How is battery vs stock?
Sent from my ONE A2005 using Tapatalk
Battery is still on going test, what i noticed is that there is delay when the phone is in deep sleep, it will not recognized your fingerpritn quickly, you need to press the power button.
Flashed R2, been using Zzmoove on big core, impulse on little core. Using msm hotplug.
During screen off, the phone took longer to respond to my fingerprint. Stock is like 0.5sec longest, while this kernel took 2sec longest and sometime doesn't rven read my fingerprint ._. That happen not when deep sleep, it happened after turn off the screen via power button.
For the battery life review, will wait until tomorrow and will include game performance, etc.

OK, I have written an app to attempt and stop call wonkyness on CM7 builds. Specifically the phone locking up when making and receiving calls.
It's my observation that it's the mic that causes the phone to lock up and so this app opens and closes the mic every minute to keep it "fresh". It's a long shot, but I can't seem to duplicate wonkyness with it enabled so I'm posting it for other to try.
Now after a few positive comments to help boost my confidence in the app, I've made it's own thread to make it easy to track comments.
Just install and run (or just reboot as it auto-start on boot). To disable, uninstall it.
Please post your results!
Change Log:
Version 1.4
Made service more persistent by adding notification bar. Turns out, Android was killing off the service when memory was running low causing wonk to surface.
Version 1.3
Can only be installed on internal memory. Needed to make sure the service can started up on boot. (Thanks to mjukis for pointing this out)
Version 1.2
Only dewonkificates when screen is off to avoid conflicts with any apps you may be using.
Removed debug logging
[Post edited because the wonkyness is still there and this .apk works fine to fix it]
Dude.... As best as I can tell in 20 minutes' time, this damn thing seems to actually work! Gotta tell ya how skeptical I was....but I'm pretty flippin' pleased right now!
Good looking out!!
Much appreciated for this app.
While it's still too early to say it's 100% working, so far so good.
I have had the wonk since build 3 to 23 (except for 16).
I will keep testing and report back often.
That's great news and I'm happy that it looks like it's working for people. I was on the edge of rolling back and this was a desperate attempt to fix it.
Agree with the op. Can't say for sure its the miracle I've been waiting for... but 4 calls in (admittedly 2 from myself, ) no wonks. When I'd expect all to be wonky
If this 'wonklessisity' continues you will surely become supreme ruler of xda!
Will report back soon.

Currently I can't see any measurable battery drain. Dewonkificator doesn't even show on the About phone->Battery use screen. Increasing the time between dewonkification might be work, but since battery doesn't seem to be a issue and we don't know what the source of the problem is I don't think its worth risking or investigating.
I also believe it have something to do with the mic, since all apps that use it have the same freeze, and it seems to work for me. Thanks

This bug is the reason I got off CM7 nightlies, so damn annoying. Maybe this is a Gingerbread thing rather than a Nexus S problem cause the Nexus S is supposed to be rebooting itself while in calls as I'm sure everyone knows.
Motorola aiming to upgrade all possible devices to Jelly Bean, promises to give you $100 credit if it can't
http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/05/motorola-jelly-bean-upgrades/
That's actually pretty interesting.
Thinking about it a bit it seems to work out in Moto's favor quite a bit. They'll update their newest phones and the people who are using their older phones will have incentive to get a newer model and thus give them more money.
HTC could do something like this.
I don't know that I'd buy another motorola, don't get me wrong, I love the phones, but the locked bootloader and slowness of updates kinda kills it for me. They're probably doing this to keep business from going elsewhere due to these problems.

Not exactly the same. If they failed to upgrade I wouldnt want to buy another phone they'll fail with
thats not exactly hard to do since they have the line in there all "new and currently selling devices..."....doesn't cover stuff sold 1yr ago...so in that case HTC could easily cover this as the ONE series as a whole should be able to get it....ie they could say it and NOT upgrade the EVO3D and not have to pay 100bux as the evo3d isn't being sold anymore brand new since its EOL at sprint...
I'd take a HTC running ICS over moto running JB any day of the week!
Can't stand the subpar display moto uses.

HTC should do the same AS WELL AS make it mandatory that all their phones have removable batteries AND make them last all day because NONE of the current crop of phones has a battery that can last 24 hours. All the screen shots that show that much time are from people that don't really use the phone much at all.
Also a micro sd in addition to internal storage should have been mandatory

Over a day with over 3 hours of screen on time which included video streaming is pretty damn impressive considering how I was using a high brightness setting and how big the screen on this phone is.
You're expecting too much without showing any understanding of why it isn't easy to get a high end phone to last all day. It has high powered components that draw more power, as well as a bigger screen than most phones on the market. What we get from it is impressive and it isn't going to dramatically improve anytime soon, unless they start to include DROID RAZR MAXX sized batteries, which I doubt will happen soon.

I don't think i expect too much, just a battery that can last 24 hours with normal usage.
I couldn't even get 24 hours out of the raxr maxx although it came the closest.
Basically you're saying you get over a day while only using the phone for 3 hours. On a work day I'll do 4 hours just to and from work, then time during lunch and sporadic phone checks during the day and after so many hours of use, phone dies.
My galaxy s 3 had gotten me 17 hours once, but the phone was just sitting there for the most part.
I tested the standby time and just let it drain and got 3 days it of it, would have been more of i didn't send that text lol

You're getting stuck on the concept that you're only "using" your phone for as long as the screen is on. Even when the screen is off, it's doing a lot of work.
With current battery technology paired with high powered phones, you just aren't going to get that full day with a ton of screen on use that you want. We all want that. It's just not really possible right now.
I have noticed something so I'll test my hypothesis over the next day or two.
When in have my case on my phone I get random reboots. Its a form fitting case. Nothing fancy.
When out of my case no random reboots.

any results you get would just be random because people on stock get no reboots or VERY rarely, it simple as ALL JB custom roms we have are hack jobs, all the great devs are doing best can be done without official souce/drivers
crazy thing is man im having the same issue im getting reboots when it reboots ! crazy lol
Random reboots are because we don't have the stock kernel info
Confucius say... man who go to bed with itchy butt wake up with smelly finger
My phone stopped rebooting as soon as I got a nexus 7 and started using it more. I think it's jealous and wants a little more play time.
What size re-boots are we talking about here ?
I wear size 11..(grin )
Well so far my hypothesis is being ridiculed by myself and other, however....
Almost 19 hours with no case and NO random reboots.
I must conclude at this early stage that my size 13.5 reboots are in some way being caused by my skin tight case. Hmmm...I know the Kernel is an issue but I wonder if there is another element involved.
Guess I"ll have to tell wife I"m gonna have to buy another more expensive case to further me scientific research.
EDIT: My hypothesis was proved invalid. Literally the second after I posted the above it freaking REBOOTED! Oh well.
I'd add my tight case story to this.
I was using a tight fitting zenus flip case and my touchscreen was horrible at the bottom left area. I had a feeling it was affecting the digitizer because when I take it out of that case, it's completely fine.
I don't use that case anymore because I'm afraid it will cause permanent damage if left on for too long.

Although your hypothesis seems promising in reality they are called random reboots for a reason. I've gone a full week without a RR and then come last Tuesday I had gotten maybe 3 or 4 in the same day and then at least once a day until today. I literally changed nothing, updated apps like I regularly have for the entirety of the phone- in all honesty I've concluded that the reboots have no logic or meaning to their pattern- although I have found when many apps are open and the RAM is stressed at its near upmost capacity it seems to almost always reboot while scrolling in any app [reddit, xda, etc.]. This, is truly the only factor i have determined to be valid through experience.
TD;RL: Random reboots are random.

The random reboots are exceedingly annoying. Mostly because after every random reboot, there is a 50% chance that when it reboots there will be NO audio during calls. All other audio works, except for calls. When this happens, the only way to fix it is to re-flash the rom in recovery - sometimes I need to reflash more than once for it to start working again. This of course makes using CM10 difficult as a daily driver for me, so I am hoping they fix this soon.

This is very interesting, because when I think back to every time it has crashed - there are one or more auto updates which happen immediate after the device boots back up.
I will try this. I wonder if manual updates can also cause a crash.

I think we can try anything but the simple fact is until we get code, JB will be unstable. I have gone back to ICS until or if we ever get an official release.
I do understand though the interest in trying the outstanding roms our devs are producing. I just need a stable Rom for my business use.

Just make sure you're actually getting the AT&T variant. It's different from the Sprint/international ones in enough ways to matter.
Otherwise, you can do just about anything you could on any other phone...or convert to an N4 if you really wanted to.

I've had the LGOG for a while now and am more than satisfied. The bootloader is unlockable and there are a few custom ROMs going around like CFX, AOKP and CM10.1. Though they aren't fully functional, they're still fun to mess with. We also have a ported stock JB on here that works phenomenally well. I always end up going back to it even though I love custom ROMs. If you're a flashaholic and want all of the latest ROMs, you also have the option to convert the LGOG into a Nexus 4 and use custom ROMs from them.

That's small potatoes. What exactly is your concern over a removable battery? That it may go bad, I'm presuming. Even then plenty of people have opened up their phones and put them back together very easily.
I honestly do not see anything out there now or that's expected to be released that this phone cannot easily keep up with.
But seriously, if a removable battery and accessories are your thing, you should probably get a phone that is more highly marketed.
Sent from my LG-E970 using xda app-developers app
Thing is, after installing a 3200mha extended battery in my S2, I do not want to go back to the days where I would be checking the battery charge.
I want my battery to last 1.5 days at least, even if I would charge it all days at night.
All the rest, I love the OG.
Removable batteries are less important now than they used to be. A portable charger makes up for not having one.
I know them and have one of them. It is not the same by a long shot.
A case with extended battery is good enough, if done right.
I'm a heavy user, I get 4 ish hours of screen time and have about 18-20% when I put the phone down to charge at night, what more do you want? This is phenomenal battery life by today's standards.
So, how long is your day normally? I mean, you wake up at what time, and put it to sleep at what time?
Is this normal duration? Cause there are some phones where people have a lot of variation on the duration (with relative same use).
Up at 645 sleep by midnight
That is wonderful use.

I concur, the only device I've had with battery life that can rival this is the Note 2.
That is very encouraging guys.

Had 3h10m screen on with 17 hours off charger yesterday, left WiFi on all day by accident (not connected for 10 of those hours). Background data on. 40 minutes music streaming. FB and GNow turned on. Had 13% battery left when I plugged in. Battery life is notably better than stock sgs2 from which I came.

Still not ready but people wanted it as is to play with until i fix up the rest. You can get data on this build easy if you follow my instructions.
Warning:
Data hand offs, signal strength, MMS, phone call reliability, and it randomly sending your personal data to the NSA are all potential bugs.
MIUI v5 3.8.23 ported from bmarko's i9505 ROM.
*Gapps are included for now until I get it all worked out (I hate flashing multiple files)
Bugs:
Probably a lot. Report them.
Understand this is a WIP and not my main project. I take no responsibility for your phone or your ability to fix our restore anything. Always make a backup and always keep Odin packages ready.
Instructions:
Download
Backup
Install
Reboot
Skip through the setup in the beginning
Go to settings
Network settings
Subscription
It will auto set to NV. You need to set it to UIM.
Reboot.
Open phone info app
Set your network to CDMA/GSM/LTE
Wait a minute
You should be connected to full 1x/3g/4g now
Then go and add your Google account in the settings and play with the ROM.
Note: on every reboot you will need to go back into phone info app and reselect your network settings. This is because the framework doesn't have the ability to default to CDMA service yet.
Note 2:
No other kernels work on this yet. Don't try, you will boot loop.

Dubbsy!
Good to see this thread up. I'm still going to get that donation to you asap, my girls tire blew, so had that unexpected expense pop up.
Glad to see this so much further than I got, and appreciate you taking on my request!
One more reason to not trade my G 4

ahhhhhhhh nice
I would like to mention as many of you are probably aware that Google is draining some major battery life off my Galaxy S4. I had 5h 32m off the charger with only about 30 minutes screen on time and had 14% battery. After that I watched a youtube video, and the next thing I knew I had 4%. I know this is a work in progress, so believe me i'm not complaining. I love MIUI. I know this isn't ready to be a daily driver yet.... but I love MIUI so much that I will keep it one more day just to test it and see how I like it. If these battery issues were fixed, I'd use it as my daily driver regardless of bugs. Keep up the good work! I can't wait for the next update

Does NFC on this build drain battery more than it does on other roms?
Will this work on us cellular with a converter?

Potentially. I didn't include all CDMA APNs on this build like I normally do on my builds. But changing APNs isn't hard.
Getting data itself to work would be the same process as I laid out in my op. If it doesn't work out after you try it I'm sure I could get together with the gurus over at teamusc and we could work something out.
Let me know.

I have NFC on and am getting good battery life. For this being beta it runs a lot better than many other roms I have tried. Great work!
PS just need to take care of the phone problem
