Sprint Note 5 Unlock Device - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Note 5 via Sprint.
The device was won, so never activated.
Unfortunately, I don't have a Sprint account and don't with to have one. NIB, checked IMEI and it's clear.
I was fortunate to call and get a six digit unlock code, so they said. I called back to verify and they said it was valid.
Inserted TMO SIM and it doesn't work. The prompts don't pop up to enter the unlock code. Can someone help me wit this?
I am not super techy when it comes to this. But even the TMO rep was clueless to why the prompts were not coming up.
Oh note, I went to RTN and try to reset the MSL with the code given and it didn't work. I don't know if I need to activate the phone and then try to TMO sim. Then disconnect the Sprint account. I have no clue but help would be great. I would really like to use my Note 5

The MSL has absolutely nothing to do with unlocking the phone and Sprint phones never use codes to unlock (Tmo should know this by now). There are a few places that offer these unlocks now and a few unlock boxes that support it as well, though you don't want to go that route as it's quite expensive way to unlock one phone. Probably the best, easiest solution, is to check out idoneapps.com The developer is a member of XDA and has been verified to work by quite a few members here.

This is the way I've done it (both on T-Mo and AT&T, US anyway)
1) Find someone who is in good standing with T-Mo, who hasn't unlocked a phone recently, and who doesn't plan on it.
2) have them call into T-Mo, saying they have a phone for international travel, and that they are looking to unlock said phone to ensure that they can have adequate coverage if they travel outside of the country, using local SIMs.
3) have them give the rep the IMEI for your G1, receive the unlock code (WRITE THIS DOWN, just in case, ive had to re-unlock devices before)
4) Profit!
This is a typical policy for most phone companies to have, and they will often enough unlock cell phones for users if you talk to a rep without too much fanfare. Only thing is, you cant just call them up every time you want to unlock a new phone, so this person probably wont be able to unlock another phone for a few months.
If you don't have someone who is on T-mo, you may be out of luck, and have to go through the old fashioned methods of paying for it with a 3rd party service.
I was able to say that I'm giving my phone to a non T-Mobile user and T-Mobile emailed me the unlock code the next day

Thats EXACTLY what you do. A t-mobile customer who has a good account (which is 99% of customers) can get the UNLOCK code. It will take a bit, I just did it with someone and it took almost 10 days for T-mobile to get it. Tmobile said its something with the Mytouch IMEI numbers that takes so long. Ususally it take no more than 72 hours, but either way T0Mobile always comes thru. If you do get it it will be a 8 DIGIT CODE, any more or any less and u are getting ripped off.
ok, but after I get the IMEI... What I'm supposed to do with it?

The IMEI is actually a sort of "Serial number" for your phone, you'll find it on a sticker in the battery compartment i believe, you will have to give your IMEI to the rep.
They will give you an unlock code, which you will be prompted to enter once you put a non-tmobile SIM into your phone.

sorry, hspl has nothing to do with sim unlocking. it allows you to install custom roms, which are independent of sim lock. sorry if you were misled.
the only options really are - 1- call tmo and see what they can do or 2- google around and pay for service; i remember some threads about the latter option here.
I think T-Mobile's general policy is that they will give you the unlock code if they have record of you having the phone with their service for more than 90 days. But if I was you, I'd try calling them before paying for an unlock code. It won't cost you anything to call, even if they say no they can't help you. And I have heard of people buying unlock codes and then they don't work. So if you do end up having to buy a code, I would say be pretty careful who you are buying it from, read reviews, try and find out their reputation, etc.
Personally I called T-Mobile and they sent me the code in a text about an hour after speaking to a CSR on the phone, and they didn't even ask why I needed it. But I had the phone for more than 90 days too.
i did call tmobile. only problem j have never had an account with them. they asked if i knew anybody who had a tmobile account where they could link the phone too and there for give me the unlock code. only problem to that method is that i live in a AT&T dominated area (we have 3G LOL) and i dont know anybody who could have tmobile. only sprint and att /:

Sim Unlocked?

I have the Tmobile S3 (t999) and got the unlock code from them since I will be traveling overseas. I entered the code by typing in *#7465625*638*# to pull up the enter network key box. After entering the code it tells me the unlock is unsuccessful.
I figured I would try inserting an AT&T sim card and try to put in the code that way. When I inserted the AT&T sim, it worked and I was able to make a call.
I typed in *#7465625# to check to see if the phone was unlocked and it still tells me it is locked. That can't be right, can it? If I go overseas and use a foreign sim, does anyone know if my phone will work?
Update:
My phone worked fine on using a foreign sim. It still says it's locked if I type in *#7465625#
if the ATT sim worked, you should be fine.
lucky you, ATT wont unlock ours yet )=

yeah, i asked AT&T yesterday and they said 1) it was too soon and 2) i'm still in my 30 day return window so it's ineligible. but i'm going to london in 2 weeks so will probably have to cough up the $25..
hi
i just called telus. i asked if they could unlock my set set, they stated yes BUT
- i must wait 3 moth after the set is first activated
- there is a $50 charge
i stated that i could get it unlocked cheaper via a 3rd party , they did not care and wouls not budge on price
Ok... heres how it works... i almost screwed myself... when u enter that network unlock code and dont put in a att or diff. Sim and enter the code it WILL NOT UNLOCK UR PHONE!!! ONCE you put in a diff /att sim a screen will pop up asking for code... IF YOU ENTER YOUR CODE WITHOUT A ATT/DIFF. SIM
IT WILL NOT UNLOCK AND IF YOU DO it 3X YOUR PHONE IS PERMENTLY LOCKED TO TMOBILE!!!
you only get 3 trys before this self destruct action is taken... How do i know? I called tmobile and they said I entered the code twice and failed and i only have one more chance to unlock correctly before perment lock to network!!! So fingers crossed that Tomarrow i get att sim and dont mess up...
I have heard of a reset code but you have to buy it and im not 100% sure about this...
SO CAUTION .....
If anyone knows were to get a reset code let me know please ... just incase... I dont want to return my phone.. I ended up with a keeper and a replacement might not be as good... thnx

Nothing software related is permanent
There was an unlock method for the Captivate that involved modifying /efs/nv_data.bin. Pretty sure something similar will eventually come along for the i747.

no, that's the problem. nv_data exists on the international SGS3 but not on the US variants. that is why we don't have an unlock solution but they do.
anyway, i called AT&T last week and they gave me my code with no problems.

Carrier Unlocking The Galaxy Note SGH-i717

HI, I just wanting to throw something out there...I was looking at some different sites about unlocking the galaxy note...and I was also checking the reviews for the sites too(can never be too careful).. and I ended up picking cellunlock.net and going with that one...the unlock was 39.99 but after using the promo code I searched in google (android50) it brought it to 19.99..well while I was waitng on the unlock email I stuck my sim card from tmobile usa in there and come to find out it was already unlocked...well I still got a unlock code in my email about 12 hours later but never tried it cuz there was no reason too...well since then I got a new note ( a white one).. and it was not already unlocked...believe I checked haha...but I checked reviews again and there were several saying that the never got a code..and several saying that the codes they sent were fake...but I really needed the note unlocked and at&T wasn't helping..so I went for it anyway...I got the unlock code in my email about 28 hours later and I tried it and it luckily worked!...now that was about 4 hours out of the time frame that they gave me...but it worked...so I just thought Idf let people know my experience...but try at your own risk!
at&t has been giving out the unlock codes for free.
I dunno if the sale is still on, but I got my code from unlockthatphone.com for about $14.
I talked to AT&T international care on the website and they gave me the unlock code in 2 minutes without a problem

yeah that's where I almost always get them from...but this one they wouldn't give me...something about people abusing the right to get the codes or something like that..but hey..what the heck..i don't mind paying 20 for an unlock code
I called 611 from my cell today and asked for the unlock code and they gave it to no questions asked... well other than my imei and if I had any other questions.

You weren't kidding. Called and said I wanted to use the phone overseas and gave them the imei number and a minute later she had the unlock code for me. Nice!!
Same for me - I got the unlock code straightaway on a web chat with AT&T. The site says something about a limit on the number of unlocks one can obtain on an account, I think it was something like 5 per year.
I don't see why they would give you a hard time unless you're unlocking a bunch of phones on your account.
Same for me, I used the AT&T International Support web chat and they gave me the code right away. Too bad you need a non-AT&T SIM to actually use it.

That is the point of unlocking a phone -- to use another carrier's sim card. Otherwise, why unlock?

For me? Higher resale value. All other phones I've unlocked didn't require a SIM at all to do this.

Carrier Unlocking on a never activated Volt 2 from Virgin

So in May of 2015 i purchased on Amazon a new Volt 2 to be used on Virgin Mobile with a yet to be established accoung. The next day my Mom surprised me by giving me her old Samsung and added me to her phone plan. The following week when The Volt 2 arrived, it got lost in the shuffle and instead of returning the phone, it got tossed in a closet... unopened... never activated... And no account opened with Virgin.
4 years later, a friend who is down on his luck just lost his cell phone. He doesnt have the money to replace it because he was laid off 2 weeks ago. I offered to put him on my plan with sprint becuase the plan i have is so cheap to add a line and figured i would give him my stashed Volt 2 since it's a CDMA phone and should work on Sprints network.... If life was only that easy.
When i went to check the IMEI number on Sprints site, it came back with a message that said something to the effect that the phone qualified but i had to bring in to a Sprint store to activate it. Just to protect myself i called Virgin and asked if the phone was locked and explained the whole situation to her. She looked up my IMEI and claimed there were no holds on the phone and shouldnt have a problem bringing it to sprint. i asked her to triple check that information which she did and assured me all would be ok with Sprint...
i go to Sprint the next day to add my line and though they didnt say it was locked, i was told i just couldnt use the device on their network. So before i esculate this issue with Sprint I decided when I got home to call virgin again and make 100% sure my device has no holds are on it anwhewre.... carrier hold, sim hold, device hold, any hold.. The tell me nothings wrong with it. In all honesty, I never told them on the phone that I never activated activated the device, as I assumed they would of seen that.
I put a request in with sprint to provision the phone to its network and the rep didn't seem to see why she couldn't they said it would take 72 hours and I'd get am email with the outcome. It's been 8 days no email.
I'm sure the problem is that I didn't have service on the phone for the required 12 months in order to get the carrier unlock restriction.... Obviously the fact that the phone hasn't been activated is what's messing up everyone's view if the device. It has no phone number, no account to tie it too and under the system under bootloader there's nothing there it blank. The phone starts up fine, i can connect to my wifi and use it just fine. But under settings there's no network associated to it and most everything is blank. I put a correct sim sprint card in and it says invalid sim. It tries authorizing and fails. It on every reboot it tries to activate and eventually fails. It will download update, but fails with an authentication error when rebooting and installing. Phones not rooted or hacked (yet). And I've looked into the unlock companies out there and told if I can't get the phone yo ask for an unlock code when putting another sim card in, then there's nothing they can do... I can't get it to do that, no matter what shortcut / hidden menu option I try. In fact even *#06# (or variation thereof) won't pull um the imei number. It's listed in the settings. But I wonder if the fact that it's not asking for an unlock code when changing SIMS is because it's not activated anywhere. But if I activate it, will a lock be put on it immediately? And why are they locking phones 4 years old... Come on.
So is this phone just junk unless I want to pay $40 a month to Virgin for a year? On a phone that's 4 years old?
For the record I posted a message on vigin communities message board not giving IMEI number and said I'd supply it through an PM if requested and I was simply replied to with the staple "phone must be activated on our network for 12 months" line.
i hate throwing away any electronics especially ones ive never used. Is that my only option if I want to use the phone anywhere else other than virgin?
Sorry for the long winded posting...i couldn't find a decent answer anywhere on Google when searching if can you unlock a phone that's never been activated.
Help.
not oe reply? ok maybe it was too long and boring tro read so ill just condense it to one line...
is there a way to unlock a prepaid phone form Virgin that i bought 4 years ago but never activated it on any network?
When i asked Virgin they claimed there was no lock on it, in fact they didnt even see the device. But when i tried activating it on Sprint, they showed a lock and said they could provision the phone and it would be available to move in 72 hours... that was 2 weeks ago and i still can't get the phone on Sprint.
So do i need to activate a 4 year old phone on Virgin and keep it for 12 months before it will get released? I tried an unlock service and they said if it doesnt ask to enter a unlock code, they cant help... i cant get it to ask for this code.... its a Volt 2
any suggestions?>
