Unroot or Back to Stock? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I'm looking for some help/advice. I did search and didn't find anything on this although I would think it would have been covered before so my apologies if I missed it and it's already been answered.
I'm currently running Stang5Litre 5.0 OC1 V2 which I installed with Flashfire and I'm having a lot of issues with Good For Enterprise and it's root check. I can get it to work with Xposed as long as I stay on an old version of Good, but I've had two accidental upgrades that triggered a compliance failure and it's a long process with my work to get a new pin to get it going again. Using the detach from market in Titanium doesn't stick. I'm also interested in using Android Pay and can't get that to work at all. So I'm now considering getting rid of root. There isn't that much I do anymore that truly requires a rooted phone other than I really like being able to get rid of all the bloat and being able to freeze and unfreeze in Titanimum.
So my question is what options do I have? Can i fully unroot a debloated ROM or would I need to flash a stock unrooted OC1 ROM? Also, is the fact that my Samsung boot screen shows as unlocked an issue? I know that simply removing SuperSU isn't enough. I don't want to do anything that is going to prevent me from changing my mind down the road and going back to a rooted ROM which I know means not installing anything after OC1.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

After doing a little more research on Good, I think I have no choice but to flash a completely stock unrooted ROM. Apparently it checks too many things to simply remove Root. So what are my options for going back to stock and still keeping the ability to root down the road if I choose?
Thanks

like if i flash that, what will happen?
example questions:
1)Will the os be the exact same as when i first took it out of the box?
or will somethings be gone, e.g. TouchWiz, AT&T apps, apps already pre installed ect..?
2) or is this method's soul purpose is to achieve root and upon flashing, it will retain everything that was loaded on the phone when first taken out of the box?
sorry about the noob question. but i have to get started somehow.

1. Still be EXACTLY LIKE stock with TW and all. You will just have ROOT. Which is like having FULL ADMIN capabilities when relating it to windows computers. ROOT is just the Linux dirivitive of it.
2. Yes.
It is up to you what you want to keep or get rid of as far as any apps/bloatware that ATT/SAMSUNG put on the phone.

I really appreciate it, thanks. Do you recommend i root? i kind of want to delete all that bloatware and all that crap.
Does rooting (w/o installing a new rom) still allow me to get updates from AT&T? When ICS comes out (assuming it does), will we still get an OTA update for it?
Thanks,

rooting, in itself, doesnt do anything to your phone. if you plan on removing all the crap from the phone, then you will need root access. So yes, if thats what you want ... root away. Just be careful of what you remove. You CAN screw up your phone if you remove too much.

Because you need to flash a new kernel, I can't say for sure. I dont see why it wouldn't work but then again ... you did mofidy the phone ever-so-slightly, so it might not work. Not sure why you would want OTA updates anyway. The great devs in here will have those OTA updates incorporated into their ROMs shortly after the OTA is released.
@pistolberserk,
Entropy512's stock + root will not change the flash counter. If you are concerned about voiding the warranty, you might want to read the guides linked in my signature.
@Geremyhamlett,
That AT&T would release an OTA of ICS is highly speculative. But I agree with nyydynasty (and almost all other experienced users here that wouldn't even do an OTA update).

[Q] OTA after root

Hi everyone. Im real good with tech but i cant find anyone having asked...
I want to go buy the S4 and I will definitely root it (following the posted instructions on here) but before i do, will i be able to instal OTA updates after and if not, is there another way id be able to install updates? I used Voodoo rootkeeper on my tablet after rooting and the 1st ota went fine and kept root, the 2nd ota killed the root even while using Voodoo...
Please, any any all responses asap appreciated. I want to get the phone asap as i am tired of my rooted Bionic.
Thank all.

Just wait for a rooted stock ROM based on the OTA to be made by a dev. You never NEED to take an OTA.
Thanks but im not sure what you mean. I have no interest in loading custom roms nor over-screwing around with the phone. Do you mean wait for another root process or wait for a download for an ota update?
Thanks again
Im guessing you mean a rom will be released again after the ota is out with the ota integrated in it... That process makes me kind of nervous as i need my phone for work as well as personal and cant risk screwing up the phone or erasing data eta...
There is pretty much always someone that releases the stock ROM flashable in a custom recovery so you can have a rooted stock ROM. Look at the dev beanstownm106 ROM in the development section. It is basically the stock ROM rooted with some very minor tweaks, but flashable with a custom recovery like TWRP.
BUT...there is almost never anything you can't do with basically any ROM that you can do with the stock ROM. So you really don't need the stock ROM...some people just prefer it. For my old Thunderbolt, it was pretty well known that for a long time there was a custom ROM, very similar to the stock ROM, that was more stable than stock (SkyRaider Zeus).
Another BUT: if you need Good for work, prepare for a constant fight with root detection. And you will want to back up your data often. I have a BB for work that I leave untouched (its not mine).
One more thing...the Loki workaround has its advantages...the bootloader is still locked and untouched, so it would be pretty hard to brick the device because you can get back into download mode and use odin to flash back to factory.
Whats the loki workaround? Also, im dont want to be doing any kind of flashing... I just simply want to root the s4 (which i now have) and be able to run ota updates or if not, download the ota and install the update manually. And if i get an ota, if it will kill root, even if i run voodoo.
Please, if someone could, let us all know if ota wont run or will kill root on say the s3 or s4 and if downloadable updates are another option... without flashing anything or going to crazy.
Thanks again in advance.

[Q] Questions about rooting process, samsung updates, and Knox

I had long been using a rooted phone before I got the S5, but things seem a little different now. I held off on rooting the S5 because I wanted to be sure that I was going to keep it long term before I did. So yesterday I did some research on here and elsewhere and ended up rooting via towelroot and getting SuperSU installed without flashing. Now I just need to figure out a few things and was hoping to get some help understanding what comes next.
I've been reading about concerns over tripping "Knox" holding folks back from flashing custom recover and ROMs. I'm not a touchwiz fan but I can tolerate it. If there were no cost, I'd probably just install Xposed or something like that but is this Knox thing important? What am I giving up if I flash a custom recovery?
SuperSU "disabled" Knox when I started it. What functions of Knox are disabled? Can I flash recovery and roms without incident now that it is disabled?
Almost as soon as I got done rooting and installing SuperSU last night, I got a notification from samsung saying that "an update is required to access samsung services". Was that triggered by the rooting of the phone? Can I install that update without loosing root access?
Last question: Now that I have root, what do I need to do to keep it? Will it be rolled back by any OTA update, and if so, what must I do to prevent that?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You wouldn't have had to search or read very far in the forum to find answers to all of your questions. These get asked over and over, pretty much every day.
If you are contemplating a custom recovery, then read a thread about e.g. TWRP to learn about it's advantages. As just one of many advantages, it's the only way that you can make a proper, 100% backup.
Installing a custom recovery will increment Knox because Knox has not been removed from the bootloader. However most people don't obsess about the Knox flag. The only significant downside to the flag is that it might invalidate a minority of warranty claims.
Block e.g. rename or freeze the OTA updater to avoid losing root. An update will generally break it and there is no assurance that you will always be able to reroot. SuperSU Pro has a feature that attempts to restore root after an update.

Re-enabling OTAs after Knox trip?

Hey everyone. I decided I would unlock my bootloader and trip Knox about two days before towelroot came out. Yay.
I've since gotten the OPO, so I wasn't that concerned. I wanted to give the phone to my mom who lives in another state, so I Odin'ed back to what I believe is the most current OEM firmware available (NK2) because I want my mom to be able to get updates OTA and not have to worry about troubleshooting her phone as much as if it were a custom ROM, or a phone with root.
Unfortunately, checking for a system update says the system is modified (ROM is all stock though) and device status is custom. I also discovered while testing the phone (it had been sitting in a drawer for months) that the microphone isn't working very well. I tried different sims, calling different people on different networks, I'm sure it's hardware problem. Is there any way to re-enable the OTAs? I'd like to get this hardware problem warrantied. The knox tripping didn't destroy the mic, so please no judgement here. I'm also not comfortable in removing the glass to replace the mic. If the mic could be replaced without that step, I would simply do that.
Thank you.

Hmm. Last time I Odined back to stock, using the tar file of the firmware version that came before NK2, my device was totally fine to receive OTA, despite Knox being tripped. Try removing root first, then Odin stock NK2, then factory reset.
Hm, so I now need to install SuperSU in order to use the un rooting function? I would've thought a full stock image file would've eliminated root...
EDIT - Simple Root checker says SuperSU is not installed BUT terminal app "does Rooted".
Installed SuperSU, but binary is not installed, so it doesn't run. WTH? What happened to the good old days of just flashing stock images and not worrying about it anymore?
SOLVED
I looked at the slightly outdated stock collection thread, flashed the NG4 stock image, then was able to take the OTA update to NK2. Went ahead and told T-Mobile the whole problem and they really only seemed to care if there was physical damage or water damage (which there is not).
Just leaving this here for future searches. How do I get this thread closed?

How to backup Stock OS?

Hi,
I am completely new to custom Android ROMs. I have a Verizon Galaxy S4 with OF1 update. I managed to root my phone using KingRoot, but I'm trying to figure out how to create some kind of backup of my stock ROM. Basically I want to be able to restore my phone back to factory default if I ever run into problems. I read that once I delete something with root, then I cannot get it back again... hence I want the ability to restore my phone to original factory default. I know the GS4 is an old phone now, but I want to squeeze a year of life before I get a new phone (and get some experience with modding Android).
A lot of guides on the internet seem to be suited for older versions of Android on the Galaxy S4, so I didn't find them helpful. Can anyone give me a starting point?

I'm not by any means promoting my videos but I have a few YouTube videos that walk you through the process to get rid of KingRoot and install SuperSU and Install Flashfire. With Flashfire, you can backup your stock ROM for future use. Here are some video links: https://youtu.be/LAENraWBNVM and https://youtu.be/g31TkZE6Vp0
With Flashfire, I would recommend playing around with a couple custom ROMs out there from @stang5litre
