This is just for anyone who wants to root the Gigabyte rebranded pioneer R1 7 inch tablet.
After spending alot of time looking all over online in various forums and trying each of the many used root applications
including:
SRSRoot :failed
Framaroot :not supported
Root with Restore by Bin4ry :failed
SuperOneClick :failed
and trying thru cmd line in the ASDK :failed (couldn't copy to temp folder, probably my own inexperience using ASDK)
I went to the more questionable Kingo :failed
and even more questionable Vroot :success!
replaced the Chinese Su with one from google play
and then removed a chinese app that had been installed along with root
VRoot_1.7.3.4863_english_cid1005_7337ba1e_89
is the program I used
As with anything pertaining to kingo or vroot

Hey everyone - I recently purchased this tablet as well and can confirm that rooting was successful with VRoot English V. 1.7.3.4863. Finding the file was a pain in the ass, but I finally found a copy.
It might set off your antivirus, but I didn't have any side effects from running. When it runs, it downloaded the ADB drivers for my device. I think that is why it reaches out to its Chinese server. Once I was finished, I deleted and ran MalwareBytes, AVG, and another antivirus to confirm that there were no residual effects. Seems to be clean and false alarm.
Best of luck either way!

1) dont know it just hung on updating for hours.
2) we currertly dont know how to get it into recovery mode , 1 recessed reset button and a power button, most boots into recovery use vol+ and vol-
3)I was on 4.2.2 before this happened
4)it updated itself on reboot, auto download over wifi I think
5)I havent talked to Cs yet only sent an email which remains unanswered until monday at the earliest
6)ravensmoke called Cs and they told him
"The Pioneer people didnt want to do any troubleshooting. told me to send it to them to fix and that if they found anything wrong other than hardware issue i am liable for the charges on top of the shipping cost"

7)possible to download the "pioneer r1 update app" in playstore and update from there
8)pick up your tablet keep all receipts walmart does up to 7 day refunds
i dont have the tablet yet but i ordered it from walmart online and it says it comes with a 1yr warrenty.
so your telling me as soon as i boot it up its going to update to the firmware that causes the boot loop?
or do u have to update myself with the update app?.
when did u update it?
and is it working now?

it does have a warranty that covers hardware issues and not shipping
its entirely possible , I didnt have an issue untill friday when I rebooted the tablet
I didnt update it, it did so automatically
no, Cs was not open on sat-sun
ravensmoke42069 said Cs told him there was no way to go into recovery so he would have to send it to them to fix
brandonlee96 after the day Ive had with both sides of pioneers Cs, I advise you to pick up the tablet and immediately head to the Cs desk and return the tablet.
If you keep it and run into any problems they will not troubleshoot the problem, they simply want you to ship them the item you paid for and pay for shipping as well as find the issue is not covered under warranty and bill you for "fixing" their screw up.This is not how a company should be operating selling consumer goods w/ warranty. I've had to return electronics before and while I can understand paying the shipping to their company, the threat that "if it's anything other then a hardware issue, we will be forced to charge you before returning the item to you" is utter bs.
I call Scam and I will not be purchasing anything bearing a pioneer logo ever again.

Hi everyone. I also bought last week the Truesmart+ watch (maybe wasn't a good idea ). It is running Android 5.1 version, and has an built-in external µSD card support (didn't found this information nowhere).
I successfully succeed in rooting with iRoot via PC, then backing up with MTKdroid Tools. I tried to flash the "openrecovery-twrp-2.7.1.0-omatesmartwatch2" (build for Truesmart 1st version) with SP Flash Tool 3.13 that displayed the green logo at the end, meaning flash was successful. But even after using ADB commands ("adb reboot recovery") or using an APP like "Quick reboot" to boot in recovery mode, the watch displays for 1/8 seconds the Truesmart logo, then reboot in normal mode. Can someone help us please ?

so I think you have two different watches mistaken. You likely used the recovery that is intended for the original OmateTS while what you have is a newer version . Being you list it as TrueSmart+ and also say its 5.1 that tell mes , long with you saying you just bought it , that it is not the same watch as that TWRP is for.

I've just checked my files, found backups for Truesmart but not Truesmart+. Maybe I didn't pay attention to keep then after the device died. Sorry for you. If I can suggest something, buy a Samsung Gear S model, much better, reliable, even more expensive.

Hi,
I'm brand new to this forum and my name is Jessy, and it's my pleasure to be here!
I recently bought this AT&T GoPhone (for around $29) at Walmart, and I was following this guide to allow me to use my SD Card as an internal memory storage unit for my phone, but I found out that I need to unlock the Bootloader, install TWRP, SuperSU and Link2SD apps to the SD card and my phone. Since this smart phone is similar to the Idol 3, could I use this method to unlock the Bootloader for my phone or do I have to try a different approach?
I appreciate your time and I look forward to contribute further to these forums! Thanks again!
-Jessy
I picked one up on Black Friday, and decided to root it. I was only able to install an older version of SuperSU though (v2.46). First I had to install the PC version of KingRoot (It's in Chinese I believe, but middle button is always "next" or "yes"), root the phone, and then replace KingRoot with SuperSU. Took me a few tries.
This is the guide I used from the forum:
SuperSU Me_6.4.apk
KingRootSetup v3.2.0.1129.exe
1. install kingrootsetup on pc(must have internet connection to work)
2. connect ur phone with ADB enabled from developers option
3. root ur phone by following on screen instructions...
4. after rooting, install supersume on phone
5.open the app, click on big blue button and wait...
done,replaced kingroot with supersu..

My Alcatel Ideal 4060A froze a few times during the removal of KingRoot, but all I did was: turn off the phone, remove the battery, and finish the procedure once the phone was on. The phone was only $10 on Black Friday, so you could say it was only an experiment on my part. Unless it's a really good phone, where you can go to the manufacture's website and download the original firmware and install it through your PC, there's not much you can do to unbrick a cheap phone that is practically unknown.

Thank you Mario for your help! I'm having a little trouble having my phone being recognized by Kingroot, although I have ADB enabled from the developers option, it seems not to pickup my phone still. I'm still trying though and I'll let you know if I get it to work properly, and perhaps document my mistake so others following this post who happen to have the same problem could know what to do.

*UPDATE*
Just wanted to update that I found out what was my mistake, which is a really simple and basic mistake, I apologize!
What I did was that after I had enabled ADB through my phone, it was already connected to my PC right after I had downloaded Kingroot, so my solution here was simple. I turned off my phone first, then I turned it back on while still connected with Kingroot still running then Kingroot finally read my phone and it rooted it as you outlined. Thanks again for your help, it is too valuable for me!
Here's the guide that I'm following so that I could install more apps to the phone through my 64 GB SD card if you guys were interested, to make the phone more useful, and I also installed my obama phone SIM card on it as well (from lifeline wireless, because hey why not? )

No problem. I'm glad you got the phone rooted. I originally picked up the phone to use as an MP3 player, so I removed most of the unnecessary stock apps with "System app remover (ROOT)", but now that I see how good the phone is (at that price), I plan to use it as a backup phone. It even has a notification LED light for unopened messages LOL; anyway, good luck.
My Alcatel bricked too using this method stuck at boot logo and does nothing... Any fix?
Thanks for writing rooting method for Alcatel 4060a Ideal Pop445. Need some help

I've been an iPhone user for many years, I'm almost new to android. I have unlocked the bootloader from the hidden developers options in the settings app. I haven't found any thing useful to root my new Alcatel Ideal 4060a (Pop 445) (at&t unlocked). There are tons of bloatwares and many apps that I can't transfer to sd card. I hope you two can help me out here as I don't want to brick my device.
Question 1: Do jessy did something wrong(regarding your given steps to root) that makes her device rooted OR she has just been lucky? Because someone just posted that he/she has bricked his/her device.
Should I go ahead and try my luck with your method you there would be some advice you would like to give?
Question 2: If I would be able to root this device, would I be able to install Android 6.0 Marshmellow?

I have rooted with Kingroot 5; latest windows version on their website. Now I'm working on replacing it with Supersu or Supersu-me.
I think there always be some solution as far as you are seeing something on your phone's screen.
Just a note from another user with an Alcatel Ideal 4060a... (got for $10 from Best Buy on Black Friday)
Don't try using King-O-Root, then proceed to install Super SU from Google Play. It works that first launch, but on rebooting...
It's permanently bricked. And yes, I tried everything, including adb, recovery (doesn't have an option to flash a rom), from-pc flashing (wouldn't connect/wasn't recognized by adb or the other tools), fastboot (wouldn't launch), etc.
I don't know about the alternate Kingroot app, though. That probably works as some people have said it does for this model.
I was stupid and assumed King-O-Root would work as well, since it seems pretty generic and worked for another phone. I've learned my lesson and will now only follow guides for the specific phone model I have.
Why am I even writing this if it's a different rooting app? Cause I spent 6 hours just to end up killing one of my phones, and this is my best attempt at feeling like there was some worth to the waste. (the chance of preventing someone else the misfortunate, and just ranting)
Anyway, I'm going to bed. (So annoying because I only barely was brash enough to go ahead without a phone-specific guide--was on the fence, but landed on the unfortunate side) Argh! Argh! Argh!

Any solution for this? I want to replace King-O-Root with Super SU.
None that I know of.
I have another Android phone that I was also trying to get root on, and that one gets it temporarily using King-O-Root as well, but I'm too paranoid to try to make it permanent on that second one. Losing both my Android phones would be too painful.
If anything, I guess try the KingRoot program, from the pc, and then use the "SuperSU Me" app, as the person on the first page of this thread described. That way worked for at least one person apparently. (though the poster just after said it bricked theirs, so beware)
By the way, is your root from King-O-Root temporary (till restart) or permanent? I installed Super SU during the same launch I used King-O-Root, so I never got to see whether King-O-Root itself would have worked as a permanent (though non-ideal) solution. (I know that on my other Android phone it's temporary)
King-O-Root = Bricked Phone
KingRoot5 = Root Successful + it is possible to replace with SuperSU

I pulled the boot file. Could someone maybe look at that? I cannot boot to the bootloader.
I could try to flash_image twrp to the recovery and try that.
I got this phone on black friday, shortly after I got root with kingroot 5 pc and it was all great, however I got greedy and replaced kingoroot with supersu :silly:. First reboot and it goes into boot loop. Now its been sitting in a drawer. I think that purify deleted some app it looks at boot.
It looks like the simplest way to get a restore is 'IF' TCL/Alcatel does an update, someone intercepts the signed zip file, then that zip file could be distributed and used with the stock restore.
Hopeful everyone here can work a better solution... thanks for all your hard work everyone.
yes u r right

hi i bought this tablet few weeks ago and i have in my hands for around a week , i'm having some serious issues to use it because the rom basically sucks (continous crash of almost every app, sometimes it reboots by himself etc.)
i wanted to ask if other people have it and if they're facing the same issues , and the most important thing :if there is a twrp and a custom rom to replace this abomination
sorry for my bad english
I received this tablet a week ago and it just restarted once. Not that bad.
I just have another issue: battery charging. Just 3 days ago, I found that the i8 max couldn't be fully charged! Charging stopped at 83% even I plugged in for whole night. I will try the soft-reset tonight and see what happened.
Anyone having similar problem?

Tried using Power + Vol- but the device kept rebooting. Then pressing Power + Vol+ gave me a boot menu. I selected wipe cache and reboot again ...... no luck. The battery meter stayed at 86% after 8 hours of charging
Seems we need a better rom.
Finally i succesfully unlocked bootloader , flashed a twrp (starting with a xiaomi redmi note 4 twrp i make the porting to make it works on voyo)
And flashed superSU too
But the experience on this tablet still sucks
The firmware from voyo website is not able to flash with sp tools , or twrp so is useless .
If somebody successfully port or create an alternative rom for this tab let us know

If you could share instructions and files for bootloader unlock and root to the forum, that would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.
Now it's easier
For unlock bootloader you need to download mediatek drivers on Windows and activate usb debug and oem unlock bootloader (or similar) in dev option , from then open a powershell and use adb like other phones
For twrp , google "voyo i8 max twrp" guide and download link are there (i think it s not allowed to post external link)
For root download superSU and flash from twrp
If you need other infos , ask
Sorry for my bad english , it's difficult to write a guide in another language

Hi. Thanks. My difficulty is actually to find the TWRP file for the i8 Max. Googling it leads you to the GetDroidTips website which gives you a link to the twrp file that is on a Russian forum page. However the download link on that Russian forum page is dead. I tried to contact the writer of the article on GetDroidTips website, but he's not responding. All I want really is a valid download link to the twrp file. Everything else I should be able to do fine from there...
Could someone post the TWRP file someplace...
Once I can load TWRP and root I'll make a backup of the bare firmware and make it available.

Hi,
Twrp for Voyo I8 Max
Can someone help please?
Hi all,
I follow Aditya Singh's article to port 3 twrp recoverys for Voyo i8 max.
Installing with SP Flash Tool, I can boot to each recovery of them.
You can choose one of them and I hope it works well on you pad.
* I'm not a pro. Thus, I may NOT provide help for your technical problems. I also NOT sure those recoverys won't damage your pad or data. If you have doubts about this, please do not download them.
Download link: (As a new guy, I can't post any link now. Open it by yourself)

Note:
1. The original twrp recoverys are prepared for Xiaomi Redmi Note4_MTK by cofface and geoanto555.
2. Aditya Singh's article is "How to Port TWRP for MediaTek 64 bit MT67XX Devices!!"

I have the i8 Plus framework file that Voyo has for an i8 reload image. I will try my hand at creating TWRP file and see how they differ. Really need to get my device rooted so I can get the CPU control optimised and to see just how much of the OS is faked by parms in the kernel.
Already had one Octa-Core pad that was actually a dual core hyped up. Lucky for me the guy was in the USA and filed for a refund on it. Only found out after I rooted it and reran tests to really see what was on the inside.
Even so, there are a lot of great reviews about my device. Perhaps I'll try my hand at porting Dirty Unicorn, Remix OS, or Android 8.x.
As is, I'll pay my review after I load the second SIM with my new number.
ADMINISTRATOR: Can we get our own forum group for our device?
Device: Voyo i8 Max
Device code: i8-max
Thanks
Hi bro,
Honestly, I don't figure out what you mean 'cause my English is poor. I guess you wanna find a method to root your i8 plus. I port a twrp for i8 plus with the same method I mentioned.
Again, I don't guarantee that this recovery will not damage your device. You MUST take risk by yourself.

By the way, what do you mean about "ADMINISTRATOR: Can we..."?

The file on the Voyo site is for the i8-Plus. I have sent repeated emails to "VoyoJack" and have received no response. I have another email address for him and I will try that way. I have recently tried to review the files and found that the framework is the wrong one. I think Voyo made a mistake in posting it - but it is possible that the same framework loads on both devices. Voyo has yet to confirm this.
The actual .img file is a SP Tools recovery image with scatter. (If you don't know what that means, look up how the SP Tools program works).
hs4842 said:
The framework file, while a .img extension, is actually a zip file with all the ADB pulls of the software. Which makes me think they slapped together something to appease folk like us. But it does contain the boot loader and the scatter files needed to make a working TWRP.

Actually the file is a scatter retrieved file that is an entire copy of the i8 Plus framework - that is loaded on i8 Plus and Max (not sure if loaded on PRO). The USA versions of the i8 Max have additional security measures to keep folks from modifying them. Although bootloader unlock programs for other Voyo products seem to work on this device as well.
The device may very well have fake IMEI numbers. The IMEI number does not pass validation. While they will work on most networks, they are still invalid IMEI numbers. Additionally, the serial numbers of these devices are 0123456789ABCDEF - which means they are common hack loads of Android on the device. Even though the device has great performance, the drawbacks of having them work on LTE networks, and overheating of the communications chip are common problems. The overheating causes the device to cut back on communications. Which pretty much sucks if you are trying to play an onlilne game with multiple users.
I have the Voyo i8 Max with two different carriers loaded. AT&T and T-Mobile respectively. It works. It does what I want it to do. However, the fact this has IMEI issues, is darn near almost impossible to root, and has a support system that sucks (zero communications and support from Voyo) should turn away users that are less daring.

I have confirmed that these files do in fact work. However: A word of caution. I had problems getting my device to boot after installing TWRP. It should be noted that you will have to unlock your boot loader (the Voyo Boot Loader Unlock program for other devices worked for mine too. The Fastboot commands are simple enough to run by hand get the job done). This will wipe your device and reboot.
Since Voyo is a Chinese company, the USA has restrictions on what the device has to employ for security. That includes a trusted, locked bootloader. Once you unlock it your device will display a warning that your device is no longer trusted, and give you a (long) 5 second delay before booting. This will also cause a number of Google services to see your device as not being in compliance.
Translation: You won't be able to watch Netflix on your device....but seriously - Who would want to?? Just load Showbox.apk on it, and Blokada (blokada.org) to kill the ads. (with regards to Blokada - do not load the Mother Of All Ads filter. It will crash blokada)
You must:
1. Install Super User app on your SD Card **BEFORE** you install TWRP. This is the program that cleans up some of the mess the TWRP install leaves behind.
2. Install TWRP via SP Tools. Be sure to backup your recovery.img file before you start (via SP Tools - learn how to use this app before you mess with it)
3. Clear Cache and Delvic cache.
4. Reboot back into Recovery mode
5. Install Super User app. This will clean up the device so you don't get stuck while booting.
At this point you can load and configure your device. Problem is you will not be able to enjoy anything other than GSM speeds (3G) until you fix your IMEI numbers.
***YOU WILL NEED TO DO THE FOLLOWING***
6. The IMEI numbers that ship with the Voyo i8 Max are invalid. Go online to site that has an IMEI Generator and generate a IMEI based on Samsung Galaxy LTE device of your choice. Record two of the numbers down (for SIM1 and SIM2). You'll need these in a moment.
Just be careful that the IMEI number you pick is not a duplicate of someone else's phone or you might get blocked.
7. Use the App Ghost Phone to set the new IMEI numbers. After you have set the numbers, shut your phone off for at least 10 minutes. This will let the network forget your device is 3G. After ten minutes turn your device on and if you have 4G LTE in your range, you will see the 4G icon and either another 4G icon, that means you only have 4G in your area for fastest speed, or 4G and LTE noted for LTE speeds.
After I done this I loaded Androoster and Root Booster to speed my device up even further. Bringing the look and feel of my phablet up to workstation level operations. Installed Viper for Android for added sound features and increase of volume (speaker is very weak on the tablet). Added VPN software, Anti-Virus, and Adaware for near ad free use. Although a lot of ads now are fed by the host server of the app and adware does not block those completely.
I have used my machine for almost two months now and really enjoy it. While the device does not have a GPS, Waze does a good job at ignoring this fact. Google Maps is useless on this device without a good Compass. There exists a kit project for a Bluetooth compass that is reported to work with this device.
Be careful of the type of Bluetooth headphones you choose. I have a mono-speaker Cobra trucker headset. It links well but nothing plays through it except phone calls. For generic mono with mic get a gaming bluetooth cheap headset. Or spend the money for Parrot Trucker headset. For Music, direct wire or find a good over-the-ear set that does Bluetooth very well. Found a $10 set on Wish that did the job so well I bought 2 (one for the Mrs.).
I'm still bugging Voyo for the I8 Max install firmware. The one they have is the i8 Plus SD dump. Doesn't work with our gear, but we can use it as a template for mods if necessary. Particularly with TWRP.
I hope this helps. Please click thanks and keep the good stuff rolling...
Need rom dump of I8 Max
Hello,
I'm new to the I8 Max and have had no joy with Voyo, who do not really seem interested in the foreign markets.
I am very interested in your post and I tried to flash the TWRP recovery but now my I8 Max will not work - it is bricked. I need a rom dump of the system from SP Flash Tool or WwR_MTK_2.40 so I can restore the entire firmware including bootloader. If anybody out there can help, it would be appreciated. MediaTek chips are very robust and as long as I can obtain the original firmware, I should be able to flash back to a working state using SP Flash tool. If someone has the correct firmware from the manufacturer, that would be a blessing. I appreciate any and all help offered.

Hi guys. I just boarded the Voyo i8 max ship so lets see what else we find out.
Mine does have GPS. Google maps locks a location with hardware gps only. I don't use google location services and never will (in any of my devices).
No compass still. That's fine with me and I knew beforehand.
I think voyo does have interest in the overseas market as the device has keyboard and manuals in some kind of English but is not interested in having real customer support (as spected from a cheap China device). No suprises for me there.
Screen is a little unresponsive to touch probably because of the plastic screen protector or because of the 'palm rejection' from the pressure pen compatibility. I won't take the screen protector until the pen arrives... if it ever arrives (bought from Geekbuying).
Scroll is sluggish due to kernel tweaks or something but you can 'fix' it.
Awesome solution to the choppy scrolling: SuperTouch app from the play store. I'm amazed this really worked and no root needed to boot! Honesty don't know how that shlt works but it does. Set it to 500 smooth level because I didn't pay for the full app but damn, I might do as well because the recommended smooth level for this device's specs is more than triple! But you need to pay a few bucks.
Audio suck balls. Mono and as loud as a wishper. It almost makes the job done. I will try to hack the butt out of this device in a couple of monts and try to install real speakers and getting stereo might be a challenge depending of how stupid voyo 'engieneers' were.
Cameras are a joke (as spected).
Screen is nice (probably half the reason we bought this device) but spect bleeeding and quirks. Mine has shadow eyeliner at the right edge.
Keyboard is not worth buying unless at a discount or you really, really need a screen cover. I know I do. Plus point being bluetooth, bad point having the worse back shortcut ever. Home is esc, back is that mac flowr thingy + tiny ass backspace and recent apps...kinda shortcut is alt+tab. Alt+F4 is impossible to do with this keyboard.
The experience of the typing. Its usable, better than touch typing the screen while sitting on the desktop, but way worse than using swype, swiftkey or google board gliding. Still a pain because its like typing in a remote control.
It attaches to the device pretty poorly. It preffers to attach to the front of the device.
Unlike the voyo i8 pro this one has google play working out of the box.
Wifi is poor at medium range and unusable at long range. 2.4ghz. Haven't testet 5ghz.
4G is unavailable to me as my carriers only use B2 and B4 which this tablet doesn't support (haven't put a SIM yet but will in a couple weeks).
The pen... buttons don't work according to everyone. I can't tell, mine was never shipped.
That's all so far. I have had this device for almost an hour.
My uncle recently gifted me a tablet he got from work that was about to be terminated. I found out that it was enrolled into their device management system (Knox) and I've been trying to release it. I ended up considering rooting the device or installing a new firmware, but I'm not quite sure if this would solve my problem. Can you guys give me suggestions on what to do to release my tablet and start using it?
PS. My uncle is the person in charge of the devices in his company, the person who used to be in charge never provided access to the knox device manager, and since newer devices are managed using a different tool and these tablets were all replaced they never tried to recover these.
Please help.
