I am a complete n00b... I have a Samsung SGH-I897. I was trying to flash from Froyo to GB using odin. I did not root it (I guess I was thinking I didn't need to from stock to another stock fw). It's bricked. I bought a JIG, but nothing happens, just black screen. Please someone point me in the right direction.
Im not understanding your question, so you bricked your phone trying to lash a rom without root?
I didnt have it rooted. Tried flashing it. During the write of the fw it bricked from there. No response from the phone. now it wont do anything. Bought a jig and new batteries and still nothing. Button combo will not work either.
so you flashed a rom without your phone being rooted?
Bricked
Your phone is bricked because you didnt root it.i think you wont lost your warranty go to customer service and tell them that the phone is not booting..k?
It wasn't rooted. I bought the phone from an individual and use it with Straight Talk prepaid through walmart (unlimited talk, text, and web $45). The phone uses att towers so I am essentially getting att service. I doubt I could get it fixed under warranty? I was thinking about sending it off to someone who had a riff box to tag it. That will set me back 30 bucks, but if there is any chance that its covered under manufacturers warranty that would be the way to go. So I'm assuming jtag, warranty replacement, or replacement are my only options?
Replace it brother...that's better
Xperian8~ click thanks if it helps...
Am i really need to root to manage the ram usage? I mean my problem is that when i read something with adobe reader than i search after something on the web and after it i return to my pdf file the adobe reader is fully closed and i need to search where is was in the doc.
I personally see no downside of rooting tbh, aslong as your confident in actually doing it, its all totally reversible, and working for a mobile phone company myself, I doubt the repair center would ever know it was done , should you need to send away in warranty
ive got 3 galaxys (2 i9000 and one 9100) all of them rooted and got problems that need service center - they never refused repair knowing that phones are rooted - i always got them repaired without root and with latest firmware upgraded
root is totaly reversible anyway

I also had this I broke my digitiser and I even asked the repair team if it mattered I rooted and he said it was fine.
Plus there is a very easy root method and you can still stay on your stock ROM and kernel so you can manage ram with no downside.
Firstly, I want to make it clear that I cannot reset the flash counter due to the "emmc brick bug". My phone won't accept any flash via Odin etc at all (hangs at NAND write start). I've tried many times with different cables, computers, software versions.
So my phone is pretty much useless but I still have warranty. The point of this thread is really how could I maximize my chances of getting Samsung to do a replacement?
To the experts out there, what state would I have to put my phone in JUST ENOUGH so that it is impossible for the tech to see the flash counter (hence voiding warranty)?
Background story: I was using my phone one day (never rooted it) and it suddenly froze, I power off and power on and bam... bricked. So I tried to flash and fix it, however... did not turn out great. So I wasn't screwing around with any flashing just bad hardware, I hope this is a good enough reason for a replacement.
So essentially you want to defraud Samsung ? You voided your warranty the moment you increased the flash counter.
Here I have a customers Galaxy Mega from AT&T, She claims she isn't rooting or installing any types of custom recovery on her phone, we replaced the board on the phone once, and she came back a day later with the same issue. The phone bootloops, but when I try to get into recovery it says "Unauthorized Software has been detected take it to the nearest AT&T store for help" She says the phone was updating, and it does this. This has happened twice now, and I've tried Odin back to stock, and Kies, but at no avail. What is the possibilities, or how can I fix this? Thanks.
I am not an AT&T Representative btw, but her Knox void counter says 0x1 (Which I guess means its tripped)
Usually we only deal with hardware repairs such as cracked screens or components, but we don't want to be left with a dead board.
Thanks for all the help in advance. How can I get this phone to at least just come back on?
I believe she got the kk official update and this has happened to many users i read and this is an official update which is pretty poor of samsung to do this..and if it was updated to the NE7 rom i believe for the AT&T phone then at this time there is no fix as far as i know..this has even happened on the i527m (canadian version) as after the update a bootloop or touchscreen not working and no wifi..so she is telling the truth i believe..and samsung should address this problem as it is their update causing these problems.
On some phones it seems to update alright but the majority of them it is not working out well at all, so i do not think it is a board problem it is the bootloader that could be causing all this grief and many a few other files in the update.
Now i am not sure on the boards you are replacing as they would be good..but as soon as the update comes in again...it could be making the phone act the same way as the last time it updated.
I have a galaxy J5 which i (tried) to unroot kingroot (app made by chinese hackers) i just got my phone out from repair and i rooted it again, i thought nothing would go wrong if i did not tamper with system apps etc. The battery goes down to 0 over time as usual when I was using it, i then put it on charge and I get this message "CUSTOM BINARY BLOCKED", I unrooted the phone prior and i stopped receiving security disabled notifications. I know that the warranty will be void as it shows the ODIN counter in the bootloader, no files to fix this have worked as they contain ads and malware. I do not have the money to pay for the repair, the only other option is i put it in the washing machine and make an insurance claim. Please help, it would be much appreciated. (Yes i know, i am a n00b!)
