with root explorer or adb install it to get the update to apply. Still, any thoughts could be helpful.
It might be a way for HTC to prevent rooted phones to update as how u explained it soundhound isn't installed but when u purchase this phone it comes with sound hound preinstalled into system directory which u cannot uninstall without root privlages

I appreciate the input. I guess I forgot that soundhound comes preinstalled on the phone. I just checked the RUU and looked at the rom and you are right. It is there. So, now I have the .apk and .odex files from the stock rom. My question is now how do I install it so that it looks like it was there from the beginning as a system file?
Thanks again for reminding me it came with the phone. I feel I am closer to being able to install the update.
DONE AND DONE!!!!
First thing is that I changed the title because it was not SoundHound's fault at all. It was my idiot self that uninstalled a system app. I don't remember doing that but I won't deny that somehow I did.
Now to the meat of how I solved this.
I got the correct system files (both .apk and .odex) and placed them on my sd card
I mounted /system/media as r/w with root explorer and copied both files into the /system/media directory (must do this first before putting them into /system/app)
I changed the permissions to rw-r--r-- as were all the other apps in the /system/app directory
I copied both files over to /system/app
I rebooted the phone
Once the phone rebooted I updated the app in question and opened it
I rebooted again just to be safe
Then I downloaded and installed the update
SUCCESS!!!!!
Anyway, just wanted to share for everyone in case you run into a similar problem when trying to update. Reach out to me if you need any help with any of the steps. Thanks to such great people and developers on xda.
Some threads are saying that even if you're S-Off, the new HBOOT won't let you flash Superuser and TWRP. Were you able to reroot?
For various reasons, I'd like to just take the OTA and reflash SU and TWRP (I'm S-Off, rooted, stock recovery right now).

I was able to reroot. However, first I had to install the lazy panda hboot and flash TWRP through fastboot usb. I then flashed a su zip once I booted into TWRP. Hope this helps. I am trying to make a new thread for this right now.
I had the same issue but with a different problem. I had rewritten my build.prop to incorporate the application associations as they should be (thanks Crapple!). As a result, the OTA was failing to install. Volume UP + Power showed me the error. Restored the original build.prop I had backed up and OTA fired off. A few more steps and I'll have your S-OFF OTA rebuild complete. Thanks!

[Q] Nabi 2 Kids Android Tablet

Hello Everyone,
I have not play with any android devices since android 2.0 and even back then found self rooting tools. I got my Kid Nabi2 tablet. Runs Android 4.0.4 currently. Nice little tablet. Problem is only have 8GB or storage. About 4gb after all system partitions and recoveries. So my question is can I safely back up my recovery partition to external source to free up some space? I assume recovery partition has complete recovery files when I do restore to factory option. I I remember correctly android has few partitions. /boot, /system, /recovery, /sd. is there a way just to have your operating system and whatever apps. Have recovery mode but have files on like sd card. If I decide to root this device dose that changes anything in my recovery partition. If device is rooted can I just go back to completely stock by doing factory reset? I just want to make sure that if I root it and want to go back to complete stock for any reason I can do that.
You can restore from your backup that gets made after you flash the custom recovery.
Here is the original script for using on Windows:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32207344
Though you should use the gapps package from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35888524 as it gets rid of the 'android upgrading' messages on every boot.
If you want a more manual method, or are on linux, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2016463

T499user, thank you for replaying. I do run windows. I did look at the section you direct me to me before. What I don't understand is when you root with his program do I use option 1 or 2. Where dose the back up go and how do I restore it later? when I restore dose that bring it back completely to stock, meaning just like it was when i got it? I'm currently running new nabi software do I have to worry about losing wifi?
Also is there a way of freeing up space on my nabi 2 by keeping a back up somewhere else. I think now there is recovery/back up partition. that works when I do factory reset. is that is how that works?
By installing new custom recovery would other recovery still be there?
Sorry trying to get back after many Apple years..

I prefer to do it manually, but if you are going to use the script, use option 2. Then you can install gapps from TWRP using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2065878.
The backup that gets created is of the current system state. It is stored in /sdcard/TWRP/backups/*serialnumber*/backupname
No worries about wifi as long as you did all of the OTA updates.

The system, boot, and data partitions get backed up. That is the way they set it up for the partitions.
All of your questions have already been answered in the other threads, might want to do a search for 'Nabi' and have a read.

[Q] Post Root Questions - Noobie

After many attempts I finally got my Samsung Fantasy V2.3.5 rooted. I've tried several methods that I found on forums and after running one of them with Odin, I now have a slightly system. That did not root so I kept trying and now have it rooted and superuser privileges which is what I wanted so I can delete some bloat.
But now I have a few questions (probably pretty basic but as I said, I'm really new at this)
When I ran the Odin attempt I installed CI500_VZW_EH03_GB_CM.tar.md5 and also a program called atlas_v2.2.pit, which I understand created a new partition. I also ran cwm-recovery-ALL.tar and I can now boot into CWM recovery.
I would like to clean up my device and get rid of all that I put on it that I don't need. Here are my questions:
1. Can I get back to my original system? Is the new system on a different partition and if I delete that partition, will the device than default to my original?
2. If I go into CWM Recovery and clear the cache/reset, besides losing all of my data (contacts, settings, etc) will I also lose ROOT?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

well,,, using ODIN and the ROM file and the .pit file is essentially formatting the internal harddrive of your phone and recreating different & new partitions for the Rom to operate with.
It did not keep what you had.
{that also answers you question #1 )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=999097
is a good post about PIT files and what they do.
the link is on the Galaxy S I9000 page which is a cousin phone of the fascinate, couldn't find the fassy version.
edit::: oh here it is ...

Edit again:::
to answer question #2...
No, by using that particular .tar.md5 file it is already pre-rooted,,, so wiping cache, or dalvik, or "factory reset" will not erase root
.

[Q] Problem with TWRP backup after rooting

Hi friends,
I just rooted my I9300 for the first time. I followed the guides step by step and got to point where i should backup everything with either TWRP or Clockworkmod. I chose to go with TWRP, installed it and when i try to do a classical backup it tells me the new version of TWRP is only able to backup to internal storage. I was not sure if i may proceed with flashing ROM's at this point. I couldn't find information on threads regarding this issue. and i was not allowed to post on developer threads where TWRP tutorial was:http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/orig-development/recovery-twrp-2-7-1-0-touch-recovery-t1943592
Did i miss a step?
Thank you all for your help
p.s. once i had TWRP app running it prompted me to download Busybox of which there was no mention in any of the guides. I uninstalled it. Good/bad??
Do you have the actual version 2.8. I never had any problems with writing to /reading from internal or external sdcard.
And the TWRP-installer asked for Busybox indeed. Installing it is harmless and useless too. Do it or install via Odin.
