That's not a fix though. Mine use to do this after the 5.1.1 update. However, its been less frequent now. No idea what causes it though.

Oh...haha it just freaked me out, cause I was suppose to back up my photos then that happen and it freaked me out. Lol so it's a common thing?
When the s6 edge was on the charging pad, it got a little warmer than before when I took it off the pad. Maybe it's a safety feature?

Backlight on during call in 2.1

Did anyone notice that during the call, the screen isn't actually turned off, the backlight is still on, it just shows blank screen. You can see this if you are in a dark ambient because of the backlight bleed on the screen.
So, while you are talking, you will lose battery charge on call and on screen backlight. I don't think it is an economical way of spending battery juice.
So actually the screen is on the whole time during the call, you just can't see it because there is nothing showing on the screen...
Or is this just my device?
X10 2.1 nordic.
I noticed that, anyway during a call, it obviously drains the battery even though the screen switched off & the use of the Proximity sensor is to switch off the screen during a call to prevent the screen from touching than the economizing the battery
I noticed a big improvement of the battery with the 2.1 Update.
I've noticed it too, I think this would waste more battery? or is it the opposite?
Of course it uses more battery power. I can't rememeber if the same situation is in 1.6. Can anyone check?
It does use current, but i think its a minor amount. The reason why they leave it active but black for example, is that if you need to quickly access the dial pad you can do that, without waiting for a second or two for the screen to power on.
I recall back on 1.6 at times it felt like eternity that it would take to bring up the dial pad during calls. I'm not sure but check to see if the screen does in fact turn off completely after a certain duration, since that would be ok.
Nope, it doesn't turn off and I wouldn't say it's a minor amount of power, because the screen is one of the most power hungry components in our phones. So if you are in a call for say 30 mins just think how much battery that would suck out. And for me, for no good reason, when I'm on the phone I don't need the screen, that is why the proximity sensor exists, to turn the screen on and off
I understand, but you have to understand how the lcd works. Producing colours or tints cause the device to use more power. The brighter the colour the more power. Since white is the brightest tint or colour, whichever you prefer, black being the opposite would use the least amount of power for the screen being on. Unless this is a type of lcd matrix that uses most power with black I read about that before somewhere. But I highly doubt SE would do that. But considering its a concern of yours there might be an dialer app that negates this hmm.
At the Sony Ericssons products Blog there was a video about the new features at 2.1
It tells also that you could press the Power-Button to turn off the light during calls.
I´ve not testet this yet, maybe of you could test this. ;-)

It does not take a second or 2 for the screen to come back on. Just test it yourself by pressing the power button, it comes on within 1 second. On a side note, in the 1.6 days the screen would stay on completely and if you press the power button it hangs up. That was a terrible implementation.

Im on 2.1, cant check it anymore. It was rather sluggish for me on 1.6. The difference may be that I had pictures for all my contacts. I like it just fine.
Yes, you can turn the screen completely off by pressing power button, I've just tried. I don't understand why do I have to do it with my finger when I have proximity sensor that works just fine when it wakes up the screen from complete power off when I move it from my face. Seems like a bug to me.
LCD screen consumes the same amount of power no matter what image it is showing, black or white, so as far as I'm concerned showing black screen during a call does absolutely nothing for me, especially not for my battery. This is so trivial that I can't believe they missed it. Or maybe some SE engineer thought X10 has AMOLED screen so it doesn't consume power when it's displaying black...
Personally, I prefer the screen turn off compared to the screen lock in 1.6 as I had a hard time unlocking the screen lock when you need to use the dial pad when on the phone.
So when you are on the phone, the screen turns off and when you move your phone away from the ear, the screen turns on.

You are 100% correct, my mistake, lcds do use the same amount of power due to the backlight. I was just on the phone for 50 minutes and my battery went down by 5%, so i think its not bad at all. I was even on wcdma/gsm.
Drop SE an email to inquire on it maybe?
Well, maybe I'm exaggerating, but this kind of screen backlight beahaviour just isn't logical to me. You say you lost 5% on 50 min call? Hmm, that really seems low...
Where can I send inquiry to SE?
i have the same problem guys.....any solution yet?
working on a more accurate solution atm.

[Q] anyone else notice!!??

has anyone else noticed that when you answer a phone call the screen turns off ...I hate it ...I have to hit the power button to wake the phone up and end the call .. does anyone have a fix for this ? thanks in advance
thats how all phones have been
is this your first smart phone bro?
if u dont cover the sensor it wont shut off
The screen should only turn off when you put it to your face . Once you pull away the phone the screen should wake . Check your settings you shouldn't have to use the power to wake it .

yea I know right lol ....I looked into the settings and haven't seen any controls for that feature
Yea I noticed the same thing. During a call pulled phone away from my face and screen stayed off. I thought something was wrong but if the call is active screen will come back on, if person hangs up and ur not quick to uncover sensor the screen stays off.
do you guys have screen protectors on your phones??? zaggs perhaps??
If anything is "blocking" your sensor, then it assumes that your face is up to the phone. The phone would then only wake up when the call is ended or the power button is pressed.
You must not have ANYTHING covering the sensor
I would say that this is most likely the case
Mine doesnt do that unless I put the phone up to my ear. Normally I just answer the phone and click it to speaker. When I do that the screen stays on....unless my hand/finger happens to be covering the light sensor.
I have Invisible Shield HD. And there's a cutout for the prox. sensor. Have the same problem. Hopefully HTC will fix it on the next firmware update

I'm not so sure about that. My OG Evo has a standard screen protector that "covers" the sensors, and they still work just fine. Maybe those crappy Zagg orange peels will interfere, but I still don't see that being too likely, as they're not really blocking any light.
I have this issue as well and after reading all over for the past two days it appears some units have this issue and some don't. Further complicating the issue is the fact some have screen protectors and some don't. Some have made cutouts on their screen protector and then it works as it should. Very weird.
As soon as I make a call the phone screen goes black while laying on my desk. When the call is over sometimes I can hit the power button to disconnect the call...sometimes I have to hold the power button down 10 seconds to soft reset the phone or I cannot get back to any screen and the call stays connected. Very weird. I got my phone at BB so I am going to stop back and see if they have had any returns and what their thoughts are.

i got my zagg lastnight and it happened
so i reapplied it, not covering the sensor on the top left
and it fixed the issue

Yeah I wish that was my issue....I don't have a screen protector on my phone and it doesn't work as designed.

I bought a Zagg and had the issue. They left a hole for a sensor but I think that's the light sensor with the proximity sensor being just to the left and covered. It's a small red light that turns on when making a call. So I made the hole bigger by making it a rectangle uncovering the proximity sensor. Now my phone goes on and off like it should when putting it to my ear. Maybe that'll help some of you? Though I have read some people having the issue without screen protectors.

Not sure if this will help or not, but in settings/accessibility settings there is an option to end calls using the power button. Might help.
OK, this is a bit OT so I apologize. But I can't figure it out and really dont feel it warrants a new thread. I hope you dont mind me dropping this in here.
Yesterday, at some point, this icon came into my notification bar and i CANNOT, for the life of me figure out what it is.
It looks kinda like a hearing aid or Bluetooth headset icon. But I use neither. I've looked all thru settings trying to figure it out. Checked thru accessibility . Just stumping me, and making me feel REALLY stupid.
Much thanks to anyone who knows.

I experienced the same issue with the screen turning off as soon as I placed a call. I pulled the Zagg HD off and the issue was resolved. I'm going to best buy today to exchange the Zagg for a new one and I will cut a little notch into it to see if it works.
After the screen goes off you have to press the power button but that little red dot next to the proximity sensor stays on unless you flash a bright light on it. I think regardless the proximity sensor is really sensitive and the Zagg HD just makes it that much more finicky.
Being in a dimly lit area makes it worse too.
**Update**
I went to bestbuy and exchanged my Zagg HD for a new one. I got home notched the cutout for the sensor a little more. Installed it and now I don't have any issues with the screen turning off.

[Q] Backlight faulting

Has anyone else had issues with their back light faulting? I've searched and have seen that other sprint evo lte users have had issues with screen flickering, but my problem seems to be more serious that that. when i wake up in the morning the screen is blank. thank god i have a custrom rom installed and can manually mess with the status bar slider to get the backlight to turn back on. It just needs to be tweaked here and there. the backlight seems to only like to work on full brightness, if not, it will flicker like crazy. if i press with more pressure on certain parts of the screen the backlight turns off completely until i remove my finger. I dont think its a proximity issue since it'll just flicker sitting on a desk. Do I need to replace the screen? is this worth it? i havent dropped to phone or anything for this to default. I can upload a video later. gonna use my OG evo for that which is still kicken by the way
I realize this thread is incredibly old, but did you ever find a solution to the flickering problem? I just started seeing the exact same behavior, including the screen going dark when putting pressure on certain areas of the screen.
Thanks!
I have a PJ75100 doing this, but the screen does not function at all. I get the orange/green light while charging, and if I power it on it acts as if it's doing it's regular startup, but nothing shows on screen.
I did update the stock firmware with the latest release ruu, but still no screen.
I'd really like to get this one going as it's not the normal Jewel, it's the white and silver one, and my girlfriend wants it to replace her iPhone 5c.

[Q] How to enable clock on S6 edge screen in sleep mode

On my S6 edge I have on occasion seen that the black sleep screen suddenly showed the clock in big numbers (not the edge clock), and the faded away.
I know that I can get to see the edge screen by swiping up and down. But for the life of me do not know how to get the clock to appear on the sleep screen.
I have tried the home button, volume buttons, power button but all of this basically just turns the screen on.
Any suggestions?

That screen should only be possible with the Clear View case on. Are you using any type of case with your S6?
There are magnets inside the Clear View case which the phone uses to detect when the cover is closed to display that screen.
There might be a bug with your phone if that is happening.
Do you have any strong magnets around your phone, like a speaker or anything, that might be setting it off? But even so, that still shouldn't happen since Clear View cases also have an NFC chip to enable that functionality to ensure that just normal magnets won't set it off (and to prevent fake cases and counterfeits).
Are you rooted and have some tweak installed that you forgot about perhaps?
That's the strange thing. It did show and I do not have any case for the S6.
No it was not close to a magnet.
It is not rooted.
Thx for the reply

That's very strange. Are you able to take a quick picture of it when it happens, I know that'll be hard to do.
Are you sure it is the exact same screen as the Clear View Case screen? Maybe it's something that looks similar, for example if you have a dark lockscreen.
Do you have Air Gesture Wakeup turned on (where you wave your hand over the screen and it turns on)? On the S4 you could make a similar screen turn on by using Air Gesture but on the S6 it takes you straight to the lockscreen. Maybe it's that in combination with something else?
I've been trying myself to get that screen to come on but without seeing what the actual screen looks like I'm out of ideas.

Thx for trying. Taking a screen shot would be difficult as it comes on only for a few seconds. Haven't seen it for the last few days strangely enough.
I got the same thing yesterday, it even had the edge tabs lit up from messages I had waiting. No case, but my phone was close up my laptop when I saw it, maybe a magnetic field thing??
That happens when you have a message or email or missed call from one of your 5 edge contacts. The pull out side menu also bulges out with the color of the contact. Very cool feature!

I just realized that yesterday, but I noticed that it only works when the phone is laying down and your really need to pick it up quickly, if I slowly/gently pick up the phone, that feature doesn't activate. I also noticed that it likes to shut off fast, even interacting with the bubble, you gotta open up the app quickly as the screen doesn't give you time to actually read what's on it.
If Samsung tweaks that a bit to active more easily and keep the screen on a few seconds longer, it'll be a nice feature.
The occasional clock still happens on my phone
I just bought a Galaxy S6 edge+ two weeks ago... and the case I ordered for it should be here tomorrow.
The face, not the edge, of the clock lighting up when I pick it up has been happening randomly since I bought it. It is usually accompanied with the phone vibrating too. So it has nothing to do with the case (which I don't have one yet), or where the phone has been sitting.
I honestly thought this was a feature, and have spent at least 10 hours trying to track this feature down. Only to learn that the online manual is already outdated for my phone. I'm not sure what came pre-loaded, but the first thing it did was a complete upgrade to Android 5.1.1. ...and that took place via Wifi, even before I was able to activate the phone.
Granted, the phone works great! I seriously love it! But, completely randomly, as far as I've been able to tell, it shows the clock on main screen when the rest of the phone is asleep, when I pick it up. Meanwhile, the edge clock works great whenever I want it. But when pulling the phone out of my pocket, I would like to see the "big clock" on the main screen without having to hit a button or swipe the screen. But correct me if I am wrong. It would seem that the only "official" way for this to happen is to buy a certain type of case for it?
My mom has a Droid Turbo. And other than the insane battery life (48 hours talk time), the other feature I really like about it is that you can just wave you hand anywhere near the screen and the clock turns on. I was hoping that this was some sort of feature of the S6 edge+ too. But I guess I am wrong about this.
Any thoughts as to why the clock sometimes comes on, but most of the time doesn't, when I pick it up?

My observation is that this happens whenever theres a notification waiting, if the phone gets picked up with a pending notification it vibrates and shows the clock with the edge tabs visible too. Has anyone found a way to turn this on at will?

Galaxy Note 4 is Working, but the screen is black

My phone was working fine when I went to bed last night. I laid it on my night stand and this morning I noticed I couldn't get the screen to light up. The blue LED was blinking like I had messages. The Menu and Back buttons light up when I press them, and I can even hear when someone is calling me, but because the screen will not light up, I can't answer. The phone screen is in near perfect condition, not a scratch or crack on it and I also have a cheap protective screen over it.
Hoping it was just a glitch, I removed the battery and held the power button for about 45 seconds and powered it back on. Same thing, black screen during the entire boot process, no logos or anything. I also tried to boot it in safe mode with same results. There is only one time that the screen shows any signs of life and it only happens when I first power it on. In the top left corner for a split second, where the usual "Bootloader is unlocked" message appears, it displays a small rectangle of colored artifacts inside that small message area.
I assume the LCD went out, but I'm concerned it could also be related to the GPU or other hardware, and so don't want to spend a lot of money buying a LCD if it's something else. I can still connect it to the PC, so I'm hoping someone knows how I can test the hardware from the PC, or at least recommend something. Right now the phone is ringing and I have no idea who it is...this sucks!
