Can someone suggest a good app for exchange email for a google edition rom I tried gmail but I don't want to have gmail and exchange on this phone just exchange. I tried outlook and it just sucks now after so many updates. It's weird that the email apps made by the phone makers like Samsung and HTC are the good ones but can't find any in the play store that can compare to any one of them.

Please can anyone help, I have just changed from a HTC Desire to a Galaxy S2. I use Exchange server email, syncing Email,Contacts and calendar. Yesterday I put a new appiontment in the calendar and it never appeared on my PC Outlook account. After having a good look I noticed that in the calendar it has a G (for Google) next to the entry.
Please can anyone let me know how to stop anything to do with Contacts,Email and calendar going to Google.
I know I have to have a Google account for the Market, but that is the only reason I wish to use it, and even then I have google mail redirected automaticaly to my Outlook account.
Thanks
Sam
In fact things are worse than I thought, I turn off the Google Calendar and enter an appiontment it does not appear! However if I turn on the Google calendar it does!!!!
Please please let me know how to have only Exchnage as my primary source of Calendar!
When you create a task or an appointment on the phone, it should ask you where you want to create it - be sure to select your Exchange account.
Personally, in a similar position to you, I chose to pay for Touchdown for Exchange. There is a free trial so you'll get the chance to test it thoroughly. You have to keep some elements syncing with the default client in the background - contacts, if memory serves - but you can set Touchdown to be the default for calendar, email, tasks, etc, so it is a pretty seamless experience. I'd recommend it.
Thanks Gustopher, prblem sorted and will try Touchdown

Hi, I searched the forums but could not find any thread that dealt with this issue (for any phone), so I apologize if it's already been posted. And since I don't know if this is just an issue with the Rezound, I'm posting it here.
When I set up my Rezound I entered in my Google account info, and the phone automatically set up my Gmail account both in the Gmail app and in the stock HTC Sense Mail app. The Gmail app seems to work fine, but the stock email app doesn't sync the read status of new messages. If I get any emails in Gmail during the day, even if I log into it on my computer and read the messages, they still show up as unread in the sense mail app. Refreshing the app doesn't change anything. In the Gmail app, the messages will be marked as read if I have viewed them anywhere else.
I can't figure out how to fix this, and there doesn't seem to be a way to edit any server settings for the account, as sense has it registered as a Gmail account in the stock mail app, and not as a pop/imap account.
Anybody having this problem, or know how to fix it? I'm a new android user, and have only had this phone for a few days. Thanks.
Just take the gmail email out of the htc mail and just use the gmail email app to get your gmail mail.

I would like to avoid doing this if possible. I like having all my mail in one place. Any way to fix the stock app?
Email htc/usa and ask them. It only takes one second to push the gmail app, that's what I do. I understand you don't want to do that. Htc should be able to tell you how to change the settings.

I got an official reply from HTC:
Thank you for contacting HTC Technical support about the issue you are having with your Gmail account on your device. I do apologize that you have this issue with your device and I will gladly assist you with this today. We recommend you delete your Gmail account from the mail application on your device and use the Gmail application for your Gmail account on your device. The issue you are having it with the way the Gmail POP3 servers work with the Mail application on the device and there is not a setting to make it sync up to have the mail show up read until you up it on your device.

So it looks like, for whatever reason, the Gmail setting in the sense email app defaults to POP3, even though I have IMAP enabled in my gmail web settings. Unless anyone knows a way to fix this, I guess I will have to either set Gmail up as a regular IMAP account or just use the standalone application.
Thanks for the replies
I am caught between Exchange and the Android ecosystem. Work uses Exchange and Iphones, I sneak in Android stuff where I can (Desire HD, Nexus 7 and other stuff). All my private life is in google calendar. All my work is in Exchange calendars, which is shared and coordinated with lots of ppl.
Is it possible to make an app (if it doesn't exist) that SYNCS DIRECTLY between Exchange and Google?
What I have found so far:
- If you can install software on the PC where you have Outlook installed, you can use Google Sync. I can't do that
- I could possibly install Outlook on another PC and install google sync, and then have that PC running just for that. But comeon?
- If I use Exchange on the devices, I can see combined calendars, but it is basically just pooling two sources and not sync
- I can add online calendars to Outlook from google, but these can't be seen by others? Or what? Not AFAIK.
- I have tried a few apps for the phone, but none does the job.
- I could accept running two calendars all the time, but that is SO messy. Been trying that for a year now and it stinks.
I really hate this situation. Any ideas? I hope I found the right section.
What I basically need is Google sync for android, instead of merely PC.
I think the solution is in #2. If you don't do it yourself, there might be an online service which would do it, and probably for a fee.
I'm not aware of any application which would solve your problem.
I've ended up keeping all my personal stuff in Google and all my work stuff in Exchange. I have none of my personal stuff on my work PC.
On my phone I use email with my Exchange account and Gmail with my Google account.
I sync calendar, email, and contacts for both account. Calendar shows both accounts and People shows all my contacts.
I have no duplicates (no work contacts in Google or personal contacts in Exchange).
This way I have a unified calendar and contacts yet clean separation of work and personal.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. It seems there is no solution.

Bill,
As I write initially, that is what I already do.
I am not happy with this setup. I work long hours and travel a lot - and my colleauges benefit from seeing my private bookings, when trying to book all day events, meetings that require lots of travel, evening meetings etc. Everyone here has everything in Exchange and I am the only one who doesn't offer this solution. Well I guess the answer is "meh"

It sounds as though you would be better off only using Exchange for appointments and forget about Google Calendar.

Hello guys!
I am a big android fan and my old phone was the LG nexus 4.
I got now the samsung galaxy s3 from my work place so I won't be using
the nexus anymore.
Because it's a phone from work I'll need to configure two emails:
work email and my gmail.
In the nexus I had only one email address (gmail) and everything was synchronized to there ...
contacts, google play and much more.
I want in the new galaxy s3 devise to have the gmail account as primary but to configure also the work email:
to have contacts from gmail and the work contacts all together under my phone contacts
and to have seperation .. if I add a contact I want it to be synced only to my gmail contacts for instance.
so on the one hand, I want to have both mails and functionality on the same phone
but on the other hand a way that I can seperate between the two.
Thanks alot you guys!
It should have another E-Mail app installed.
You can use this or download another E-Mail app if you don't like the stock app.
Then you should be able to configure your work mail in this app, shouldn't be very hard.
I don't think you can also synchronize your work contacts. Maybe if you use Exchange, I'm not sure.
But you could just add your work contacts to your Gmail contacts and add them to a Work contact group.

thanks for the quick response,
any mail app recommended?
Also,
How do I add my work contacts to my gmail contacts without doing so one by one?
(is there some kind of export?)
thanks!
I'm on a custom ROM and using the stock Android mail app, but K-9 Mail is very good mail app.
I think, you should be able to import your work contacts.
However, I don't exactly know how you would do that. But I'm sure, you'll find an answer with Google.
thanks alot m8
I will try and update
Coming from Xperia, this is my first LG phone.
Can I sync ALL emails in email app? It only sync for 2 months (max) in LG email app.
With Xperia it allows me to sync my ALL emails.
Screen shot of LG email app setting below, no option for sync ALL emails.
Any suggestions or app to get this option?
Thanks ?

Your question is sort of confusing. I have several email apps and different ones have different sync options. In one email app, I have over 5,000 emails synced for one account. In another email app, I have over 23,000 emails synced for another email account. It's easier for me to keep track by having different apps for each email account.
Is there a reason you want the LG email app? I don't even use that. Use what you want. Download another email app from Google Play. Try several, if you wish. This is Android, not iPhone. You can use whatever apps you want.
Is it just one email account you are worried about or several? For my work account, I only want one month to sync because I have a work laptop also. So on that app, I set one month for my phone. If I need to go back further than that, I use my laptop. For my personal email accounts, I have all to sync for the most part. But I use several different email apps.
