From the reddit AMA:
“We added Qi wireless charging starting with N4 because plugging in USB micro B was such a hassle! (Which way is up!?) With this year’s Nexii, we support USB Type-C which has a reversible connector so there’s no more guessing. AND it charges incredibly swiftly: 1% to 100% in 97 mins on the 6P for example (the first ~45 mins of charging is especially fast). Meanwhile, wireless charging adds z (thickness). So, ease of plugging in + fast charging + optimizing for thinness made us double down on Type-C instead of wireless!”
hope the real reviews on performance, multitasking, day to day usage and camera starts coming in. the anticipation is killing me! (most importantly, whether it overheats and stuff haha)

According to google, Type C is the real killer of wireless charging.

i'm choosing the first choice.

Did anyone else notice in this preview, there is a closeup picture of the back of the 6P, which seems like there is a visible scratch and a few dark smudges close to the Fingerprint sensor... I sure hope it's my imagination and this thing is more resistant to scratches...

Why there is not a single Nexus 6p video on youtube like with other phones? WHATS GOING ON? i thought this phone was ready for order at launch? like 10 days passed already?
To me, having a Tylt wireless charger is almost as good as having my old Galaxy with ZeroLemon 7500 mAh battery. My phone has been dead in the morning, sat on my desk at work all day while researching, YouTubeing, WiFi tethering etc and leaves work daily at 100%.
In all honesty I'm hoping that the 6P is significantly better than the N6 (which is awesome) and someone creates a wireless charging pad that plugs into this USB C crap so I don't have to get more cables.
P.S. USB C is not a replacement for wireless charging and giving it to us without USB 3.+ is a slap in the face regardless of how unnecessary it may be. Should have just kept the regular port.

Think of it this way now.... your phone is dead in the morning so you throw it on the charger while you eat breakfast and you are good for the day. Or worst case you throw it on the charger again at lunch for 10-15 minutes. You arent confined to using it on the wireless charger (that must be awkward?)

Not awkward at all. In fact I can use the phone while it's charging, eating breakfast and working and every time I have to move I just pick it up and go vs having to fiddle with the plug. Not for nothing I have quick charging in the car so it definitely helps, but when you work 10-12 hour shifts it's just so convenient and requires no thought to charge wirelessly.
I wrote that while charging wirelessly BTW

Up until this morning I had considered myself one of the lucky prime owners that had no problems with their device. The My prime has not suffered any of the defects I have seen other users having issues with, no screen bleed, great wifi, only a little issue with gps, and I purchased the unit from the one extra stock that the gamestop in SF received on the day they're delivered. Very happy overall with my firs tablet.... Until this morning..
Last night with my battery hovering around 15% I plugged into to charge, and got the wonderful little sound letting me know that night the morning I would have another full charge to waste f'in about.. When I woke up at 4 my prime was at 71% and status said not charging..... Strange I thought, and maybe a fuse had blown? No.... Every outlet in my house produces the same result.... No power getting to the prime
It was charged through a protected outlet in my server cabinet, so I know the power was clean and surge free.... Has anyone out there experienced anything like this before? I am thinking now that I will have RMA the unit because the charge circuits somehow failed.. I have no provision test another power supply for charging purposes and do nothing I have even seen extras available yet.. When I get to work I will verify that I still have connectivity to my pc and see what happens.
Please I would like some constructive thoughts on this matter.... I do not want to start another thread that catalyzes everyoneone into a fit of prime bashing or or telling me why I should returnitand buy a new device.... I am lookingfor hopefully a resolution or similar experience that can help me out before I make the decision to RMA for a new unit .... Damn and I only had a few days left to waitfor ICS
If it helps I am on the latest update 33, and rooted with jcase and viperboys (thanks guys, awesome work) tool....

Your charger is overheating. Did the same thing with mine, an hour in the freezer worked like a charm. Remember to put it in a bag though.
There is a temperature trip circuit in the charger, which evidently kills charging if the charger passes a temp threshold. This was apparently a very prevalent problem on the tf101, and has been known to carry over to the TF201 occasionally. I have not experienced it, but i have seen this 'fix' used successfully.
Definitely sounds worth a try then... I can try this fix when I get to work and report back... Is this something I should expect on a regular basis? I Can do it for a while until I can source a new charger, that I do not mind... At this point anything that keeps this thing in my hand and up and running is good news in my book. Thanks for the suggestion guys!

Please keep us posted. One of the first things I noticed when I got my Prime was how damn hot the charger got when charging. You can literally burn yourself if you squeeze it.
The charger is a piece of ****. Instable, overheating, buzzing, the one on my TF died a long time ago.
If it doesn't work anymore, find yourself a new one (that provide 12v output and not the regular 5v) with a USB port, it cost something like 10$ and you won't risk to set your house on fire each time you charge your TFP.

Well its not that strange.....I used to do this with clicking Hard Drives after they over heat. This would allow you at least an hour to access your files to recover them. Its a long known data recovery secret. ;-)

I noticed this as well... seemed a bit much for my like but as everything seemed to working ok I left it alone. I am at work now and chager has been in the feezer for approx 20 min... gonna leave it till the hour mark and I will update as to the progress of this very strange yet intresting adventure....
Alright... so my update on the problem.... Put the charger in the freezer for a good couple of hours to see if it could be reset... after letting come back to room temp, I plugged it in and nothing.... charger is blown. Had to go to office depot to get a new one, but the good news is that it was not the prime itself! Thanks for the ideas everyone!
Have anyone been able to charge their Prime from their PC like it says you can do in the manual.
I tried and the Prime didn't show any indication that it was being charged, in fact it still said to connect it to a charger.

Op,
I have been watching people complain about this, if you plan to throw the charger away could I get you to toss it into an envelope and send it to me, I want to do some research on it to see if I can figure out why it is burning out.
Does anyone have a link to a cheap, compatible charger? I guess the voltage can vary as long as it's not too low, but the current should match that of the original charger, from what I understand.

Flyingwolf, being an engineer myself I was very curious about doing a little investigation of my own... But I only have a multimeter. I would hope this should be enough to get a general idea of what's going on. If you would like I would love collaborate with you on this and see if we can figure out what is going on. If I get to deep over my head (I am a mechanical engineer not electrical after all ) I would have no problem at all sending it along! Let me know and we can go from there. Was planning on cracking it open this weekend.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 through a rift in time and space....
Far from being an engineer myself, however my love of all things electronic and my hobby of RC has forced me to learn as much as I can, I have become rather proficient lol.
Me personally I would just being doing some simple probe tests, figuring out if there was an issue with manufacturing (cold solder joint, too tight wire that pulls with heat expansion etc).
I am sure as a mechanical engineer you should have no problem figuring it out.

I paid 30 at office Depot for an OEM unit... I would recommend you always use the stock system to charge as it may have integrated circuitry to actually talk back and for to the prime for charging to correct levels. Further investigation as noted in my last post should hint at this so stay tuned. I will note that they keep the chargers in the back at my local store and when I called had no idea what I ws taking about. I had to give them the item number from online before they could find it... So I would check availability online and find a store that has them in stock before you go on a wander to find one. Hope that helps

Did you get the LG one? If so, supposedly the thing beeps super loudly every time the charger turns on according to the Amazon.com reviews.
You are supposed to be able to take it apart and remove the speaker from the board.
I just ordered 2 for $35 ea from there... hoping for the best.

Great. I'm curious if the beep happens every time the charger kicks on (I believe it shuts off automatically when the phone is fully charged) or if it's just one "beep" when the phone is set down on it.
Either way, I'll probably be disconnecting the speaker since I will use one bedside (don't want to wake the sig other) and one at work and don't want to bother my coworkers either.

i was on the fence yesterday about getting it, and picked it up today and i am so glad i did. i especially like how firm of a grip it has. i still think i may pick up the energizer one from amazon so i can have one at home and one at the office
I'm thinking of picking up the LG pad (and ripping the speaker out) to put on my desk. I can't think of anything more convenient that just putting the phone down and it charging up. I'll probably continue to use a charger at night for now. I'm not really crazy about the LG pad, and you know there'll be more options out there soon. I'd rather hold off and get one that's maybe more stylish, or slimmer (and no beep!) before I invest in a second pad.
I'd like to see a USB powered pad if possible, so I could toss it in my bag and take it to work with me (no free outlets at my desk so I currently charge my phone through the USB port).
I just ordered the nokia charger from verizons website, it is compatible with DNA.
Long Term Use
I have read that wireless charging causes the battery to get warmer than corded charging. I wonder since this is a non-replaceable battery will that effect the overall life of the battery. Is anyone else worried about long term use of a charging pad. I love the idea but wonder if it will cause issues later on.

Who has this and how does it work with the DNA? I read on Amazon that it has a really loud beep when you place it down or pick it up, or if it reaches full charge, etc. Another reviewer said they simply opened it up and pulled out the speaker.

Oddly enough if the phone was on vibrate I don't remember it beeping.

I have it. It only beeps when you first lay the phone on the pad. Love the convenience and mine is sitting on my nightstand, so the initial beep doesn't bother me since I'm obviously awake (I hope) when I place it on the pad.
I have it as well. It makes a loud beep when you put the phone down, and will beep if the phone isn't correctly placed. I have it on my bed stand and I have never been woken up by it beeping when it fully charges.
I just ordered one on amazon because they are 39+shipping rather than 79+shipping...
Honestly, this phone is perfect in every single way besides sense isn't my favorite Rom and the battery life. I have to charge it once during the day in addition to charging it overnight. Which is why I ordered this charging pad so I can just set it on that when I'm at home doing work or what have you.

Typical of wireless charging. It charges no faster than USB.
I think the heat may come from the wireless charging coil.
I ordered one last week for $34 shipped from Amazon. Got it Friday. Works like a charm and don't think it's that loud either
Not an iPhone.....
My concern is that the heat will hurt the life of the device.
Unfortunately the heat comes with the territory.
LG Charging Pad
I bought this charger and have noticed a problem that seems like it could be a defect. When I place the phone on the pad it beeps (no big deal). After a while when the phone gets to a full charge the phone beeps (no big deal). What I don't like is that the phone does not actually ever get to a "full" charge. On the pad I have, it seem to only get to about 99 percent and then stop charging only to start again after a few seconds. Almost every time the charging stops and starts, the screen lights up and whenever the charging kicks on again it does the glorious beep. I read this from one other person on a forum so I hope this is just a defective unit. Can anyone tell me if when using this charger, your phone charge light ever turns green? When using this pad, my phone's charge light never turns green and I'm concerned that by using this my phone is getting a lot of extra wear and tear from the on/off of screen and charging. I already contacted the vendor and I think I'm going to do an exchange. If the second one has this behavior, i'm probably just going to scrap it for the Nokia even though they're more expensive. It would seem you get what you pay for I guess and i'd rather not take a chance...

Was your phone hot or just the charger? I'm curiuos to as to what the long term affect is going to be but its a risk I'm willing to take for the convience of wireless charging. I'm still waiting to see if it will charge through an Otterbox.

For me, its just the phone.
If I use a wireless charging pad at my office, is it going to hurt the battery in any way to be constantly picking up the phone and putting it back down on the charging pad, i.e. constant short charging periods? Will it effect long term battery life or possible just throw off the calibration?

I just started a new thread in Q/A on this very question.
---------- Post added at 10:48 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:46 AM ----------
I ordered the Nokia charger from Verizon Online directly. I have a 35% discount so it was $35ish shipped. Most should have a Verizon discount so check that before ordering only from Amazon.
I'd like to start this off with an idea I had. We're all familiar with qi wireless chargers as well as external USB backup packs. What if we were able to combine the two. Take a good 3000+ mah chargable pack and slap a qi charge inducer on it so we can just click it onto the back of the device instead of tethering via USB cable. I'm sure this can be done. Ideally a manufacturer would have already put this into production, but I can't find anything. If anyone has or knows of some cheap small profile devices that could be modified I'm all ears. I will likely whip up a concept device and post pics soon.

An even better idea would be to get a Mophie Juice Pack like iPhone has. Its a case/battery/charger in one. My brother has one and never complains about it, only brags how good it is. Come on Mophie, give us a Juice Pack!!!!
I agree I would try one on this phone

personally I think someone should build a battery/qi charger into a holster, that way whenever your phone is on your hip its charging. I personally don't use a holster/clip but im sure the people who do would really like that idea

I think that is a good idea, but my concerns would be the constant charging I would think would be bad for the battery right? Also I think the phone would get pretty warm with all the charging.
The mophie juice pack has a button that you press to turn it on so it only charges when you want it to

Hey guys,
I went out on a limb and bought the OWL car charger+dock for my DNA.
There is a bunch of discussion on the item here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2029734 along with plenty of pictures.
I wanted to let you guys know some specifics for the DNA:
1. The phone fits perfectly into the clip. I don't have any cases, so I can't test that, but naked the phone fits like a glove and is very secure, even upside down.
2. Even the "second generation" of charger still does not put out enough juice for the DNA, even with the phone at idle.
I have emailed Moon and will update this thread when I hear back from him. I am thinking the problem might have something to do with the controller inside the charger. It switches to red (charging) momentarily when the phone is inserted, but then switches back to green (full).

Update 1: Moon has emailed back already to assure me that if the charger doesn't work, he will do what it takes to make it right.
I am hoping we can figure out a way to make the phone work in the charger, since I love the design and the convenience of Qi...
awesome! I have been wondering if it works for our phone since I saw the post you linked above about a week ago. I emailed moon about it, but he was unsure. I'm glad that someone confirmed what I have been wondering. Thanks again
I'm also looking forward to more info on this. Going through the website I couldn't quite follow if it worked or not.
Update 2:
The Qi charging coil built into the CarPad does work to charge the HTC DNA, unfortunately the coil is positioned about 0.5" too low for the phone.
Moon is working on an adjustment to the circuit board to re-position the charging coil.
Tonight I am going to take a look at temperatures during charging. With the screen turned on the battery did get 3-4°C warmer than normal on the Nokia Qi charger, but it was a pretty short charge. I am going to try leaving the screen turned on and the phone charging on the CarPad tonight for a couple of hours to see the charge rate and temperature change.
Other news:
There does not seem to be any scuffing, scratching, or denting of the phone's finish caused by inserting and removing from the clip. I had worried that the spring arms on the side might hurt the matte finish on the back of the phone, but so far I don't see any changes.
Thanks guys,
Ben
thanks for the update, keep us posted. in car qi charging is very interesting.

Thanks, I got a reply from Moon that he thinks the "autopad" will be the option for the DNA and he'll let me know when it is available. I will post info here if I hear back.

Update 3:
Good news tonight. First, I've done a temperature test using the phone at room temperature. With navigation, LTE, and the screen constantly on the CarPad provides moderage charge (+200mAh) and does not cause excessively high heat (under 45°C). This is comparable with the 43°C I saw with the Nokia Qi charger while watching a Netflix Stream.
With the screen off the temperature is also pretty normal (35°C) so I think the coil is good.
Moon at Owl Chargers tells me that he may add a little to the coil to make it more consistent on the charging, and he is going to create a new PCB that has the coil positioned 1/2" higher so that it will line up properly with the DNA.
It sounds like this change could happen pretty quickly, but I will let you know when I have the test board in hand.
Thanks guys,
Ben
Please keep the updates coming, thanks!
Hey everyone, sorry for a few days of delay.
I talked to Moon this morning and he thinks they should have the test board created by the beginning of next week. He is moving the charging coil up to line up better with both the DNA and the Galaxy S3, and he is upgrading to a bigger charging coil to presumably give better charging efficiency.
I have removed the standard charging coil from the phone holding base and have been using it as a standard desktop charger for the last few days (with the Owl-Pad supplied AC Adapter). It has been working well for that as long as I position the phone properly, so with any luck the new board should fix the problem in the car mount.
I will let you guys know when the new part ships, and will be sure to take pictures of the new versus old board.
Thanks,
Ben
Thanks for the updates.
Sudo make me a sandwich.
Good news from Moon at OWL Pad today, the new circuit board is complete, his testing looks good, and he is shipping it out to me to test on the DNA tomorrow.
I will update everyone here with pictures once I have the new board and have been able to try it out, but Moon posted some initial tests on the Galaxy S3 and Note 2 which both charge at the higher position. Those tests looked good so I have to think it will work on the DNA as well.
Thanks all,
Ben
(You can see my pictures and charging screenshots on the OwlPad site)

AWESOME! thanks again. for the final product, he will make a new charger right? we wont have to buy the old one and replace the circuit board i hope.
thanks again.

I'm not sure how he would do that. I'm sure he has a bunch of the units already boxed up from the last production run. It might be that he has to ship the old unit and the new board separate. Honestly, changing the board was incredibly easy. There are four screws and then the old board just lifts out and the new one drops in.
When the new one comes in I had planned on putting up pictures showing how to remove the old one and install the new one.

I think I'd love to get both boards since then I'd be prepared if my next phone requires the "other" position.

Looks like the set is for sale for the DNA on the web page now. Still sounds like he's waiting for test results but you go through with an order now if you want.
Hey Guys,
I got the unit in the mail when I got home from work (30 minutes ago).
So far everything looks GREAT!
I am running temperature and charging tests now, but the new coil position looks perfect, and I'm getting as much or possibly more current out of the OWL charger than I was getting out of the Nokia.
Tonight I should have pictures and screen shots available from my early tests, but I have to say that everything looks great so far.
I also want to add that the level of customer service and responsiveness from Moon at OWL charging was incredible. If I got service half as good from the companies I do business with in the US I would be amazed, and these folks are having to deal with me from the other side of the world. I have absolutely no ties with their company, and hadn't even spoken to them to ask if the charger worked for my phone before I ordered, but they went above and beyond any expectations in getting this charger working.
Once I have a few hours charging I can fill in the remaining details (temperatures, approximate charge time, etc), but right now I would say the newest version is a huge success!

I forgot to mention, the +300 mah charging rate was with the screen locked on, LTE, GPS, Navigation, and Pandora all running.
