Not sure where to post this to get help with this weird little problem... But recently I read about Facebook notifications being able to come through Chrome for Android, negating the need to have the app installed. However, when I visit the site in chrome I never get a pop up requesting permissions for notifications like some ppl are saying I should get. I go under site settings and Notifications are set to "Ask First" and toggling the switch just disables them completely. Even sites that I can go to on my PC and get a notifications request prompt will not give me a prompt when I visit them in chrome on my phone, so I don't think this is just a problem with FB.
I've tried clearing cache and data for Chrome, reinstalling it, using Chrome Beta instead and never get the notification access request or anything.
If someone has any ideas, I would love to be able to uninstall the Facebook apps and just getting notifications through Chrome. Thanks!
*edit* I should probably mention I am using a nexus 6 with Android M preview 3
same here
any update on this? were you able to find a fix?
I've contacted Facebook's support but couldn't get anything other than the auto-reply.
Please let me know if you've found anything.
lg v20, it's still an issue

Just opened my viewsonic Gtablet from Tigerdirect. Ran the OTA update and now running 3588, otherwise straight out of the box.
I am unable to log into any account using an app (mail, contacts, skype, tdameritrade, twitter apps). I am able to log in fine when I visit the website and login through the web.
Is there someplace I have to grant apps permissions to use the internet? Why can't I log in?
Thanks.
Just checking if anyone else had this problem. If not other responses, I'll let this thread die. Thanks for reading.

No. There is no special place to grant permissions to use the internet. Do you get any kind of error message? Force Close? Some indication of symptoms might help us diagnose the problem.
Get an app called Superuser. You will need to root the tab, as well. I think there's something like "oneclickroot" out there.
Honestly, grab a custom ROM, they all come with this standard.
Rooting shouldn't be necessary to make any of those apps work so I doubt that will help him.
Google login fails, 2 step verification is culprit
This may not solve your problem, but it knocked me for a loop for a whole evening with my new motorola defy this week.
You get a new android device, and everything looks so nice, but then you try to log in to your google account. Repeatedly. You keep getting an error that says the username or password are wrong, even though you can log in on your pc. OBVIOUSLY the password is fine, but it wont work on your new android device.
Well, if you turned on 2-part authentication then you have a problem. (If you have never heard of 2-part authentication then move on, you would have to have done this on purpose and it is way to painful to forget having done it.)
Android doesnt support 2-part authentication. So you have to generate a special password for your android device.
Start by logging in to gmail, or whatever google service you wish. Go to your account settings (the little gear-looking thing in the upper right.) Under Personal Settings, Security you'll see an entry called "Authorizing applications & sites". Go here and make an entry for your device, and it will generate a special password for that specific google application that doesnt happen to support 2-part authentication. Enter your super-secret password.
Suddenly the world is golden.
Probably not what the OPs problem was, but I wanted to put it SOMEWHERE.
grrrr....
Hi all,
I witnessed an issue regarding all android phones/versions between 2.1-4.2 without any solution, and I couldn't find any thread that talks about it in the proprietary+google search.
The issue: pic's get cropped, and I'm forced to click the "can't view properly? click here" link to the web page.
Here's a screeenshot:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B1-naiwBRz1aRlprYWNyUmNWMDA/edit?usp=sharing
The issue isn't for all mails, and there are some mail that can be viewed properly within the Gmail app itself.
I'm currently running the latest Gmail app as you can see with the top nav buttons.
Anyone else experiencing this issue ?
Go into : Menu -Settings - General settings - Auto -fit messages. Check it, and back out. The message should now be entirely seen in the screen. To Zoom in just tap the screen, or use the two finger spread method.
Tried that already...just forgot to mention.
any other ideas?
It's something a bit more complicated than a just a setting or wrong usage.
Other than that, the only other thing I can suggest is to unistall mail. Then reinstall.

Thanks again for your answer !
Well I've uninstalled the gmail several times when tried the leaked Gmail apps(the first one that supports swipe to archive+pinch to zoom, and obviously the last one who supports the new tabs interface).
I'll just mention it's not a specific problem but cross device and cross android+Gmail versions.
I tried every version of android/gmail combo(forwarding lots of mail to friends etc) but each time they all get the same problem.
The only thing I figured out who kinda gave me an alternative is use the stock mail client and not the gmail one, but in that case I'm loosing lots of the Gmail app functionality.
This is really something that just myself noticed? this is not one mail or a specific sender.
In the OP you mentioned that it does not happen on all your Gmail Email. Is it just from certain People / Companies ?
No, it's usually when I get promotion emails from my bank or some online shopping websites that uses big photos that are basically links.
Moreover, it's always from automated mails BUT I think that's only because I'm not receiving large photos in personal emails.
I would recheck settings. I know sometimes when I'm frustrated, I miss stuff.

Thanks again for your effort, I'm really certain that I haven't miss an option as every new app version that releases I'm scanning all of the features.
Here's a screen shot of my settings, I've highlighted the only possible option that can affect this, by my understanding:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B1-naiwBRz1aSU5od1hmOWtUT3M/edit?usp=sharing
BTW In case that I'm not clear enough with the issue I can forward(if you want to PM me with your mail) you one of those mails, I got lots of them. Of course if it's ok by you...
I'd love to hear any other ideas

It seems like anytime facebook opens a browser it crashes. What browser is everyone using that is stable? I'm getting tired or waiting for it to give me the hung message so I can close it. Bee trying Chrome and it has the same issue.
I don't have this issue and I have even opened pages from Facebook where it has a lot of images and ads with javascript and all.
K. Maybe it's a one off issue. I'm gunna backup and default it. See if that fixes it.
They do it on purpose so that you download the application so they can steal all your personal info on your smartphone. Browsers have security features built into them that do not allow them access to all your personal stuff. Their browser never crashes on regular browsers while using a PC. What you could do is just but a small device like an iPod and have nothing on there except maybe Instagram and Facebook. Then they have nothing to steal from you. Just use it to log on to Facebook or Instagram after and the heck with their permissions after.

Hello,
this thread is very specific because it's about a single app from a single bank that operates in Europe (N26).
I hope to find someone who has the same bank who can tell their experience.
So the issue is this: if I tap on any notification coming from this app, the notification disappears and the app does not open. For example if I have to confirm the desktop login through the app, I click on the notification and nothing happens, so I have to manually open the app in order to retrieve the popup message and take some action.
Needless to say, I tried to uninstall and reinstall the app on my S21 with no success, and I tried the same with three other phones in my family (Oppo, Huawei, Honor) and with these other phones there are no issues opening the notifications coming from this app, they correctly redirect to the app showing the required popup.
Anyone who can check if they have the same problem?
Or in general has anyone experienced the same problem with some other app? Any suggestions?
Thank you
Edit: I managed to find someone with that bank account and the same device. He tested for me and confirmed this behaviour. So it must be an S21 series problem
Try clearing the system cache... can't hurt.
Little Trick!
In order to receive more notifications than the 5 you set yourself, you have the option of loading the Blackberry Hub+ and the associated services from the PlayStore. You can manage many accounts there. works perfectlyfor me!

Isn't it just a notification 'watcher'? Those apps would still need to show notifications to appear in the Blackberry Hub+ inbox???

No, the hub accesses the accounts directly, not the system.
Is like your mail program that accesses your mail account.
Look on Screenshot, it is Not the Gmail icon at the top.
I can't see a way to configure WhatsApp for example - surely it requires me to approve access or hook it up somehow?
I must look and test it, the N is not my daily driver.
WA is at the time on iPhone.....
Most of the chat apps (WhatsApp, Line...) Have auto-start set by default (without being one of the 5 custom auto-start apps), and therefore notifications will show, and be 'captured' by the Blackberry Hub. But for example, I just added Google Chat, which DOESN'T have auto-start set, and it doesn't show in Blackberry Hub, because there are no notifications...
I'm not sure I like the solution or workaround of yet another app to deal with notifications that should be a standard solution, aka OS and base UI API, from Google AndroidOS itself.
I'm fully aware of BlackBerry and its history, yet how up to date is this BlackBerry Hub and what's the official word from BlackBerry update future updates? If nothing official this would be a temporary solution.
Is Oppo taking user feedback on all channels (aka official support forums, support email/phone, twitter, etc)? They already have a global 'Ambassador' program to help launch and sales of the Find N2 Flip.

CN ROM have limitations because Chinese app developers are garbage that stuffs apps full of offer notifications auto start and push for more monetization.. if u seen the china app market, it's 90% junk apps there that ask for every single permission possible to harvest ur data and sell openly to the big firms..
I tried this on my Find N2 (fold) no luck in getting other apps configured to receive notifications - the only one I could get to work was GMAIL..
Anyone else have any luck in getting other apps working using the Blackberry HUB such as Facebook etc?
Cheers FROSTY
