Do I just switch back the CID, and install the OTA normally (after relocking ofc?) What order would I need to do it in?
Id like to have a back up of the stock WIND ICS for warranty purposes

Are you super cid? If so, nope, you'll have to install the wind GB ROM via fastboot since it's an exe file, then update via the ota file using the ota file method in the bible, if you get a cid error, there's a note at the bottom to fix it.

Yes I switched CID to Tmo's to install the ICS OTA they leaked a while ago. I'm on NRGZ ICS release right now

Just super cid instead of changing to one specific carrier's cid, saves you having to change it. You'll have to be on wind GB to use the OTA file though. So downgrade then upgrade back to wind ICS.

Once you're s-off, you can upgrade and downgrade as you please, I've done it multiple times, how do you think I'm on Telus stock ICS when I have a T-Mobile device? You just have to be s-off with an unlocked bootloader, s-on will brick your device, s-off opens up the device completely mounting everything as rewritable, just don't flash a ruu from another device other than the stock amaze ruus and don't flash from another carrier if you're not super cid. Simple as that.

Once you're super cid it shouldn't matter, but if it gives an error, just change it back. HBoot should remain the same, but some devices tend to let the ruu change them, but that shouldn't matter either.

Nada, once you don't do something stupid like a battery pull while the exe file is restoring you to stock GB.
And don't worry about the questions, ask all you want.
hello all,
I am trying to bring my phone back to stock, I already relocked with bootloader with fastboot.
and when I ran the ATT RUU (RUU_M7_UL_JB_50_Cingular_US_1.26.502.12_Radio_4A.14.3250.13_10.33.1150.01_release_318450_signed_2.exe)
it came back with an error saying "ERROR [132]: SIGNATURE ERROR"
p.s. I was running cyangen mod 10.1 when trying all this....how do i fix this?
UPDATE: now when I try to reboot the system it goes straight to the bootloader, it wont even boot into an OS.
are you s-off?

If you came from a CM variant you might want to re flash what you had. If you want to flash ruu you need to relock bootloader. It took two times for my One to take the update. FYI you will NOT have root with ruu. BTW most US roms are built on that base. If you just want a newer base the international roms like trick droid ( what i am running ), ARHD and insert coin are on the newest builds with jelly bean 4.2.2. just sayin'

Yes it sounds funny. But there alot of developers building international built completly stock roms for us at&t users
there might be. without s-off you can only install the ruu that is the exact same firmware version your phone came with i believe and yes sometimes it takes a few times to get it to finish without errors
try downloading the RUU again. There's Only ONE RUU for AT&T. Also if you unlock the bootloader again your phone will boot. With a locked bootloader and S-ON, only a fully stock ROM will boot.
okey dokey...i will try again in a bit (my phone isn't charged to 30%)

hmm, that's what I thought on the .12.....
I just noticed the RUU is getting stuck at the "sending" part to my phone, it seems like it isn't even getting to send the RUU to my phone....any idea about this?
i have heard a lot that people get errors a few times then it just works all the sudden. so try a few more times you dont need to keep redownloading it everytime just try flashing. if that doesnt work do what i said before
I've already unlocked bootloader and rooted device, following which I realized that there is no s-off option for me on the current hboot I have (1.44 after May) and not realizing that s-off is available for the latest AT&T release with 4.3. This is my second HTC device but it is my first go at s-off. I've been doing a lot of research but keep hitting dead ends it seems. Ideally, I would like to flash back to stock recovery and unroot by flashing stock 1.26.502.15 RUU (which is what I am currently on) so I can get OTA then use rumrunner to obtain s-off. I've also looked into downgrading/upgrading the current software number from 1.26.502.15 to 1.26.502.12/3.17.502.3 so I can use revone/rumrunner but I can't confirm whether or not I can flash RUU without being s-off'ed. If anyone can provide any advise I would greatly appreciate it. I'm also not sure if I'm using the terminologies correctly or if this is even posted in the right section.. Thanks in advance!
If you are currently on .12 firmware then you should still have 1.44 HBoot. If so, all you need is REVONE to S-Off. Doing anything else will make it even more of a chore. I believe if you update after then it is S-On again unless you flash one of the other ROM's that are available. You can also run the current RUU from the HTC website to give you the 4.3 update, but you will have 1.55, thus having to use Rumrunner. To run the current RUU, I think you have to relock it too, and unlock it again, at least I did with AIO. You can run any RUU without S-Off that is compatible with ATT. If you want the Brightstar GPE RUU, then yes, you must have S-Off, and change the CID to match that version, and etc for other versions.

I'm on .15 right now but didn't know if I could update to HTC website 4.3 because I am currently unlocked and rooted and do not have s-off. When I relocked bootloader and tried OTA I had to reboot and it just kept rebooting to TWRP and would not update successfully. So I didn't think the manual update would work?
The manual update will work, but it will WIPE everything. Been there done that, not a big deal though. Went through it, re-unlocked, re-flashed CWM, and that was that. I was going to do S-Off to get the GPE RUU, but heck, with the ATT Remove Bloat script, don't see the need anymore. Got 4.3 running as smooth as it can be, no ATT bloat, and GREAT battery life.
So even though I do NOT have S-off, I can still use the HTC released update to flash onto my phone with the current modifications that I've made already (Unlock and root on JB 4.1.2, software 1.26.502.15, hboot 1.44)? I was under the impression that with S-ON you cannot flash RUU, is that not correct? In the current state, I have to just re-lock bootloader and I can install the official HTC released update? And after which all my data will be wiped, including the custom recovery (TWRP) and root, all of this will be gone? (which is fine) I just have been researching and see that bricking the device is more likely to happen if the device is S-ON and you attempt to flash.
Rumrummer actually has a version available for 1.26.502.15, I used it on Sunday successfully to gain s-off with my mom's phone.

With S-ON
As far as i have read, you can:
Update to a newer firmware. (but i don't really know if you can flash another htc one rom model, eg. flash an m7 rom into a m7att phone)
Reflash the same stock firmware via recovery (http://www.htc1guru.com/downloads)
YOU CAN NOT DOWNGRADE.
Install CWM Recovery or TWRP Recovery.
Root.

2. Unlock bootloader and flash a cook rom with sense 5

You can try this but I cannot guarantee that this will work. but it has worked for me. first off go to about-software update, and their on the top right corner is a settings button where it says update over wifi connection and make sure that this box is checked. then take out the sim and then go to settings-mobile data-preferred network and change from gsm/umts to cdma/lte. now make sure that your phone is connected to a wifi connection. you will get a message saying no cdma connection was found. just hit okay and ignore it. then go to settings- apps- all- and find google services framework and then hit clear data then force stop. now go to settings- software update- check new. do NOT go to settings-about-software update-check new to check for updates because it did not work for me and kept telling me that their was no update. I do not know why but if its confusing to understand then make this note- if the check new option is under status then you are in the right place.

Same thing for me, then I read it says that in order to use this RUU, you must revert back to the stock 1.15 hboot and 1.15 Stock Recovery but when I use the RUU to get back I also get the IMAGE ERROR: 158.
If the bootloader is locked, htc stock recovery is installed, and phone is not rooted but it is s-off, will the phone function normally? Like receive Ota from htc and behave like a brand new out of the box unmodified htc one m8? Planning on selling it so I want to know.

Shouldnt be an issue as long as completely stock rom/recovery
If any system files were altered with root, they need to be restored to stock to get OTA. RUU (available for AT&T version) back to stock is probably the best way to get it close to stock as possible.
Also, you need to tell the buyer the phone is s-off, as selling an s-off phone to an unsuspecting buyer is not a good idea (also that it was bootloader unlocked, even if returned to LOCKED).

Doesn't matter if the phone is rooted or not, the RUU will still run.
Bootloader needs to be locked or relocked for the RUU to run, unless you are s-off (RUU will not run with bootloader unlocked).
Of course, the RUU also needs to be the right carrier version (CID), and you can't "downgrade" or run a former RUU version than is on the phone (these restrictions are also bypassed by s-off).
Those are basically the only restrictions on running RUU.
There have been some isolated incidents on other devices where mods caused issues with RUU; so this may be what you have read. For instance, on the One X (EVITA) the Jellybean RUU bricked the device if SuperCID was present and S-on. But this was a bug, and not typical of how RUU works (basically a rare exception to the rule). I haven't heard of any such thing on the M8.
Or you may be thinking of OTA, which is a completely different case. For OTA, stock recovery needs to be present, and if any system files were altered by root, OTA will not install (although presence of root itself will not cause it to fail). AFAIK from reports here, OTA will install whether the bootloader is locked or not.

RUU is here, near the bottom of the page, see "Manual system update instructions": http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-m8-att/news/
The link gives step-by-step instructions, but RUU is just a .exe program (PC required) you run with the phone connected, the application will pretty much walk you through after that.
Although it was reported by several users last week, the file would not download to completion. One XDA user contacted HTC, who said they would look into it, so hopefully the issue has been fixed. I believe another XDA user posted the file for download, if you search around (if the official download is still broken).
Or you can also try the bootable RUU posted here, which does not require PC: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-htc-one-m8/general/att-1-58-501-1-bootable-ruu-hboot-t2818556
