Buying advice- consumer cellular version - Huawei Ascend Mate 2

I have seen a lot of older threads and posts about the Consumer Cellular version of the Ham2 but have not found exactly what I'm looking for... A little advice on this version.
First of all the price is right for me out his phone because I can pay the $225 in installments. The problem I'm having is :
1. I know I've seen that it is possible to upgrade the firmware and update to Lollipop but have seen varying degrees of success. This is a must for me since I'm running cm11 on my end of life Samsung and really don't want to run jellybean. Is this fairly full proof to upgrade now?
2. Is it really worth it to have this phone now that it is nearly 2 years old? I like the bigger screen in theory compared to my smaller one now. Any experiences with that aspect? Should I keep looking?
Thanks for any advice you have.

Its 100% success rate. You just have to follow the conversion thread. Once you get the OEM. Zip fle flashed you flash a stock 148 ROM then b322. At that point you can run that stock Lollipop ROM or flash a custom ROM. Its not a killer phone. It has a large screen. It isn't a high res screen. Low DPI. But o don't mind it. It has the third longest battery life of any phone. So that is nice. It does use an aging chipset. If you ateny a heavy gamer you will be fine. I am replacing mine with the new Moto Pure phone. Little more money but what the heck. Average user this is a good investment.

Best bang for the buck in my opinion.
But,hey who asked me.

I can't speak to how easy the conversion is because I don't have a CC but there are several folks who have done it so it is doable.
I still love this phone. Use it as my DD with CM. One of my fave phones, ever. Great big screen and battery is awesome.

The only thing I'm concerned about is the low pixel density. I'm considering replacing my nook hd± and my old phone with this larger phone. I read a lot...magazines, books, online news, etc. My nook has higher density, my 4.5 inch Samsung lower. Does the screen bother you ( or anyone else out there) when you zoom in on text or pics?

longest,
I there a reason you want to buy the CC version of this phone? Are you going to use it on CC.?
Can the non-CC regular version be used on CC?

Actually I probably will try CC but almost any gsm phone will work as long as it has the right Lte bands, etc. The reason for CC purchase is that I can pay in installments for as cheap a price as I've seen. Other non CC cost as much or more

They are the same anyway. Same chipset.... And once flashed same firmware. CC is anywhere from 50-100$ cheaper. So wise choice.

Not really! Non-CC version black or white brand new for $200 @ www.breedproducts.com shipped .... I got mine there - came 2nd day USPS fast.

CC regularly has CC on sale for 179 at sears. In stoe pickup or delivery.

@Moody66 Let me know the next time you see that, I have not seen that deal here, but could just miss it I check regularly.
TIA

Will do. They only do the white ones for that price. No idea why.

Minimal savings after taxes vs $200 shipped and you have to deal with unCCing it.

Hardly. One... You have to modify a non cc to flash it as well. Two. He gets to make payments through CC.

BTW. Since you have CC and are buying from them you can add insurance for the phone for like 5 bucks... Full coverage. Can't beat that.

I don't mind the conversion work, I'll save a buck where I can. Like Moody said you need to do 80% of it anyway.
My sears is down the street in DE so Tax Free!
My biggest complaint is that the unlocking has gone up from 2.49 to 5.99. LOL

Bookmark CCs eBay page. They also put them on sale there once a month or so. Direct from CC so no chance you get ripped off.

Thanks to all for the advice. I still am doubtful with the screen resolution. I can't find one locally for a hands on. Is there pixelation when zooming text on Web sites, reading books, etc?

Many shops are sending their stock back to HP to be sold at hp.com. That's why they are only temporarily out of stock. You can have them e-mail you when they are back in stock.
http://www.erwincomputers.com/fb454utaba.html
Ordered one from Erwin Comp. Make sure you guys use Google Checkout just in case. They seem fairly reputable from what I read on reviews online. Let's hope they don't cancel my order like B&N did. I'm only buying just one, not in it for the resales.
Just now ordered 1 from erwincomputers.com It says item "In-stock". Hope its true and goes through. I also used the google checkout since I am not familiar with this website.
Their online ratings are horrible.
That being said....we shall see.
I used Google Checkout AND my American Express....just in case.
AmEx is awesome at disputes should Erwin decide to hose me.
I was gonna get another one from Erwin comp but after reading the reviews changed my mind. Just gonna wait until Wednesday.
Might want to check your local Best Buy stores today or at least find out when their trucks come. From what I've been told, they are gonna have them. Don't know if they will have a limit or not. Good luck!!!

I thought all inventories were going back to HP's warehouses....
For 100 bucks...or even 149, these make nice coffee table tablets for the net, music and browsing. I don't need 100K apps...but for 100 bucks, IMO, these are a better offering than the bottom of the line, 1.6 or 2.2 android cheapo tablets.
Samsung just lost a lawsuit over in Europe. There's a chance they might be stocking up as well.....
yarp - certainly do - im in the uk and ive just ordered 5 of them from insight (they are one of our suppliers here at my workplace - i got 5x 32gb versions for 120 quid each)
I spoke to them first thing this morning and they were waiting for the price drop which came at 1pm today - then he phoned me - stock says that they had about 500 or so. goodluck.
My mate just bagged on about 10 minutes ago, so they still have them....

I ordered 3 from erwincomp, with google checkout, no prob so far, but card has not been debited.

Evo View 4G for $319

So this site lists the View for $399, but when you hit Buy Now, the price comes up as $299 plus $20 for shipping (credit to SlickDeals for the tip).
I just paid $255 for a WiFi Flyer. I have no desire to activate this thing on Sprint, so essentially, this would serve as a WiFi Flyer, too. However, it's black (which I like better than the silver), and it's got double the memory. It looks like the View gets hardly any support from devs, though. Is it worth the extra $65 bucks to pick this up?
Mainly, will the leaked Honeycomb updates work on the View?
EDIT: Down to $275 plus shipping now. I couldn't resist.

So you bought the View from Reagan for $275 - I am very curious to see a) if you get it and b) if it is sealed brand new
Yeah, I am, too. One guy said he picked 2 up directly and they were as described and able to be activated on Sprint.
I'm really hoping that the official Honeycomb update comes out soon. If it doesn't, I'll probably resell the View. Not sure I want a tablet without support from the community behind it.

Having had a few HC 3.2 tablets - Acer, Archos - I prefer the speed and stability of HTC's Gingerbread with Sense. If HTC does bring out HC for Flyer/View - all well and good, but not a big deal to me - I love the Flyer the way it is.

Well, really, the reason I want support is because I'd like to see ICS on it at some point.
Plus, the expanded pen capabilities of Honeycomb seem sweet, since that is one of the primary features of this particular tablet.

Went ahead and purchased one from this site since the flyers are literally unavailable locally. Purchased monday and paid for 2 day ups. Just got it 5 minutes ago BNIB. Was sketchy on ordering but since paypal was used I wasn't worried about getting my money back. The site and price (as long it lasts) is legit.

Sweet. Good to know. That's what a couple of other reports have said, too, so I don't really expect to find any issues when I get mine. It was delivered today, so now all that remains is for me to get back into town and open it up.
LOL ouch on the unsupported side of things. Let's just say im waiting since something is dropping really soon that would make a gingerbread kernel a waste of my time. I may compile one but it will be more practice than anything else.

Sounds like you know something I don't. If this thing gets Honeycomb, then I'm definitely keeping it. I can deal with a rooted system on a stock ROM, but I didn't really want to be stuck with Gingerbread for the life of the thing.
In my defense, I didn't see your ROM until after I found this deal. I'll probably try your ROM out, and if you develop something for HC, I'll definitely try that out, too.
199.99 new line activation thru a third party sprint store. Sprint data is good where I'm at and like u said double the memory. All together pen+tab =270.00= me geekin out til my girl leaves me LOL. 20.00/mo for 1gig data...not the best but certainly the lowest option out on the market as far I've seen. I have only used 62 kb and sure its gonna stay there for a while. Plenty of WiFi.

To be honest, I'm not sure. The price did drop a couple of months ago to $299, and they sold like crazy. I'm not sure what HTC's plans are with it, but I've heard that BB stores may show 1 in stock, but that may be the floor model. I don't know if HTC really knows what to do with it, but there has been Honeycomb leaks and such, so time will tell if they officially release HC for this device.
The plot thickens.....I called 3 Best Buy stores and got 23 different answers. Yes I'm being sarcastic. One store though said "it's discontinued because of poor sales". I called Corporate and they said it has been pulled for the "sale" tomorrow. Whatever that means.

I'm not surprised, they don't know. There were poor sales because the price was over $500 for it, so since other tabs were around $299, that's a no brainer. I'm not sure what they mean by pulled for the sale either...? I would think that if they had stock, the thing would sell great, but who knows? It sounds like Best Buy doesn't know either.

Jury is out on that, there's been 3 leaks, so there's something going on there...
I was worried that the $299 price drop was an indication that BB and HTC were clearing stock as they discontinued the device. Looks like this may be the case, and the new price was too good to be true. The fact that HTC's 10.1" tablet is also waaay overpriced suggests that the price drop wasn't an acknowledgment that HTC's pricing structure is unrealistic. And all this leads me to believe that HTC will probably end up having to exit the tablet market altogether. Oh, well, there's always ASUS and Samsung.

The following Forbes article speculates that Black Friday will being tablet market dominance by Apple, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble, spelling "doomsday" for all other tablet manufacturers.
http://www.forbes.com/sites/terokuittinen/2011/11/22/black-friday-tablet-doomsday-for-many-phone-vendors/
Maybe a bit extreme, although I see the point that Amazon is going to shake up the tablet landscape in the coming months. I expect at least Samsung to hang tough for some time. And HTC seems to be still in the fight, at least for the short term, with a 10.1" quad core tablet in the works:
http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-19736_7-57326923-251/quad-core-htc-quattro-tablet-details-leaked/
The Quattro may help explain the demise of the Flyer. Even though its not the same 7" form factor (which I really like), it would seem unwise for HTC to keep 3 tablets in the lineup, if none are selling too well. And with the Flyer already 6 months old, its not surprising to see it drop from the lineup.
I'm not buying the Forbes article's take on tablets as a whole, but I suspect it's on target as far as HTC goes. HTC made a mistake in pricing the Flyer at $500. It was also a mistake not to have a 10" tablet to market at the sane time. Had HTC priced the Flyer at $400 and had a 10" tablet out at $500 they might have had a shot.
But I do think that the Forbes article's post-mortem on Samsung is way premature. The Nook Tablet and the Fire are going to shake up the market this Christmas, but consumers are not going to settle for tablets with such limited functionality that are tied so closely to one vendor's ecosystem.
I bought all of the HTC Flyers. That's why there's none left..Muhaahahahahaaa
I was in Best Buy yesterday and asked about the flyer and was told that it is being cleared out because a new HTC was being released next month, but I really do not believe that, as for the Flyer I know of a place that has over 786 of them to sell, it is a good place to buy from ,I have purchased from them many times because they are here in my town and I can go to their outlet, http://www.techforless.com/cgi-bin/tech4less/HTCFLYERP512
The term open box means that they open up the boxes and check out the contents to make sure they are in good shape and working order, that way they can sell it at a reduced price. Plus you can get a extended warranty from them also, believe me they have great stuff and well worth the price which is much better than Best Buy.

I just don't understand if they're supposedly clearing them out, why would they raise the cost of the Scribe pen back to $79.99?
Well I think its a safe bet that HTC is not manufacturing any more Flyers. The only question is how much stock is still floating around

Ok but why the update on 11/14? To support the existing Flyers I suppose?
Yeah, support.
It's cheaper to do a production run of a million or 2 than to start and stop assembly lines. So HTC probably produced all they wanted in May - June and are just selling what remains. That's typical.
My Best Buy still has a display model set up. Maybe they finally have the HC update done so they pulled remaining stock, and are repacking them with HC ROMs so no one gets one without it? I know it is probably a long shot but you never know.

If it isn't oem, I would say don't use it. Batteries made by third parties are usually crap. Just putting that out there
Yeah cheap batteries can explode, leak then explode, overheat then explode, or leak then overheat then explode.
(Ok not literally)
Some 3rd party batteries might be better quality than others, but your safest bet is OEM.
(I heard the Mugen batteries are pretty good, but I haven't used any of them.)
I've used Seidio in other phones and they have been great. Unfortunately they don't have a Rezound battery. Heard good things about Mugen as well.
Just talk nice to a Verizon customer service person and get them to send you one for free or for cheap. If they won't, kindly ask for their supervisor. If you're polite they'll usually do something to help you out.

If you're polite, they usually won't help you out. Usually if you b*tch at them, they give you what you want

It's people like you make me hate when I have to work phones in a help desk position.
I'm not in sales anymore (was in high school), but I'm in an IT position at a company now and only have to deal with internal customers (who still *****, just less so usually).
Everytime I've had to call a CS line (or use chat or w/e) I'm polite / professional, and usually get what I want. I've warrantied several components to my computer that were out of warranty (by a few months) this way.
There's a difference between the CS Rep actually wanting to help you out (if you're nice to them), and just wanting to get you off the phone (if you're being an ass).

I'm usually nice but verizon is such a pos company and their business practices are so crappy and they rip my family off every month when the bill comes so they don't deserve my respect

dude, you are such an angry POS, that I would kick your ass if you were my kid.
No one forced you or your family on verizon. If they cause you this much frustration, then find a carrier that makes you happy...

Dude chill. Also, I'm in a 2 year contract, so I can't
Battery might work, that doesn't mean the BACK does.
Remember, the antenna for the Rezound is in the back of the phone. At least one manufacturer (Hyperion) sells an extended battery and back, and the back is completely worthless. The phone essentially eats up all those extra mAmps just trying to CONNECT. Fortunately, I also have the OEM 2750 mAmp battery from VZW and original extended back, and that fits the 3500 mAmp from Hyperion.
I can't vouch for this particular vendor's phone back, but keep it in mind.

3500mAh they for sure are not...
But, for this price, what can one expect anyway...

Its unbranded "Made in China", its cheap doesnt mean its bad. They already sold like 200 of them , wondering if any xda memebers bought it. They give 1 month warrenty too.
I bought similar for my s4 and while they weren't as good as stock they were probably 80% of stock and I used them many times over the course of 14 months without issue. Probably will buy these for my g3

Impossible specs. Rather low-price. I would say they surely won't be amazing.

Complete no-brainer then. Buy. Test. Great? Keep! Worthless? Return!
Let us know how they are
A guy on G+ G3 community got one and said the phone shut down after taking vidoes or something. Personally after speding 600 on a phone I would only buy LG brand batteries if I was to buy another one. I just read another story on a S4 that caught on fire. It had a cheap ebay after market battery.

Aftermarket batteries is one thing I would stay far away from unless they are a legitimate company with a reputation.\
Like you said, why spend $600 on a phone and cheap out on battery? Obviously, if people are buying a 2nd battery, they want it as a backup and be able to provide that extra charge. Not catch on fire or die on you.

1 month warranty is not enough. 1 month will not show anything. It can happen at 1month and 1 day. You're out of warranty. Now what?
You get what you paid.
I will wait till Tradeon on amazon have their on stock. They have pretty good review on other phone battery.
